Fear Of Clowns
There is an actual psychological diagnosis for it. Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns is a real phobia
for both children and adults alike. The phobia could be explained by what Sigmund Freud explained
in a 1919 publication "The Uncanny" In this work Sigmund Freud explains that we can be
frightened by something that is familiar and yet unfamiliar at the same time. For children, most can
recognize the clown as a real person but cannot recognize the exaggerate make up and clothing as
being real this confusion leads to fear. For adults, the fear of clowns can be a result of a childhood
trauma by a bad experience or with exposure to clowns in movies or television. The traditional white
face clown has also been used by Hollywood and television in horror movies to depict people whose
actions are unpredictable and scary. The recent remake of Stephen Kings IT rekindles fears of
clowns as being deranged. The misuse of the clown's face turning the features into a misshapen
creepy mask also contributes to the fear of clowns. The serial killer John Wayne Gacy worked as a
party clown. This summer, pranksters and sick people have adopted the clown character to attack
and menace people in different parts of the world to gain infamy on social media, further degrading
the reputation of the clowning profession. These creepy characters do not represent the true nature
of clowns and the art of clowning. A real clown's mission is to bring joy and laughter into the

Pennywise The Clown Character Analysis
"It" in its origins, is Stephen King's 1100 page literary masterpiece that has bred Coulrophobia
within many who dared to sojourn through the novel. Nevertheless, it was the novel's subject in
focus, Pennywise the Clown, embodied in full flesh by Tim Curry that amassed a sadistic following
and obsession with the arrival of the 1990 TV miniseries on ABC. Curry's portrayal of the dancing
clown quickly became a hallmark image for the horror canon, if not the face of horror movies
altogether. Flash forward 27 years later, the fear of clowns has burgeoned into a commonplace
phobia and horror trope. With all this to say, no clown has terrorized us in our nightmares quite like
Curry's Pennywise. Well, that was the case until Bill Skarsgård came along with a darker rendition
of the fiendish entity in Andrés Muschietti remake of "It."
With Muschietti's "IT." audience's worst fears are unleashed, manifested on the silver screen, then
fully realized by a clown who dwells within the sewer system of a small town in Derry, Maine,
where kids have disappeared at alarming rates. With all this to say, it is up to seven children known
as The Losers Club, to figure out the town's curse while confronting their own fears, home life,
bullies and the evil force that feeds on fear by taking the shape of a clown known as Pennywise, the
dancing clown. Nonetheless, the reboot of "IT," receives King's stamp of approval – a tall task
considering King has notoriously decried almost every adaptation of

Clowns Myths
Clowns and dolls are always part of a child's childhood. Whether it is a little girl´s doll that she
always walks around with, or a clown at a birthday party. As people get older they tend to get more
afraid because of fake movies. Dolls are feared for the same reason but then people come to their
senses and realize they aren´t real. People also think all clowns are nice, but that is just a myth.
There was once a clown named Bubbles. Bubbles isn´t normal clown who helps looks scary and is
really nice. Bubbles looks like the nicest clown you could ever meet. Bubbles was once invited to a
birthday party since he loved children very much he was so excited. When he got there it ended up
being for a bunch of snotty teenagers. The teenagers abused Bubbles and made him look very scary.
The special thing about Bubbles is that he had magical powers that all the little kids loved. After this
incident, he hated little kids and used his powers the wrong way. There was once a doll named Judy.
She was a beautiful doll with long blonde hair and a pretty dress. Judy used to belong to a little girl
named Lucy. Lucy threw Judy out because her brother cut the doll's face up. Bubbles found Judy 7

Not because of the candy or the costumes, but because of the children. Bubbles would make himself
and Judy look very friendly, so the kids aren´t afraid of them. Bubbles would show the kids a magic
trick by turning Judy into a real girl. The kids would love it and they would follow Bubbles
wherever he would go. Every time Bubbles would tell them he had lots of candy in his house and he
would take them there and torture them. He would do all the terrible stuff the teenagers did to him to
the children, but he would do it 10 times worse on the little children. Judy would seven slice up their
faces like Lucy´s brother did to

A Short Story : A Story?
"No! You don't understand." Evan shook his head and tightened his fist. Unacceptable, absolutely
unacceptable. His patience waned. Like standing barefoot in low tide, he could feel the sand being
sucked between his toes, only it was every ounce of self–control he possessed.
"Sir, this is the clown costume you asked for." A petite girl with honey hair and catlike eyes stared at
him, foot tapping.
"This is not the costume I wanted." His words were clipped.
"Sir," she pointed to the wall. "You said number one–sixty nine."
Evan looked up at the wall and, sure enough that's what he'd ordered. But it wasn't what he wanted.
He scowled and walked off, hands tucked into his pockets. He already owned 'number one–sixty
nine' he needed another. A different one. He pulled up a list of costume stores on his phone and
headed out the door.

Raven loved science. Most days. To be true, almost always. But this new assignment: 'Imprinting or

"Are you sure you don't want to play?"
Raven looked up and forced herself to meet her father's eyes before returning them to her notebook.
"Okay, but golf can be fun. Really." He stood there, a smile on his lips, one hand on his hip and with
the other he lounged on a golf club. A nine iron, if she guessed correctly and the white glove he
wore completed the picture.
She ground her teeth together, slammed her homework on the bench and stood. "No, dad. You know

Analysis Of ' The Joker From Batman '
"Why so serious, let's put a smile on that face" it sounds pretty serious now that I am quoting the
Joker from Batman. It surprises me how the Joker is a fictional character but now people have made
this character come to life through their actions. I was only twelve when I had first realized that I
had a mild form of coulrophobia whereas, I felt very uneasy when clowns tried to entertain such as
making balloon animals, spraying water on kids, or playing pranks. "No, I don't want to go the
haunted house" it's the 21st century and here I was arguing with my older sister that I did not want
to be part of a horrifying night, just to pay people to scare us. It just seems weird to me but it was a
tradition that every Halloween against my will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don't quite know why this type of fear exists in me but it's always been there, interfering with my
day to day activities. My alarm goes off, I reach over the side table and fumble to switch it off; my
phone falls to the ground and a trail of sunlight shines through my bedroom making it harder for me
to cover my eyes. As tempted as I am to fall back to sleep I force myself out of bed, struggling to
take the bedsheets off me. I clumsily make my way toward the bathroom and shut the door behind
me; I bring myself to the sink to splash cold water on my face, as I struggle to open my eyes I see a
scary image reflect on the left side of my mirror. I let out a frightened scream and blink a few times
uncertain of what I just encountered in the mirror. A red face with a wicked smile, and that stupid
red nose. I head back to my room panting just trying to contemplate of what I actually saw and what
I had just imagined. It had taken me forever to get out of bed but it had only taken five seconds to
scare me awake. I couldn't stop thinking of that morning I remember having breakfast and those
vivid images kept flashing back and replaying in my mind.
"What's wrong", my confounding mother broke me away from my mortifying trance. "Uh good
morning to you too," I answered back profoundly. I grabbed my waffle and walked out the front
door before my mother started her concerned questionnaires because

