1. Photography Planning
FRONT COVER 1
My model will be male and the location will be a
studio setting. I will only photograph one person to
appear on the cover so the shot can be a medium
close up; taken from the chest up, and the angle
will be straight on, at eye level, as I think this is
more engaging.
I may look at using a prop on my cover, something
for the model to hold, the example here is a
cigarette, which I will not use, as I don’t want to be
seen as encouraging smoking for my audience as
this could include young people too and I want my
magazine to be a positive influence. However I may
consider using a different prop.
My model’s costume will consist of dull colours,
like blacks and greys, as I don’t want them in bright
colours, I want them to look serious and this way,
the text will stand out too as I am fulfilling a design
niche and so my colours are more muted, which
won’t be seen over bright colours. I also think this
will look classier, than a mess of colour that would
make it difficult to focus on the stories.
FRONT COVER 2
In this plan I have again used one male model. The
shot will be a medium long shot, from the knees
up, at an eye level angle, to engage the audience
but to make the subject slightly more isolated than
in a medium close up.
This shot also allows including a prop and in this
case a guitar has been used. I may choose to use a
guitar as a prop as it is specific to the music theme
and in particular, the rock genre I have.
I have decided again on the location of the shot to
be in a studio as I think this looks more
professional and classier than if they were
somewhere with little meaning making the image
look busy and messier.
Again I have chosen to have my model in a simple
costume with dark and muted colours, to stand
out against the white background that I will use
and so they look professional. This will consist of
jeans and a t-shirt- really simple clothing.
2. CONTENTS PAGE 1
Model: Using the singer
from my contents page
with the rest of the band,
4 male models.
Shot: medium long shot,
from the knees up to get
the full band in and more
casual.
Angle: slightly lower than
eye level so looking up at
the models, seems more
aspirational.
Location: I want this to be a more relaxed shot, like you’re seeing an exclusive shot of the band not
looking professional and serious, so I chose for this one to be an on location shot, not in a studio.
Costume and Mise en scene: I want my models to wear natural clothing so it doesn’t look too staged
and I want it to look effortless, so I will use costumes of jeans, t-shirts and loose jackets, all with a
similar sort of colour scheme, so it does look like they are still a band.As this is supposed to be a
natural shot, I want the background to reflect this and be taken outside, with trees or some form of
nature outside. I don’t want the models stood in a line either looking posed; I want them in a group,
all messing around and looking comfortable together.
CONTENTS PAGE 2
Model: One male model,
a famous lead singer.
Shot: taken from the
waist up, with the model
facing away, in a concert
or gig situation.
Angle: straight forward
standard eye level shot.
Location:Ideally I would
like my model in a
concert or gig situation, in
which they are facing
away, into the audience. So I’d like my shot to be on location, giving you the exclusive.
Costume and Mise en scene: I would like my model to be wearing what is typical of rock musicians
to wear at their own gigs, so comfortable but stylish clothes, so maybe jeans, and a nice top,
something considered up to date and trendy to the target audience. I would like to capture the idea
of the audience in front without actually seeing them, so I will need to do this using light.
3. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 1
Model: One male model, the same one as
featured on the front cover.
Shot:medium close up, from the chest up,
so it’s engaging to the audience.
Angle: Eye level, again to engage the
audience, even though the model may not
be looking directly at the camera, it makes
the audience feel included.
Location: I want my double page spread
shot to be taken in a studio, because I think
this would look more sophisticated and
classy.
Costume and Mise en scene: I would like
my model to be wearing something fairly
smart, but not to the extent of the example
image I have, maybe wearing a shirt and
jeans, to portray the sophistication image
more thoroughly and to be taken seriously.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 2
Model: one male singer, the same as on
my front cover.
Shot: I would consider a long shot for
my double page spread, to get the full
image of the singer.
Angle:Taken at eye level, so the singer is
still engaged with the audience.
Location: I think this location type is
effective, it had been taken in a studio,
but made to look like it is on location,
but the photographer still has full
control over all the variables.
Costume and Mise en scene: I may have
my model dressed really simply, black
jeans and plain white t-shirt, to seem
casual and relaxed. I think the spacing of
props is good, and may use this type of
prop in my shoot, e.g., the guitar.
