Working With Children and Adolescents: The Case of Claudia Claudia is a 6-year-old, Hispanic female residing with her biological mother and father in an urban area. Claudia was born in the United States 6 months after her mother and father moved to the country from Nicaragua. There is currently no extended family living in the area, but Claudia’s parents have made friends in the neighborhood. Claudia’s family struggles economically and has also struggled to obtain legal residency in this country. Her father inconsistently finds work in manual labor, and her mother recently began working three nights a week at a nail salon. While Claudia is bilingual in Spanish and English, Spanish is the sole language spoken in her household. She is currently enrolled in a large public school, attending kindergarten. Claudia’s family lives in an impoverished urban neighborhood with a rising crime rate. After Claudia witnessed a mugging in her neighborhood, her mother reported that she became very anxious and “needy.” She cried frequently and refused to be in a room alone without a parent. Claudia made her parents lock the doors after returning home and would ask her parents to check the locks repeatedly. When walking in the neighborhood, Claudia would ask her parents if people passing are “bad” or if an approaching person is going to hurt them. Claudia had difficulty going to bed on nights when her mother worked, often crying when her mother left. Although she was frequently nervous, Claudia was comforted by her parents and has a good relationship with them. Claudia’s nervousness was exhibited throughout the school day as well. She asked her teachers to lock doors and spoke with staff and peers about potential intruders on a daily basis. Claudia’s mother, Paula, was initially hesitant to seek therapy services for her daughter due to the family’s undocumented status in the country. I met with Claudia’s mother and utilized the initial meeting to explain the nature of services offered at the agency, as well as the policies of confidentiality. Prior to the meeting, I translated all relevant forms to Spanish to increase Paula’s comfort. Within several minutes of talking, Paula noticeably relaxed, openly sharing the family’s history and her concerns regarding Claudia’s “nervousness.” Goals set for Claudia included increasing Claudia’s ability to cope with anxiety and increasing her ability to maintain attention throughout her school day. Using child-centered and directed play therapy approaches, I began working with Claudia to explore her world. Claudia was intrigued by the sand tray in my office and selected a variety of figures, informing me that each figure was either “good” or “bad.” She would then construct scenes in the sand tray in which she would create protective barriers around the good figures, protecting them from the bad. Social Work Research: Couples Counseling Kathleen is a 37-year-old, Caucasian female of Irish descent, and her partner, Lisa, is a 38-year-old, Caucasian female with a Hungarian ethnic background. Kathleen reports that she has a long family history of substance use but has never used alcohol or drugs herself. She does not have a criminal history and utilized counseling services 10 years ago for family issues regarding her father’s alcohol use. Kathleen works as a nurse in a local hospital on the cardiac floor where she has been employed for 8 years. Lisa reports experimenting with substances during college. She currently drinks wine on occasion. Lisa does not have a criminal history. Lisa has had many jobs and stated that she was unable to find her niche until recently when she took out a loan and opened a small Hungarian restaurant serving her grandmother’s recipes. Her restaurant has been open 1 year. Lisa reports that while she enjoys the work and has found her niche, she must work constantly to be successful, and she is worried the business might fail. Kathleen and Lisa have been together for over 15 years. They have a close group of friends and see their families on major holidays. They came to outpatient counseling at a nonprofit agency to examine the possibility of starting a family together. They were both feeling ambivalent about it, and it had been the source of more than a few arguments, so they decided to come to counseling to address their concerns in a more productive way. They said they chose this agency because it was recognized as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) friendly. They asked about my sexual orientation and my history because they were concerned about my level of experience working with the issues they were presenting. I thanked Kathleen and Lisa for sharing this concern, and I informed them of various programs I had worked in within the agency, including supportive services for LGBT youth in schools and in the community. I also shared our agency philosophy and mission, which includes outcome measures and engaging clients in feedback to evaluate practice. I explained the tools we used to measure outcomes. The first form measures how each of them are feeling with regard to their life and current circumstances. There are four different scales to measure aspects of their lives, such as social, family, emotional health, etc. I also provided the chart on which I score the scales and track progress. I explained that the purpose was to see where they began to demonstrate progress with the work we were doing. The second form measures how well I am providing treatment. I demonstrated the four scales that measure if the client feels heard and understood and if we addressed in session what they wanted to. I explained that this should address their concern about my ability to assist them. Because we would be evaluating both how they felt and how the sessions were going each week, we could make adjustments on treatme.

UAE is earning money by transportation and tourism, the pandemic has a drastic effect on the economy already and the transportation is ban as there are many cases in UAE, the country earned 19.5 $ billion in 2019 by air transportation and it is around 5% percent of GDP last year. It is expected that the UAE GDP will reduce to 2.5 % this year. It is noted that the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) index is reduced to 2.36 percent (40.79 points) to 1,682.08, while the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) dropped 2.18 percent to 3,676.46 points. "The government is making plans to announce financial support and the firms have a chance to receive additional debts. The import and export figures of Gold are very important for UAE because UAE is the major country to import the unwrought gold and they export it in semi-worked and jewelry form that is 25 percent of their total export. The import and export can affect the economy as there is no trade going on in the world, India is on top to purchase the Gold from UAE. If the Gold prices push higher and the rupee falls the major threat is that Indian migrant workers would stop investing in the business. They are many in numbers and if they would send their money to home instead of investing it will reduce the import and export. The Oil prices are dropping and the import and export reduction can result in dropping the currency value of UAE, they are earning money by tourism and air transport the pandemic already reduces the activities so there are many chances that the currency of UAE would badly fall if they would not control the pandemic on time. Tourism and Air transport is a total of 11 % of the total GDP of the UAE, it can drastically fall. The companies and banking sector are already affected so there are many chances the currency may lose its value. UAE have to reduce their tourism and air transport prices to overcome such issues in time. Measures UAE has to take serious steps to overcome such issues, the biggest issue can be unemployment because of a reduction in trade and tourism. The UAE government should focus on making plans to help needy people and employers who lost their jobs, the countries like the USA and Denmark are creating a trillion dollars budget for the people who lost their jobs. UAE has the most job holders are from India and Pakistan if they delay the budget plan the companies can be turned off eventually. To overcome the pandemic and economic issues, they must focus on giving people relief so they can again in UAE for its prosperity. The banking sector must give the companies relief packages for loan repayment and they must give them additional packages to employers and companies to overcome financial issues.