Clown Torture By Bruce Nauman
A Critical Analysis of "Clown Torture" In the field of video art, there are many well–known works
that the people have come to love. But one piece that strays away from the norm is "Clown Torture"
by Bruce Nauman. In this abrasive and disturbing yet confusing allegory, Nauman announces the
viewer to something that contradicts the routine of a viewer, to experience art as something beautiful
and sane. Introduced in an encased, obscured space, Clown Torture comprises of two rectangular
platforms, each supporting two sets of stacked color monitors (one upside–down, one turned on its
side); two large, colored–video projections on facing walls; and sound from every one of the six
displays. Performed by Walter Stevens, each of the five screens ... Show more content on

The make–up as well as the attire of the clown, reminds the viewer of an after–show artist, washed
out and powerless. The viewer fails to find anything funny in each of the 5 videos shown to them,
this breaks the viewer's belief, of connecting clowns to fun and amusement. The dramatic contrast
the viewer experiences leads them to unpleasant shock and surprise. So, the "torture" in the title
actually refers to the viewer itself being tortured by various abominations. As stated by Nauman,
"From the beginning I was trying to see if I could make art that . . . was just there all at once. Like
getting hit in the face with a baseball bat. Or better, like getting hit in the back of the head. You
never see it coming; it just knocks you down. . . . The kind of intensity that doesn't give you any
trace of whether you're going to like it or not." The use of a clown–parody in suggests Nauman's
insecurities as an artist, viewed by the community. Suggesting that the immense criticism garnered
by him, as an artist, has reduced to him to the role of "a jester, a fool or a clown", sometimes
working at the whim of the society, repeating itself and the cracking when the stress is unbearable.
Even during his most private moments, personal life, the eye of the crowd continues to see him,
observing him, waiting for him to

Should Clowns Be Allowed To Wear On Halloween
Clowns costumes shouldn't be allowed to wear on Halloween, especially with all the rumors and
scare tactics that are going on today about them. Clowns are supposed to be someone who
participates in the circus and wears funny makeup and try to make people laugh. The more you look
at their creepy grinning faces, the more it twists into something more evil. "In recent years, films
such as Stephen King's It have highlighted those fears, and the "killer clown" craze currently
sweeping the UK hasn't helped." (Goldhill, 1) Before the movie It came out people weren't as
spooked out about clowns as they are now. Clowns can come off as happy as they want, yet
regardless it attempts to hide their true feelings.
Kids are scared of clowns because they are creepy, and portray a confusing image. On Halloween a
lot of kids will be out trying to have fun and collect candy, if clown are out there scaring kids and
setting a bad image that will most likely run the kids off. You have to worry about their parents
getting involved to make sure they're kids are not in danger. Clowns can display being nice and can

Fear Of Clowns In Pop Culture
Riding a fear of clowns through clowning
Clowns have been present in almost every culture for over X years; often being used to say what is
needed to be said or to tear down misunderstood ideas. The nature of clown is to act as a social
commentary while still remaining grounded in what makes humans human. It is because of their
nature in connecting to their emotions and saying what is socially unacceptable that coulrophobia or
the fear of clowns has become a growing and relatively new problem. Mostly mediated by the
portrayal of clowns in pop culture, this phobia ranges from young children to fully grown adults. For
some people, the image of a clown or even just the red nose of a clown is enough to bring them to
tears while for others clowns are merely uncomfortable to be around. Generally, clowns are easy to
avoid on a daily basis but for those who are genuinely want to ... Show more content on

Clowns are known to play the fool but they also serve to project society's illusions, repressed
longings, or the socially unacceptable side of humanity. Without the clown to project these socially
unacceptable values addressing them would be uncomfortable. The mask of the clown does little to
make a person with coulrophobia feel comfortable and as a result, they are even further perturbed by
the content being addressed. It is possible that there is an underlying portion to the fear of clowns
where the two parts, clown, and content, are part of each other and cannot be separated. This may
have further implications through the current media portrayal of clowns. Since clowns are seen as
being creepy, dishonest, and killers in the media they create a forced commentary on death and
murder without making the content feel safe. This lack of safety moves to further perpetrate the
removal of innocence from a clown and promoting the bastardized killer clown

day they ran home and very excitedly began to tell their parents all about the circus poster they had

coming to town and they are bringing some awesome animals", yelled Dan. Kit quickly chimed in
"they are gonna have tigers, lions, leopards, and elephants." Mom and dad just stared at each other.

Fear Of Clowns Research
I have a major fear of clowns. It started with a terrible occurrence in my youth. Everytime I see one
I have this horrible feeling that makes me sick. Of my experiences, I had one encounter that made
my fear somewhat decrease. Most of my fear from them is what I didn't know or see. But I'm still
not afraid of the circus. Clowns always frightened me as a child, but one Halloween made it even
worse. I was on a haunted house tour with my family when I accidentally was diverted. Not
knowing I was alone for a while I wandered into a room full of killer–looking clowns and they all
swarmed me at once. The quick outburst of them from every direction was so terrifying that I passed
out right where I was standing and awoke in the hospital. I looked over to my mom and she said
"They have something to say." I looked to my right side and I saw the clowns once again this time
they looked even more evil. Once again I passed out. The next time I woke up I checked to make
sure there wasn't any clowns and then checked again to be safe. Lucky for me there were none to be
seen and I was relieved but still on edge from the whole encounter. My mom entered the room soon
after I gathered all my nerves. She said that she thought that me seeing them and ... Show more

Hollywood Illusions In The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West, illusion verse reality is one of the
main themes of the novel. Hollywood is known for it's acting, but the town and everyone that inhibit
it seem to get carried away with trying to be something they aren't. Nothing is really indigenous in
Hollywood and everything is borrowed from another place. The houses have been designed to look
like Irish cottages, Spanish villas, or Southern plantations while the characters often imagine
themselves as someone other than who they really are. Tod states, "The fat lady in the yachting cap

West's theme of illusion verse reality is shown with Faye always bouncing free to continue in her
fantasies, or Harry not knowing what he feels because clownishly playing his disguised self, the
Greeners show that for compulsive masqueraders little authentic life is possible. Faye and Harry
make the audience sympathetic for them. They just seem so pathetic at times that it's hard to not feel
bad for them. Tod, Homer and many of Faye's other suitors, went along with her poor acting because
she was beautiful yet pathetic. West says, "Raging at him, she was still beautiful. That was because
her beauty was structural like a tree's, not a quality of her mind or heart" (126). They all loved her
for what they saw on the outside, not her stuck up ways and wild stories. For all of the characters in
West's novel, they are acting on an every day basis without even realizing it. Harry acts in pain to
get attention. He pretends to need help from sympathetic people and then he tells them the crazy
stories of when he was "famous." His illusions are then backed up by his strong beliefs that he really
was a good actor. If we look at Faye we see how she also has a very strong and misconstrued idea of
reality. She believes she will one day be famous and in her everyday life, she acts like she already is.
She bosses the men around, has to be the center of attention, and uses people to pay for her and get
her ahead. Her daily acting and stage acting has become almost the same, as she makes

