Developing the Lexical Acquistion of a Language
Acquisition of language is often a very difficult task that requires time and commitment. To learn
language one needs to focus and various aspects of language that include reading, writing, listening,
speaking, and pronunciation. Perhaps one of the most difficult and time consuming tasks that exist
in language learning is lexical acquisition. To accurately express oneself, a large lexical inventory is
required. Vocabulary learning is accomplished by many different methods; memorization and
multiple exposures are required and, in addition, one needs to learn a word's collocations and
syntactic constraints. There has been much research done that focuses on methods of teaching
vocabulary and extensive reading is one such method.
Extensive reading is a method of reading instruction where students are encouraged to read large
quantity of texts in order to promote understanding. There is also an underlying goal that involves
getting students to enjoy reading. There several aspects to extensive reading and principles have
even been given by certain researchers. In their article, Day & Bamford (2002) introduced 10
principles that are related to extensive reading. These principles include: the reading material must
be comprehensible, there must be a variety of material with many topics, the students have choice in
their reading material, the students read as much as possible, the purpose of reading should be for
pleasure and general understanding, the reading should be its

Brian Mulroney tied Canada closer to the United States On September 17th, 1984 Martin Brian
Mulroney became the 18th Prime Minister of Canada (see fig1).
Fig. 1. Brian Mulroney's first year in office (1984), he led the first conservative majority
government in 26 years.1
As the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, he developed a close relationship
with U.S President Ronald Regan; both men shared a similar conservative philosophy. As Canada's
Prime Minister, Mulroney sought closer ties with the United States, on issues such as trade policies
and North American Aerospace Defence Command system (NORAD). During the Mulroney era,
Canada saw drastic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Mulroney came to office in 1985, he dismantled the FIRA and replaced it with Investment
Canada, a new system which he believed would encourage suitable foreign investment. FIRA was
criticized by those who concerned about American economic influence, since it almost approved
every application it received. At the time, in some industries, such as the petroleum and rubber
products industries, foreign control exceeded ninety per cent. Over three–fourths of this control was
held by United Sates investors.6 These new and old policies brought better and higher rate of
business income between Canada and the United Sates, which resulted in closer ties between the
two countries. In 1987, Mulroney opened up negotiations that would eventually lead to the Free
Trade Agreement (FTA) between Canada and United States. The FTA was signed on October 4th,
1987 in hopes of improving trade transactions between the two countries (see fig2).

In the FTA, all tariffs on goods crossing the border were removed, and at the same time, opened
Canada to U.S investment and vice versa. As suspected, the free trade issue was highly controversial
among Canadians. Some Canadian businesses could not compete against U.S corporations, for these
corporations were able to flood

Why Was A Reformed Senate?
Senate reform has been a much–debated topic in Canada. Since the early 1970s, there have been at
least 28 major proposals for constitutional senate reform. All of them have failed. But once again,
thanks to the senate expenses scandal, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and his government have
proposed yet another reform. Would a reformed senate solve the current issues of the senate or
would it make it worse? This paper would discuss why a reformed senate would bring about more
problems than it will solve. The construct of my paper is basic. Firstly, I would be looking at the
Canadian senate, its roles and functions, and present and past problems. Next, I would look at some
senatorial reform proposals and what these various reforms all look to change. I shall conclude this
paper by providing my view on why a reformed senate would bring up more issues than it would
solve. The senate is viewed as a reflective body. It is often called the 'chamber of sober second
thought'. The Canadian senate is still one of the only ones in modern democracy not to have
undergone senatorial reform. This makes for the Canadian senate to "represent and embody some of
the most anti democratic features of representative assemblies" (Docherty pp.27). The senate is the
upper house of the parliament. It has 105 seats, distributed as fairly as possible amongst the various
provinces. Senators are appointed and this is the major reason for people wanting senatorial reform,
however the Canadian senate have

