2. I have come to the stage where I have produced the first draft of my
music video. I wanted to gain audience feedback so I can generate
ideas on how to change/add to and finalise my music video so it results
in being a success.
3. For my audience feedback I created a survey on survey monkey to gain
general feedback on my first draft of my end product. The feedback
enabled the audience to give me some constructive criticism on how I
could improve my music video for the final product.
To begin with, I gained very positive comments on these areas-here are the
two most common comments:
‘’There was a great use of effects applied to the video post product.’’
‘’There was also a good connection between the music and visuals,
which made the music video easy to follow whilst promoting the
message of the song as well as the image of the band.’’
The main comment of improvement was:
Add the bands logo or name and song title.
found this feedback very useful as It highlighted features that I did not think
about myself which I feel would improve my final music video greatly-
making it more creative and consistent with the connection between the
music video and my ancillary products.
5. Although this feedback is valuable, I wanted to gain some expert feedback
on my draft music video. To do this I asked two people in my media class
and my media teacher to give their opinions on how I could improve my
music video. This was effective as they have the media knowledge which
can be specifically used to guide and suggest improvement in particular
areas of the video, whilst ensuring that the feedback given complies with the
task I am trying to complete. To gather my feedback they each viewed my
draft music video. They then filled in a sheet which gave them questions to
answer based on what they had watched. The questions included of what
they liked about the video; how they thought the video could be applied to
certain theorists and also how I could improve my work.
Here are some of the comments that were made:
Adding colour to the video so that It linked with the ancillary products better.
Add another grid effect to break up the repeated ending
6. Acting upon the feedback:
Taking on board the general feedback and the expert feedback, I decided to
change and add some parts of my music video.
This included of:
Adding another grid effect to the end of the music video to break up the
repetition of the chorus clips.
The addition of colour, featuring within both of the two grid effects applied-
one at the beginning of the video and on the new one added at the end.
I added the bands logo at the end of the video and applied this by lining it
up with the last grid shot and applying a fade so that it ends on the logo.
I ended the video on the shot of the band’s logo. I have also applied a
banner that has the bands name and song title appear to end the music
video. This I felt was a typical genre convention used as this is common with
music videos shown on music channels.
And I feel that by listening to the feedback and doing this, The music video is
beginning to represent a successful attempt at a professional video, which
fulfills my target audience's expectations through typical genre conventions
and features.
