Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...
Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small
percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A
solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as "man's best friend." For
many years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have
proven themselves to be more than just an animal. Post–traumatic stress disorder dogs are far
beyond just man's best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end. First of all, what
exactly is PTSD? PTSD is an abbreviation for post–traumatic stress disorder. One website says that
the people that have this disorder developed it from being in a situation that was threatening or
terrifying ("Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"). This disorder does not only happen with veterans;
PTSD can develop in anyone who has been assaulted, involved in any kind of accident, abuse, tragic
loss of a close person, or hurricane victims. There are many symptoms that can be seen in people
who have this disorder; however, the symptoms can be different between adults and children. In a
different article by the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs they mentioned:
Although PTSD symptoms can begin right after a traumatic event, PTSD is not diagnosed unless the
symptoms last for at least one month, and either cause significant distress or interfere with work or
home life. In order to be diagnosed with PTSD,

Essay on Eliminating Abbreviations Errors in the Medical...
How can eliminating abbreviations reduce errors?
The use of abbreviations shortens length of many words thus really help healthcare professionals in
saving time spent in writing notes. Abbreviations however do not always provide positive
contributions due to misconceptions, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations leading to
commitment of errors in the practice. Similarities in abbreviations for instance could root to a grave
mistake. For instance the q.d. which an inscriber would like to indicate as every day could be
erroneously interpreted as q.i.d. which means four times a day. Such error could result to over
dosage when a certain medication is taken four times in a day instead of just once. Though some

Policies would need to provide lists of accepted abbreviations and their standard meaning. That
would be one of the best ways of preventing creation of abbreviations or assigning different
meaning on a certain standard abbreviation. Despite of universal standard policies on the use of
abbreviations, organizations would know better the strength and flaws of using abbreviations in
particular healthcare facility. Organizational policies should therefore be also developed which
would include the universal standard policies and organizational policies believed to maintain safety
practice. The policy should clearly specify the abbreviations that can be safely used and their
standard meanings in the organizations and those that should not be used providing the common
errors generated. The policy must also indicate the forms of written paper that allows using
abbreviations. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices for instance has provided lists of
abbreviations that should never be used to communicate medical information (ISMP, 2007). Policies
should also provide simple yet concise guidelines on the use of abbreviations. The methodologies of
quality control such as through periodic audit on proper usage of abbreviations should be also
specified. The persons authorized to use abbreviations should be also clearly specified. The policy
would need regular updating and should therefore clearly specify the dates. If necessary,
consequences of non–obedience to the policy

Medical Abbreviations
Why medical abbreviations should not be use in the medical field? Abbreviations can be used to
save time, space, and have become be available everywhere in prescriptions and medical records. It
help save times and space on the paper while writing on document such as prescription or medical
record, but it have also causes misinterpreted and involvement in harmful medication errors.
Therefore medical abbreviation should not be use when you are trying to communicate with medical
information. Giving the wrong prescription to a patients can be harmful and sometimes life
threatening. Another reason why medical abbreviation should not be use to communicate is there are
frequency a confusion and you can also put your medical practice at risk. The

Common Sense Abbreviations
The common sense approach to abbreviations should apply to PSI reports as well. Of course one can
abbreviate suffixes (Dr. Mr., etc.), words like rd. (road) st. (street) and ave. (avenue). Agency names
could be spelled out completely and followed in parenthesis, i.e. State Bureau of Investigation
(SBI). Beyond these, I see no reason to include abbreviations to the point that they are even a topic
of discussion. Probation officers are not really relaying a personal opinion in the PSI. They present
documented and measurable progress of the individual under supervision. The officer might have
assigned a rating for the offender based on their behavior during an interview, such as level of
remorse on a Likert scale. The recommendations

Difference between Text Messaging and Abbreviations
Social media sites such as Twitter only allow a limit of 140 character per tweet. This limits the
amount of words you can use in a tweet. This forces the users to get their ideas across in the shortest
way possible. For many, this results in the use of text talk. This is a type of shorthand and it creates a
whole new language consisting of abbreviations. LOL, BRB, SMH and TTYL are a few examples of
the abbreviations from this text talk language, theses terms are used every day amongst teens. These
text terms add more to a sentence and in text more then just a simple abbreviation for a word or
phrase. Abbreviations as short has three letters can add a whole new tone to what is said over a text
massage. LOL (laugh out loud) for example is used to add a joking or playful tone to a messages
"almost like a type of punctuation" and in some cases it replaces a punctuation. This abbreviation
doesn't always indicate literal laughter either. This is how text talk and normal abbreviations vary.
Text talk is surly changing the way we talk and communicate with people in our every day lives.
theses text short hand are becoming a language on its own. Now the question is how does this
writing form change the way we communicate with people. We no longer have to ride on horse back
for miles just to deliver a single letter. However, we now have cell phones and laptops, and with
these social media. Writing letters was once an semi social activity between two people. Writing

Gis : An Abbreviation For Geographic Information Systems...
Introduction GIS is an abbreviation for Geographic Information Systems. GIS is a perfect blend of
geography and technology. People can accumulate various forms of location data (both tangible and
intangible) and produce living, breathing maps. By utilizing the power of Geographic Information
Systems, users can create powerful applications. These applications can range in size from being
small (surveying a single farm) to large (displaying real time voting across the country in a
presidential election). The paper will begin with a literature review on the sources used for research
including conference papers, lectures, and trade magazines. Immediately following the literature
review, there will be the discussion which entails a thorough explanation of the fundamental
concepts that contribute to the foundation of Geographic Information Systems. After the explanation
of concepts, there will be a brief introduction regarding the company that pioneered the way for
GIS. This paper will then discuss the current trends and major industries that are utilizing GIS. In
the end, there will be a conclusion that will include a future analysis on GIS. Literature Review
Discussion Geographic Information Systems is a basic input/output mechanism. The user collects
geo location data such streets, buildings, or rivers and non–geo information including populations,
compensations, or other meta data. After careful research, the user can compile the data and enter it
into the system. With the