Regulatory Review Commission Case Analysis Essay
Regulatory Review Commission Inefficiencies in Operating the Operations Centre Executive
Summary Overview The Regulatory Review Commission's (R.R.C.) operations centre has recently
run into issues with handling an employee, Brian Coffey. Coffey's manager, Monique Ricard, is
contemplating how to handle Coffey's behaviour, who has been consistently late to work, is missing
deadlines, and even not showing up to work. Ricard is looking for an answer as to how she can
possibly terminate or transfer Coffey, as his behaviour has not been documented sufficiently.
Problems The R.R.C.'s problems stretch beyond just Coffey, but it may take an outside perspective
to notice them. While Coffey's behaviour is definitely an issue, it is an ... Show more content on

can meet all of its deadlines in a constructive atmosphere. Problems The problem needing the most
immediate attention is Coffey's behaviour and performance. Coffey consistently arrives at work late,
and takes extended breaks. Coffey has even gone so far as to set an alarm for when his breaks begin
and when he can go home. Coffey's tardiness reached a new pinnacle when he failed to show up to
work for a Monday and part of a Tuesday, without informing Ricard of his absence. The most
alarming concern Coffey poses to the R.R.C. is his attitude towards meeting deadlines. Consistently
Coffey either submits work just before or after the required deadlines for assignments. Ricard has
confronted Coffey several times about his behaviour, and Coffey, stubborn to change, refuses to
believe he needs to improve. Another major problem the R.R.C. is facing is an issue experienced by
many government offices. Job security is basically ensured at the R.R.C. and the process to
terminate an employee is extensive and time consuming. All efforts must be taken to first make a
reasonable effort to assist the employee in improving their performance. If the employee can't
perform the duties of their position, an effort must be made to move them to a position they are
capable of performing. If the employee is incompetent for any available position, only then can an
employee be terminated. The biggest issue comes when the employer needs to

Pros And Cons Of Brian Mulroney
Martin Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada and indeed a leader full of great
qualities (Sawatsky 7). Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who
harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party
and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history
through his socio–political, environmental and economic reforms. He had a powerful, tremendous
and symbolic impact on Canadian history, socio–politically by passing the Indian Act, the
Multiculturalism Act and introducing Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords., environmentally by
signing Air Quality Agreement, the Montreal Protocol and cancelling the National Energy Program

First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for
eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes
(Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases
of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised
unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST overcame
deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating revenues,
improving the competitive position of Canada's economy in the world and acting as an efficient way
for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified though the fact that
when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one–third, and GDP by 1.2%. Although it
was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at
the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability to deliver the promises he made in terms
of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning). Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade
Agreement with United States and North American Free Trade Agreement with the addition of
Mexico came as a great economic contribution to Canadian history as it marked the creation of the
largest free trade region in the world. With the elimination of tariff and non–tariff barriers, NAFTA
opened gates for Canada towards economic prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA
provided Canada access to the wider range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada's
productivity and allowed Canada to attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to
invest in the wide variety of natural resources, and. This also led to a huge burst in job opportunities

We barely managed to escape in time if it hadn't been for Sophie I wouldn't have made it. She pulled
me through that leygate thing and we went from Ojai, California to the church of Sacré–Coeur in

The Canadian Governing System is not Fair or Democratic...
There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens
who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe
that government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our
Canadian system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be
changed. Liberal–minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the
people better, and on the other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is
needed because our government is efficient and considerate. However, our voting system, our
Senate, and the power vested to the Prime Minister are far from democratic, do not ... Show more

It was obvious that he would make votes in favour of Chretien's aims. However, even with his
appointed position he only very rarely showed up for work, ignoring his basic obligations as
Senator. Even when the whole of the government was in outrage at this incompetence, they could
not legally kick him out of office. There will inevitably be more incidents like these unless the
Senate is reformed. Thankfully, there are several possible ways to reform the Senate as to make it a
more democratic institute.
The Senate, undemocratic as it is, obviously needs some tweaks and changes in the system to make
it more so. The Canadian Senate should reform entirely into a triple–E Senate (Elected, Efficient,
Equal). In the Triple E Senate, Senators should be elected by the voters instead of appointed, the
efficient distribution of power towards the Senate to balance out the power. This would create a
more democratic and fairer Senate that would better serve the needs of the citizens it represents.
While the Triple–E Senate may not get things done nearly as quickly as the current Senate, it would
at least make the right decisions for everyone. While the Senate is a major blight upon Canadian
government, it is not the only one.
The Canadian Prime Minister presents the illusion that this so–called democratic Canada is run by
the will of the people and attempts to maintain this image, yet the truth is that the power stays

