Romanov Dynasty Case Study
There are many reasons behind the decline and fall of the Romanov Dynasty but I believe these are the five main reasons why it occurred. The first
two reasons are the socio–economic struggle faced by the Russian working class and the disappointment among Russian troops, which can be related
to as factors of the First World War. Secondly, another two reasons are the effects of failed reforms and the role of the Siberian freak Rasputin, which
can be categorised as reasons, linked to Nicholas II's leadership. Finally, the last main reason is the mass scale and organisation of protests.
I believe that the First World War is the most significant factor in the decline and fall of the Romanov dynasty, but in this case you could argue that

One massive event that occurred in 1905 was Bloody Sunday. This was a devastating event, which occurred inRussia due to innocent people wanting
justice and protection. The people wanted to reduce the working day to eight hours. They also wanted the employers and administrators to provide
medical care in the workplace. Over these few days of protesting 1000 people were trampled on to death. Moreover, the 1917 revolution led to
Nicholas' abdication. One of the main reasons for Nicholas' abdication was due to the mass amount of workers rights protests in February 1917.
They grew so big because of a series of uncoordinated strikes in the capital that immediately attacked the government over food shortages, which
gave more people a reason to protest. By 25th February 1917 over 200,000 people had protested on Petrograd streets. In 1905 protestors were
divided, but in 1917 almost all were united by their rejection of Tsarism. The Petrograd Soviet coordinated strikes and protests, making them harder to
stop because they would often occur randomly. By comparing February 1917 to 1905 you can easily figure out the reasons why protests were more
successful the second time

Reasons For The Assassination Of Romanovs
Anastasia's Rumors: Put to Rest like Her It would be nice to think that a child or two children could escape an unjust execution, but scientists, for years,
have proven that it was impossible to achieve. Scientists have said, shortly after the Romanov family was executed, that it was proven that the entire
Romanov family was killed in the basement in a house inside of Ekaterinburg, Russia. For years, people have tried to prove that it was possible to
escape the basement the family was held in, but every scenario that all the different scientists ran, it was proven impossible. The family went down to
the basement all together and never came out. Therefore, in 1918, the Romanov family line stopped with the execution of Nicholas II and his entire
family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a difference of opinion between the believers and the non–believers. The whole reason behind her death was as a result of the Russian
Revolution. The Russian Revolution was basically "organized by the Bolshevik party against the provisional government, [and] effected a change in
all economic, political, and social relationships in Russian society" ("Russian Revolution"). Basically, in simpler terms, the citizens revolted against
the crown in 1917. Considering the terms that the citizens wanted from the Czar and royal family, Czar Nicholas II gave up his right to rule, as well
as his son's right to rule

The Romanov Dynasty
Even with a stable government, monarchs, dynasties, and powerful royal families experience ups and downs with their rule over their people. The
adept Romanov family (1617–1917) was executed in 1918 in secret during an overthrow from Russia's 120 million starving people. With the help of
the family's closest officials, Russia had successfully concluded the rule of a Russian royal empire. The political and social ups and downs the
family was facing made the Romanovs vulnerable to an overall decline. Russia, being one of the strongest countries economically and population
wise, has shown how easily and how quickly one can dethrone their country. The decline of the Romanovs after the revolutions of 1917 was due to
foreign relations during World War I, social and economic difficulties beside the working class and troops, and Tsar Nicholas II's hardship with being
a strong leader to his people.
When modernization struck Europe, the government of Russia always kept their defense stylings similar to their previous rulers. They never changed.
They were very late to industrialization and urban development. Mass quantities of troops were needed in World War 1 because of population ratios,

Romanov Dynasty In Russia
Animal Farm is a novel that is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. For 300 years the Romanov dynasty ruled Russia, it was supported by
conservatism peasants, the secret police, the church and the army. A dynasty with that much support and power shouldn't be able to fall so easily. So
what exactly caused the powerful regime to fall? It was mainly what supported the Romanov dynasty; farming peasants, the church, and the army. In the
books of history countries and communities that cannot adapt, and change into new modern thinking, tend to fail. This is what happened to Russia.
New ideas like communism and industrialization jeopardized the Tsar's power. So Nicholas II tried his hardest to stand his ground and maintain himself
in leadership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Romanov dynasty was the last imperial dynasty to rule Russia. During the Romanov's reign Russia became and remained a major European power.
In the beginning of 20th century the Romanov family, who had ruled Russia since the 17th century, was overthrown and the monarchy was no more.
There are several reasons why this happened.
The main reason for the fall of the Romanov's was the series of military defeats. First there were defeats in the Far East to the Japanese. World War I
was a total disaster for Russia. The Russian army suffered defeat after defeat at the hands of Germany. The effort and cost of the war meant terrible
suffering for soldiers and civilians alike. It was estimated that almost two million soldiers and a similar

