Why?
For my front cover image, I will be
shooting it a school classroom. The
photograph will be taken before the
October Half Term, so a likely day would be
20th October. The classroom will have
natural light coming in, through the
windows and the idea of the image being
taken during the school day so I am able to
capture a high key lighting image.
The contents page will feature an
image of myself, at this time I have
decided that I will be using high key
lighting as I am sure on fit in with my
theme. The picture is going to be taken
in my own house in Banstead or at my
school. Like the front cover image, it
will be before the October half term,
so a likely day is 20th October.
For my double page spread image, I
will be using myself, like I am for the
contents page and front cover images.
I am undecided whether I wish to use
low key or high key lighting as on one
hand I want to use high key lighting to
present the clothing I am wearing,
however I believe low key lighting is
able to indicate the exclusiveness of
the article and its mystery. Like the
contents page and front cover image, I
will be taking the photograph before
the October half term, a likely day
being the 20th October. It will be
captured in either my house in
Banstead or my school

For my front cover image, I will be using a
medium close shot, in which the models
face, shoulder and part of arms are visible.
I will be facing away from the camera, with
my face tilted to the side. This is because
this convention is shown in my magazine
of inspiration, and additionally, I believe it
would be a good way to highlight mystery,
as the model is unable to look the camera
For each of the front cover, contents
page and DPS I will be using the same
model. This technique suggests that
the magazine is consistent. For the
contents page, the model will be
dressed in similar clothing to the front
cover, once again connoting
consistency. The image will be a long
shot of the model, capturing his whole
The images seen in my DPS are likely
to be a long shot as well as a medium
close-up. The long shot allows the
camera to capture the entire
individual, highlighting their clothing.
As I have previously stated, I plan to
use the clothing the model is wearing
to my advantage, as it is able to
connote to the consumer that the

directly, connoting that there is a secret
hidden in the magazine.
Additionally, for this image, I will be using
a little amount/no amount of props
(necklace possibly). This is because even
though the hip-hop culture is dominated by
jewellery and bling to represent status and
act as a metaphorical symbol, the use of
myself being ‘bare faced’ connotes
originality.
For my front cover photograph, I will be
utilising high-key lighting to clearly display
the clothing worn. This is because many
hip-hop artists wear high end and
fashionable clothing to connote their
wealth and success. I believe that dressing
like Kanye West in his Q magazine shot
(one of my magazines of inspiration), I am
able to appeal to the hip-hop community,
as this is a stereotyped look for many
artists.
I will be dressed in very fashionable
clothing to appeal to my target audience.
This is because many consumers of hip-
hop magazines enjoy seeing their favourite
artists in high-end clothing due to it
suggesting their ‘come up’ to fame and
fortune. A likely costume would consist of:
fashionable hoodie, high-end ripped jeans,
and exclusive shoes.
Ironically, the person appearing in my
magazine is myself. I admit that this is
ironic as I am a white male whom does not
seen to ‘fit into’ the hip hop community,
due to the stereotype being black
American-Americans. However, I plan to
body, and most importantly his
clothing. I believe that this type of shot
is able to ‘show off’ the high-end
clothing the model is wearing. In my
magazine, there is a large emphasis for
luxury; therefore, the long shot is a
great way of broadcasting luxury due
to the models expensive clothes. There
will be no need for props, as I want to
largely emphasise the clothing seen,
highlighting that due to the
exclusiveness of the clothing, the
magazine is going to be of the same. I
will utilise high key lighting as another
method to show off the clothing. This
page will have a long shot image of the
model, preferably standing on one
side of the page, with the information
being on the other side. This is able to
indicate that even though the models
appearance is important, so is the
content and therefore this promotes
that the magazine is not driven by the
materialistic things such as clothes but
strives to provide the best content for
its consumers. Ideally, the costume
for the contents page will be myself
dressed in: a high end t-shirt, black
ripped jeans, and fashionable shoes.

seen is wearing high end clothing. In
the medium close-up, I am most likely
going to take the image of the
individual looking into the camera,
connoting that due to the DPS being a
place for interviews, that this is where
everything is confessed, as in the
previous front cover and content page,
the star is not looking into the camera.
I will once again utilise high key
lighting to emphasise the high-end
clothing worn. For the long shot, I
plan to dress myself in: a iconic white
sweatshirt, luxury navy jacket, blue
ripped jeans, and exclusive shoes. In
the medium close-up, the camera will
only capture an image upwards from
my waist. This means that the seen-
costume for this shot will be only a
fashionable hoodie.
