2. Weekend curfew in Delhi to continue, LG
rejects proposal to remove curfew; Private
offices can operate at 50%
 The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal rejected the
proposal by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to remove the
weekend curfew in the National Capital as the state sees a
dip in active COVID-19 cases.
 The LG, while rejecting the recommendation, urged Kejriwal
Government to maintain the status-quo till the COVID-19
situation improves.
 However, the Lieutenant Governor has approved the State
Government's proposal of allowing the private offices to
function at 50% capacity.

3. Daughters to inherit father’s self-acquired
property in absence of will or any other legal
heir: Supreme Court
 The Supreme Court of India, in a significant verdict, on January 20, 2022,
announced that the daughters of a male Hindu, dying intestate, will be
entitled to inherit the self-acquired as well as other properties obtained in
the partition by the father.
 In this case, the daughters will get preference over other collateral
members of the family.
 The latest Supreme Court judgement deals with the property rights of
Hindu women and widows under the Hindu Succession Act.
 The judgment came on an appeal against the Madras High Court Verdict.
 The Supreme Court bench was dealing with the legal issue concerning
the right of the daughter to inherit the self-acquired property of her
father, in the absence of any other legal heir.

4. Amar Jawan Jyoti merged with National War
Memorial flame
 Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at India Gate was merged with the
flame at the National War Memorial in a solemn ceremony on
January 21, 2022.
 The historic ceremony was presided over by the Integrated
Defence Staff chief Air Marshal Balabadhra Radha Krishna who
will be merging the two flames.
 The eternal flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti had been burning for 50
years, ever since it was built in 1972 to honour the Indian
soldiers who martyred in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
 The historic flame has been extinguished and a part of it was
merged with the National War Memorial flame.
