TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES DOORSTEP HEALTHCARE SCHEME
 The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin on August 5,
2021, launched the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’
(healthcare services at people’s doorstep) scheme in
Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
 The state government launched scheme aims at
eliminating the need for patients to visit hospitals for the
treatment of non-communicable diseases.
 After the launch of the scheme, Chief Minister MK Stalin
said that the healthcare scheme will be a pioneer for the
whole country. The details of the scheme were issued on
August 4 by the Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare
Department.

PARLIAMENT PASSES ESSENTIAL DEFENCE SERVICES BILL; WHAT ARE THE KEY DETAILS AND
WHO IT WILL IMPACT?
 The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, was passed by Rajya
Sabha on August 5, 2021. It was earlier passed in Lok Sabha on
August 3 amidst uproar and without any form of discussion.
 The latest bill seeks to replace the Ordinance promulgated in June
2020 and allows the Central Government to prohibit lockouts,
strikes and layoffs in the units engaged in the essential defence
services.
 The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, amends the Industrial
Disputes Act, 1947 to include the essential defence services under
the public utility services.
 The Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt in Lok Sabha on July
22, 2021, had introduced ‘The Essential Defence Services Bill,
2021’ which seeks to prohibit any form of agitation or strike by
anyone engaged in the essential defence services.

PARLIAMENT PASSES AIRPORTS ECONOMIC REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF
INDIA (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2021
 The Parliament on August 4, 2021 passed the
Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India
(Amendment) Bill, 2021 after the Rajya Sabha
approved it after a brief discussion amid
protests by the opposition on various issues.
 The Lok Sabha had passed the bill earlier on
July 29, 2021.
 The bill aims to amend the Airports Economic
Regulatory Authority (AERA) of India Act, 2008
and seeks to encourage smaller airports to
expand air connectivity to relatively remote and
far-flung areas

SJOERD MARIJNE STEPS DOWN AS CHIEF COACH OF INDIAN WOMEN’S
HOCKEY TEAM
 The Indian women's hockey team chief
coach Sjoerd Marijne stepped down from his
position on August 6, 2021. He revealed that
India's bronze medal match against Great Britain
at the Tokyo Olympics was his last assignment
with the Indian side.
 Sjoerd Marijne decided to step down after
coaching the Indian women's hockey team to its
best-ever performance in the Olympic Games,
guiding them to a commendable fourth-place
finish. The Indian women's hockey team
narrowly missed the bronze medal after a 3-4
loss against Great Britain earlier today.

COVID-19 VACCINE: JOHNSON & JOHNSON APPLIES FOR EUA OF ITS SINGLE-DOSE VACCINE IN INDIA
 The global healthcare major Johnson &
Johnson announced on August 6, 2021, that it has
applied for the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of
its single-dose Coronavirus vaccine in India.
 Earlier, the company had mentioned that it remained
committed to bringing its single-dose vaccine to India
and also looks forward to the ongoing discussions with
the Government of India.
 Johnson& Johnson in an official statement stated that
the company looks forward to concluding its
discussion with the Indian Government in order to
accelerate the availability of its single-dose vaccine to
help the pandemic.

DRONES NOT ALLOWED TO FLY WITHIN 25KM OF INTERNATIONAL BORDERS INCLUDING
LOC, LAC: CIVIL AVIATION MINISTRY
 As per Rule 37(2)(e) under UAS Rules, 2021, the usage of drones in
restricted areas is allowed only after the approval of the Central
Government, in exceptional
 The Union Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed on August 5, 2021 that no
Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) shall be allowed to fly within 25
kilometres from India's international border including the Line of Control
(LoC), Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Actual Ground Position Line
(AGPL).
 This was informed by Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh in a
reply to a question regarding regulation of drones in the Lok Sabha. He
said that Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Rules, 2021 have been
notified on March 12, 2021.
 He said that the rules cover the various aspects of the usage of drones
namely their ownership, registration, transfer, import and operation of
drone traffic management including payment of fees and penalties.

BRICS NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISORS MEETING TO BE HELD VIRTUALLY ON AUG 24: MEA
 The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on August 5, 2021,
informed that the next meeting of BRICS National Security
Advisors (NSA) will be held on August 24, 2021, in a virtual
format.
 MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi informed that India is the
current chair for BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, and China).
 The next BRICS Nation Security Advisors (NSAs) will be held later
this month on August 24 in a virtual format.
 Agenda of BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) 2021
 •The BRICS National Security Advisors (NSAs) deliberate on
security issues.
 •The agenda of the meeting on August 24 will be counter-
terrorism cooperation, and international peace and security. The
agenda is in line with India’s chosen priorities as the Chair of
BRICS meeting this year.