Individuals, who might experience uneasiness, anxiety, and dizziness when standing near a person
wearing a full face of paint, a colorful outfit and wig, and large shoes, may have a fear known as
coulrophobia. Nearing the end of the year of 2016, this fear became prominent as people all over
America began to see clowns hiding in forests. Anyone can see how these "creepy clowns" swept
hysteria across all of America by looking more in depth at the history of clowns, feeling remorse for
the good clowns, and by understanding why these clowns are creepy. Clowns have always been
thought to bring joy and laughter to children and adults all over the world; however, this has since

children into having nightmares. No one can be sure of why these jokesters thought it was an
acceptable idea; however, there had been a couple theories. One of the most common was for the
social media being that they could have a chance of someone videotaping and posting on various
applications with the hash tag #IfISeeAClown. Another speculation was about how the situation was
an expression of human anxiety. A report about the clowns laid extra information down saying,
"'these sorts of panics tend to surface when there's underlying social anxiety'" (Willingham). Many

Clowns Coulrophobia
Coulrophobia. That is the word for an excessive fear of clowns. While I don't think there are a lot of
people who suffer from clown phobia, there are many people who just don't like them. Clowns have
been around for ages and appear in most cultures in varying forms. From court jesters and mimes to
rodeo and circus clowns their primary purpose was to make people laugh. To provide comic relief.
Somewhere along the line clowns became dark. Facebook even has an "I Hate Clowns" page with
some 400,000 followers! Is it because clowns always possessed a certain sadness. Were they always
just mirroring humanity with all our imperfections or was it something else? I'm not sure, but clown
phobia did not seem so prevalent prior to the IT movie in 1990. IT was based on Stephen King's
1986 novel of the same title and both the book and movie instilled a fear into what seems like an
entire generation of kids. In the novel, Stephen King's IT was about a demon who feeds on fear. IT
was banished to earth and wakes every 27 to 30 years to terrorize kids and feast upon their flesh,
which tastes better to him when they are afraid. He can take any form but uses the clown because
children are more easily frightened than adults. In the novel the clown is evil, alien, and other
worldly. Something timeless and ageless, something eternal that can be stopped for a while but not
destroyed. The portrayal of Pennywise in the original movie did not follow the book as well as the

Pennywise The Clown Quotes
Pennywise The Clown As a child, I vividly remembering watching the movie, "It". I remember this
insignificant event clearly for one reason. It kept me up for days because I was so terrified by the
film. "It" was originally a horror novel written by Steven King but was also released into a movie.
Every great horror movie has a villain or monster and the monster in "It" goes by the name
pennywise the clown. Pennywise the Clown induces fear in me and millions of others because his
traits closely resemble those of Cohen's seven thesis which define what make a monster. In the
opening scene of the movie, a little boy is shown playing in the rain. The boy's name is Georgie and
he is doing what kids have done in the rain for years, which is playing with a toy boat in the gutter.
The camera then shows Georgie's paper boat unfortunately flow into a gutter in the sidewalk.
Georgie starts yelling "NOOO" at the loss of his boat and scarmbles up to the gutter. At first the
gutter appears empty, until the audience hears a terrifying voice say "Hi Georgie!" and the terrifying
clown head shown in my image appears inside the gutter. The clown we know as penywise.
Pennywise asks if Georgie wants his boat back and Georgie says yes. Pennywise then asks Georgie
if he wants a balloon and cotton candy. Georgie eagerly reaches inside and the demonic clown pulls
him in and murders the boy. The appearance of pennywise the clown would induce nightmares in
most children. He has pale white skin, a red nose and a receding hairline with the rest of his head
covered in curly red clown hair. As for his clothes, Pennywise wears classic circus clown clothes. A
one piece that is brightly colored with blue sleeves and a yellow body. The purpose of Pennywise
the Clowns actions and appearance are meant to do one thing. To scare children. When pennywise
the clown is first seen talking to Georgie, although he is extremely creepy being in a gutter, a place
no one would ever want to see a clown he seems friendly in his demeanor. However, when he pulls
Georgie into the gutter his face becomes even more demonic and he gives a chilling smile and laugh
with fanglike, yellow stained teeth. If Pennywise the clown doesn't seem terrifying yet, he

Personal Narrative On Fire
The mass of clownified humanity that we gazed upon was horrifically impressive. They were
swarming upon the facility like a malicious rainbow sea. The facility was located in a secluded
wilderness area and it had one road leading up to it. This road was stuffed with clown cars. Judging
by how many of the vehicles were simply cars hastily and gaudily painted with spray paint, I
deduced that much of this army was recently infected clowns. It turns out they had rapidly, within a
day, recruited the next city over in preparation for this siege. Our wonderment was interrupted by
the ricochet of bullets as the gun toting clowns fired upon us. It would take a lot more than that to
kill this bird though. "Fire when ready," the pilot announced; the Ride of the Valkyries played over
the intercom. My turn to gun came first and it was absolutely thrilling. I pulled on the triggers and
the minigun made the most beautiful thrumming noise as thousands of bullets spewed from it and
sliced apart and penetrated the hoard below. I was abjectly excited, because I knew the people I was
killing were all curable, but curing them in such numbers seemed an impossible task. Fire applied to
their noses was the only known cure. What could we do? Light them all on ... Show more content on

and arms as scarves, that sort of thing. After a few minutes of clown genocide my gun beeped to let

thousand to go. I sighed because once again I felt helpless; even using a military attack chopper

indubitably have been killed in no time. There being nobody by, however, but a pauper old witch,
who was rendered rather misty by an unwonted allowance of little children; and a killer clown who
did such matter of collecting children and eating them; Nelson and Nature fought out the point
between them. The result was, that, after a few struggles, Nelson breathed, sneezed, and proceeded
to advertise to the inmates of the workhouse the fact of a new burden having been imposed upon the
parish, by setting up as loud a cry as could reasonably have been expected from a male infant who
had not been possessed of that very useful appendage, a voice, for a much longer space of time than
three minutes and a quarter. As Nelson gave this first proof of the free and proper action of his
lungs, the patchwork coverlet which was carelessly flung over the iron bedstead, rustled; the pale
face of a young woman was raised feebly from the pillow; and a faint voice imperfectly articulated
the words, 'Let me see the child, and kiss him before I die.' Pennywise had been sitting with a scary

Essay On Bottom's 'Bottom'
The Good, the Bad, and the Drunk Revision
Whether it be in a play, a book, a story, a song, or even real life, the jester, or fool, is there as a form
of entertainment. He or she either purposefully or unintentionally leads others into laughter, thus
making these people want him or her to be around them. However, not every jester will have the
same humor nor perform similar actions as another. The jester could be a positive or even a negative
influence. He or she could either help and honor the protagonist, or anyone, or attempt to "steal the
crown" and even ruin the reputation of the protagonist. Bottom, the naive, "playful" fellow, and
Falstaff, the rude, stubborn man, are similar due to their roles as fools; however, their ways with
humor and actions towards others contrast majorly, which equally affect their placements of honor.
Bottom's appears as a naive and innocent jester, giving the play a light, airy tone. Bottom's humor is
more internal. His slurred and confusing speech causes him to be humorous. "You were best to call
them generally, man by man, according to the scrip"(1.2.266). Bottom tends to stumble over and
mix up his words, contradicting what he is saying. When he does this, people consider him
humorous because it is all on accident, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bottom's role as a jester is all through his innocent thought process and credulous actions. On the
contrary, Falstaff's role as a jester is all through his rude self–deprecating jokes and mindless
actions. In reference to honor, Bottom presents everyone with honor, as does everyone to him, which
he clearly deserves. However, Falstaff presents no one with honor, only sometimes to the prince, yet
people unrightfully bestow honor onto him. Nonetheless, the jester is always there for entertainment,
and even, sometimes, just someone for the audience to relate to, which some could say both Falstaff
and Bottom

`` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story "'Repent, Harlequin!' said the Ticktockman" to
better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the
Ticktockman are developed through Ellison's imagery of their physical forms and of their personas.
The dull setting of the short story is created through the author's imagery of machinery, particularly
clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison's use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this
story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to White, "the
disruptive and rebellious Harlequin is an anomaly: the only human being distinguishable from
machines" (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only individual within his
society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the
characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the
Harlequin. Aside from being a "personality," which in and of itself is outrageous to the System, the
Harlequin is also a "laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive" (953, 955). This imagery
of a jester or a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a nuisance to his society rather
than a dangerous rebellious force. When the Harlequin is flying the air–boat that he uses to drop
jelly beans on to the "metronomic" Timkin workers, he is not described as merely flying this boat
over the people

Persuasive Effect Of Advertising In Advertising
Advertisements play a highly important role in the United States' consumerist society, as Americans
are exposed to ads in nearly every form of media. Each of these ads target a different audience and
have varying levels of persuasive effect. Take for example an Audi commercial that was released in
2017, where clowns drove around recklessly and created a dangerous environment for other drivers.
In this commercial, different safety features of the Audi cars caused the vehicles to avoid crashes in
spite of the dangerous driving around them. The content of this advertisement helps to determine the
target audience: wealthy American drivers. The use of clowns within the commercial provided
evidence that the ad primarily targeted American consumers, as clowns were depicted as both a
symbol of humor and fear or danger. This media portrayal of clowns as a scary and dangerous
symbol, along with the common childhood fear of clowns, is mostly unique to American culture. As
a result, those from different countries or different cultural backgrounds would have less
understanding of this advertisement. The high price for purchasing a new Audi vehicle also gave
evidence that the advertisement was targeting wealthy consumers. The persuasive effect that the
advertisement has on this target audience is determined by a number of message strategies used
throughout the commercial. These strategies included fear appeal, appeals to positive emotion, and
storytelling, with each of these strategies

Jennings Brown Clowns
Staff writer, Jennings Brown, in his article, "We All Need to Calm Down about the Clowns" claims
that these clowns that are "terrorizing" or "injuring" other people are actually completely harmless.
He supports his claim by first stating that back in early August in the town of Greenville, South
Carolina, children claimed that there had been clowns try to lure them into the woods. These clowns
come every year a few months before Halloween, they are only here to give people a scare. It all
began in Greenville, SC at the Fleetwood Manor Apartments, on August 21 there we reports stating
that there was a clown with white face paint trying to lure children, who live in that complex, into

The About Insane Clown Posse
Since the early ninety's, a controversial Detroit rap group known as Insane Clown Posse have
boasted about torturous murder methods and brutal killings within their music. Within hours of the
release of their debut album The great malinko the Southern Baptist Convention criticized Disney
for signing the group after proclaiming ICP was the devil's music. Disney instantly dropped ICP
from the label and removed their album from stores. Soon after, homicide reports started to spread
with perpetrators proclaiming themselves as Juggalos (Insane Clown Posse fans). The FBI listed ICP
as a dangerous gang, and, in many states, the group's live shows were cancelled. Despite their music
being banned in several countries and media outlets, this group continues to release music. Once a
year the group and its fans come together for what's known as The Gathering of the Juggalos in
Thornville, Ohio. I thought to infiltrate the gathering to gain insight on this homicidal culture and
hopefully develop a better understanding of how this all came to be.
Initially, my ride to the great state of Ohio was a pleasant scenic drive. Weaving in and out through
the Pennsylvania Poconos mountains, a refreshingly pleased feeling came over me thinking about
the events to come. It wasn't until after Pittsburgh that I started to notice some of the vehicles beside

Rhetorical Analysis : The Audi Advertisement
Introduction When analysing all of the advertising around us, sometimes we don't look at what the
true message of a commercial really is. We live in a world that is controlled by mass media and
because of this advertisers are trying harder each year to outdo themselves and their competitors.
Rhetors use techniques in their advertisements such as fantasies or surrealism to catch the attention
of their audience. Companies like Audi pour millions of dollars into their marketing teams to make
sure their cars look the best and attract consumers. Commercials that are shown on television today
are great examples of rhetorical artifacts because of the many techniques being exercised by the

Four Social Psychological Principles Of Clown Sighting
In recent years, clown sightings have become quite common to see in news and social media. It is a
phenomenon in which a group of people dressing up as evil clowns in incongruous settings near
church, at parking lots and forests. While the majority of incidents are reported as pranks with no
evidence of criminal activity, some incidents led to arrest as they involved assaults to individuals,
threats to school and even robberies. This phenomenon of clown sightings is constantly occurring in
the world around me globally and could be explained by four social psychological principles: group,
deindividuation, groupthink and group polarization.
Before understanding the social psychological principles applied to clown sightings, we need to
know what group means as clown sightings usually happen in groups. A group is three or more
people who interact and are independent in the sense that their needs and goals cause them to
influence each other. In the clown sighting situation, people usually do it in a group with three or
more people and they interact with each other with a goal to dress up as clown either for fun to
prank people or actually doing act that is aggressive and threatening to others, like robbery, to
achieve their goal of getting other people's money for instance.
Deindividuation is the most important principles to explain clown sightings. Deindividuation means
people often abandon normal restraint when in groups. This is because in group they lose sense of

The Death Of The Homeless
Seven homeless lit a small bonfire and huddled around flames, which glowed yellow and gold. The
air was thick smelled of dead fish fed to their dogs. They're lighting a cigarette and playing the

dock and vomited all the content of his stomach into the water. Everyone jokes afterward that he

one homeless with butterfly tattoos on his arm. He recklessly grabbed the bottles and poured the
yellow drink right into his mouth. Only minutes later he spurted out his drink, "This ginger drink is

The Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night by William...
The Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
In English Literature, a fool is a person professionally counterfeits folly for the entertainment of
others. They are always regarded as comic figures, which provide mediation under tensional
circumstances. As Twelfth Night is an atypical romantic comedy, the jester is not the only fool who
is subject to foolery, many other characters are subject to foolery by their silly acts as well. There
are two types of fool in the play, namely Feste the professional jester who is in fact quite intelligent,
and the non–jester fools, who are not fools but act like fools. Since Feste is the only designed fool in

Although Feste does not make any profound remarks, he seems to be the wisest person among all
the characters in the comedy. Viola remarks this by saying "This fellow's wise enough to play the
fool".
Feste contributes to the comedy in the play. Despite the humour of the comedy, Feste dresses up as
Sir Topaz, the preist and visits the imprisoned Malvolio with Maria and Sir Toby. Sir Topaz uses his
humour to abuse Malvolio, who is still unaware that he is actually talking to the Feste than to the
real Sir Topas. Feste calls Malvolio a "lunatic", "satan" and confuses him by wittingly making him a
fool, "Then you are mad indeed, if you be no better in your wits than a fool" Feste plays on
Malvolio's words and triumphs over him by twisting his words to make him look foolish. Enraged
by his poor treatment he says he will revenge on the all, "I'll be revenged on the whole pack of you"
which is again amusing as the audience would know that Malvolio is even more egotistical since
then.
Feste is not only a jester, but also a corrupter of language. As Viola says, "this fellow is more than
just a clown", "he must know the humour of whom he jests", Feste knows how to make fun of

