This document evaluates the geotechnical characteristics of mixtures of red mud, lime, and soil. Red mud is a waste product from aluminum production that needs alternative uses. The study mixed red mud and lime additives with soil at different percentages. Tests found that adding 20% red mud and 3% lime to soil improved its maximum dry density to 1.811 g/cc and California Bearing Ratio to 22.81% at an optimum moisture content of 17.5%. Overall, the results indicate that red mud has properties making it suitable for use in geotechnical applications like road construction when mixed with soil and lime as a replacement for poorer soils.