LOK SABHA PASSES TAXATION LAWS (AMENDMENT) BILL, TO WITHDRAW
RETROSPECTIVE TAX DEMAND PROVISION
 The Lok Sabha passed the Taxation Laws
(Amendment) Bill, 2021 on August 6, 2021. Union
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced
the Bill to amend the Income-Tax Act, 1961, and
the Finance Act, 2012 and withdraw retrospective
tax demand provision.
 The bill proposes to amend IT Act to provide that
"no tax demand shall be raised in future on basis
of said retrospective amendment for any indirect
transfer of Indian assets if transaction before 28th
May, 2012". The Finance Act 2012 had received the
assent of the President on May 28, 2012.

RAJIV GANDHI KHEL RATNA AWARD WILL NOW BE CALLED MAJOR DHYAN
CHAND KHEL RATNA AWARD: PRIME MINISTER MODI
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6, 2021,
announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will
be now known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna
Award.
 The highest sporting honour in the country which was
named after the former Prime Minister of India Rajiv
Gandhi has been rechristened in the honour of Hockey
wizard Dhyan Chand.
 PM Narendra Modi, while making the announcement,
said that he had been getting many requests from the
citizens all over the country to name the Khel Ratna
after Major Dhyan Chand.

worth fell $13.9 billion in a day.
 As per the Forbes Real-time Billionaires list,
Bernard Arnault, whose subsidiaries consist of
high-end fashion companies such as
Sephora, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, and
Moet & Chandon, held a net worth of $199.1
billion on August 5, 2021.

KERALA GOVT LAUNCHES COVID-19 DEATH INFORMATION PORTAL
 Kerala Government on August 5, 2021,
launched the COVID-19 death information
portal in the state to maintain and manage a
proper record of the number of deaths due to
coronavirus infection.
 Kerala Health Minister Veena George during
the launch of the portal noted that the State
government has launched the COVID-19 death
information portal will help in understanding
more details about the deaths due to COVID-
19.

RBI'S BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY REVIEW: RBI RETAINS REAL GDP
GROWTH AT 9.5% FOR FY 21-22, REPO RATE UNCHANGED AT 4%
 The CPI inflation is projected at 5.7 % during 2021-
22, which comprises 5.9% in Q2, 5.3% in Q3 and
5.8% in Q4 of 2021-22 with risks broadly balanced.
 The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 6, 2021
retained the real GDP growth forecast at 9.5
percent for the current financial year 2021-2022.
 The RBI has also kept the repo rate unchanged at 4
percent and reverse repo rate at 3.35 percent and
decided to continue to maintain its accommodative
stance.

KERALA ASSEMBLY PASSES RESOLUTION DEMANDING GOVERNMENT TO WITHDRAW
ELECTRICITY (AMENDMENT) BILL
 The Kerala Assembly on August 5, 2021, unanimously
passed a resolution demanding the Central Government to
withdraw the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
 K Krishnankutty, in the House, moved the resolution in the
Assembly which is proposed to be present in the Parliament.
 The State Electricity Minister, before moving the resolution in
the House, said that the Central Government failed to
discuss with the States the electricity amendment bill and
was unable to reach a consensus.
 As both the Central and State Governments have the right
to make laws in the matter of power distribution, the
Government must be committed to discuss the matter with
the States and reach a consensus.

PARLIAMENT PASSES BILL TO AMEND SCHEDULED TRIBES LIST RELATING TO ARUNACHAL PRADESH
 On the basis of the recommendation of Arunachal Pradesh, the
amendment bill provides for modifying Part-XV111 of the Schedule
of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, relating to the
State of Arunachal Pradesh.
 • The bill provides for the deletion of Abor Tribe from the list of
identified STs in Arunachal Pradesh. The Abor (tribe) in serial No.1
will be deleted, as it is the same as ‘Adi’ in serial No. 16.
 • The bill also proposes to replace ‘Tai Khamti’ instead of ‘Khampti’
at serial No. 6 of the list.
 • The amendment bill provides for the inclusion of ‘Mishmi-Kaman
(Miju Mishmi)’, ‘Idu (Mishmi)’ and ‘Taraon (Digaru Mishmi)’ in serial
8 in lieu of ‘Mishmi, Idu, Taroan’ in the list.
 • The bill will facilitate the inclusion of ‘Tangsa’, ‘Nocte’, ‘Tutsa’,
‘Wancho’ in lieu of ‘Any Naga Tribes’ in serial No. 10 of the list.