Rasputin : The Mad Monk Of Russia
Shandee Ballard Ryan Snelgrove English 12 14 September 2017 The Mad Monk of Russia The czarina, or queen of Russia was so very saddened
as she watched her son cry out in agonizing pain. He had fallen or gotten a bruise that had caused major internal bleeding because of his condition
of Hemophilia. He would ask his mother, "When I am dead, it will not hurt anymore, will it?" A man then walked in and brought with him a
calming presence. He touched the poor boy's forehead and his cries subsided. The czarina was astonished and only could think of one way he
could have done this miracle: her prayers had been answered and he had been sent to her by God (Frost). This man's name was Rasputin. Rasputin
became a trusted advisor of the czarina because of who he was and he received more and more power because of this connection to the crown of
Russia. Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was born around 1872 in the village of Pokrovskoe in Siberia, Russia (Frost). He was born into a peasant
family seemingly destined for an ordinary life. He married a local woman Praskovya Dubrovina and worked on his farm (Harris). Rasputin began to
have an interest in religion and stayed at a monastery for many months and changed. He came out as a "restless, agitated, depressed, and ecstatic"
person and he started to travel many pilgrimages on foot that spanned all over Europe and Asia. He was very dedicated to his religious career. He

The Romanov Family
The book The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion and the Fall of Imperial Russia by Candace Fleming is an eye opening biography about one of
Russia's most famous families. Since 1613, the Romanov family had ruled Russia, and were the last imperial dynasty to ever take the throne. Tsar
Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra had five children, consisting of only one eligible heir toRussia. The author's purpose of writing this book was to
explain the downfall of one Russia's most important families. Candace Fleming wrote the book to give insight and share her knowledge on how the
Romanov family witnessed and committed horrible acts of violence and stupidity which ultimately lead to their murders. On May 26, 1896, Nicholas

Alexis was born with a rare disease called hemophilia. This meant that when Alexis began to bleed he would bleed uncontrollably and it could not be
stopped. Rasputin treated Alexis as if he were his nanny, reading him stories, curing his headaches, but most importantly, controlling hisbleeding. It was
said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow, without any explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would
stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis' suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra's undivided support and
it gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what is to happen in the country. She in turn
listened to him and told her husband everything. Although Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat in the Duma and was elected in
1912. He became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged
him to dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real power. 1913 was also the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the
importance of the Duma was intentionally slighted. Rasputin, in an act of defiance, sat in a seat set aside for the Duma. The president of the Duma

The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for over three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II's
opposed reign, a revolution began that transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and
introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for change and exacerbated any existing grievances to the
point at which they overpowered all loyalty to the Tsar and destroyed the monarchy. The war brought many ofRussia's underlying social, political,
economic, and military problems into sharp focus which were destructive forces leading to the downfall of the Russian dynasty. On a military scale

The diversion of resources to the war effort caused severe problems for the civilian population of Russia. The loss of agricultural workers and
horses to the army, alongside the takeover of railway lines by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal
communications. Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn't joined the army to sustain agricultural output. The
lack of workers and resources in the rural areas put a strain on the already backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in 1914,
had received 2200 railway wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate transport saw the
already limited city food supplies left rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the limited supply of food, rationing was taking place, under which
each person was entitled to a mere 50g of bread per day. The main priority was to supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence over food
supply of the cities. The lack of food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the people to take part in strikes and demonstrations in Petrograd,
which led to the abdication of the Tsar. Living standards were on the decline. The rapid industrial growth during war caused problems as it enlarged the
working class and drew labourers from the countryside, putting strain on antiquated urban infrastructure and overstretching

The Romanov Dynasty held control of power in the Russian Empire for over three centuries, from 1613 to 1917. The Romanov family accelerated
Russia into becoming a major European power that would last until present times. Russia's last dynasty began with Mikhail Romanov being crowned
as Tsar in 1613 after the Time of Troubles ("Who Were the Romanovs?"). The Time of Troubles inRussia's history refers to the time from 1598 and