Url Is The Abbreviation Of Uniform Resource Locator
URL is the abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator. Some call it as Universal Resource Locator.
It is a web address. It refers to a web resource that specifies its location on a computer networking
and a mechanism for retrieving it (Wikipedia). It says that it is the means to access an indicated
resource.
The Oracle defined it as a pointer to a resource on the World Wide Web. It agrees that URL is a web
resource. Epperson (2015) defined that URL is the abbreviation for the string that creates the
reference to a resource. He too accepts that it is a reference to a resource.
The Webopedia defined it as the global address of documents and other resources on the World
Wide Web. According to Dictionary.com URL is a protocol for specifying address on the internet.
This too agrees that it is a web address. The Dictionary of cultural literacy (2015) defined it as a
formal address of a document on the internet. It goes deep and says that it is a formal address of a
document.
After examining various definitions and studying the features of URL, I am of the opinion that URL
could be defined that it is a web address/location that uses http or https protocol and enables user
access and retrieve information on the internet.
Importance of URL
URL plays a very vital role in web site and the domain name is an important part of URL. The
visitor enters URL on browser to get that web site and view the contents. Without it users won't be

Essay about Benefits of Medical Abbreviations
Benefits of Medical Abbreviations There are many benefits of medical abbreviations. One benefit of
medical abbreviations is how much easier it makes it to read a chart. This speeds up the process by
knowing the abbreviations and the use of them. It is nice to simplify things by using medical
abbreviations when it is a busy day. The other reason to use medical abbreviations is so that only the
medical personnel will know what is being described. It is a very efficient way of maintaining a
patient's privacy. Everybody does not need to know a patient's medical history or what is going on
with a patient or resident and allows their privacy to be protected.
Limitations of Medical Abbreviations There are often more than one meaning for an ... Show more

Text Message Abbreviations And Language Skills Essay

text messaging lingo, wouldn't it be great mate? From my perspective and hopefully yours as well,
the answer to that question would be a capitol no, with a sad face emote. The purpose of this study
was to determine if students who texted in excess of fifty times per day displayed below average
formal writing skills. PhD Nenagh Kemp from the School of Psychology located at the prestigious
University of Tasmania, authored this Australian paper in an attempt to answer if texting has any
correlation with writing and spelling: Text–message abbreviations and language skills in high school
and university students. Dr. Kemp predicts that after controlling for age and texting experience,
textism use would predict a small but potentially significant amount of variance in scores of reading,
spelling, and possibly also morphological awareness (Kemp, 2012). In contrast to my previous
article review, Dr. Kemp placed a higher emphasis on using defined parameters, yielding clear,
defined, and controlled data. Kemp stated, "The aim of this study was thus to investigate textism use
among high school and university students. Specifically, we examined the proportion of textisms,
the number of textism categories produced and the consistency with which textisms were spelled,
and whether any of these differed between written and texted messages. We also explored the nature

Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela...
Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela Cullington After reading Texting and
Writing, by Michaela Cullington, I do not agree with many of her viewpoints. Cullington argues that
texting does not affect a students writing. Textspeak, the abbreviation and shortening of words like
used when writing a text message, does affect the way a student writes because they use the
abbreviations, and their writings tend to lack punctuation. When a writer uses excessive
abbreviations on a regular basis they can get stuck in the writer's head causing them to use them in
all of their writings. Cullington did make good points of her own opinion on texting and writing in
her piece, but I disagree with her and believe that texting and ... Show more content on

Cullington recalled a few examples that teachers found while reading papers, "2" instead of "to,";
"gr8," instead of "great,"; "dat," in place of "that,"; "g2g," for "got to go,"; "hbu," instead of "how
about you,"; "cuz," to replace "because,"; and "wut," for "what,". Textspeak is a dangerous way to
write, and once a writer learns and gets used to writing that way, writing papers for school becomes
more and more difficult. A common acronym is 'LOL' which is an abbreviation for laugh out loud.
The abbreviated for LOL would not be acceptable for an academic paper. Our current generation
needs to pay more attention when writing, and to use correct spelling and not use acronyms to
shorten their written ideas. Writing College, Writing Life's article Learning the Language by Perri
Klass talks about how some professions require abbreviations, which is one of the few times it is
accecptable. Abbrevaitons can be helpful and an easy way to write a few words in just a few letters.
Teachers do not like abbreviations because the writer tends to assume the reader knows what each
acronym means, the paper should be and enjoyable read, not a confusing puzzle. While writing a
paper for school teachers do not approve of abbreviation and acronyms, the writer should just take
his or her time to write our each word correctly. Michaela Cullington believes that texting

PTSD is the abbreviation for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The general classification according to

considered some of the symptoms in PTSD today. Another name that people are familiar with came
about during World War I, and that was shellshock. This battle was fought with high air pressure
artillery that exploded when fired. The reason they called it this is because they thought that when
the soldier's had been exposed to the shells exploding it cause them to have a concussion from the
brain being rattled inside of the skull and that is what caused their behaviors and symptoms. Then
came World War II .A new name called "combat fatigue" or "combat exhaustion." The reason for
that is because after the first war they screened may people so the weaker ones would not pass and
would not be sent out to fight. Even though they did this the soldier's still came back with severe
behavior and mental issues and would be discharged from the service. It was not until after the
Korean War and the start of the Vietnam War that Psychiatrists started looking at the behaviors and
issues that surrounded them. The term PTSD did not show up until the 80's after the Vietnam War.

