2. Personal Learning Preference
In the beginning of the course when I took the learning style preference test my results were as follows
Active-3, Sensing-3, Global- 1, and Visual/Verbal 9. The results were exactly accurate since I got the
highest score of a 9 for a visual verbal learner, which I highly believe that I am when it comes to working
and learning a new concept. As the semester went on I began to notice that my learning style preference
began to change and I was not much a visual learner but more so a Sensing learner. While trying out new
applications and exploring different websites I was not able to only rely on images to understand the
complexity of the app so I needed to read about each and further expand my knowledge and facts of the
application or website. I noticed that by doing this I was able to get a better understanding of what I was
dealing with and learning about at the same time.
The survey states that I was a visual learner (9), sensing (4), and active (6) and global (1). In a way this was correct
because I am used to seeing a problem worked out before I can understand it. I think that if I visualize it in my head
it would not help me out as much but it is better than nothing. I like to see myself as a visual learner still, even
though my global was low I think that concrete facts are better than an actual lecture because I am better at
remembering something that I see. This class helped me try to utilize all of my preferences for learning, even
though it was hard
3. Thoughts about Learning Preferences
At the end of the semester, my thinking has changed about learning preferences quit a bit overall due to
the fact that I was able to learn with different styles. I always believe that I could only learn visually but
it turned I was able to be a Sensing learner as well as a global learner. Yes, knowing ones learning
preference does make a difference with learning success because if one is able to know the many styles
of learning they have to work with the more knowledge that can be gathered and less closed mindless
will occur.
I am glad that I am an active learner, but I wish I could just switch on other learning preferences, that
would make school so much easier. Honestly before I took this class I never thought about the different
learning preferences that are actually used. I now try to use most of the learning ways as possible
throughout my classes even though I do not prefer all of them. I am mostly active and reflective.
Hopefully I will continue to utilize them and now knowing that the difference of the ways I can learn will
further my education. Knowing about the different ways I can try to change it up in the classroom if the
teacher begins teaching another way.
4. Learning Pathway
At the beginning of the class the learning pathway that I chose was to be a learning sage mainly because
I like to be able to use my device to its every ability and more. I like to be able to learn what the device is
capable of doing for what my intended purpose for the purchase is. Since I use technology on a daily
basis whether it’d be my IPhone, laptop, iPod, or simply watching a PowerPoint lecture presentation at
school. Multimedia is continuously surrounding me and is something that I use frequently. My pathway
stayed as a learning sage because I want to continue to learn about newer technologies that are soon to
come.
At the beginning of the semester, I decided to choose the Learning Guide for my learning pathway to
work with others and broaden my knowledge. I believe I learned a lot about the multimedia technology,
well more than I knew, I thought about changing my learning pathway but I decided to stick with it
2. because I didn’t really know too much about it at all anyways. I really did not work with too many
people in this class but I decided to keep the learning guide pathway because, well at least I’m working
with someone on the final. I only used the Ipad to work with my roommate to try to learn a new
language (Spanish).
5. Activity Contribution
The activity that helped me broaden my understanding to use multimedia was the screen casting. I
never understood how screen cast worked and how it was used. I have used screen casting in one of my
other classes from school and it was very easy. The thing that helped me most was contributing to
others in the class reviewing their questions and being able to answer them actually helped me learn
quite a bit.
For many of my course this semester, I was required to have a presentation. Along with these
presentations I usually made a Power Point Presentation which was how I helped utilize multimedia
into my learning or teaching in a way. Obviously, I was using these Power Point Presentations to present
to my other classmates which coincides with working with others. As we learned from the lectures, we
could consume and create with web sites, for example when I wrote papers I used many websites to cite
information.
6. Top Multimedia Technologies
The multimedia quest that I explored for further learning was screen casting. I didn’t think it would help
my learning preference but in reality it was the best for me. Since I am a visual learner hearing the
things do not being able to see the things and be able to interact with the text and with the students on
itec. The social technology accommodated m y learning preferences very well I was able to interact with
the text read write and review, I was able to conversate and chat with people from my class and was
able to click links to learn more. Visually it was the best thing for my learning preference.
The Multimedia quest that I chose was well, multimedia, it really helped me realize that learning can be
way more interesting, if people put more interest in it. If we had more interactive textbooks and Ebooks
linked into our school, I believe our school would not only prosper financially but also become smarter
as a whole. If we put more money into things for better learning like we do for our leisure, I think it
would help our whole education system. I think it works with sensing because sensing learners tend to
like learning facts, intuitive learners often prefer discovering possibilities and what’s a better way to
learn facts other than reading a textbook?
7. Synthesis
As a learning tool the multimedia tool that helped me was podcasting. I am a visual learner but also
sometimes hearing it from some one I can learn as well. I was surprised that I was able to understand
and how to utilize podcasting and expand my preferred learning style.
I believe the Power Point worked best for me out of all the other multimedia technologies. I used Power
Point at least fives times this semester throughout all of my classes and I also have two finals that I have
a presentation using the power point. Knowing that I am a visual and active learner, I believe the power
point presentations were a key concept because they actually helped me interact with what I was
learning and presenting. Imagine in textbooks had no pictures, they would be even more boring than
they are with pictures, I am glad multimedia is at least involved with learning a little bit.
3. 8. Summarize
I will continue to use screen casting and podcasting in my daily life after this class. I can use this at
work for learning, being able to watch a screen cast pre recorded or live that will teach me the various
things that I will need to know for work. I would continue to use podcasting and screen casting and
further my knowledge on it an my be even start up my own pod or screen cast to help others that have
struggled like me at the beginning of the semester
As Richard Mayer said, “It is better to present information in words and pictures than in words alone”. I will
continue to use Power point presentations, probably for the rest of my life, until there is a better way to
present information with a multimedia concept. Also in textbooks, pictures will continue to help me
because I am studying into become a Kinesiologist which means a person who studies the body. I will
use diagrams of bodies and body parts to help further my education of my interest. As for non-learning of
course I will use multimedia for many things, including video games, watching tv, and just your normal
leisure multimedia ways.