The Effects Of Transportation In The Rocky Horror Picture...
Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the characters? Star
Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing
costumes. Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the
movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they
would interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes
one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article,
Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, "Transportation has three main
components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self–report
transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the
scale suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green & Brock,
2000)." (Media Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into
another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow
sends our minds to another world for a short time. It helps us temporarily forget our daily stressors.
"Need for cognition is the tendency to enjoy and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo &
Petty, 1982)." (Media Psychology, 2008) The effect of transportation is apparent in watching

My Fear Of Clowns
Since I was little, I would be terrified of clowns. I would avoid them at all cost from pretending to
be sick to misbehaving and getting grounded just so I will have an excuse as to why I did not attend
birthday parties or any event that I presumed would involve the attendance of a clown. I never told
anyone of said fear for the reason that I would be treated differently and looked upon as weak. I
always kept it to myself hoping that one day it would magically disappear but it never did. As the
years passed, my phobia of clowns prodigiously increased to the point I would have panic attacks
from merely the thought of myself being in the presence of one. My compulsion of continuous
denial came to an end when my phobia of clowns was clearly evident. Autumn had just commenced
so the leaves began to change from stunning lime green to a beautiful golden yellow. The wind
furiously blew everything in its course without remorse. Although windy, the weather was
unexpectedly warm. The sun's rays were almost blinding in the cloudless pellucid blue sky. Yet,
despite this delightful weather I could not help but feel uneased. My pulse rapidly intensified with
each passing second as the distance between the circus and myself diminished. I was seven at the
time, about to confront my biggest fear. My brother did not share the same angst as I felt towards

Pennywise: The Dancing Clowns
Long, long ago there was this clown called Pennywise(the Dancing Clown), That lived in south
carolina. Clowns need help or need money to eat or have a place to stay. Sometimes doing
something is not always wrong. Pennywise thought of wearing mask during the shows they were
doing at a tent they called the circuit.
First of all, Long, long ago there was a clown who's name was called Pennywise back then some
clowns did not have any money including Pennywise. So they thought of a good idea of making
money but it was where you could not get caught by the police. So one day they made posters for
people to see and that way people can come and see the show of the clowns which was called the
circuit.
Then, the people went to the circuit to see what