Abbreviations: A Case Study
The reason I chose to pick the following abbreviations as risky is that they can either mistaken with
another or with just a missed punctuation it completely changes the meaning. The first two I chose
are DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) and DNR (Do not resuscitate) for the biggest reason, if someone
has illegible handwriting the A and R could be misconstrued for each other, therefore leading to a
grave mistake. If the provider verbally expressed DNA and another person read it as DNR and did
not resuscitate the patient the patient would perish. The next two I elected are HS (Half strength)
and hs (at bedtime, hours of sleep) kind of for obvious reasons. Just the simple mistake of not
capitalizing or capitalizing alters it completely and the consequences could be deadly. ... Show more

The last two I looked at are AID (artificial insemination by donor) and AIDS (Acquired Immune

AID was even an abbreviation and just by leaving out the "S" could affect the way the patient is
treated. If the patient is pregnant by AID but provider reads it is AIDS they could potentially hurt the
baby and mother by giving a medication that should not be taken if pregnant or nursing. There are
several abbreviations out there and just with one mistake such as incorrect capitalization, missed

it is so critical to be aware specifically to detail because you never know if it could take someone's

The Pros And Cons Of Texting
Since the start of communication, engineers have been searching for ways to advance the way we
connect with one another– from the pictograph, to the landline telephone, even to our revolutionary
smartphones. However, one advancement that really made it's mark on our society and culture was
texting, which almost everyone from ages 10 to 50 has participated in at some point in their lives.
While texting is seen as a positive in younger people's eyes, the older generation often feels it's a
negative. John Humphrys, author of "I H8 Txt Msgs", in particular, has his own pronounced opinion
on texting, and is not a strong advocate for it. David Crystal, who has written many pieces on
texting, but specifically "2B or Not 2B?", on the contrary, believes that texting is not a bad thing,
and it actually impacts texters in a positive way. Of the two authors, David Crystal provides a much
more convincing argument through providing statistics and details, whereas John Humphrys uses his
personal opinions in an attempt to convince readers. Crystal's ability to conceptualize (or rationalize)
texters' motivations for abbreviating strengthens his argument by making him sound more
knowledgeable as a writer. To begin his argument, Crystal makes the excellent point that people
would not send texts that are unreadable, especially when texting is a service that is not free. It also
is not all the time that people will send text with "slanguage" (Crystal 1), since not all situations will

Texting And Its Effects On Society
Texting is causing Illiteracy in society Did you know the human race became illiterate the moment
they started communicating by causing bad spellers, poor word structure and critical thinking and
comprehension level? Illiteracy is the lack of ability to read and write. In 3200 BC the Egyptian
Hieroglyphics was the longest communication towards one another. As time went on writing became
shorter than earlier years, causing the hieroglyphics to be less effective. The human race is
constantly evolving around new ways to communicate faster and shorter. Although texting is
causing illiteracy in society it is conveniently to society. Social Media such as texting is the next
evolutionary step to making the human race more illiterate. Some teachers and instructors believe its
better for students to abbreviate text then not. The reason behind this is they believe students have to
be smart to know how to abbreviate their words. The students develop an understanding of word
basics and word structure. Teachers and instructors claim students who don't abbreviate text have a
harder time putting words together. Other people thinks texting isn't causing illiteracy in society
because they feel if you abbreviate your words you should still be able to remember how to spell out
the words. Some just feels that texting with abbreviated words is better than spelling out the whole
word because it takes less time. Society just feel texting isn't what's causing illiteracy. The reason

Texting Is It Destroying Our English Language
Texting is the communication of evolution, is it destroying our english language? According to
Crystal there should be texting he finds it helpful in a way. "2B or not 2B", Crystal states how
texting is not a disaster "texting has added a new dimension to language use... its long–term impact
is negligible. It is not a disaster" (Crystal,2008). People are worried that texting isn't good for our
literacy skills in this generation and so forth. We want to think that the youngsters came up with
misplacing of abbreviations. This isn't true Crystal points out in his research "Eric Partridge
published his Dictionary of Abbreviations in 1942... English has had abbreviated words ever since it
began to be written down" (Crystal,2008). The idea of our english language becoming a disaster isn't
true, abbreviations has been around since history.Texting is something done in an everyday life.
Texting has become so common that everyone 's mind has adjusted to the misplacement of
abbreviation this doesn't mean everyone does it when they do their school work or when they 're on
there job. Being one of those people use misplacement of abbreviations when texting, hasn't
completely ruined my common sense of reading and writing the proper grammar to be successful or
to be labeled well educated. If misplacement of abbreviations when texting means you 're not

Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA
At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret
conventions as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley's essay "Why is it
the CIA but not *the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions" explores the
conventions of how acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition,
Harley identifies patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically,
embedded within the title is a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and
initialisms are treated as proper nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley's methodology primarily
uses a corpus compromised of about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used
elicitation for more gray area cases of abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. Initially, I
reasoned that CIA is performed with the determiner "the", in a definite description structure, since it
is initialized, while in contrast, NASA is an acronym. Furthermore, I noted that this difference may
stem from the fact that an acronym forms an abbreviation that is pronounced ... Show more content

with a definite description to a proper noun. Harley notes that this "tendency is so prevalent that it

exceptions for initialisms include "bare location nominals" (377), which is beyond this course but

women when it came to how often they suffered from hangovers in terms.

Hox Gene Abbreviation
The study of observing Hox gene expression was undertaken because of the confusion of their
function. At the time Hox genes were known to pattern the embryo in an anterior to posterior
fashion. They also knew loss–of–function or gain–of–function mutations caused major
developmental changes, but it was hard to distinguish the specific type of mutation (ex. anterior or
posterior homeotic transformations). It was also thought at the time that Hox genes played a role in
global patterning, for comparative studies showed the boundaries of these genes changed the class
of vertebrae. The problem was that mutations only made minor skeletal changes, which contradicted
their thoughts about global patterning. To answer their thoughts about Hox genes, Hox10 and Hox11
were experimented with. The findings of the study were that Hox genes actually are involved with
global patterning of axial skeletons of mammals (Wellick and Capecchi, 2003). To answer the
question of whether the Hox genes globally pattern vertebrates, the scientists looked at loss of
function mutants of Hox10 and Hox11. This method was created by the researchers because in mice,

the same time suppressing Hox10 so no lumbar vertebrae were made. These interactions allow the
correct development of the mouse and ultimately pattern the mouse. I also believe they can be
confident with their finding of limbs not being affected by Hox genes. Even though the Hox genes
were mutated, the limbs always formed on the same vertebrae. There is not much else one can do to
prove that the limbs aren't associated with the Hox

