2. TAYLOR SWIFT - RED,
2012
- The colours red and white are used for
the font. Red has connotations of
passion, love and power. White has
connotations of purity, innocence,
goodness and light.
- The use of shadows and light here is
also significant as it draws attention to
the red lipstick.
- Red lipstick is associated with
confidence and charisma. This
suggests that she is trying to
communicate a message of
indpendence and power.
3. THE BACK OF THE
LEAFLET.
- This is a mid shot of Taylor herself,
and it shows her in a white shirt with
her red lipstick again.
- Her fringe seems to partially over her
eyes suggesting an underlying sense
of defiance and power.
- She hold black sunglasses which
further this idea of defiance but also
convey an idea of secrecy and
caution.
- the background shows a forest
giving the idea of freedom.
4. CD
- The CD uses the same red
and white colour scheme.
- It is contrasting and is
suggestive of a personal
change in perspective.
Possibly, rejection of her
naïve younger self and
growth through a dramatic
event.
5. BACK OF THE CASE
- The same layout as that of the CD
including the track list within the red
stripes with white font.
- Very tiny white writing, includes the
producer and record label details,
Scott Borchetta and
BLUEMACHINERECORDS.
- Partial low angle candid shot of her
walking, implying a care free
appearance. She appears to be
looking over her shoulder
suggesting a cautious exterior.
6. FIRST DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD OF
LEAFLET
- The first double spread has been made a prologue to the album, a feature
that fans would not otherwise be able to see if they had not purchased the
digipak.
- She says on this page that the album is based on love and heartbreak. This
would explain the use of the colour red and white as when you are in a
relationship everything is happy and innocent until one experiences the
heartbreak and the anger and pain that comes along with that.
- Her signature is shown underneath her quote which adds an element of
personality. This further appeals to a buyer as it makes them feel as
though it was actually signed by Taylor even if that was not the case.
7. SECOND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
OF LEAFLET
- This image of Taylor from the back shows her balancing a
guitar with her left hand. This strongly suggests the element of
power and ability to take to the world. It could also be
suggestive of her personal ability to create music and let her
feelings and emotions flow out.
- The red triangle is placed in the bottom left hand corner over
the image where the title of the song title is placed in white.
This may be to signify that we must find the positives in the bad
times and to keep optimistic about life and the future.
8. THIRD DOUBLE SPREAD OF
LEAFLET
- Here on the left hand side, we see an image of Taylor with her hair
all messy and unkempt in the wind implying freedom and
independence.
- On the right hand side we see a side image of Taylor wearing an
outfit that is very trendy and is typical for young people
everywhere. This adds to a small degree to the overall appeal to
want to buy her album.
- The whole image has a red tint over further conveying the
theme and title of the album.
9. FOURTH DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
OF LEAFLET
- This page features the red tint all over.
- It contains the same image on each side but the first is far more
zoomed in on. This corresponds to the title of the songs that is
being referred to, ‘all too well’ suggesting that she has
experienced the same heartbreak and she has learned.
- All of these aspects appeal to a wider audience who have
experienced what she has gone through and the relatable
aspects is what sells more copies more easily.
10. FIFTH DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD OF
LEAFLET
- Here we see two images with zoomed in images placed next to them.
- Taylor is used for all of the frames and features no body else.
- The zoomed in versions imply a sense of intimacy and closeness.
- Her physical positions in both frames are contrasting. The left shows
that she has put her hand on her hip showing that she is independent
and confident. However, the image on the right shows her sitting on
the ground with her hands on her knees suggesting a youthful
innocent image. This idea corresponds to the use of the colours of
white and red.
11. SIXTH DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD OF
LEAFLET
- This image shows her along in a forest
walking through water. It is a very natural
earthly image which suggests freedom
and spiritual mindfulness.
12. KATE BUSH - THE WHOLE
STORY, 1986
- The font and colour scheme
is very simplistic, refined
and sophisticated.
- Simple black font in front of
a white background.
- The portrait of Kate Herself,
a classic black and white
image. Communicating her
innocent unassuming face.
- The title of the album is a
fraction smaller than the
name of the artist.
13. BACK OF THE DIGIPAK
- Silhouette of a person
climbing a mountain of
furniture it seems conveying
an idea of a personal battle.
- This image in contrast to the
dreamlike landscape f the sky
and the sun. the colour of the
sky closely resembling purity
and happiness.
- This silhouette appears to be
someone other than Kate
Bush which contrast to
constant use of Taylor in all
of the frames..
14. CD
- The CD has a very simplistic design implying that it
doesn’t need to have substance because the content
of what is on the CD is rich with substance.
- CD shows the artist, album title, track list and
additional information. This is beneficial for people
who may like to separate the case and the CD maybe
put into an album or something similar to that.
15. FIRST DOUBLE PAGE OF THE
LEAFLET
- Again, a very simple layout, showing the track list
again and also adding of the original release dates
of some of the songs.
- Also shows a range of other album covers to
promote the other albums.
16. SECOND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
OF LEAFLET
- The second page shows the same
regarding details and have similar layout.
- Features more photos of Kate Bush.
17. THIRD DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
OF LEAFLET
- Contains thank you messages, and
particular details.
