My preliminary task was one of the firsttimes I have filmed and edited any
videos, and put them on blogger, along with analysis and evaluation tasks.
At the startof the courseI had these skills:
1. I could usea camera before but with only basic knowledge - but now I
have extended knowledgewhen using a camera this means that I could
complete certain shots for my film that I wanted to like long shots or
using focus pull and blurring out the background.
2. In my opinion I have learnt the mostfrom premier pro, at the beginning
of this process I had never used premier pro before, however I now have
sound knowledgeof mostaspects of premier pro, especially with the
cutting tool, and being able to view my clips, this meant I was able to
select the most appropriateclips for my film so that it flowed better and
made the pacing a lot faster, which helped build up suspensedueto the
shortsentences that made a lasting effect.
3. I have never used blogger before this process so again I learnt a lot from
this which meant I could upload my film, but also the process and
evaluation of making it, it’s a very easy and simple way to display the
information. Itis very easy to upload information and throughoutthe
process I havelearnt how to get certain documents on by uploading to
slide shareand copying the embedded code.
In my preliminary task there is a list of things that I felt was wrong and could
have been improved on – these are someof the problems and the
improvements I made when filming my actual film:
Out of focus- in my preliminary task most of my shots were out of focus this
was due to me filming in auto focus rather than manual, therefore when it
came to my film Aftermath I decided to use manual focus for my film so that I
could choosethe right focus for my shot as this is a huge factor in making my
film look professional also its very important for portraying my actors emotions
in the interviewing
Choice of actors- I chosefor my prelim task actors who werecamera shy and
weren’tsuited for the script and characters. So in my film I carefully selected
skilfuland experienced actors who would suit each of the characters very well,
for example Molly the innocent victim, but turned out to be evil was play by
Eleanor penfold who I though was greatfor this character becauseshe is very

2. innocent but can have a different/deviant look and twistin her when needed
too.
Script- for my preliminary task I didn’tspend much time and put in much
thought towards my script, this is shown through my actors having to
improviseas the scriptdidn’t flow well and fit my conventions. Whereas for my
film opening I did a lot of research to create a realistic scriptfor my horror film
which fit the codes and convention of my film and creating suspense.
Preparation/location - for my final film opening I did a lot of preparation which
led to my film being very easy to film and edit, also giving me a lot of time to
spend on it, as I scheduled my timings out. I felt this was a very important
aspect for my film due to the amount of aspects that needed to be sorted even
before I started filming, for example getting my actors to location at the right
time, booking the photography studio at the right time and also having my
equipment ready to use e.g. tripod, camera and mic. I also made sureI have
dark low key lighting set up in the photography studio which was very
appropriatefor my genre and conventions.
Match on action- although it was displayed in my preliminary task it could have
been more fluid I made sure I used a wider rangeof camera shots, for my film
opening, one of the key camera shots was the extreme close up I used on my
main character ‘Molly’ to show true emotion in her facial expressions and her
eyes.
But for me the major aspectI need to work on was getting lots of clips that
were filmed 5 secs before and after so that when I came to editing it was easy
to cut the clip to exactly where I wanted and the clips flowed into each other a
lot better.
There are a lot of skills I would like to develop in the future these include:
 Camera lighting
 Within editing I would like to developed skills to be able to
producespecial affects as in the future I could make my films a lot
more interesting and effective for my audience members which
may makethem wantto watch more.