My Experience In My Life
I remember my parents calling me up an hour before midnight telling me that they would be coming
home late from work. That was how I grew up my entire life until I entered high school. As an
immigrant family, my parents had to run the extra mile to provide for our family. I was the oldest of
my family. Therefore, I had to step up as the mother figure and to take care of my younger brother.
Sometimes, my friends would ask me to hang out with them or to come over my house. My answer
was no most of the time. I had a younger brother in the house who needed my help with his
homework. He couldn't feed himself so I had to feed him. I remember putting him to sleep one night
and just asking myself why I had to do this. I wanted to hang out with my friends and act like a child
that I was. I was an eleven–year–old who had to grow up because of the circumstances. And I did
not like that. As time passed by, my parents were settling in to this new surrounding and they began
to take some of their time off from work to spend time with me and my brother. Even then, there
were times where I had to take care of my brother because he couldn't be home alone.
But I remember this one moment that I shared with my brother. It was June, 2014, and my 8th grade
graduation was approaching. Going into my freshman year of high school, I was intimidated and so
overwhelmed with all the responsibilities that I had to take on. I sat down on my bed, contemplating
about my life and thinking about everything

Wedding Speech
"Beep! Beep! Beep!" My alarm clock only had to ring three times for me to turn it off and hop out
of bed that morning. The day before I had hit snooze twice refusing to get up, but today was
different, it held a special purpose. I pulled on my bathing suit, a pair of shorts, and a hoodie, and
ran down the steps into the kitchen. My mom was in her usual morning spot, in a big white chair off
the kitchen with her bible open, and her reading glasses on. On the table were two pieces of
cinnamon toast on a napkin for me she had prepared. My dad was standing at the sink filling two
water bottles, and was wearing his favorite green Patagonia board shorts.
"Ready to go?" my dad smiled.
"Yep!" I replied.

Plus, we were so excited to surf that we didn't think much of it. The Dingees played through the
speakers, a nineties ska band that my dad loved. Even though I didn't know exactly what the lead
singer was saying, I loved it because that's what he always played whenever we went to the beach.
The sun beamed through the clouds and down on the city as we drove over the thirty–fourth street
bridge, and made its way into our eyes forcing us to put down our sun visors.
My favorite kind of days were Daddy and Kate kind of days, especially the ones like these. The days
when we woke up early to go surfing with hot chocolate in hand, waves on our mind, and pure stoke
in our souls. To me, no other day could compare to days like these. We took small sips out of our
cardboard cups, and giggled with each other at stupid stuff on the way. There was always something
to laugh at when I was with him, whether it was a silly dad–joke or a game he had made up. This
time, we were making up phrases after the letters on the license plates of whatever car was in front
of ours.
"4 FAHL. What could that stand for?" we thought for a minute. "Four farting aliens having lunch!"
he blurted out. We laughed like crazy, and made up more all the way through Ocean City. Our home
beach was fifty–ninth street, but the waves were supposed to be better in Strathmere, so we decided
to try something new.
As we drove past our beach and over the bridge into Strathmere, I was in awe of a

SGT In Canada
In recent months, there has been a controversy over Sophie Gregoire Trudeau(SGT)'s comment.
According to SUN+, she said "I have three children and a husband who is prime minister. I need
help. I need a team to help me serve the people" (Alan, F. 2016). After telling such a comment to
Canadian government, SGT is being criticized by some people and politicians because she does not
have a official work as a Justin Trudeau(JT)'s wife as well as the role of first lady has no formal
status in Canada. That is why her opponents is expressing themselves uncomfortable about her
request. However, she is currently a spouse of JT, which means he makes her busier. In spite of the