Fear Of Clowns

  • 1. Fear Of Clowns There is an actual psychological diagnosis for it. Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns is a real phobia for both children and adults alike. The phobia could be explained by what Sigmund Freud explained in a 1919 publication "The Uncanny" In this work Sigmund Freud explains that we can be frightened by something that is familiar and yet unfamiliar at the same time. For children, most can recognize the clown as a real person but cannot recognize the exaggerate make up and clothing as being real this confusion leads to fear. For adults, the fear of clowns can be a result of a childhood trauma by a bad experience or with exposure to clowns in movies or television. The traditional white face clown has also been used by Hollywood and television in horror movies to depict people whose actions are unpredictable and scary. The recent remake of Stephen Kings IT rekindles fears of clowns as being deranged. The misuse of the clown's face turning the features into a misshapen creepy mask also contributes to the fear of clowns. The serial killer John Wayne Gacy worked as a party clown. This summer, pranksters and sick people have adopted the clown character to attack and menace people in different parts of the world to gain infamy on social media, further degrading the reputation of the clowning profession. These creepy characters do not represent the true nature of clowns and the art of clowning. A real clown's mission is to bring joy and laughter into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Pennywise The Clown Character Analysis "It" in its origins, is Stephen King's 1100 page literary masterpiece that has bred Coulrophobia within many who dared to sojourn through the novel. Nevertheless, it was the novel's subject in focus, Pennywise the Clown, embodied in full flesh by Tim Curry that amassed a sadistic following and obsession with the arrival of the 1990 TV miniseries on ABC. Curry's portrayal of the dancing clown quickly became a hallmark image for the horror canon, if not the face of horror movies altogether. Flash forward 27 years later, the fear of clowns has burgeoned into a commonplace phobia and horror trope. With all this to say, no clown has terrorized us in our nightmares quite like Curry's Pennywise. Well, that was the case until Bill Skarsgård came along with a darker rendition of the fiendish entity in Andrés Muschietti remake of "It." With Muschietti's "IT." audience's worst fears are unleashed, manifested on the silver screen, then fully realized by a clown who dwells within the sewer system of a small town in Derry, Maine, where kids have disappeared at alarming rates. With all this to say, it is up to seven children known as The Losers Club, to figure out the town's curse while confronting their own fears, home life, bullies and the evil force that feeds on fear by taking the shape of a clown known as Pennywise, the dancing clown. Nonetheless, the reboot of "IT," receives King's stamp of approval – a tall task considering King has notoriously decried almost every adaptation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As people get older they tend to get more afraid because of fake movies. Dolls are feared for the same reason but then people come to their senses and realize they aren´t real. People also think all clowns are nice, but that is just a myth. There was once a clown named Bubbles. Bubbles isn´t normal clown who helps looks scary and is really nice. Bubbles looks like the nicest clown you could ever meet. Bubbles was once invited to a birthday party since he loved children very much he was so excited. When he got there it ended up being for a bunch of snotty teenagers. The teenagers abused Bubbles and made him look very scary. The special thing about Bubbles is that he had magical powers that all the little kids loved. After this incident, he hated little kids and used his powers the wrong way. • 7. A Short Story : A Story? "No! You don't understand." Evan shook his head and tightened his fist. Unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable. His patience waned. Like standing barefoot in low tide, he could feel the sand being sucked between his toes, only it was every ounce of self–control he possessed. "Sir, this is the clown costume you asked for." A petite girl with honey hair and catlike eyes stared at him, foot tapping. "This is not the costume I wanted." His words were clipped. "Sir," she pointed to the wall. "You said number one–sixty nine." Evan looked up at the wall and, sure enough that's what he'd ordered. But it wasn't what he wanted. He scowled and walked off, hands tucked into his pockets. He already owned 'number one–sixty nine' he needed another. A different one. He pulled up a list of costume stores on his phone and headed out the door. # Raven loved science. Most days. To be true, almost always. But this new assignment: 'Imprinting or DNA?' it tickled the base of her spine. It made her itch. She didn't want to do it. "Are you sure you don't want to play?" Raven looked up and forced herself to meet her father's eyes before returning them to her notebook. "Okay, but golf can be fun. Really." He stood there, a smile on his lips, one hand on his hip and with the other he lounged on a golf club. A nine iron, if she guessed correctly and the white glove he wore completed the picture. She ground her teeth together, slammed her homework on the bench and stood. "No, dad. You know what would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of ' The Joker From Batman ' "Why so serious, let's put a smile on that face" it sounds pretty serious now that I am quoting the Joker from Batman. It surprises me how the Joker is a fictional character but now people have made this character come to life through their actions. I was only twelve when I had first realized that I had a mild form of coulrophobia whereas, I felt very uneasy when clowns tried to entertain such as making balloon animals, spraying water on kids, or playing pranks. "No, I don't want to go the haunted house" it's the 21st century and here I was arguing with my older sister that I did not want to be part of a horrifying night, just to pay people to scare us. It just seems weird to me but it was a tradition that every Halloween against my will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don't quite know why this type of fear exists in me but it's always been there, interfering with my day to day activities. My alarm goes off, I reach over the side table and fumble to switch it off; my phone falls to the ground and a trail of sunlight shines through my bedroom making it harder for me to cover my eyes. As tempted as I am to fall back to sleep I force myself out of bed, struggling to take the bedsheets off me. I clumsily make my way toward the bathroom and shut the door behind me; I bring myself to the sink to splash cold water on my face, as I struggle to open my eyes I see a scary image reflect on the left side of my mirror. I let out a frightened scream and blink a few times uncertain of what I just encountered in the mirror. A red face with a wicked smile, and that stupid red nose. I head back to my room panting just trying to contemplate of what I actually saw and what I had just imagined. It had taken me forever to get out of bed but it had only taken five seconds to scare me awake. I couldn't stop thinking of that morning I remember having breakfast and those vivid images kept flashing back and replaying in my mind. • 11. Clown Torture By Bruce Nauman A Critical Analysis of "Clown Torture" In the field of video art, there are many well–known works that the people have come to love. But one piece that strays away from the norm is "Clown Torture" by Bruce Nauman. In this abrasive and disturbing yet confusing allegory, Nauman announces the viewer to something that contradicts the routine of a viewer, to experience art as something beautiful and sane. Introduced in an encased, obscured space, Clown Torture comprises of two rectangular platforms, each supporting two sets of stacked color monitors (one upside–down, one turned on its side); two large, colored–video projections on facing walls; and sound from every one of the six displays. Performed by Walter Stevens, each of the five screens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The make–up as well as the attire of the clown, reminds the viewer of an after–show artist, washed out and powerless. The viewer fails to find anything funny in each of the 5 videos shown to them, this breaks the viewer's belief, of connecting clowns to fun and amusement. The dramatic contrast the viewer experiences leads them to unpleasant shock and surprise. So, the "torture" in the title actually refers to the viewer itself being tortured by various abominations. As stated by Nauman, "From the beginning I was trying to see if I could make art that . . . was just there all at once. Like getting hit in the face with a baseball bat. Or better, like getting hit in the back of the head. You never see it coming; it just knocks you down. . . . The kind of intensity that doesn't give you any trace of whether you're going to like it or not." The use of a clown–parody in suggests Nauman's insecurities as an artist, viewed by the community. Suggesting that the immense criticism garnered by him, as an artist, has reduced to him to the role of "a jester, a fool or a clown", sometimes working at the whim of the society, repeating itself and the cracking when the stress is unbearable. Even during his most private moments, personal life, the eye of the crowd continues to see him, observing him, waiting for him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Should Clowns Be Allowed To Wear On Halloween Clowns costumes shouldn't be allowed to wear on Halloween, especially with all the rumors and scare tactics that are going on today about them. Clowns are supposed to be someone who participates in the circus and wears funny makeup and try to make people laugh. The more you look at their creepy grinning faces, the more it twists into something more evil. "In recent years, films such as Stephen King's It have highlighted those fears, and the "killer clown" craze currently sweeping the UK hasn't helped." (Goldhill, 1) Before the movie It came out people weren't as spooked out about clowns as they are now. Clowns can come off as happy as they want, yet regardless it attempts to hide their true feelings. Kids are scared of clowns because they are creepy, and portray a confusing image. On Halloween a lot of kids will be out trying to have fun and collect candy, if clown are out there scaring kids and setting a bad image that will most likely run the kids off. • 15. Fear Of Clowns In Pop Culture Riding a fear of clowns through clowning Clowns have been present in almost every culture for over X years; often being used to say what is needed to be said or to tear down misunderstood ideas. The nature of clown is to act as a social commentary while still remaining grounded in what makes humans human. It is because of their nature in connecting to their emotions and saying what is socially unacceptable that coulrophobia or the fear of clowns has become a growing and relatively new problem. Mostly mediated by the portrayal of clowns in pop culture, this phobia ranges from young children to fully grown adults. For some people, the image of a clown or even just the red nose of a clown is enough to bring them to tears while for