2. Christina Perri - Lovestrong
◦ This is a simple front cover of the artist herself, she is promoting her own
album. She is seen with her hand on her hip which shows that she feels quite
defensive and angry about something however, her facial expressions are
quite happy and she's looking right at the camera drawing the audiences
attention making them feel like she's with them when they listen to her
music.
◦ She's on her own in the album and this highlights that she is a strong and
independent woman and that she doesn’t need anything fancy for people to
see that she's beautiful and that people should focus more on her talent and
her music than anything else.
◦ She isn’t seen wearing anything fancy or over the top and her hair is down,
not styled in any particular way. This also showing that she feels confident in
the way she looks and so doesn’t need to hid behind lots of makeup and
costumes.
◦ The colour scheme is grey this symbolising darkness and sadness, meaning
that the artist is getting her feelings across through the songs and that they
are quite sad songs.
3. Lovestrong
◦ The album is called lovestong and this name could mean that she feels strong about the emotion love and her
opinion on love could be a big part of her life as this is her first album as an artist.
◦ The font style looks like its from a typewriter and there are no capital letters. I wouldn’t say the album is old
fashioned but I believe its because the love songs and the type of music she sings, what could be seen as
traditional love songs.
◦ The title ’lovestrong’ shows that she feels strong about love and her opinion on love could be a big part of
her life as this is her first album. Also her being alone on the cover shows she's a strong and confident
woman.
4. Lovestrong - Back Cover
◦ The back cover of Christina Perri's album has the same
font type as the front cover.
◦ The colours are grey similar to the front again. The theme
has carried on.
◦ The writing again looks like from a typewriter. It doesn’t fill
the whole back and she’s left a lot of space just blank. This
is showing it doesn’t matter about all the fancy colour and
its simple as its more about the music.
◦ The style of music shows as being quite a pop style and
love songs. She's independent and strong willed.
5. Taylor Swift - Red
◦ In this image you can see the artist herself, Taylor Swift, looking downwards.
She is wearing red lipstick which is a very powerful colour. She's wearing a hat
and it’s a blurred back ground and the focus is on Taylor Swift. The shadow
from her hat is covering most of her face but highlighting her lips making them
stand out more.
◦ The style is very modern and the colour choices are quite natural, there is
nothing too fancy or over the top on this cover. She is making a statement
about the colour red however, this is symbolising love, romance or on the other
hand it is symbolising evil, danger and hatred.
◦ She's looking downwards not facing the camera showing that she doesn’t want
to be seen face on, her face is also on an angle.
◦ The genre of the music is pop and this is clearly shown because she is well-
known and so many people will recognise this quickly as pop music. She looks
modern as the hat is in fashion and very stylish and her red lipstick stands out.
6. Ellie Goulding – Halcyon Days
◦ The colours of this image are quite warm and its gradient from dark blue to
a purple and then pink colour. The artist is seen facing sideways with her
hair covering some of her face in a different way as though she's turning
around fast.
◦ She is alone and again this shows a confident woman that doesn’t need
anything fancy or over the top. The background is just colour and so again is
quite a plain choice however because the colours are vibrant they stand out
and Ellie is also within the background colours, it blends in.
◦ I think that the audience would be young teenagers to late twenties, I would
see it as mainly female because of the colours and just the fact that it’s a
female singer with pop songs.
◦ Layout is seen as Ellie in the middle of the cover and her name in large font
at the top of the cover, the colour is blue which is different to the
background colour.
◦ The text is spread out and in capital letters clearly showing what is written.
7. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini – Only Human
◦ In this image you can clearly see that the artist is centre and facing forward
looking right at the audience. This could be signalling that she is stronger and
confident in her own body. You cant see her body however nothing is covering
her shoulders and so this could be showing that she isn’t wearing anything. Her
shoulders are bare and so this could mean she's confident in her own body.
◦ Down one side of her face there is a line straight down of a tiger in front of her
face. Making it look like she’s not fully human which is a contrast to the album
title ‘only human’.
◦ The text is spread out and clear, the artists name and the title of the CD are clear
and in the same font, its in capital letters and each letter is spread out.
◦ The genre of the music is seen as pop because it looks quite modern and it has
the main singer in the centre of the cover.
◦ The colours are very natural and her makeup is bold in natural colours.
◦ The audience are probably from teenage girls to older women, as Cheryl has
been around for a few years as she was in a popular pop girl group ‘girls allowed’
to then carry her career on as a solo artist.
