Treatment for initial music video idea Kamikaze - MO
1. Treatment for initial
music video idea
Kamikaze - MO
Goal – Write up a detailed synopsis of what the
video is. Discuss it’s concept, style, characters,
locations, themes, editing, target audience,
lighting and textures.
2. Music video style
This is a narrative music video – It has a clear storyline
with a beginning, middle and end. It’s often intercut with
performance from the band/artist.
The song itself tells a clear story through it’s lyrics ‘Take
me to the party, Kami-Kamikaze, Blame it on the bus, I am
never gonna get enough’
Narrative music videos are popular within the pop music
genre, usually telling a story about love or heartbreak.
3. What’s happening in the video?
Beginning – Main female character has various arguments with
her parents. Close ups of the girl to show that she is the artist
of the song. Smoking out the window – symbol of rebellion
before she sneaks out the house to meet with friends.
Middle – Shows the girl rebelling and having fun at
funfair/theme park. Shots of her jumping in pond and in pool
with friends. Shots of her first kiss, drinking, flares going off
as she runs through a field, fireworks and a bonfire represent
her new found freedom.
End – Too much rebelliousness and freedom has taken it’s toll.
She is lying in a field with her friends as they wait for sunrise,
portraying how she’s been out all night. It becomes obvious
she has had overdosed as her friends try and save her.
4. Who are the characters?
Our target audience is aged between 16 and 25 as is our
main female character, this is so she is relatable to our
viewers.
Our main character at first appears to be lovely and
caring, although her dark side is later revealed. She is
shown to be rebellious, with a chilled, care-free attitude.
She often feels angry and trapped as a result of arguing
with her parents and doesn’t take into account the
feelings of anyone else around her.
5. Location
In order we will be using these locations:
Inside and outside a house – To show the main female character in her home life, where
she’s unhappy under the control of her parent’s.
Roads, in her car – Her escape from her strict home life.
Funfair/theme park – Represents fun and freedom.
Pond – Represents freedom and lack of boundaries.
Another house’s backyard with pool– House party situation.
Field – Represents her freedom and how she has taken it for granted as this is the final
location used, where she is shown to have overdosed.
6. Themes/colours/lighting
Beginning – The atmosphere is tense due to an argument
the character has with her parents. Dark colours and
lighting will be used to represent the character beiing
moody and angry e.g. black, grey, brown, navy.
Middle to end – The main character has rebelled and is
feeling free, partying and enjoying life. Vibrant colours
and lighting will be used to represent these feelings e.g.
pink, purple, blue, red, green.
7. Edit/pace
The video will increase in pace as it goes along. This is to
represent the character’s transition from her being under
her parents strict control to her rebelling and partying.
Editing many short shots of our character together in
different locations in a small space of time connotes that
our character has accomplished much throughout her
evening.
The end of the video decreases in pace as the song comes
to an end and our character has realised that she has
overdone the partying lifestyle.
8. Target audience
Our target audience is:
Age – 16-25
Gender – 65% female, 35% male
Class – middle class – skilled working class
Ethnicity – all ethnicities
Location – Europe and USA
These are the demographics to which the genre of pop
music appeals to the most.