Medication Error And Medication Errors
Medication error Medication error is one of the biggest problems in the healthcare field. Patients are
dying due to wrong drug or dosage. Medication error is any preventable incident that leads to
inappropriate medication use or harms the patient while the medication is in the control of the health
care professional,or patient (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2015). It is estimated about 44,000
inpatients die each year in the United States due to medication errors which were indeed preventable
(Mahmood, Chaudhury, Gaumont & Rust, 2012). There are many factors that contribute to
medication error. However, the most common that factors are human factors, right patient
information, miscommunication of abbreviations, wrong dosage. Healthcare providers do not intend
to make medication errors, but they happen anyways. Therefore, nursing should play a tremendous
role to reduce medication error The reality is that human's make mistakes. Caregiver's fatigue and
stress plays a huge role in medication error. It is reported that fatigue and stress increased the risk of
medication error. In a study comparing nurses who worked a 12 hour shift in different age groups,
older nurse's experienced sleeping trouble and were not able to focus on maintaining their
performances during their shift (the average age of US registered nurses is 46.8). Fatigue is related
to misreading labels, because somehow one is not fully conscious, a nurse who worked a 16 hour
shift went into the medication

Value of Commodity and the Terms of Trade – The prices you get for your exports differing with the

affected the value of the Australian dollar over its past. Australia to a great extend is exporting

Dangerous Abbreviations Research Paper
In the article Dangerous abbreviations: "U" can make a difference! I learned about dangerous
abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols. Many medical errors occur with confirmation bias. During
drug administering, errors are made by 10 folds because of a lack or over use of a zero before/after a
decimal. Keeping in mind, that these errors often occur, can help us prevent a death. One type of
error that commonly happens is known as confirmation bias. Confirmation bias happens when
someone is expecting to see confirmation of their expectation. This can easily be prevented if we
read, write, and transcribe medical orders with an open mind and pay meticulous attention to other
ways of transcribing the prescription. Sometimes it is better to write out

Abbreviations Should Provide Gym Memberships To Minors
Gymnasiums should provide memberships to minors because a gym membership can help with
physical activity that can end obesity, assist students with learning disabilities, and help with mental
health issues. This is a good thing because minors can fight against obesity and the right to walk
around freely without being laughed at. Physical training which is available in a gymnasium can
help to end obesity, and it can end bullying for those who are picked on because of how much they
weigh and how they look. According to "American Medical Association suggested that maybe in
severe cases, where the child's health is at immediate risk, states may need to use laws that govern
child abuse and, as a last resort, remove children to foster care" (conan). ... Show more content on

Summary and Response of "2b or Not 2b" Essay
Zhang 1 Hao Zhang Professor Warmbold English 120, Section 06 24 March 2013 In the article "2b
or not 2b", David Crystal begins with discussing how others such as John Humphry argued that
texters are "vandals who are doing to our language what Genghis Khan did to his neighbors 800
years ago. They are destroying it" (335). This is also the common belief of most people. People
often argue about the bad points of technology over our language. However, Crystal believes that
texting can improve children's ability to read and write rather than hinder their literacy as many
people claim. He also argues that not all texting are done in abbreviated words. Complex messages
and institutional messages are often texted in standard form of ... Show more content on

And then we can play with abbreviated forms. I think this is the same thing as learning to run. A
baby first need to learn to walk, and then he can run. We cannot reverse the order of these two
things. So, actually texting has no effect to improve children's literacy, it is just because children
have the ability to play with abbreviated forms. Children's literacy comes from their parents, their
teachers rather than texting messages. Personally, I often abbreviate my words when I send
messages. I type u for you, cos for because, 2moro for tomorrow, gdnite for goodnight, etc. I don't
think these will affect my sensitivity to standard English because I just use abbreviations for typing
faster. The invention of SMS itself is for people to contact more convenient. By using abbreviations,
I can save time and energy, which is adapted to the fast–paced life in New York City. In the article,
Crystal states that, "English has had abbreviated words ever since it began to be written down"
(339). Some abbreviations have become their own words over the years. First, I feel worried about
that. As one of my classmate said, " As a foreign speaker of language, it is already hard to grasp the
language as it is right now, but if it were to transform into an abbreviated form, it would take double

Medical Abbreviations
Introduction
The competency project consisted of case studies. In these case studies you also had a list of terms.
The terms were to be analyzed by dividing them into three component parts. Most medical terms are
made up of three things. The prefix, root and suffix. There are some medical terms that do not have
all three components. Each term was to be broken down and then defined. Also you were to build
one new medical term from the terms that were on that specific case study. And the last thing you
had to do was define the abbreviation for each case study which had two.
A. Most medical terms are made up of a prefix, root and a suffix. Prefix is the beginning of the term.

It is very important in the medical field to know both written and oral communication with patients
and other healthcare professionals. Good communication skills doesn't mean just talking it also
means to listen. Verbal communication is applicable to a wide range of situations, ranging from
informal office discussions to public speeches made to thousands of people. Oral communications is
really important when talking with patients. They need to understand what you are telling them, they
need to know what is going on. It will help you to know why the patients are in the hospital. Also
how and for what they are being treated. Knowing written skills is also very important. You will
need to be able to communicate with other professionals in your fields. If you maybe can't talk to
them face to face writing down the information that you need them to understand is very important.

How Texting Has Brought Upon The Modern English Language
David Crystal 's news article, "2b or Not 2b", address issues in direct contradiction to John
Humphrys article " I h8t txt msgs: How texting is wrecking our language", which sought to bring to
focus the havoc that texting has brought upon the modern English language. Pointing out that, while
texting has been a change largely impactful on the English language it poses no threat and should
not be considered as such. Using examples throughout history to prove that abbreviations in word
and language is something that has been used for centuries. Furthermore, Crystal explains that such
play on words provides a mental challenge, something that people must be adequately equipped
with the proper literary knowledge in order to regurgitate. This can ... Show more content on

