2. CONCEPT
For our music video we came up with our concept from the use of lyrics
in our chosen song, Kamikaze by Mo.
Lyrics consisting off "Let it all go" "Fly free" "Take me to the party", we
decided to base our music video on the idea of freedom with a
rebellious main character.
From the lyrics "I need to get in too deep" we came up with initial ideas
of our character wanting to push her boundaries. We would show this
through drugs, partying and alcohol. We came up with the idea our
character might run away from her parents caused by an argument,
and is why she wants to rebel to teach her parents some sort of lesson,
or get attention.
The use of drugs comes from the idea of the song name 'Kamikaze' as
it is planes loaded with explosives flown by pilots trained to make
suicidal crash attacks. We had the idea of our character over dosing or
passed out from drugs at the end of the video to connote the meaning
behind the video.
3. STYLE OF MUSIC VIDEO
Although are group loved the creating a performance based music
video we decided to do a narrative music video.Due to the fact that
1. Be hard for my group to create good choreography especially as we
have no background of dance
2. It would be hard finding an actor that could follow the choreography
and if they could could possibly delay the process of making our video
A narrative video means we can tell a story through visuals and the
lyrics of the song as well as a narrative video fitting into our chosen pop
genre.
With our narrative video we can film elements of performance and
dance through the cuts and camera angles, constant change of location
and follow elements of other pop videos.
4. STORYLINE
Start:
At the start of our music video we will film our character having an argument
with their parents then storming out the house ignoring what her parents
have said or sneaking out, breaking the rules.
Middle:
We will see the character letting lose at different locations. We will film her in
different states; head out the window of car with hair blowing everywhere
signifying freedom, her dancing with friends to show when she's most happy
and a sexual nature for female gaze as well as to show an element of love
which follows the pop genre trend.
End:
Our character will be lying in meadow with eyes shut at sunrise, showing
that she has been out all day and night. We will end with her eyes shut,
open to interpretation but with the suggestion that she has overdosed. Then
we will have an extreme close up of her eyes opening as it is rare for a pop
video to end on a death.
5. CHARACTERS
Main character will be a female with a rebellious cool vibe with an I don't care attitude.
She will be pretty and although may look soft from the outside, after we show the argument
with parents at the start and she rebels we will the portray her hard interior and her strong
minded self.
-The character will be aged 16-25 so our target audience could relate to the character in our
video.
-The character will have taken inspiration from the character ‘Effy’ from the TV series Skins.
-We will film a bird flying to symbolize a free soul and connotation of breaking loose.
-Our character my feels angry at her parents so does anything she knows they would
disapprove. She isn't influenced by others and does what she wants to do.
We will also include 1 other prominent character that follows the lead character throughout as
well as extras to act as her friends in the music video.
7. LOCATIONS
In the music video my group is going to try
evoke feelings of our character breaking
free.
My group is going to be shooting at
locations such as:
- Hampstead heath in a meadow
- House parties, with a crazy atmosphere
- A club, to show her upbeat manner
- In a house to start the music video
showing her background
- Primrose hill, showing the view of London
- Fun fair/ winter wonderland - letting lose
- Hampstead pond or a pool - jumping in
with clothes showing freedom and 'you
only live once' attitude which is in many
pop videos
8. EDIT/PACE/TRANSITIONS/
➤ The pace at the beginning will be a regular speed but as the music
goes on we will increase the speed and cuts of the shots.
➤ At the start of the music video we will show a few locations with
similar shots. As the music video continues we will have frequent
change of locations, camera angles and faster speed of the shots
indicating our characters change of lifestyle, from being in a strict
household to her rebellious life with friends and showing her eventful
night.
➤ The end will slow down in changes of shots with the end scene of her
zooming into her face in slow motion, showing that she's overdone
more than she can handle and is ready to go back to reality and
leave her unruly lifestyle.
9. LIGHTING
➤ Throughout our media we will have dark lighting during the start of
the music video, signifying the argument, anger and dark side of
our characters personality as well as relationship with her parents.
➤ The music video will later get brighter and more colorful to
represent a happy side of our character and to show our vibrant
locations signifying freedom and letting loose. We fill film in the day
light, capturing the sun and birds flying and we will also film bright
lights in the night.
10. TARGET AUDIENCE
➤ Our target audience will be from aged 16-25
➤ It will be for a unisex audience which means both genders may
be able to relate to our story line, but as our main character is
female we thought our target will be 65% female and 35% male
➤ We will target all ethnicities
➤ In our video we will include love and rebellion as these themes
are often seen within the pop genre. These things both correlate
to our chosen genre as well as the our target audience of young
adults who can relate or who have experience falling in love or
done something to rebel against their parents, letting loose.
