4. MUSIC VIDEO STAGE 1
From the feedback I received from our rough cut, the
general conclusions were that some people thought
that it was too samey and repetitive. However within
my first draft I did use a lot of the same footage with
no varying close and mid-shots which is why I
decided to go out and take more footage in order to
make the shots vary within the product.
5. MAJOR
CRITICISM
The main criticism within my first
draft of my final production was that
the lighting was very poor. This was
due to the fact that the underpass I
used for filming had installed lights
which were constantly on, and
because we shot the footage within
the day, the daylight coming in from
the end took the attention away
from the five girls and made the
camera go in and out of focus. As
shown in the pictures here you can
see that the pictures are kind of
fuzzy.
6. IMPROVEMENTS MADE…
In order to improve this I decided to completely refilm and shoot
different footage, going down to the underpass at night. This
improved the look of the footage, the images were so much
more focused and it looks so much more professional. With the
end of the alley in darkness the lights within the tunnel were the
only light source it made the five figures so much clearer.
7. That’s exactly what I did, went
down to the underpass and
filmed a range of close-ups
and mid-shots; as well as this
footage of the girls using the
‘candid’ sort of theme. This
time I made sure that the
framing tighter as well as
making sure that the scenes
change in perfect timing with
the music; on the beat.
This really helped in order to
make the footage more
entertaining. A particular
comment that I received about
my first draft was that it was
‘quite predictable with just
constant dancing going on.’
This is when I decided to
change the footage and vary
the shot types and speeds of
filming.
The biggest problem I had
when editing and planning
my video was worrying
that the audience would
begin to get bored or
restless as the material
was required to be samey
as the theme being
‘dancing,’ it was hard to
make it more entertaining.
The only way to solve this
problem was to make
more diverse footage with
more close-ups grabbing
the audiences attention.
Varying between scenes
where only dancing takes
place, and where miming
takes place would also
help to make it more
entertaining and vary fro
scene to scene.
8. IMPROVEMENT EFFECTS
I believe that the criticisms on the ‘unentertaining’ and
‘unfocused’ footage has really helped me in order to improve
the professionalism of my product.
When changing it and placing it on the beat it showed me a
huge difference and it made the video look more professional, in
focus and more entertaining.
The range of close-up and miming shots really made the
difference within my video; helped provide variation which is
something it lacked, however made great improvements.
The miming also helped make the video personal to the band.
9. MUSIC VIDEO STAGE 2
After editing my rough cut that I posted, by pretty much restarting my production. I reposted the video on my YouTube account and also re-published it on Facebook. I realised after reading the comments there was still room for improvement on the video. Even though I thought that this
was the final cut and got extremely excited about it I thought that in order to Achieve a higher grade I could work on the positive criticism and fix the footage.
10. MISFITS
FACEBOOK
PAGE
I decided that in order to receive
feedback from the aged people
that my target audience is
revolved around that I would
create a personal Facebook
account for my band ‘Misfits.’ I
invited previous and personal
friends on mine from facebook to
like the page (these aged around
15-30) which I near enough in
the range of my target audience.
On this page I posted pictures of
us filming and published the
music video on there asking
people to comment and give me
criticism’s that I could improve
on.

2.
After fixing all the criticisms
which were pointed out I
finally came to my final
piece which I have come to
the conclusion, that when
compared to the rough cut
it has changed drastically
and looks exceptionally
professional.
You can see from these
comparison pictures that
the lighting is extremely
influential within this
change in professionalism.
The picture on the bottom
shows a more focused and
better lighted image; the
lighting really makes the
girls pop out against the
background.
13. MY DIGIPAK-STAGE 1
From the feedback I received from the first draft of my digipak really made me think about the
design of my entire digipak. I used Photoshop to produce the digipak, and the effects on there
really helped me to find continuous conventions within my products. After asking my focus group
as seen previously I decided to make some pages.
14. After editing:
Their was a first draft of my
digipak which after receiving
feedback shown previously I
decided to edit. On the original
draft on my blurb and my
physical CD design was
commented as being ‘bland’
and ‘boring’ containing just a
white background, so therefore
I decided to change it; whilst
doing this I thought I could
incorporate a similar feature
that I used on my website to
keep continuity flowing.
Here is the before and after
shots of my digipak blurb and
DC design. And it is clear to see
the improvements and the
effect it has on the overall view
of my production.
Before editing:
15. MAKING THE LOGO BOLDER
This is the logo that my focus group
decided to use for my girl bad; the MF
standing for misfits. I decided to
incorporate this within the blurb of my
digipak by replacing the ‘O’ in Expose. This
helped me to make sure there was
continuity within my products.
I used Microsoft word in order to make the
logo bolder within my design; I simply used
a bolder circle outline and then used a
different bolder text font. This made it stand
out a lot better against the design of my
digipak.
16. WEBSITE STAGE 1
Out of both the ancillary tasks this one presented me with the
fewest criticisms. I spent a lot of time working on this website
design, inserting different galleries, using different colour themes,
fonts, text sizes and designs.
Asking my focus group to comment on my website only brought
back many positive feedback comments. Some of the examples of
the positive and negative feedback are featured on the next slide.
18. THE 1 PIECE OF NEGATIVE
FEEDBACK
The piece of negative feedback that I got with the
website designs was that the front page was originally
very busy. The comments came from fellow Media
students and family members that fit my target
audience and were therefore valued; I then toned
down the amount going on within the front page of the
website.
On the next slide is the
examples of the original
and new design of my
website as well as the
ways in which I have made
it better. As you can see
the original page is
extremely busy which is
something I really needed
to edit.
After asking the focus
group again on their
opinions their wasn’t a
single criticism. Some of
the positive feedback
included:
‘Very professional’
‘Love the colour scheme’
‘Focused, professional and
exciting images’
‘Very well organised and
laid out perfectly.’
21. I decided to keep the initial
gallery at the top of the page
because of comments from
people saying the images
were exited and they liked the
design.
I decided to shorten the list of
the songs on the new album as
on the first draft all of them
were listed and people in my
focus group said that as it was
featured on a further
hyperlinked page it wasn’t
necessary to see all of them
initially.
I decided to add social media
links to the button at the bottom
in order to promote the band on
more than one media platform.
I shortened the text on the front page, this is what made it
look so busy , and very overwhelming for people reading it,
I distributed some of the text to other hyperlinked pages,
but most of it I completely cut out as I realised that it was
irrelevant and made the page boring.
I inserted some
individual pictures of all
five girls in order to get a
quick glimpse of them, I
used this as a way to
split up the remaining
text on the front page as
well.
I also added the front
cover and starting point
of my music video
production as well as
hyperlinking the video in
order to put attention
straight onto my final
product.
22. MY EVALUATION
Overall I think that what I have learnt from my audience feedback, is that their
opinion is important and that they are able to point out things which I may be
blind to as I am not able to see it from other perspectives. I have also learnt
that it is important to take into account the criticisms they give and make sure
to edit as many of them as I can in order to make all of my products to the best
of my ability and for my audience to enjoy to the best of theirs.
I have learnt that it is also important to do rough copies and designs in
order to allow myself time to change and alter certain aspects of it in
order to make it better.
