The student proposes making a short black and white horror film about a quarantined teenager. Originally planning a larger project, limited resources led to changing the idea. Psychological horror with a claustrophobic vibe interests the student, exploring how isolation affects mental stability. The film will mimic the style of The Lighthouse, using a 4:3 aspect ratio and black and white to create a feeling of darkness and claustrophobia. The goal is to unnerve and unsettle audiences, confusing them about what is real. Through isolating the character with no help, the film aims to have an old-fashioned feel using aspect ratio and cinematography from other classic films. This style was chosen due both to

FMP Pre Proposal 2
1. Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
For my final major project I am goingto make a
shortblack andwhite horror movie about being
quarantined.
Why have youdecided to makeit? I was originally planningon making a slightly
bigger casted indie teen movie, butdue to limited
resources I was forced to change my idea. I’ve
always wanted tomake a film, especially one
basedon psychologicalhorror, with a
claustrophobicvibe. I thoughtit wouldbe
interesting to makeas it can digestinto the mind
of an isolated teenager and how the current
situationsof the world can effect themmentally,
in terms of their mentalstability.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
I havealways wanted to makefilms, as it is my
favourite way of expressing my creativity and
makingentertainment, to makepeople feel. One
of the best ways tomake someonefeel from a
film is by makingthem feel scared andcreeped
out. So it would be an honourtofinally be able to
make somethingI have alwayswanted to make.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paperbased
activity)
One of, if not, the biggestinfluences for this
project was “The Lighthouse”(2019/20)byRobert
Eggers. I will be using a lot of features that that
film usesand thuswill be VERY similar in
comparison tothe film. Itis goingto have the
same look, I amgoing to use a 4:3 aspect ratio as
usedin the film, I will use this to addto the
element of claustrophobiasowe can feel what
the character is feeling. The black andwhite filter
will add to the feeling of darknessthatthe
character constantly feels inside.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want the audience to feel unnervedwhen
watching this movie, the imagery shouldconfuse
them as well as unsettlethem. I want the
audience to question what is actually real and
what is not. The film is meant to messwith the
viewers head and makethem want the character
to get outof the roomfor hissafety.
2. Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
The character is going tofeel isolatedand that’s
what I want the film tohave; thatwhilst he is
trappedin his room, there is noone that can help
him. It is going to havean old fashionedfeel toit
with the aspect ratio, black and white filter and
cinematography, aswell as other techniquesthat
are usedin other old fashionedmovies.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
Notonly is a style thatI’vealways wanted to put
to screen but it is also partsof the limits as to
what I can do dueto limited resources. Butit is
also an opportunity forme to explore what levels
of creativity I can explore.