With the war ending disastrously for Russia, there were many repercussions that were felt across the vast Empire, mainly dealing with the economy.
This backlash led a group of dissidents to peacefully protest against the autocratic government (McCallen). To halt the protests, Nicholas II approved the
construction of an assembly based on representation, which would later be called the Duma. With this newly found assembly, Nicholas promised to
initiate reforms to progress the nation further, which ended quickly. Due to the rising levels of dissent against the government, revolutionary groups
began to form. Out of these groups, the most notable is the Bolsheviks ("Romanov Family Executed"). The devastating defeats that Russia faced when
the nation joined in the fight of World War Ibrought about even higher levels disunity across the state. These defeats led to a widespread shortage of

Their ideas and ideals were known throughout and depending on how the people viewed them themselves, their ideas may have much more easily
swayed and stuck with the public. Their views on Peter the Great were therefore easily exerted out to the people and these views depended highly on
their relation to Peter and what they themselves heard of him. This is how Peter throughout these empresses' rulings became more than a past ruler, he
became a legacy of some sort. Empress Anna Ioannovna ruled from the early to nearly–mid 1700s, she was known to be rather fat, ugly, and have an
unlikable personality. She was very crude but largely due to her childhood and even her life during adulthood. Her mother had a distaste towards her,
"It seemed that the mere appearance of her awkward, unattractive daughter spoiled Praskovia's mood" (Anisimov 65). In regards to Peter the Great, she
was his neice, and his mentally–ill brothers' daughter. One of the very first major things that Peter did towards Anna was make her along with her
mother and sisters move to St. Petersburg – a very dreary, cold place that paled in comparison to Moscow where she originally lived. Living in St.

The Rebellion Of The Romanov Dynasty
O n March 2nd 1917, the rule of a 300–year–old dynasty was laid to rest as Tsar Nicholas II signed his warrant for abdication, officially sanctioning
the end of the Romanov Dynasty. The immediate cause permitting this action was the success of the February Revolution however; this event
evolved because of several internal and external factors, both long and short term in nature. Predominant among all we recognise the perpetuation of
an outdated system of rule, the repercussions of rapid industrialisation, emerging doctrines of liberalism, political inflexibility and the vices imposed
by the First World War. These factors progressively embellished societal discontent among the Russian people and inexorably stimulated the
insurrection of the February Revolution. The means by which Nicholas II sought to rule as Tsar as well as his intrinsic characteristics played a
significant role in the occurrence of Revolution in 1917. Nicholas was conservative by nature. His insufficient leadership tuition, brought about by
his unexpected ascendance to power in 1894, forced his unwavering reliance on the systems established by his predecessors. Nicholas was a man of
weak fortitude, his poor decisions and miscalculations throughout his reign owe much to his personality. "I pity the Tsar. I pity Russia. He is a poor
and unhappy sovereign...He is obviously a good and quite intelligent man, but he lacks will power, and it is from that character that his state defects

Some theories say the bodies were supposed to be buried in a mineshaft, but due to the truck breaking down they were instead buried on the side of

put in another mineshaft. After both failed attempts, Yurovsky's men resorted to digging a grave for the bodies (Cavendish). After an investigation

There are many areas and factors to how Russia developed into an Enlightened Absolute and European country. In order to answer the question above
I will need to understand Russia from the wider picture; how the Romanovs established authority, what was the significant changes in the Russian
society, how did the economy develop, what was the ideology of the people and was foreign policies achieved by the monarchs of this century? These
questions have opened up debates by many historians, such as Lucy Worsley, Lindsey Hughes and Matthew S. Anderson. Through the broad task at

This year of travelling encouraged and influenced Peter into making Russia a great nation. M.S Anderson is convinced that Peter wanted to learn
about shipbuilding, navigation and seamanship. This corresponds with Lucy Worsley ("Reinventing Russia", Empire of the Tsars: Romanov Russia
with Lucy Worsley, BBC FOUR, 10/01/2016, London). As Lucy Worsley talks about in the TV Show, this year of Peter travelling 'incognito' is the
year that "changed Russia forever". However, whether this improved politics, the economy and the social attitude in Russia is still open to debate
among historians. An argument that is still put in place today is the main Westernisation came from Catherine the Great, and wasn't from Peter.
Catherine in 1785, 60 years after the death of Peter I, issued the Charter of the Nobility. The Charter by some is seen as Revolutionary and instituted