Although there is much criticism directed towards millennials and younger generations when it
comes to texting, Crystals makes it clear that text–like abbreviations have been used in English for
centuries. Acronyms such as LOL, LOML, BRB (laugh out loud, love of my life, be right back) can
be dated back to 1618 at the introduction of the term IOU in place of "I owe you". The history of
abbreviations can be dated back to Anglo– Saxon tribes. Humphrys argument poses that texting
poses a threat to literacy in our society, Crystal refutes this by giving examples of how word
alterations and abbreviations similar to that of texting have been used for centuries by those with an
adequate understanding of language for sake of brevity and creativity. In addition, Eric Partridge
published a Dictionary of Abbreviations in 1942. Containing many text–like examples, such as agn
"again", mth "mouth", and gd "good". Symbols and number in writing have been used for a long
while as well. There are called rebuses and they have been used since the middle centuries to create
puzzles, surnames, or conventional representation. Not only is the use of these abbreviations that we
see in texting something as old as the English language itself, the criticism associated with is is also
something that is as equally ancient. Crystal (2008) explains:
"English has had abbreviated words ever since it began to be written down. Words such as exam,

talks about a team going to find the source of the outbreak using the chickens blood and testing for
how long and which chickens are infected, the team will use the embryo of the chicken egg to see
which eggs are infected. An to contact buyers to dispose of the infected chicken to not be used for

reading when the writer is introducing a new abbreviation it will be put into parenthesis net to the
word to let the reader know what the abbreviation means. The writer of the document must know
that the reader has knowledge of what the codes and regulations must mean because they are not
defined in the memorandum. The primary audience of this text is the Inspection and Compliance
Management Team (ICMT) investigating how they will do their job to find the source of the
outbreak among the chickens. There are two secondary audiences one is of the suppliers of the
chickens and their eggs, and how which chickens from which flock are infected. The second

This is rather contradictory given the fact that Kerala produces a major proportion of graduate and
diploma nurses every year and most of the institutions that provide nursing programs fare quite
decently with regard to quality of education and training facilities.
The study is aimed at understanding the different roles and responsibilities nursing personnel carry
out in a district health service system in the context of Kerala. This will help to draw inferences
upon what the nurses are expected to do legally and what they actually do. These observations shall
form the base upon which suggestions regarding the rationalization of the professional practice can
be made. With the education and training nurses receive it would be highly beneficial for the health
system if their expertise is rightly tapped within the system.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Nurses if optimally utilized in the health care system can have a great impact in the health outcomes
of the population as well as on a larger note in bringing down the cost of health care in a system.
However nursing remains a largely unexplored area when it comes to its actual utilization in India.
The scenario remains largely the same, perhaps marginally better when it comes to the public health
care sector in Kerala. There is a dire need to focus more on the comprehensive utilization of

Medical Abbreviations: A Career In The Medical Field
In any medical record, it is normal to have a lot of abbreviations to support the diagnosis or reasons
behind them. In my own opinion, they are used to save time and space while writing the patients'
medical record, which is why taking medical terminology for any career in the medical field is
important. Medical abbreviations have many benefits and limitations, and the limitations definitely
over rule the benefits. The benefits for using the abbreviations are the saving of time and space
when recording data or information, like I said before in my opinion. Another benefit for medical
abbreviations is that only the medical personnel will know what is being described. It is an efficient
way to keep a patients' privacy. However, there are many

Communication Effects Of Communication
Year after year, things change, people change, and technology gradually develops. Tweeting, texting,
and other forms of abbreviated communication has come across us, making it more facile for us to
communicate in the cyber world. Many of us question whether it affects our day to day lives,
possibly transmuting the way we verbalize or our English language. The essay "Texting" by David
Crystal describes the phenomenon of texting and how it has come to be (241). Similarly, Kris
Axtman verbalizes about how the forms of abbreviated communication and slang affects us in his
essay, "'r u online?': The Evolving Lexicon of Wired Teens" (247). As a teenager, I absorb the
contemporary trends taking place in today's society, this includes abbreviated communication. There
is a clear distinction between how I text and how I communicate in person, with live speech. I utilize
abbreviated communication when I text my friends and in the cyber world with others. It is a way
for me to communicate expeditiously as I don't have to type out the whole word, and my friends are
still able to understand what I'm saying. However, utilizing abbreviated communication does not
make an impact on how we speak with others when using live speech; because there are many
factors that go into what is appropriate in society today.
Tweeting, texting, and online communication over the past years have transmuted as we now
abbreviate when we communicate. "Multi–word sentences and response sequences can be used,

Medical Acronyms
In the English language, acronyms have begun to take on the same role as their common word
counterparts. Although they may initially be created to serve a purpose to a military or government,
they have been adapted to fit into everyday language. Whether it be medical professionals, avid
sports fans, or members of a certain generation, acronyms greatly contribute to group specific
jargon.
In militaries, efficiency is highly valued. To prevent from having to repeat obscenely long phrases,
militaries frequently employ the use of acronyms. Due to this, many acronyms originate from the
military and trickle their way into the common language. For example, the acronym, ASAP ("as
soon as possible") was first used by military forces to express urgent ... Show more content on

In the medical field, many procedures or conditions have acronyms that represent them. This allows
those in the medical community to trim down long medical terms and associate them with shorter
words that are much easier to remember. When used between those in the healthcare field, these
words do not pose a threat to the transferring of ideas, as both parties understand these words'
meanings. However, if one party is an outsider of the medical field, the use of such acronyms could
be detrimental to the communication between the two. Because of this, many doctors avoid using
medical acronyms when conversing with a patient about matters of his or her health.
Among certain groups with common interests, acronyms have evolved to be used as jargon. The use
of such jargon often provides its users with a sense of belonging within a social circle. For example,
sometimes middle–aged people may try to use initialisms that are popular with the younger
generation in an attempt to "fit in" and rekindle the flame of their former youth. Interestingly, when
such attempts are done incorrectly, it can often have the opposite effect and alienate the person from
said group. This alienation occurs because the person is perceived to be desperate and believed to
not share common

Rhetorical Strategies Of John Humhryss
Rough Draft
How does Humphry's use rhetorical strategies to persuade his readers?
Introduction
John Humphrys is very irritated that the writing he knows is been spoiled by people who are using
slag and abbreviations when communicating. He believes that writing has been wrecked in a huge
manner as all that he though was right is now not considered in writing. He is also afraid that even
in some areas where he thought that writing should be official and all the rules followed, a lot of the
texting slag is used. As he states, people use the abbreviations to take care of time and use the
shortest time possible to communicate. But instead this is not true since there are a big percentage of
people who take time to understand the meaning of the abbreviations but some even fail to
understand the meaning or misinterpret them after they have wasted a lot of time. Therefore
Humphrys is determined to convincing people that texting has affected the proper way of writing.
John Humphrys used the different strategies of rhetorical persuasion to persuade his audience and
make it believe that what he is arguing about is true.
Ethos This is an appeal dealing with ethics, (Charland et al, 2017). It is a way in which a person is
convinced of the credibility or the character of the persuader. John Humphrys uses ethos to convince
his audience by expressing how he is credible and how he is well informed on the subject matter. He
convinces the author that he has vast knowledge on writing and

Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...