HIROSHIMA DAY 2021: 76 YEARS OF TWO ATOM BOMBS DROPPED ON HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI
 Hiroshima Day was observed on August 6 to mark the
anniversary of two atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki on this day. Today is the 76th year of destruction that
led to the surrender of Japan during World War II.
 Hiroshima day aims at raising awareness about the
devastating power of the two atom bombs that were dropped
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which led to the ending of the
Second World war.
 On August 6, 1945, an atom bomb was dropped on
Hiroshima in Japan by an American B-29 bomber killing nearly
80,000 people instantly while tens of thousands died later due
to the radiation exposure.
 Three days later, a second B-29 dropped an atom bomb on
Nagasaki killing another 40,000 people. These bombings, on
the two Japanese cities, were the first time that the atomic
bomb was used.

INDRA: INDIA-RUSSIA BEGINS 12TH EDITION OF JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE IN VOLGOGRAD
 India and Russia started the 12th edition of the Indo-Russia
Joint Military Exercise (INDRA) at Volgograd city in Russia on
August 4, 2021.
 As per the Indian Army, 250 personnel from the armies of
India and Russia will form part of the military exercise.
 The Indian Army contingent which will participate in the
upcoming military exercise will comprise a mechanized
infantry battalion. The contingent also underwent rigorous
training at different locations in India to refine their drills for
participation in the joint military exercise.
 Volgograd is a major city in Russia that is situated on the
Western Bank of the Volga River.

NEW HYDROGEN-PRODUCING METHOD SHOWS ENERGY-EFFICIENT ROUTE TO MANUFACTURE FUEL
 The Department of Science and Technology informed on August 4,
2021, that researchers in India have come up with an innovative
hydrogen manufacturing route that can increase its production
three times and lower the energy required. It can pave the way
towards environment-friendly hydrogen fuel at a lower cost.
 Hydrogen, as a fuel, has a critical role to play in driving the
paradigm shifts towards sustainable and green energy.
 In addition to having about three-fold higher calorific value in
comparison to the non-renewable energy sources such as gasoline
and coal, the combustion of hydrogen to release energy produces
water and thus, is completely non-polluting.

WRESTLER RAVI KUMAR DAHIYA WINS OLYMPIC SILVER, GOES DOWN IN HARD-FOUGHT FINAL
 Ravi Kumar wins silver! Indian wrestler Ravi
Kumar Dahiya settled for silver after losing a
hard-fought final against ROC's Zavur Uguev in
the Men's 57kg Gold medal match.
 The Indian wrestler gave it his all but could not
get better that Zavur Uguev, who is a two-time
world champion. Ravi Kumar lost the final bout
4-7.
 He has won the silver medal, which is India's
second silver medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020
after Mirabai Chanu's silver.

TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES DOORSTEP HEALTHCARE SCHEME  The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin on August 5, 2021, launched the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ (healthcare services at people’s doorstep) scheme in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.  The state government launched scheme aims at eliminating the need for patients to visit hospitals for the treatment of non-communicable diseases.  After the launch of the scheme, Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the healthcare scheme will be a pioneer for the whole country.   • 3. PARLIAMENT PASSES ESSENTIAL DEFENCE SERVICES BILL; WHAT ARE THE KEY DETAILS AND WHO IT WILL IMPACT?  The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, was passed by Rajya Sabha on August 5, 2021. It was earlier passed in Lok Sabha on August 3 amidst uproar and without any form of discussion.  The latest bill seeks to replace the Ordinance promulgated in June 2020 and allows the Central Government to prohibit lockouts, strikes and layoffs in the units engaged in the essential defence services.  The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, amends the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 to include the essential defence services under the public utility services.  The Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt in Lok Sabha on July 22, 2021, had introduced ‘The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021’ which seeks to prohibit any form of agitation or strike by anyone engaged in the essential defence services. www.indopraba.blogspot.com

PARLIAMENT PASSES AIRPORTS ECONOMIC REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF INDIA (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2021  The Parliament on August 4, 2021 passed the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 after the Rajya Sabha approved it after a brief discussion amid protests by the opposition on various issues.  The Lok Sabha had passed the bill earlier on July 29, 2021.  The bill aims to amend the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) of India Act, 2008 and seeks to encourage smaller airports to expand air connectivity to relatively remote and far-flung areas www.indopraba.blogspot.com