The Downfall Of The Romanov Dynasty
In a burgeoning climate of autocracy, the Romanov dynasty was firmly established in the societal framework of early 20th–century Russia. Having
been in varying degrees of absolute political control over an approximate time period of four hundred years, their eventual undoing marked a power
shift polarising the imperial regime laid out by countless Tsars beforehand. Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, is recognised to have a degree of
personal responsibility for the downfall of the Romanovs, yet the extent to which his decision–making skills can be held accountable is questioned by
some historians. Despite this, multiple political, social, and military facets of Nicholas II's reign were handled with instability, and his perceived lack
of legitimacy due to this poor decision–making ultimately was a major causative factor to the downfall of his family's vast dynasty.
Various aspects of Nicholas II's political decisions reflected his clear unsuitability for the role of Tsar, and these decisions form a preliminary basis for
both his own legacy of incompetency & the eventual undoing of the Romanovs. In comparison to rulers preceding, Nicholas was ill–prepared for the
role: his father, Alexander III, failed to adequately develop his son's understanding of civil & state responsibilities before his death in 1894, under the
guise that he would live long enough to teach Nicholas of these affairs. Upon his consecration as Tsar, Nicholas spoke in his diary of his

lack of confidence and weakness allowed him to be governed by other individuals. It must be concluded that although Rasputin did have an influence

Brovs Vs Romanovs
On the absolutist side you had the leaders of Spain, France, and Russia all laying claim on their areas, and they were saying that they had absolute
power and answered to no one besides themselves and God.Then, in England there was constitutional side where there was a leader who was either
voted in or was born in to play. In England, the leader most commonly came from a royal line. The difference in England was that the king didn't
have the absolute power or say. Most events would be put up for a vote where the parliament would have a say in what happened as they were the
financial backers. In the absolutist monarchy the disadvantage was with the peasants as they got little reward while the biggest advantage was with the

If that leader can't assure the security than others are needed and it no longer acts as an absolute government. Louis succeeded in running France
successfully for quite a time just as the Romanov family ruled Russia making it an incredible military power. The Romanovs showcased the success of
an absolutist monarchy by being in control until 1917. In a constitutional monarchy one could say a great advantage came in that normal people had a
voice. In comparison, there is the absolutist monarch who doesn't take anyone's vote while the constitutional monarch will hear from the nobleman
what one may hear from the peasants. Charles I felt the true strength of parliament when he needed financial backing, and the backing would only be
given when he agreed that parliament would have a vote in ordinary taxing and unfair imprisonment. The parliament itself was made up of nobleman as
well as landowners and merchants who all wanted a say in that the parliament couldn't be broken up when Charles didn't like what they were doing. The

Revolution: The Destruction Of The Romanov Dynasty
In 1917, the year of the Russian Revolution, there were two revolutions that took place to ensure good change in Russia. The first of the revolutions
was the March revolution, the purpose of it was to overtake the imperial government and the second named the November revolution; which placed the
Bolsheviks in power. The Russian Revolution took place during a difficult time inRussia. These distresses began before World War I and lasted up
until the 1930's. Russia's population was built up of mostly poor, starving, unfortunate peasants at this point; caused by the prevalent and growing civil
unrest, as well as dramatic food shortages which led to a huge rebellion against the present government. "World War I provided the catalyst for

and the revolutionary groups that were pushing for positive change in Russia. The destruction of the Romanov Dynasty had many consequences as
well, which will be explained in greater detail in this essay .
Prior to the Russian revolution, rural Russia experienced significant change (socially and economically) between 1861 and the Revolution of 1905 and
Russia began to improve their civil rights for their rural population; this change was triggered by the emancipation of the serfs. Property rights were
also transferred from the nobility to their peasant population. Additionally, there were expansions done to the railway network that allowed Russia

The Romanov Dynasty I.The Romanov Dynasty Background Beginning in 1613, the Romanov Dynasty has become one of Russia's most known.

This meant getting rid of any threat that could potentially take them down. Having no problem with executing any and everyone who could stop

executed by the Bolshevik troops. Most were killed by a plethora of bullets fired into a small room. It is rumored that some were beaten, tortured,
and raped before meeting their final fate. Many versions and rumors of the Romanov execution still run rapid today. One of the most famous rumors
regarding the execution is the survival of Grand Duchess Anastasia. For years, many people around the world debated rather Grand Duchess
Anastasia survived the brutal execution or was killed along with her family. If Grand Duchess Anastasia was alive this meant she would inherit
everything left behind, this caused many imposters to surface. Unfortunately, any speculation of her survival has been proven false due to DNA
evidence. Even after tests have proven Anastasia died during the execution, many people still choose to believe she survived. I choose to side with the
conclusion that she in fact did not survive. As sad as it is to accept that none of the Romanov family survived the brutal execution, DNA has proven

