What is creel?
• Creel is a stand for holding the supply
packages in the form of wound packages.
• It enables to hold the package in proper
position for warping.
• A single type of creel cannot give best
efficiency for different types of yarn.
Purpose of creel
In warping, The yarns are wound onto the warper beam to have
1. desired width and containing require number of ends.
2. To form a sheet composed of parallel bands of yarn coming
from a package placed on creel.
• To give breakage self-stop signal indication,
• An automatic knotting of the new creel.
• The continuous improvement of the creel structure has
improved the warping speed, warping quality and
production efficiency
Function Components of Creel
Cone Spindle or Peg : Hold the package in the creel
Thread Guide : To guide the yarn in required way
Tensioners : Maintain uniform tension throughout the yarn
Yarn Cleaner : To remove various faults in yarn like slubs, neps etc
Blower : To remove dirt & dust from yarn
Breakage Indicator : Indicate breakage in yarn
Stop Device : To stop the machine when yarn is broken
Creel Panel Board : Display where yarn break is

V-creel
• This type of Creel is V-shaped.
• It consist of wooden pegs horizontally to hold the package.
• It diverges on both sides from its apex. This apex is in line with the
center of the machine.
• It is the most popular creel which is used for superspeed operations.
• Each column has package of capacity 540 ends.
• In V-creel open space is available. So that ends cannot touch or
entangle with each other and provides easy withdrawal of yarn from
supply package.
• Tensioners are not available in this creel but the tensioning is by means
of air drag.
Rectangular creel
• This type of creel is in the shape of rectangle.
• It is the most popular creel and with capacity available is 100-
600 and 1000 packages.
• It is used in slow speed warping machine.
• Frames are provided with pegs to hold package. In this yarn
can touch each other
• Frames can be increased to accommodate more number of
supply packages & vice versa.
• The disadvantage of this creel is that creeling takes 45
minutes.
• Efficiency of this creel is 50%.
Unrolling Creel
• This type of creel used for warping of elastic
yarns.
• Yarn tensioning can be obtained by using
positive thread feed.
• This creel have capacity of 800 up to 6200
ends.
Truck/ Trolley Creel
• It uses Trucks or Mobile package career
units.
• Reserve creel replaces exhausted creel. In
this way creeling time is saved.
• This method is expensive as many trucks are
required.
Automatcic creel
• It is used for modern warping machines as it is a
highly sophisticated creel.
• This creel is a basically a truck creel but provided
with automatic splice arrangement.
• As the thread is pushed forward, threading takes
place automatically.
• It have shortest creel change time
Swivel Frame Creel
• It acts as a variation to Truck creel
• The bobbins which are weighing 5 to 25 kg
cannot be pinned on trolleys.so double sided
bobbin holders are used.
• Pegs with full packages move from reserve
position to work position.
• This means the replacement of exhausted
package while machine is running
Continuous chain creel
• This type of creel is in the form of 2 arms and that forms an
acute angle.
• The yarn from the supply package holders carry an endless
chain which drives exhausted packages from outer walls to
inner.
• Reserved packages driven from creeling to running position
simultaneously
• Creel also have free space to accommodate storage of
packages
Magazine creel
• In this type of creel, the tail end of the yarn is tied up with the tip
of the yarn of another neighboring cone.
• In this way yarn in the first cone is completed, the transfer
second cone takes place automatically.
• The creeling time is completely eliminated, which helps
to improve running efficiency. As creel is continuous in working
as the yarn is shifted from active to reserve package.
• If the creel has 1000 package holders, then the warp sheet can
actually have 500 ends.
• When the same kinds of yarns to be processed, one has to go
with magazine creel.

Editor's Notes

  1. Air drag is like a frictional force. Moving in opposite direction. E.g moving hand faster harder it is smaller when moving it slowly
  2. Tension is basically when something is stretched, pulling force,
  3. Sophistcated (of a machine, system, or technique) developed to a high degree of complexity).
  4. Variation: replacement Turn the completed bobbins to another side to change new ones, easy operation Double sided so one side Is wound and one is creeled simaltaneously