According to Winnipeg Free Press, "Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife was roundly criticized for
stating she needs more help with her ceremonial duties. She reportedly receives many requests from
different charities and functions, and wants to attend them. With only one staff member and no
office at her disposal, it's clearly difficult to accomplish this" ( ~, 2016). For the reason above, SGT
is being overwhelmed by a number of works. However, people who are not in favor of her comment
claimed that there is no accurate system about first lady in Canada, and as such office is unnecessary
for SGT in that she is not a formal position. Having said that, it is false that politicians or
government just ignore her request because Mila Mulroney, who is a spouse of previous prime
minister Brian Mulroney, was fond of fashion and extravagant. Also, her prime minister opined that
"[I]f Mila ever had her credit card stolen, he wouldn't report it to police because the thief would
probably spend less on it than Mila" (Alan, F. 2016). Mila Mulroney even had her own office and
more staffers than SGT. Mila Mulroney stands in clear contrast to SGT. Consequently, SGT has a
right to remonstrate with the government about her personal office like Mila Mulroney had an office

Summary Of Brian Friel's 'Translations'
The play 'Translations' is set in a Gaelic–speaking, Hedge school in Northern Ireland, 1833. Brian
Friel explores the modernization affect individuals and communities that occurred as a result of the
conquering English language. He examines how language shapes reality, whilst questioning the
assumption that any two people can share the same reality; ideas can be translated between cultures
without necessarily being altered. The play offers a parable about the fate of a parochial attitude for
those who are not familiar with Irish history. Brain Friel is considered to be "concerned with the
nuances of both personal and cultural–national identity and its relation to colonial dispossession,
issues of home, language, tradition...' (Bertha 2006, 154). Friel writes a story of how one nation lost
its language, culture and literature as a result of being conquered by another. He explores the reasons
behind this loss and the ways in which society can overcome this sense of isolation.
There is a sense of forced assimilation through the loss of the Irish language, with the reoccurring
feeling of isolation appearing to be the result. A lack of mutual understanding is present between not
only the British and Irish but also the Irish themselves, for there are common disputes about
conforming to the English language. "The native language declined, not as an outcome of British
policy so much as because an entire generation of the Irish themselves decided no longer to speak it"

Quebec Independence Day Research Paper
100 years ago today, the votes came in for the Charlottetown Accord with 54.4% of Canadians
voting against it. This was yet another failed attempt to please Quebec, but it only made things
worse. With tensions remaining high between the French and English Canadians, there is still no
news of a third attempt, fearing that history will repeat itself. Canada can't afford another failure;
many think that it will push Quebec off the edge of become independent. Even though there are a lot
of Canadians who can't forget the past of Quebec, there are also many who don't understand why
this day is so significant. In order to explain that, we need to go back in time to the late 1900s. One

Thinking that this would satisfy almost everyone, Levesque anticipated a lot of support; however,
he's never been so wrong. On May 20, 1980, 90% of Quebec voters came out to cast their vote.
59.5% votes were against the sovereignty–association and the referendum became lost. To try and
fix what was broken, the government came up with the Meech Lake Accord. In 1985, there were
many political changes that occurred in Quebec and federally. Federally, Trudeau was replaced by
Brian Mulroney. In Quebec, Moderate Liberal Robert Bourassa was replaced by Rene Levesque.
Mulroney promised when he got elected, that he would bring Quebec into the Constitution (the
supreme law in Canada). He held many meetings to talk about the constitutional problems. In April
1987, there were constitutional changes made that satisfied Quebec's concerns and both the PM and
10 provincial premiers agreed to these changes. This happened at Meech Lake, near Ottawa. Some
of these changes included that all provinces were able to nominate candidates, opt out of federal cost
sharing, have the right to veto any constitutional change, and that Quebec would be seen as a
"distinct society", with their own legal, culture and language

Question 7 – Look at some data for a child at the one–word stage of development (this could be
video data for the CHILDES database, or observational/diary data you have collected from a child to
whom you have access; the contextual function of one–word utterances can be hard to perceive in

Apply Greenfield and Smith's analysis, based on the uses of holophrases, to this data. Remember

After this, he believed that nouns are used significantly more than any other word class/type. In
contrast to this, Greenfield and Smith found that before the age of 1.6 years, children were more
likely to use indicative and volitional expressions. From this research, I can look at if there are any
of these expression examples within my data.
Children's initial declarative utterances can be about shared, specific referents and aimed at focusing
the listeners attention on something new, that has not been previously mentioned. This is from the
egocentric child point of view, (Greenfield and Smith 1976.) The communicative function of the
utterance can give a strong idea of the child's aspect of reality, for example, imperative and
interrogative functions. They may not be well differentiated from a referential–type utterance.

