It identifies 12 key customer needs for a water purifier and their relative importance. It then defines 12 metrics to measure performance against those needs. A needs-metrics matrix maps the relationship between needs and metrics. Competitive benchmarking is presented comparing the company's product to two competitors on each metric. A target specification table sets marginal and ideal target values for each metric. The final specification table sets final target values for the water purifier design.
