Looking back at your preliminary task
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

Skills Before Skills Now
Camera Skills At the beginning of the
course my camera skills
did exist but they were limited.
I had gained some filming skills
through skateboarding and
filming that. had also been
involved in a few media products
done by other, older students.
My camera skills now are a lot
better. I have learnt many different
shots so i am now able to use a
variety of still and moving shots.
The different shots that i have
learnt have allowed me to make
my film opening smoother as i
have the skills to use a
dolly and steady-cam. I have also
learnt how to use manual focus. This
has allowed me to have crisper and
better focused shots. My
improved camera skills have
hopefully been reflected in my film
opening.
What I Would Like To Do
In the future i would like to be able
to use extreme high angle shots as
well as large, panning establishing
shots. At the moment in time these
shots are near impossible to do as I
lack the required equipment like
mechanical cameras and a helicopter.
Editing Skills
At the start of the course my
editing skills were very basic as
I had had very little experience
with Adobe Premiere. However
I did have some experience with
a different software so the
concept of editing was not too
much of a mystery.
My editing skills are now a lot more
developed as i have been able to
practice using Premiere. I have also
watched some YouTube videos to
gain more experience and
understanding. My editing skills
have allowed me to create a film
opening that has smooth transitions
from shot to shot. My film opening
also makes sense as there is a clear
chronological story.
If I could re-do the editing of my
film opening i would like to further
my special effects skills. I would also
like to be able to create animated
titles. If i was able to create special
effects, i would be able to make my
film opening more action packed
as i could recreate gun shots. If i was
able to make professional looking
animated titles, my film would seem
a lot more technologically advanced.
Preliminary VS Film Opening
My preliminary task is where the idea for my film opening came from so i used it as a basis for my film.
However, i made a lot of changes, for example; in my preliminary task the location i used did not really
fit what was going on, so in my film opening i decided to mold everything around my film instead of vice
verser. My film opening is filmed a lot better as well, the shots are not shaky and they are focussed a lot
better. The pacing of my preliminary is one thing that i did like but it was a bit too slow, so in my film
opening i decided to speed it up a bit and this was possible as my camera and editing skills had improved.