DRONES NOT ALLOWED TO FLY WITHIN 25KM OF INTERNATIONAL BORDERS INCLUDING LOC, LAC: CIVIL AVIATION MINISTRY  As per Rule 37(2)(e) under UAS Rules, 2021, the usage of drones in restricted areas is allowed only after the approval of the Central Government, in exceptional  The Union Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed on August 5, 2021 that no Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) shall be allowed to fly within 25 kilometres from India's international border including the Line of Control (LoC), Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL).  This was informed by Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh in a reply to a question regarding regulation of drones in the Lok Sabha. He said that Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Rules, 2021 have been notified on March 12, 2021.  He said that the rules cover the various aspects of the usage of drones namely their ownership, registration, transfer, import and operation of drone traffic management including payment of fees and penalties. www.indopraba.blogspot.com

  • 10. LOK SABHA PASSES TAXATION LAWS (AMENDMENT) BILL, TO WITHDRAW RETROSPECTIVE TAX DEMAND PROVISION  The Lok Sabha passed the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 on August 6, 2021. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Bill to amend the Income-Tax Act, 1961, and the Finance Act, 2012 and withdraw retrospective tax demand provision.  The bill proposes to amend IT Act to provide that "no tax demand shall be raised in future on basis of said retrospective amendment for any indirect transfer of Indian assets if transaction before 28th May, 2012". RBI'S BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY REVIEW: RBI RETAINS REAL GDP GROWTH AT 9.5% FOR FY 21-22, REPO RATE UNCHANGED AT 4%  The CPI inflation is projected at 5.7 % during 2021- 22, which comprises 5.9% in Q2, 5.3% in Q3 and 5.8% in Q4 of 2021-22 with risks broadly balanced.  The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 6, 2021 retained the real GDP growth forecast at 9.5 percent for the current financial year 2021-2022.  The RBI has also kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 percent and reverse repo rate at 3.35 percent and decided to continue to maintain its accommodative stance. www.indopraba.blogspot.com

PARLIAMENT PASSES BILL TO AMEND SCHEDULED TRIBES LIST RELATING TO ARUNACHAL PRADESH  On the basis of the recommendation of Arunachal Pradesh, the amendment bill provides for modifying Part-XV111 of the Schedule of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, relating to the State of Arunachal Pradesh.  • The bill provides for the deletion of Abor Tribe from the list of identified STs in Arunachal Pradesh. The Abor (tribe) in serial No.1 will be deleted, as it is the same as ‘Adi’ in serial No. 16.  • The bill also proposes to replace ‘Tai Khamti’ instead of ‘Khampti’ at serial No. 6 of the list.  • The amendment bill provides for the inclusion of ‘Mishmi-Kaman (Miju Mishmi)’, ‘Idu (Mishmi)’ and ‘Taraon (Digaru Mishmi)’ in serial 8 in lieu of ‘Mishmi, Idu, Taroan’ in the list.  • The bill will facilitate the inclusion of ‘Tangsa’, ‘Nocte’, ‘Tutsa’, ‘Wancho’ in lieu of ‘Any Naga Tribes’ in serial No. 10 of the list. www.indopraba.blogspot.com

HIROSHIMA DAY 2021: 76 YEARS OF TWO ATOM BOMBS DROPPED ON HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI  Hiroshima Day was observed on August 6 to mark the anniversary of two atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on this day. Today is the 76th year of destruction that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II.  Hiroshima day aims at raising awareness about the devastating power of the two atom bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which led to the ending of the Second World war.  On August 6, 1945, an atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in Japan by an American B-29 bomber killing nearly 80,000 people instantly while tens of thousands died later due to the radiation exposure.  Three days later, a second B-29 dropped an atom bomb on Nagasaki killing another 40,000 people. INDRA: INDIA-RUSSIA BEGINS 12TH EDITION OF JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE IN VOLGOGRAD  India and Russia started the 12th edition of the Indo-Russia Joint Military Exercise (INDRA) at Volgograd city in Russia on August 4, 2021.  As per the Indian Army, 250 personnel from the armies of India and Russia will form part of the military exercise.  The Indian Army contingent which will participate in the upcoming military exercise will comprise a mechanized infantry battalion.   • 20. WRESTLER RAVI KUMAR DAHIYA WINS OLYMPIC SILVER, GOES DOWN IN HARD-FOUGHT FINAL  Ravi Kumar wins silver! Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya settled for silver after losing a hard-fought final against ROC's Zavur Uguev in the Men's 57kg Gold medal match.  The Indian wrestler gave it his all but could not get better that Zavur Uguev, who is a two-time world champion.