Rise and Fall of the Romanov Dynasty
The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for over three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II's
contradictory reign, a revolution began that transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and
introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
The Russian people were ruled by an autocratic government since 1613 when the Romanov Dynasty began. The government was run by the Tsar who
had unlimited power over the rest of Russia. The Tsar set up a system of government involving an imperial council, a small cabinet of ministers and a

By 1916, dissatisfaction within Russian monarch had reached boiling point. Rasputin was murdered by the Tsar's own cousins and the majority of the
parliament and upper classes 'were no longer willing to meet expectations of loyalty, respect and patriotism.'
Even though the Russian Revolution transpired quite suddenly, the foundations of it may have started centuries earlier. Since the 1700s, the ideas of
European regime had begun to influence the minds of Russian citizens. Lower classes began to believe in democratic rights and equality, newspapers
and books spread concepts about universal rights and many believed in a future with a just ruler and a more cultured society.
From the 1800s, the Russian monarchy gradually became weaker and increasingly fragile. After the death of Alexander I in 1825, a group of
Decembrists made up of thousands of soldiers seized advantage of a succession issue and demanded reforms plus a written constitution. This
displayed a hint of light and prompted many to rethink the government system and their place within the hierarchy. Then after the death of Nicholas I
in 1855, Alexander II rose to power and was referred to as the 'great liberator' after emancipating the Russian serfs in 1861. While the act earned
Alexander public affection and respect, it angered landowners, created an economic crisis and also

The Family Romanov Analysis
Candace Fleming's 2014 history book The Family Romanov is the best kind of nonfiction – so lively and engaging that some of its young adult
audience thinks of it as a novel. Subtitled Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia, this work synthesizes the historical, economic, and social
context that led up to the 1917 Communist Revolution in Russia and to the murder of the last Tsar and his family. Fleming uses primary sources to give
voice both to the aristocracy that was caught unawares by the rising dissatisfaction of its subjects and to the peasants and laborers whose misery and
deprivation created a fertile environment for revolutionary fervor. The richness of this documentary approach makes this tumultuous history come alive.

The result was such a mess that other courtiers eventually conspired to assassinate the monk. Meanwhile, no one was dealing with the food shortages
that ravaged the country. Riots became protests, and protests became full–scale occupations of government buildings. The rebels installed their own

Rasputin Essay
Gregory Efimovich Rasputin is one of the most debated characters of the 20th Century. Thousands have discussed whether Rasputin was a holy man
who came to the aide of the royal family or more simply, a cheat who thrived in womanising and in truth, a man who had a debauched sexual appetite.
After all the word "Rasputin" in Russian mean "the debauched one". But in the following pages, I will try
to explore a better side of Rasputin; I will attempt to give an accurate analysis of Rasputin and let the facts prove who Rasputin was.

One day, while working in the fields, Rasputin claimed to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary. According to his version, she instructed him to
become a pilgrim. He decides to bid his family farewell and sets off on a staggering journey on foot that would take him to the Orthodox monastery at
Mount Ethos in Greece, two thousand miles away. When he returned to his village, his semi–religious aura seemed even more impressive. He attracted
large crowds when he preached, although his version of the Gospel, sprinkled with half–learnt truths about sin and salvation, was decidedly
un–Orthodox. Rasputin also allegedly began to practice what he preached, bedding as many of his female disciples as would allow him. According to
Rasputin, such sexual unions, far from being wrong, were simply a way to true penance, which in turn would lead to salvation. It is one of the greatest
contradictions in Rasputin's story, and he was never able to reconcile his physical desires with his spiritual goals. Shortly after the turn of the century,
Rasputin left Pokrovskoe on another pilgrimage which would take him to Kazan and finally to St. Petersburg. Here he attracted much attention among
the local Orthodox hierarchy for his seemingly genuine desire for salvation coupled with his undoubted gift for speaking and persuasion. He

Nicholas introduced several policies which harmed his countries economic prosperity. One thing that caused massive instability was the encouragement

This war created more economic problems in the cities of Russia. Inflation had know gripped the city with some goods and services prices rising by