others clowns are merely uncomfortable to be around. Generally, clowns are easy to avoid on a daily basis but for those who are genuinely want to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clowns are known to play the fool but they also serve to project society's illusions, repressed longings, or the socially unacceptable side of humanity. Without the clown to project these socially unacceptable values addressing them would be uncomfortable. The mask of the clown does little to make a person with coulrophobia feel comfortable and as a result, they are even further perturbed by the content being addressed. It is possible that there is an underlying portion to the fear of clowns where the two parts, clown, and content, are part of each other and cannot be separated. This may have further implications through the current media portrayal of clowns. Since clowns are seen as being creepy, dishonest, and killers in the media they create a forced commentary on death and murder without making the content feel safe. This lack of safety moves to further perpetrate the removal of innocence from a clown and promoting the bastardized killer clown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Fear Of Clowns Research I have a major fear of clowns. It started with a terrible occurrence in my youth. Everytime I see one I have this horrible feeling that makes me sick. Of my experiences, I had one encounter that made my fear somewhat decrease. Most of my fear from them is what I didn't know or see. But I'm still not afraid of the circus. Clowns always frightened me as a child, but one Halloween made it even worse. I was on a haunted house tour with my family when I accidentally was diverted. Not knowing I was alone for a while I wandered into a room full of killer–looking clowns and they all swarmed me at once. The quick outburst of them from every direction was so terrifying that I passed out right where I was standing and awoke in the hospital. I looked over to my mom and she said "They have something to say." I looked to my right side and I saw the clowns once again this time they looked even more evil. Once again I passed out. The next time I woke up I checked to make sure there wasn't any clowns and then checked again to be safe. Lucky for me there were none to be seen and I was relieved but still on edge from the whole encounter. My mom entered the room soon after I gathered all my nerves. Day of the Locust Chris Phillips Professor Kirkpatrick English 1C March 31, 2010 Hollywood Illusions In The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West, illusion verse reality is one of the main themes of the novel. Hollywood is known for it's acting, but the town and everyone that inhibit it seem to get carried away with trying to be something they aren't. Nothing is really indigenous in Hollywood and everything is borrowed from another place. The houses have been designed to look like Irish cottages, Spanish villas, or Southern plantations while the characters often imagine themselves as someone other than who they really are. West's theme of illusion verse reality is shown with Faye always bouncing free to continue in her fantasies, or Harry not knowing what he feels because clownishly playing his disguised self, the Greeners show that for compulsive masqueraders little authentic life is possible. Faye and Harry make the audience sympathetic for them. They just seem so pathetic at times that it's hard to not feel bad for them. Tod, Homer and many of Faye's other suitors, went along with her poor acting because she was beautiful yet pathetic. West says, "Raging at him, she was still beautiful. That was because her beauty was structural like a tree's, not a quality of her mind or heart" (126). They all loved her for what they saw on the outside, not her stuck up ways and wild stories. For all of the characters in West's novel, they are acting on an every day basis without even realizing it. Harry acts in pain to get attention. He pretends to need help from sympathetic people and then he tells them the crazy stories of when he was "famous." His illusions are then backed up by his strong beliefs that he really was a good actor. If we look at Faye we see how she also has a very strong and misconstrued idea of reality. She believes she will one day be famous and in her everyday life, she acts like she already is. She bosses the men around, has to be the center of attention, and uses people to pay for her and get her ahead. Her daily acting and stage acting has become almost the same, as she makes ... Professional Clowns Research Paper Individuals, who might experience uneasiness, anxiety, and dizziness when standing near a person wearing a full face of paint, a colorful outfit and wig, and large shoes, may have a fear known as coulrophobia. Nearing the end of the year of 2016, this fear became prominent as people all over America began to see clowns hiding in forests. Anyone can see how these "creepy clowns" swept hysteria across all of America by looking more in depth at the history of clowns, feeling remorse for the good clowns, and by understanding why these clowns are creepy. Clowns have always been thought to bring joy and laughter to children and adults all over the world; however, this has since changed due to the wide spread of evil clowns involving people and movies. ... The other thought traveled to a psychotic and evil person who would attempt to scare children into having nightmares. No one can be sure of why these jokesters thought it was an acceptable idea; however, there had been a couple theories. One of the most common was for the social media being that they could have a chance of someone videotaping and posting on various applications with the hash tag #IfISeeAClown. Another speculation was about how the situation was an expression of human anxiety. A report about the clowns laid extra information down saying, "'these sorts of panics tend to surface when there's underlying social anxiety'" (Willingham). • 27. Clowns Coulrophobia Coulrophobia. That is the word for an excessive fear of clowns. While I don't think there are a lot of people who suffer from clown phobia, there are many people who just don't like them. Clowns have been around for ages and appear in most cultures in varying forms. From court jesters and mimes to rodeo and circus clowns their primary purpose was to make people laugh. To provide comic relief. Somewhere along the line clowns became dark. Facebook even has an "I Hate Clowns" page with some 400,000 followers! Is it because clowns always possessed a certain sadness. Were they always just mirroring humanity with all our imperfections or was it something else? I'm not sure, but clown phobia did not seem so prevalent prior to the IT movie in 1990. IT was based on Stephen King's 1986 novel of the same title and both the book and movie instilled a fear into what seems like an entire generation of kids. In the novel, Stephen King's IT was about a demon who feeds on fear. IT was banished to earth and wakes every 27 to 30 years to terrorize kids and feast upon their flesh, which tastes better to him when they are afraid. He can take any form but uses the clown because children are more easily frightened than adults. In the novel the clown is evil, alien, and other worldly. Something timeless and ageless, something eternal that can be stopped for a while but not destroyed. The portrayal of Pennywise in the original movie did not follow the book as well as the 2017 ... • 34. Pennywise The Clown Quotes Pennywise The Clown As a child, I vividly remembering watching the movie, "It". I remember this insignificant event clearly for one reason. It kept me up for days because I was so terrified by the film. "It" was originally a horror novel written by Steven King but was also released into a movie. Every great horror movie has a villain or monster and the monster in "It" goes by the name pennywise the clown. Pennywise the Clown induces fear in me and millions of others because his traits closely resemble those of Cohen's seven thesis which define what make a monster. In the opening scene of the movie, a little boy is shown playing in the rain. The boy's name is Georgie and he is doing what kids have done in the rain for years, which is playing with a toy boat in the gutter. The camera then shows Georgie's paper boat unfortunately flow into a gutter in the sidewalk. Georgie starts yelling "NOOO" at the loss of his boat and scarmbles up to the gutter. At first the gutter appears empty, until the audience hears a terrifying voice say "Hi Georgie!" and the terrifying clown head shown in my image appears inside the gutter. The clown we know as penywise. Pennywise asks if Georgie wants his boat back and Georgie says yes. Pennywise then asks Georgie if he wants a balloon and cotton candy. Georgie eagerly reaches inside and the demonic clown pulls him in and murders the boy. The appearance of pennywise the clown would induce nightmares in most children. He has pale white skin, a red nose and a receding hairline with the rest of his head covered in curly red clown hair. As for his clothes, Pennywise wears classic circus clown clothes. A one piece that is brightly colored with blue sleeves and a yellow body. The purpose of Pennywise the Clowns actions and appearance are meant to do one thing. To scare children. When pennywise the clown is first seen talking to Georgie, although he is extremely creepy being in a gutter, a place no one would ever want to see a clown he seems friendly in his demeanor. However, when he pulls Georgie into the gutter his face becomes even more demonic and he gives a chilling smile and laugh with fanglike, yellow stained teeth. • 36. Personal Narrative On Fire The mass of clownified humanity that we gazed upon was horrifically impressive. They were swarming upon the facility like a malicious rainbow sea. The facility was located in a secluded wilderness area and it had one road leading up to it. This road was stuffed with clown cars. Judging by how many of the vehicles were simply cars hastily and gaudily painted with spray paint, I deduced that much of this army was recently infected clowns. It turns out they had rapidly, within a day, recruited the next city over in preparation for this siege. Our wonderment was interrupted by the ricochet of bullets as the gun toting clowns fired upon us. It would take a lot more than that to kill this bird though. "Fire when ready," the pilot announced; the Ride of the Valkyries played over the intercom. My turn to gun came first and it was absolutely thrilling. I pulled on the triggers and the minigun made the most beautiful thrumming noise as thousands of bullets spewed from it and sliced apart and penetrated the hoard below. I was abjectly excited, because I knew the people I was killing were all curable, but curing them in such numbers seemed an impossible task. Fire applied to their noses was the only known cure. The result was, that, after a few struggles, Nelson breathed, sneezed, and proceeded to advertise to the inmates of the workhouse the fact of a new burden having been imposed upon the parish, by setting up as loud a cry as could reasonably have been expected from a male infant who had not been possessed of that very useful appendage, a voice, for a much longer space of time than three minutes and a quarter. Essay On Bottom's 'Bottom' The Good, the Bad, and the Drunk Revision Whether it be in a play, a book, a story, a song, or