Such as, “The outline of steps for a survey study began with a discussion about the purpose, the identification of the population and sample, the survey instruments to be used, the relationship between the variables, the research questions, specific items on the survey, and steps to be taken in the analysis and the interpretation of the data from the survey” (Creswell, 2009). “In the design of an experiment, the researcher identifies participants in the study, the variables – the treatment conditions and the outcome variables – and the instruments used for pre-tests and post-tests and the materials to be used in the treatments” (Creswell, 2009). “Qualitative procedures demonstrate a different approach to scholarly inquiry than methods of quantitative research” (Creswell, 2009). “Qualitative inquiry employs different philosophical assumptions; strategies of inquiry; and methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation” (Creswell, 2009). “Characteristics of qualitative research, presented in no specific order of importance: natural setting, researcher as key instrument, multiple sources of data, inductive data analysis, participants’ meanings, emergent design, theoretical lens, interpretive, and holistic account” (Creswell, 2009). The characteristics alone help explain a little more in detail that different philosophical assumption being put forth in the study. “Qualitative research is interpretative research, with the inquirer typically involved in a sustained and intensive experience with participants” (Creswell, 2009). This shows how it is different than how participants are involved compared to a quantitative strategy. “Although the processes are similar, qualitative procedures rely on text and image data, have unique steps in data analysis, and draw on diverse strategies of inquiry” (Creswell, 2009). The emerging approaches to management in public organizations stems from the challenges created by the market dynamics, including globalization and advances in technology. Strategic planning for success has therefore assumed greater importance for managers of public institutions. The key elements of the strategic planning process depends to a large extend on the model one adopts (whether conventional, issues-based, alignment, inspirational etc.). The policy process involves constant deliberations, bargaining and negotiations by politicians and other interest groups (Moore, 1995; Van Horn, et al., 2001). Therefore critical elements in strategic planning for public organizations include stakeholders, resource alignment and more importantly how to deliver sustainable outcomes. Strategic planning is a set of managerial decisions that determine the long term survival of an institution according to Whaelen and Hunger (2005). It is critical to constantly monitor and elevate the external opportunities and threats taking into consideration the internal strengths and weaknesses. In this regard, stakeholder analysis is critical to the success of strategic planning for success because it provides the opportunity for the institution to respond adequately to their needs and allow for institutional relevance and achievement of strategic objectives. Resource alignment is also important as it allows for the effective deployment of resources to meet objectives. The strategic planning for Parliament of Ghana which I coordinate, takes into consideration all emerging issues into consideration in developing strategic initiatives particularly the issue stakeholder consultation because as an institution representing the people, the institutional relevance is determined by the ability to respond to the needs of citizens. Response with 2-3 sentences to each one below 1. Goals and Objectives are a vital part of your grant proposal. Goals are extensive statements with a long-term, ideal outcome in mind. Most proposals have no more than three goals (Community Toolbox, 2015). Objectives are detailed statements that will show the reviewer exactly how you plan to achieve your goals (Community Toolbox, 2015). SMART objectives are well written objectives. Specific - Tell how much of what is to be accomplished in a given time-frame. Measurable - Information concerning the objective can be gathered, identified, or acquired from records. Achievable - The objectives are not only possible, the organization more than likely will be able to make them happen. Relevant to the mission - The organization has a clear perception of how these objectives fit in with the vision and mission of the organization. Timed - A timeline has been developed by the organization by which the objectives will be completed. Challenging - The organization is stretched to set its aims on important changes that are essential to members of the community (Community Toolbox, 2015). A proposal was written for Lightsville Public Schools based on four focus areas developing specific activities based on each need, and creating measurable tools to evaluate whether or not students and parents are succeeding (Colorado Grants, 2015). Although most proposals have no more than three goals, this proposal had four. Each of the four goals relate directly to the four focus areas described above (Colorado Grants, 2015). The goals were well written and specific and the objectives coincided. The objectives were followed by the SMART format. There is no question as to what was to be accomplished. Goal 1: Students who participate in the programs at the learning center will improve their academic achievement. Goal 1 had two objectives and they both coincided with the goal. The Read to Succeed Project’s goal, in my opinion told what the goal was, but it did not grab my attention to where I wanted to read further. The goal states: “The goal of the Read to Succeed! Project is to enable at risk students and students with learning and reading disabilities to improve their reading skills to the point where they can succeed in school and develop the reading skills that will prepare them for high school and post-secondary education (Kurzweil Educational Systems , 2002).” I would have worded the goal to say: The goal of the Read to Succeed!
