2. Synopsis
• The overall theme of our music video is a
relationship and then the break up. This means that
we will be using different locations to shoot various
stages including the performance and then the
narrative. We will firstly present the relationship
that they were in and then slowly transform into the
present time throughout the video portraying to the
audience that the situation has changed. We will
then show the breakup to show the change within
the narrative and also the character. We want to
show her changing from a soft warm personality to
a brave and a courageous personality.
3. Character
• The character within the video will be a younger
aged girl roughly between the ages of 17-19.
This will fit in with our theme due to her being
involved in the relationship too much, leading to
the breakup being horrific. The girl will be small
and petite, making her vulnerable and unstable
when she is on her own.
4. Locations
• We would use many locations within our music
video allowing us to interlink all the specific
places to make a narrative. For example the use
of a car when she is in the relationship and then
a field on her own when she is single will give a
dramatic change to the narrative compared to if
they were only seen in the car. This leads the
audience to think about the journey of the
relationship and how its evolved.
5. Costume
• She will vary within the costumes as she will be based in four different
settings. The first costume will be an outfit she will be comfortable in.
This is to portray the events she has with her boyfriend making her
not worry about what she wears with her boyfriend. She will look
relaxed in this situation. The change to the studio performance will
also change the costume again which means that we would want her
to look professional aswell as a well-known singer. For these sections
she would be wearing a formal costume that will show her as an
individual and her as a brand. The finally when the narrative continues
and she is on her own after the breakup she will be wearing something
that will make her stand out for example something that brings out her
looks. This will symbolise that she is looking for another relationship
and is not hindered by the previous break up. The use of the single
figure in her outfit will show her power and her fire she holds,
displaying she isn’t upset in anyway.
6. Costumes - Colours
• Red – Red is a bold colour that evokes a powerful
emotion of passion, lust, sex and war. This relates
to our character very well as she is seen to have
been very deeply in love with her ex-boyfriend. Lust
will be presented through the outfit and the actions
of our female, to make the audience desire her
strong attitude and make the video more enjoyable.
Finally, war will be shown through the battle
between the female and her ex-boyfriend, which
will help explain the narrative to the viewer.
7. Costume - Colours
• Blue – Blue is a colour that represents loyalty, strength
and trust. The loyalty will be portrayed through the blue
clothing that will be worn. The loyalty will be seen
through the female loving the male figure but then seeing
the male break up with her. This will then show the
audience he hasn’t been loyal to her but she has been to
him. Strength and trust will be shown by the female
figure not worrying about the break up and keeping her
head high. This will immediately show to the audience
that she is a strong minded character who wont get hurt
easily. Finally trust will be a major part within this video
as the whole relationship is based on trust and with the
trust being broken the blue will symbolise the trust
barrier being broken.
8. Influences
• We have taken inspiration on the structure of Lana
Del Ray’s music video ‘Summertime Sadness’ and
National Anthem. This complies with the genre’s
characteristics and visuals towards the music. It
also defies the male gaze as she is dominant all the
way through and all the focus is on her. It also
holds a retro feel which is done through the orange
tint within the camera shots which allows the
audience to immediately associate the footage
shown to be old and past experiences.