even real life, the jester, or fool, is there as a form of entertainment. He or she either purposefully or unintentionally leads others into laughter, thus making these people want him or her to be around them. However, not every jester will have the same humor nor perform similar actions as another. The jester could be a positive or even a negative influence. He or she could either help and honor the protagonist, or anyone, or attempt to "steal the crown" and even ruin the reputation of the protagonist. Bottom, the naive, "playful" fellow, and Falstaff, the rude, stubborn man, are similar due to their roles as fools; however, their ways with humor and actions towards others contrast majorly, which equally affect their placements of honor. Bottom's appears as a naive and innocent jester, giving the play a light, airy tone. Bottom's humor is more internal. His slurred and confusing speech causes him to be humorous. "You were best to call them generally, man by man, according to the scrip"(1.2.266). Bottom tends to stumble over and mix up his words, contradicting what he is saying. • 42. `` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story "'Repent, Harlequin!' said the Ticktockman" to better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the Ticktockman are developed through Ellison's imagery of their physical forms and of their personas. The dull setting of the short story is created through the author's imagery of machinery, particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison's use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to White, "the disruptive and rebellious Harlequin is an anomaly: the only human being distinguishable from machines" (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a "personality," which in and of itself is outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a "laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive" (953, 955). This imagery of a jester or a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. When the Harlequin is flying the air–boat that he uses to drop jelly beans on to the "metronomic" Timkin workers, he is not described as merely flying this boat over the people ... • 44. Persuasive Effect Of Advertising In Advertising Advertisements play a highly important role in the United States' consumerist society, as Americans are exposed to ads in nearly every form of media. Each of these ads target a different audience and have varying levels of persuasive effect. Take for example an Audi commercial that was released in 2017, where clowns drove around recklessly and created a dangerous environment for other drivers. In this commercial, different safety features of the Audi cars caused the vehicles to avoid crashes in spite of the dangerous driving around them. The content of this advertisement helps to determine the target audience: wealthy American drivers. The use of clowns within the commercial provided evidence that the ad primarily targeted American consumers, as clowns were depicted as both a symbol of humor and fear or danger. This media portrayal of clowns as a scary and dangerous symbol, along with the common childhood fear of clowns, is mostly unique to American culture. As a result, those from different countries or different cultural backgrounds would have less understanding of this advertisement. The high price for purchasing a new Audi vehicle also gave evidence that the advertisement was targeting wealthy consumers. The persuasive effect that the advertisement has on this target audience is determined by a number of message strategies used throughout the commercial. These strategies included fear appeal, appeals to positive emotion, and storytelling, with each of these strategies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Four Social Psychological Principles Of Clown Sighting In recent years, clown sightings have become quite common to see in news and social media. It is a phenomenon in which a group of people dressing up as evil clowns in incongruous settings near church, at parking lots and forests. While the majority of incidents are reported as pranks with no evidence of criminal activity, some incidents led to arrest as they involved assaults to individuals, threats to school and even robberies. This phenomenon of clown sightings is constantly occurring in the world around me globally and could be explained by four social psychological principles: group, deindividuation, groupthink and group polarization. Before understanding the social psychological principles applied to clown sightings, we need to know what group means as clown sightings usually happen in groups. A group is three or more people who interact and are independent in the sense that their needs and goals cause them to influence each other. In the clown sighting situation, people usually do it in a group with three or more people and they interact with each other with a goal to dress up as clown either for fun to prank people or actually doing act that is aggressive and threatening to others, like robbery, to achieve their goal of getting other people's money for instance. Although I hate to admit it, I was jealous of you Junior. I tried extremely hard in school and you still got valedictorian with ease." Ernie huffed. "I have been waiting for revenge on you, my erstwhile friend. I've always wanted to thwart you of your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Personal Narrative : A Short Story : The Story Of A Story I was awaken by the noise of the annoying ice cream truck. I slowly roll over as my eyes scan the room looking for the time; 3 am. I heard the sound of the ice cream truck again. I quietly got up and walked over to the hallway. I thought I was just hallucinating because it was just my 11 year old daughter Lizzy slamming the window down. Then I watched as she skipped down the steps with a five dollar bill in her right hand and her long blonde hair bouncing off her shoulders with every step she took. Down the stairs she went outside looking back over her shoulder making sure I didn't see her. That's when it had hit me, I heard the Ice cream truck once again. I dashed back in my room knocking everything over that was in my way and threw clothes all over my floor looking for my shorts. I sprinted down the steps, but by the time I got outside, she disappeared There was no sign of her. My heart dropped deep into my chest as if I were on the first drop of a ginormous rollercoaster. It was just silence , Dead silence and pitch black darkness. Were all the bad things that happen in the movies happening to me? Am I the reason she's gone? I'm gonna find my Lizzy and I'm gonna get her back! I stumbled back inside. My vision became blurry, salty tears began staining my face, and a huge lump grew in my throat. I snatched the house phone off the hook and struggled to press the 9 on the phone with my fidgety fingers as I continued to press two ones. "Hello this is 911 what's your ... • 70. The Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night by William... The Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare In English Literature, a fool is a person professionally counterfeits folly for the entertainment of others. They are always regarded as comic figures, which provide mediation under tensional circumstances. As Twelfth Night is an atypical romantic comedy, the jester is not the only fool who is subject to foolery, many other characters are subject to foolery by their silly acts as well. There are two types of fool in the play, namely Feste the professional jester who is in fact quite intelligent, and the non–jester fools, who are not fools but act like fools. Since Feste is the only designed fool in the play, the role of Feste will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Feste does not make any profound remarks, he seems to be the wisest person among all the characters in the comedy. Viola remarks this by saying "This fellow's wise enough to play the fool". Feste contributes to the comedy in the play. Despite the humour of the comedy, Feste dresses up as Sir Topaz, the preist and visits the imprisoned Malvolio with Maria and Sir Toby. Sir Topaz uses his humour to abuse Malvolio, who is still unaware that he is actually talking to the Feste than to the real Sir Topas. Feste calls Malvolio a "lunatic", "satan" and confuses him by wittingly making him a fool, "Then you are mad indeed, if you be no better in your wits than a fool" Feste plays on Malvolio's words and triumphs over him by twisting his words to make him look foolish. Enraged by his poor treatment he says he will revenge on the all, "I'll be revenged on the whole pack of you" which is again amusing as the audience would know that Malvolio is even more egotistical since then. Feste is not only a jester, but also a corrupter of language. As Viola says, "this fellow is more than just a clown", "he must know the humour of whom he jests", Feste knows how to make fun of people based on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. The Effects Of Transportation In The Rocky Horror Picture... Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the characters? Star Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing costumes. Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article, Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, "Transportation has three main components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self–report transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green & Brock, 2000)." (Media Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow sends our minds to another world for a short time. It helps us temporarily forget our daily stressors. "Need for cognition is the tendency to enjoy and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo & Petty, 1982)." (Media Psychology, 2008) The effect of transportation is apparent in watching someone play video games. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. My Fear Of Clowns Since I was little, I would be terrified of clowns. I would avoid them at all cost from pretending to be sick to misbehaving and getting grounded just so I will have an excuse as to why I did not attend birthday parties or any event that I presumed would involve the attendance of a clown. I never told anyone of said fear for the reason that I would be treated differently and looked upon as weak. I always kept it to myself hoping that one day it would magically disappear but it never did. As the years passed, my phobia of clowns prodigiously increased to the point I would have panic attacks from merely the thought of myself being in the presence of one. My compulsion of continuous denial came to an end when my phobia of clowns was clearly evident. Autumn had just commenced so the leaves began to change from stunning lime green to a beautiful golden yellow. The wind furiously blew everything in its course without remorse. Although windy, the weather was unexpectedly warm. The sun's rays were almost blinding in the cloudless pellucid blue sky. Yet, despite this delightful weather I could not help but feel uneased. My pulse rapidly intensified with each passing second as the distance between the circus and myself diminished. I was seven at the time, about to confront my biggest fear. My brother did not share the same angst as I felt towards clowns. Baffled as to how and why my brother could be yearning for our arrival at our destination, I attempted to focus my attention on ...