Russia ruling as any other would following custom however, once the last tsar took over the empire things began to take a turn for the worst. There are
several factors that could take responsibility for the fall of the Romanovs which include: resistance from the people, incompetent rulers, political and
economic complications that began to arise.
The tsars were no longer able to satisfy the desires of the people. The people had high expectations of the dynasty that Nicolas was just not able to

significant factors which contributed to decline and the eventual fall of this 300 year dynasty. These momentous factors range from tsar Nicholas II,

keep her crown. She learned the delicate art of deception at a very young age. Catherine II, or Catherine the Great as she is more often called, was
born on May 2, 1729 in Stettin, Prussia, she became the Russian empress in 1762. Catherine obtained the throne by conspiring a plan to overthrow her
husband King Peter III. Under her reign, she organized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth persisted in having Catherine go on numerous bloodletting treatments, while Johanna was against the procedure. As Catherine recovered,
the relationship between her and Grand Duke Peter grew. The couple soon became engaged and Catherine even converted to the Russian Orthodox
faith. With her new religion, she also received a new name, Yekaterina or Catherine. On August 21, 1745, Catherine II was married to Grand Duke
Peter, and became a grand duchess of the Russian royal family. To the public eye she and Peter proved to be a happy couple, but Peter was childish
and unsophisticated. Her husband would rather play with toy soldiers and mistresses, than spend time with his wife. With so much time on her hands,
Catherine took up many pastimes such as reading. Since Catherine and Peter had a distance relationship, they didn't have children until nine years
after they were married. Although, on September 20, 1754 she gave birth to her first birth son, Paul. The legitimacy of the child was called into
question by a few scholar who believe the father of the child is Sergi Saltykov, a Russian noble and member of the court. Others protested that Paul
resembled Peter, leading them to believe he was the father. During Paul's childhood, Catherine got to spend very little time with him as Elizabeth took
over raising him. When Empress Elizabeth died on December 25,1761, Catherine's husband took the throne,