  • 1. Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder... Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as "man's best friend." For many years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have proven themselves to be more than just an animal. Post–traumatic stress disorder dogs are far beyond just man's best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end. First of all, what exactly is PTSD? PTSD is an abbreviation for post–traumatic stress disorder. One website says that the people that have this disorder developed it from being in a situation that was threatening or terrifying ("Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"). This disorder does not only happen with veterans; PTSD can develop in anyone who has been assaulted, involved in any kind of accident, abuse, tragic loss of a close person, or hurricane victims. There are many symptoms that can be seen in people who have this disorder; however, the symptoms can be different between adults and children. In a different article by the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs they mentioned: Although PTSD symptoms can begin right after a traumatic event, PTSD is not diagnosed unless the symptoms last for at least one month, and either cause significant distress or interfere with work or home life. In order to be diagnosed with PTSD, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Essay on Eliminating Abbreviations Errors in the Medical... How can eliminating abbreviations reduce errors? The use of abbreviations shortens length of many words thus really help healthcare professionals in saving time spent in writing notes. Abbreviations however do not always provide positive contributions due to misconceptions, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations leading to commitment of errors in the practice. Similarities in abbreviations for instance could root to a grave mistake. For instance the q.d. which an inscriber would like to indicate as every day could be erroneously interpreted as q.i.d. which means four times a day. Such error could result to over dosage when a certain medication is taken four times in a day instead of just once. Though some abbreviations can be easily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Policies would need to provide lists of accepted abbreviations and their standard meaning. That would be one of the best ways of preventing creation of abbreviations or assigning different meaning on a certain standard abbreviation. Despite of universal standard policies on the use of abbreviations, organizations would know better the strength and flaws of using abbreviations in particular healthcare facility. Organizational policies should therefore be also developed which would include the universal standard policies and organizational policies believed to maintain safety practice. The policy should clearly specify the abbreviations that can be safely used and their standard meanings in the organizations and those that should not be used providing the common errors generated. The policy must also indicate the forms of written paper that allows using abbreviations. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices for instance has provided lists of abbreviations that should never be used to communicate medical information (ISMP, 2007). Policies should also provide simple yet concise guidelines on the use of abbreviations. The methodologies of quality control such as through periodic audit on proper usage of abbreviations should be also specified. The persons authorized to use abbreviations should be also clearly specified. The policy would need regular updating and should therefore clearly specify the dates. If necessary, consequences of non–obedience to the policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Common Sense Abbreviations The common sense approach to abbreviations should apply to PSI reports as well. Of course one can abbreviate suffixes (Dr. Mr., etc.), words like rd. (road) st. (street) and ave. (avenue). Agency names could be spelled out completely and followed in parenthesis, i.e. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Beyond these, I see no reason to include abbreviations to the point that they are even a topic of discussion. Probation officers are not really relaying a personal opinion in the PSI. They present documented and measurable progress of the individual under supervision. The officer might have assigned a rating for the offender based on their behavior during an interview, such as level of remorse on a Likert scale. The recommendations ... • 5. Difference between Text Messaging and Abbreviations Social media sites such as Twitter only allow a limit of 140 character per tweet. This limits the amount of words you can use in a tweet. This forces the users to get their ideas across in the shortest way possible. For many, this results in the use of text talk. This is a type of shorthand and it creates a whole new language consisting of abbreviations. LOL, BRB, SMH and TTYL are a few examples of the abbreviations from this text talk language, theses terms are used every day amongst teens. These text terms add more to a sentence and in text more then just a simple abbreviation for a word or phrase. Abbreviations as short has three letters can add a whole new tone to what is said over a text massage. LOL (laugh out loud) for example is used to add a joking or playful tone to a messages "almost like a type of punctuation" and in some cases it replaces a punctuation. This abbreviation doesn't always indicate literal laughter either. This is how text talk and normal abbreviations vary. Text talk is surly changing the way we talk and communicate with people in our every day lives. theses text short hand are becoming a language on its own. Now the question is how does this writing form change the way we communicate with people. We no longer have to ride on horse back for miles just to deliver a single letter. However, we now have cell phones and laptops, and with these social media. Writing letters was once an semi social activity between two people. Writing letters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gis : An Abbreviation For Geographic Information Systems... Introduction GIS is an abbreviation for Geographic Information Systems. GIS is a perfect blend of geography and technology. People can accumulate various forms of location data (both tangible and intangible) and produce living, breathing maps. By utilizing the power of Geographic Information Systems, users can create powerful applications. These applications can range in size from being small (surveying a single farm) to large (displaying real time voting across the country in a presidential election). The paper will begin with a literature review on the sources used for research including conference papers, lectures, and trade magazines. Immediately following the literature review, there will be the discussion which entails a thorough explanation of the fundamental concepts that contribute to the foundation of Geographic Information Systems. After the explanation of concepts, there will be a brief introduction regarding the company that pioneered the way for GIS. This paper will then discuss the current trends and major industries that are utilizing GIS. In the end, there will be a conclusion that will include a future analysis on GIS. • 7. Url Is The Abbreviation Of Uniform Resource Locator URL is the abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator. Some call it as Universal Resource Locator. It is a web address. It refers to a web resource that specifies its location on a computer networking and a mechanism for retrieving it (Wikipedia). It says that it is the means to access an indicated resource. The Oracle defined it as a pointer to a resource on the World Wide Web. It agrees that URL is a web resource. Epperson (2015) defined that URL is the abbreviation for the string that creates the reference to a resource. He too accepts that it is a reference to a resource. The Webopedia defined it as the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. According to Dictionary.com URL is a protocol for specifying address on the internet. This too agrees that it is a web address. The Dictionary of cultural literacy (2015) defined it as a formal address of a document on the internet. It goes deep and says that it is a formal address of a