Romanov Dynasty Case Study

  • 1. Romanov Dynasty Case Study There are many reasons behind the decline and fall of the Romanov Dynasty but I believe these are the five main reasons why it occurred. The first two reasons are the socio–economic struggle faced by the Russian working class and the disappointment among Russian troops, which can be related to as factors of the First World War. Secondly, another two reasons are the effects of failed reforms and the role of the Siberian freak Rasputin, which can be categorised as reasons, linked to Nicholas II's leadership. Finally, the last main reason is the mass scale and organisation of protests. I believe that the First World War is the most significant factor in the decline and fall of the Romanov dynasty, but in this case you could argue that either Nicholas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One massive event that occurred in 1905 was Bloody Sunday. This was a devastating event, which occurred inRussia due to innocent people wanting justice and protection. The people wanted to reduce the working day to eight hours. They also wanted the employers and administrators to provide medical care in the workplace. Over these few days of protesting 1000 people were trampled on to death. Moreover, the 1917 revolution led to Nicholas' abdication. One of the main reasons for Nicholas' abdication was due to the mass amount of workers rights protests in February 1917. They grew so big because of a series of uncoordinated strikes in the capital that immediately attacked the government over food shortages, which gave more people a reason to protest. By 25th February 1917 over 200,000 people had protested on Petrograd streets. In 1905 protestors were divided, but in 1917 almost all were united by their rejection of Tsarism. The Petrograd Soviet coordinated strikes and protests, making them harder to stop because they would often occur randomly. By comparing February 1917 to 1905 you can easily figure out the reasons why protests were more successful the second time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Reasons For The Assassination Of Romanovs Anastasia's Rumors: Put to Rest like Her It would be nice to think that a child or two children could escape an unjust execution, but scientists, for years, have proven that it was impossible to achieve. Scientists have said, shortly after the Romanov family was executed, that it was proven that the entire Romanov family was killed in the basement in a house inside of Ekaterinburg, Russia. For years, people have tried to prove that it was possible to escape the basement the family was held in, but every scenario that all the different scientists ran, it was proven impossible. The family went down to the basement all together and never came out. Therefore, in 1918, the Romanov family line stopped with the execution of Nicholas II and his entire family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a difference of opinion between the believers and the non–believers. The whole reason behind her death was as a result of the Russian Revolution. The Russian Revolution was basically "organized by the Bolshevik party against the provisional government, [and] effected a change in all economic, political, and social relationships in Russian society" ("Russian Revolution"). Basically, in simpler terms, the citizens revolted against the crown in 1917. Considering the terms that the citizens wanted from the Czar and royal family, Czar Nicholas II gave up his right to rule, as well as his son's right to rule ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Romanov Dynasty Research Paper The Romanov Dynasty Even with a stable government, monarchs, dynasties, and powerful royal families experience ups and downs with their rule over their people. The adept Romanov family (1617–1917) was executed in 1918 in secret during an overthrow from Russia's 120 million starving people. With the help of the family's closest officials, Russia had successfully concluded the rule of a Russian royal empire. The political and social ups and downs the family was facing made the Romanovs vulnerable to an overall decline. Russia, being one of the strongest countries economically and population wise, has shown how easily and how quickly one can dethrone their country. The decline of the Romanovs after the revolutions of 1917 was due to foreign relations during World War I, social and economic difficulties beside the working class and troops, and Tsar Nicholas II's hardship with being a strong leader to his people. When modernization struck Europe, the government of Russia always kept their defense stylings similar to their previous rulers. They never changed. They were very late to industrialization and urban development. Mass quantities of troops were needed in World War 1 because of population ratios, but because the ... The Russian population wanted to be free of monarchs and having a weak leader was easy to do so. Nicholas II was one of the weakest leaders of the dynasty due to all of the things that slid past him. • 4. Romanov Dynasty In Russia Animal Farm is a novel that is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. For 300 years the Romanov dynasty ruled Russia, it was supported by conservatism peasants, the secret police, the church and the army. A dynasty with that much support and power shouldn't be able to fall so easily. So what exactly caused the powerful regime to fall? It was mainly what supported the Romanov dynasty; farming peasants, the church, and the army. In the books of history countries and communities that cannot adapt, and change into new modern thinking, tend to fail. This is what happened to Russia. New ideas like communism and industrialization jeopardized the Tsar's power. So Nicholas II tried his hardest to stand his ground and maintain himself in leadership. ... Men were drafted to front lines, there were no longer people left to work farms and provide food. In the beginning of 20th century the Romanov family, who had ruled Russia since the 17th century, was overthrown and the monarchy was no more. There are several reasons why this happened. Rasputin was a staret that worked his way into the royal family. The influence of Rasputin on Alexis, the heir to the throne, gave him great power. The power given to Rasputin had a notable impact among the Russian people as well as Russia. Grigory Efimovich, better known as Rasputin, was born in the town of Pokrovskoe in 1871. The name Rasputin means "dissolute," for his tireless pursuit of girls, and "crossroads," in which his town was located between. He had a dual reputation of "second sight" from the beginning. It was said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow, without any explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis' suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra's undivided support and it gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what is to happen in the country. She in turn listened to him and told her husband everything. Although Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat in the Duma and was elected in 1912. He became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged him to dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real power. 1913 was also the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the importance of the Duma was intentionally slighted. In 1917, during Nicholas II's opposed reign, a revolution began that transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for change and exacerbated any existing grievances to the point at which they overpowered all loyalty to the Tsar and destroyed the monarchy. The war brought many ofRussia's underlying social, political, economic, and military problems into sharp focus which were destructive forces leading to the downfall of the Russian dynasty. The loss of agricultural workers and horses to the army, alongside the takeover of railway lines by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal communications. Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn't joined the army to sustain agricultural output. The lack of workers and resources in the rural areas put a strain on the already backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in 1914, had received 2200 railway wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate transport saw the already limited city food supplies left rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the limited supply of food, rationing was taking place, under which each person was entitled to a mere 50g of bread per day. The main priority was to supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence over food supply of the cities. The lack of food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the people to take part in strikes and demonstrations in Petrograd, which led to the abdication of the Tsar. Living standards were on the decline. The rapid industrial growth during war caused problems as it enlarged the working class and drew labourers from the countryside, putting strain on antiquated urban infrastructure and overstretching ... • 14. The Rebellion Of The Romanov Dynasty O n March 2nd 1917, the rule of a 300–year–old dynasty was laid to rest as Tsar Nicholas II signed his warrant for abdication, officially sanctioning the end of the Romanov Dynasty. The immediate cause permitting this action was the success of the February Revolution however; this event evolved because of several internal and external factors, both long and short term in nature. Predominant among all we recognise the perpetuation of an outdated system of rule, the repercussions of rapid industrialisation, emerging doctrines of liberalism, political inflexibility and the vices imposed by the First World War. These factors progressively embellished societal discontent among the Russian people and inexorably stimulated the insurrection of the February Revolution. The means by which Nicholas II sought to rule as Tsar as well as his intrinsic characteristics played a significant role in the occurrence of Revolution in 1917. Nicholas was conservative by nature. His insufficient leadership tuition, brought about by his unexpected ascendance to power in 1894, forced his unwavering reliance on the systems established by his predecessors. Nicholas was a man of weak fortitude, his poor decisions and miscalculations throughout his reign owe much to his personality. "I pity the Tsar. I pity Russia. • 19. The Downfall Of The Romanov Dynasty In a burgeoning climate of autocracy, the Romanov dynasty was firmly established in the societal framework of early 20th–century Russia. Having been in varying degrees of absolute political control over an approximate time period of four hundred years, their eventual undoing marked a power shift polarising the imperial regime laid out by countless Tsars beforehand. Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, is recognised to have a degree of personal responsibility for the downfall of the Romanovs, yet the extent to which his decision–making skills can be held accountable is questioned by some historians. Despite this, multiple political, social, and military facets of Nicholas II's reign were handled with instability, and his perceived lack of legitimacy due to this poor decision–making ultimately was a major causative factor to the downfall of his family's vast dynasty. Various aspects of Nicholas II's political decisions reflected his clear unsuitability for the role of Tsar, and these decisions form a preliminary basis for both his own legacy of incompetency & the eventual undoing of the Romanovs. In comparison to rulers preceding, Nicholas was ill–prepared for the role: his father, Alexander III, failed to adequately develop his son's understanding of civil & state responsibilities before his death in 1894, under the guise that he would live long enough to teach Nicholas of these affairs. Since the 1700s, the ideas of European regime had begun to influence the minds of Russian citizens. Lower classes began to believe in democratic rights and equality, newspapers and books spread concepts about universal rights and many believed in a future with a just ruler and a more cultured society. • 29. The Family Romanov Analysis Candace Fleming's 2014 history book The Family Romanov is the best kind of nonfiction – so lively and engaging that some of its young adult audience thinks of it as a novel. Subtitled Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia, this work synthesizes the historical, economic, and social context that led up to the 1917 Communist Revolution in Russia and to the murder of the last Tsar and his family. Fleming uses primary sources to give voice both to the aristocracy that was caught unawares by the rising dissatisfaction of its subjects and to the peasants and laborers whose misery and deprivation created a fertile environment for revolutionary fervor. The richness of this documentary approach makes this tumultuous history come alive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the various pacts between the European countries, Russia was forced to enter WWI. Its losses were tremendous and its economy was wrecked. Unsure of what to do, Nicholas took personal charge of the army and left Rasputin in charge of the day–to–day tasks of running the country. The result was such a mess that other courtiers eventually conspired to assassinate the monk. Meanwhile, no one was dealing with the food shortages that ravaged the country. Riots became protests, and protests became full–scale occupations of government buildings. The rebels installed their own government, and soon Nicholas's palace guards abandoned their posts. It was at this moment that Nicholas suddenly tried to come to terms, acceding to the demand for constitutional monarchy and even abdicating the throne. But of course, this was now too little, too ... Thousands have discussed whether Rasputin was a holy man who came to the aide of the royal family or more simply, a cheat who thrived in womanising and in truth, a man who had a debauched sexual appetite. After all the word "Rasputin" in Russian mean "the debauched one". But in the following pages, I will try to explore a better side of Rasputin; I will attempt to give an accurate analysis of Rasputin and let the facts prove who Rasputin was. One day, while working in the fields, Rasputin claimed to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary. According to his version, she instructed him to become a pilgrim. He decides to bid his family farewell and sets off on a staggering journey on foot that would take him to the Orthodox monastery at Mount Ethos in Greece, two thousand miles away. When he returned to his village, his semi–religious aura seemed even more impressive. He attracted large crowds when he preached, although his version of the Gospel, sprinkled with half–learnt truths about sin and salvation, was decidedly un–Orthodox. Rasputin also allegedly began to practice what he preached, bedding as many of his female disciples as would allow him. According to Rasputin, such sexual unions, far from being wrong, were simply a way to true penance, which in turn would lead to salvation. It is one of the greatest contradictions in Rasputin's story, and he was never able to reconcile his physical desires with his spiritual goals. Shortly after the turn of the century, Rasputin left Pokrovskoe on another pilgrimage which would take him to Kazan and finally to St. Petersburg. Here he attracted much attention among the local Orthodox hierarchy for his seemingly genuine desire for salvation coupled with his undoubted gift for speaking and persuasion. He ...