document. After examining various definitions and studying the features of URL, I am of the opinion that URL could be defined that it is a web address/location that uses http or https protocol and enables user access and retrieve information on the internet. Importance of URL URL plays a very vital role in web site and the domain name is an important part of URL. The visitor enters URL on browser to get that web site and view the contents. • 8. Essay about Benefits of Medical Abbreviations Benefits of Medical Abbreviations There are many benefits of medical abbreviations. One benefit of medical abbreviations is how much easier it makes it to read a chart. This speeds up the process by knowing the abbreviations and the use of them. It is nice to simplify things by using medical abbreviations when it is a busy day. The other reason to use medical abbreviations is so that only the medical personnel will know what is being described. It is a very efficient way of maintaining a patient's privacy. Everybody does not need to know a patient's medical history or what is going on with a patient or resident and allows their privacy to be protected. Translation: If one were to compose their papers in text messaging lingo, wouldn't it be great mate? From my perspective and hopefully yours as well, the answer to that question would be a capitol no, with a sad face emote. The purpose of this study was to determine if students who texted in excess of fifty times per day displayed below average formal writing skills. PhD Nenagh Kemp from the School of Psychology located at the prestigious University of Tasmania, authored this Australian paper in an attempt to answer if texting has any correlation with writing and spelling: Text–message abbreviations and language skills in high school and university students. Dr. Kemp predicts that after controlling for age and texting experience, textism use would predict a small but potentially significant amount of variance in scores of reading, spelling, and possibly also morphological awareness (Kemp, 2012). In contrast to my previous article review, Dr. Kemp placed a higher emphasis on using defined parameters, yielding clear, defined, and controlled data. Kemp stated, "The aim of this study was thus to investigate textism use among high school and university students. Specifically, we examined the proportion of textisms, the number of textism categories produced and the consistency with which textisms were spelled, and whether any of these differed between written and texted messages. Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela Cullington After reading Texting and Writing, by Michaela Cullington, I do not agree with many of her viewpoints. Cullington argues that texting does not affect a students writing. Textspeak, the abbreviation and shortening of words like used when writing a text message, does affect the way a student writes because they use the abbreviations, and their writings tend to lack punctuation. When a writer uses excessive abbreviations on a regular basis they can get stuck in the writer's head causing them to use them in all of their writings. Textspeak is a dangerous way to write, and once a writer learns and gets used to writing that way, writing papers for school becomes more and more difficult. A common acronym is 'LOL' which is an abbreviation for laugh out loud. The abbreviated for LOL would not be acceptable for an academic paper. Our current generation needs to pay more attention when writing, and to use correct spelling and not use acronyms to shorten their written ideas. Writing College, Writing Life's article Learning the Language by Perri Klass talks about how some professions require abbreviations, which is one of the few times it is accecptable. Abbrevaitons can be helpful and an easy way to write a few words in just a few letters. Teachers do not like abbreviations because the writer tends to assume the reader knows what each acronym means, the paper should be and enjoyable read, not a confusing puzzle. Abbreviations: A Case Study The reason I chose to pick the following abbreviations as risky is that they can either mistaken with another or with just a missed punctuation it completely changes the meaning. The first two I chose are DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) and DNR (Do not resuscitate) for the biggest reason, if someone has illegible handwriting the A and R could be misconstrued for each other, therefore leading to a grave mistake. If the provider verbally expressed DNA and another person read it as DNR and did not resuscitate the patient the patient would perish. The next two I elected are HS (Half strength) and hs (at bedtime, hours of sleep) kind of for obvious reasons. Just the simple mistake of not capitalizing or capitalizing alters it completely and the consequences could be deadly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the patient is pregnant by AID but provider reads it is AIDS they could potentially hurt the baby and mother by giving a medication that should not be taken if pregnant or nursing. • 15. The Pros And Cons Of Texting Since the start of communication, engineers have been searching for ways to advance the way we connect with one another– from the pictograph, to the landline telephone, even to our revolutionary smartphones. However, one advancement that really made it's mark on our society and culture was texting, which almost everyone from ages 10 to 50 has participated in at some point in their lives. While texting is seen as a positive in younger people's eyes, the older generation often feels it's a negative. John Humphrys, author of "I H8 Txt Msgs", in particular, has his own pronounced opinion on texting, and is not a strong advocate for it. David Crystal, who has written many pieces on texting, but specifically "2B or Not 2B?", on the contrary, believes that texting is not a bad thing, and it actually impacts texters in a positive way. Of the two authors, David Crystal provides a much more convincing argument through providing statistics and details, whereas John Humphrys uses his personal opinions in an attempt to convince readers. Crystal's ability to conceptualize (or rationalize) texters' motivations for abbreviating strengthens his argument by making him sound more knowledgeable as a writer. To begin his argument, Crystal makes the excellent point that people would not send texts that are unreadable, especially when texting is a service that is not free. It also is not all the time that people will send text with "slanguage" (Crystal 1), since not all situations will call for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Texting And Its Effects On Society Texting is causing Illiteracy in society Did you know the human race became illiterate the moment they started communicating by causing bad spellers, poor word structure and critical thinking and comprehension level? Illiteracy is the lack of ability to read and write. In 3200 BC the Egyptian Hieroglyphics was the longest communication towards one another. As time went on writing became shorter than earlier years, causing the hieroglyphics to be less effective. The human race is constantly evolving around new ways to communicate faster and shorter. Although texting is causing illiteracy in society it is conveniently to society. Social Media such as texting is the next evolutionary step to making the human race more illiterate. Some teachers and instructors believe its better for students to abbreviate text then not. The reason behind this is they believe students have to be smart to know how to abbreviate their words. The students develop an understanding of word basics and word structure. Teachers and instructors claim students who don't abbreviate text have a harder time putting words together. Other people thinks texting isn't causing illiteracy in society because they feel if you abbreviate your words you should still be able to remember how to spell out the words. Heidi Harley's essay "Why is it the CIA but not *the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions" explores the conventions of how acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition, Harley identifies patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically, embedded within the title is a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and initialisms are treated as proper nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley's methodology primarily uses a corpus compromised of about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used elicitation for more gray area cases of abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. • 22. Hox Gene Abbreviation The study of observing Hox gene expression was undertaken because of the confusion of their function. At the time Hox genes were known to pattern the embryo in an anterior to posterior fashion. They also knew loss–of–function or gain–of–function mutations caused major developmental changes, but it was hard to distinguish the specific type of mutation (ex. anterior or posterior homeotic transformations). It was also thought at the time that Hox genes played a role in global patterning, for comparative studies showed the boundaries of these genes changed the class of vertebrae. The problem was that mutations only made minor skeletal changes, which contradicted their thoughts about global patterning. To answer their thoughts about Hox genes, Hox10 and Hox11 were experimented with. The findings of the study were that Hox genes actually are involved with global patterning of axial skeletons of mammals (Wellick and Capecchi, 2003). To answer the question of whether the Hox genes globally pattern vertebrates, the scientists looked at loss of function mutants of Hox10 and Hox11. Humphrys argument poses that texting poses a threat to literacy in our society, Crystal refutes this by giving examples of how word alterations and abbreviations similar to that of texting have been used for centuries by those with an adequate understanding of language for sake of brevity and creativity. In addition, Eric Partridge published a Dictionary of Abbreviations in 1942. Containing many text–like examples, such as agn "again", mth "mouth", and gd "good". Symbols and number in writing have been used for a long while as well. There are called rebuses and they have been used since the middle centuries to create puzzles, surnames, or conventional representation. Not only is the use of these abbreviations that we see in texting something as old as the English language itself, the criticism associated with is is also something that is as equally ancient. Crystal (2008) explains: "English has had abbreviated words ever since it began to be written down. Words such as exam, vet, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Medical Abbreviations: A Career In The Medical Field In any medical record, it is normal to have a lot of abbreviations to support the diagnosis or reasons behind them. In my own opinion, they are used to save time and space while writing the patients' medical record, which is why taking medical terminology for any career in the medical field is important. Medical abbreviations have many benefits and limitations, and the limitations definitely over rule the benefits. The benefits for using the abbreviations are the saving of time and space when recording data or information, like I said before in my opinion. Another benefit for medical abbreviations is that only the medical personnel will know what is being described. It is an efficient way to keep a patients' privacy. However, there are many ... • 39. Communication Effects Of Communication Year after year, things change, people change, and technology gradually develops. Tweeting, texting, and other forms of abbreviated communication has come across us, making it more facile for us to communicate in the cyber world. Many of us question whether it affects our day to day lives, possibly transmuting the way we verbalize or our English language. The essay "Texting" by David Crystal describes the phenomenon of texting and how it has come to be (241). Similarly, Kris Axtman verbalizes about how the forms of abbreviated communication and slang affects us in his essay, "'r u online?': The Evolving Lexicon of Wired Teens" (247). As a teenager, I absorb the contemporary trends taking place in today's society, this includes abbreviated communication. There is a clear distinction between how I text and how I communicate in person, with live speech. I utilize abbreviated communication when I text my friends and in the cyber world with others. It is a way for me to communicate expeditiously as I don't have to type out the whole word, and my friends are still able to understand what I'm saying. However, utilizing abbreviated communication does not make an impact on how we speak with others when using live speech; because there are many factors that go into what is appropriate in society today. Tweeting, texting, and online communication over the past years have transmuted as we now abbreviate when we communicate. "Multi–word sentences and response sequences can be used, ... • 40. Medical Acronyms In the English language, acronyms have begun to take on the same role as their common word counterparts. Although they may initially be created to serve a purpose to a military or government, they have been adapted to fit into everyday language. Whether it be medical professionals, avid sports fans, or members of a certain generation, acronyms greatly contribute to group specific jargon. In militaries, efficiency is highly valued. To prevent from having to repeat obscenely long phrases, militaries frequently employ the use of acronyms. Due to this, many acronyms originate from the military and trickle their way into the common language. For example, the acronym, ASAP ("as soon as possible") was first used by military forces to express urgent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the medical field, many procedures or conditions have acronyms that represent them. This allows those in the medical community to trim down long medical terms and associate them with shorter words that are much easier to remember. When used between those in the healthcare field, these words do not pose a threat to the transferring of ideas, as both parties understand these words' meanings. However, if one party is an outsider of the medical field, the use of such acronyms could be detrimental to the communication between the two. Because of this, many doctors avoid using medical acronyms when conversing with a patient about matters of his or her health. Among certain groups with common interests, acronyms have evolved to be used as jargon. The use of such jargon often provides its users with a sense of belonging within a social circle. For example, sometimes middle–aged people may try to use initialisms that are popular with the younger generation in an attempt to "fit in" and rekindle the flame of their former youth. Interestingly, when such attempts are done incorrectly, it can often have the opposite effect and alienate the person from said group. This alienation occurs because the person is perceived to be desperate and believed to not share common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Rhetorical Strategies Of John Humhryss Rough Draft How does Humphry's use rhetorical strategies to persuade his readers? Introduction John Humphrys is very irritated that the writing he knows is been spoiled by people who are using slag and abbreviations when communicating. He believes that writing has been wrecked in a huge manner as all that he though was right is now not considered in writing. He is also afraid that even in some areas where he thought that writing should be official and all the rules followed, a lot of the texting slag is used. As he states, people use the abbreviations to take care of time and use the shortest time possible to communicate. But instead this is not true since there are a big percentage of people who take time to understand the meaning of the abbreviations but some even fail to understand the meaning or misinterpret them after they have wasted a lot of time. Therefore Humphrys is determined to convincing people that texting has affected the proper way of writing. John Humphrys used the different strategies of rhetorical persuasion to persuade his audience and make it believe that what he is arguing about is true. Ethos This is an appeal dealing with ethics, (Charland et al, 2017). It is a way in which a person is convinced of the credibility or the character of the persuader. John Humphrys uses ethos to convince his audience by expressing how he is credible and how he is well informed on the subject matter. He convinces the author that he has vast knowledge on writing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