Why Is Brian Mulroney Powerful
Throughout Canadian history there have been many influential political leaders in the past, but none
as powerful or significant as Brian Mulroney. Through political criticism, Brian Mulroney served as
the longest Prime Minister in Canada. All together Brian Mulroney was one of the best Prime
Ministers, but he was just misunderstood. He gave Canada Free Trade, which secured our economic
prosperity.
Brian Mulroney signed the Nunavut Settlement Agreement to secure Canada as a better country and
a better place to live. The settlement consisted of two things. The 1st thing that the settlement was
consisting of was the Arctic Islands and mainland Eastern Island. The 2nd thing the settlement
consisted of was the Belcher Island, and its association with the marine areas. The agreement that
was signed on July 9, 1993 was to create the new territory Nunavut which was established as a

The rise of Kim Campbell as Canada's first female Prime Minister is considered by many to be that
of a phenomenon. Webster's Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of significant
or rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a local Vancouver
School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this success was
dependent on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in contemporary terms
as being a male dominated area of profession. Politics, especially in Canada and the United States

This failure was not due to inability, but instead due to her growing ambition to further her career
possibilities. When she was given the opportunity to succeed in a field of interest, she jumped at the

All Creatures Great And Small By James Herriot
Introduction
All Creatures Great and Small was James Herriot's first book to be published in the United States. In
this book, the mature Herriot tells about his youthful self, when he graduated from veterinary school
and began working in rural veterinary practice. The narrator like the reader is able to laugh at his
naïveté of Herriot, as well as at the people who surround him, including Siegfried Farnon, and his
brother, Tristan Farnon. This memoir of James Herriot flashes the simple and laid back lives of the
countryside folks. It exhibits their struggles, cultures, etiquette, hardships and relationships. The
stories that are depicted in this book is loosely based on Herriot 's life as a young veterinarian in the
rough English countryside pre–WWII. There he encounters many different people and animals from
dogs and cats to livestock.
From the first day of Herriot 's arrival at Skeldale House, being greeted by a troop of leaping,
barking dogs, to the week of tuberculin testing that brings the book to a close, we share the moments
of joy, laughter, tears, nerves, confidence, mix–ups, and triumphs involved in his Yorkshire
veterinary practice of the 1930s. We meet the eccentric Siegfried Farnon and the carefree Tristan
Farnon and many interesting people around the Dales, not to mention those marvellous animals who
shall live on just like the human characters. I mean who could ever forget Tricki–Woo and Nugent

sleep in peace without her trying to be Maddy. Josh states a point that Ella will never understand, yet
she looks around it. "That's not true," Ella said. There was no way that could be true. Mom adored
Maddy. She went to her field hockey games, every one of them. She had pictures of Maddy lining
her bureau and went out of her way to buy the healthy crap MAddy insisted on eating." "Are you
saying that if she had a choice, your mom would've chosen your sister, over you? If you honestly
believe that, then you're an idiot."(Chapter 27,pg.193) Ella doesn't seem to realize the jealousy in the
tone when she goes on and on about how Maddy was more loved and how her mom did love her
more. However, all of the examples Ella listed were true, only because Maddy updated her parents
on what was happening in her life and let her mom take picture of her and Ella never did any of
those things, but keep secrets from her parents, locked away. Ella doesn't want to take the chance to

The Emergence of Surf Music Essays
The Emergence of Surf Music
Many different music styles emerged during the early 1960's. One of these music styles that was
perhaps the most prominent music style to ever come out of Southern California was Surf Music.
Surf music was a short–lived phenomenon that occurred from 1961 to 1965 (Nostalgia, 2002).
Along with the surf music craze, Hollywood also started producing numerous movies about surfing,
including Gidget, and Endless Summer (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003 and Nostalgia, 2002). These
movies had some amazing soundtracks that helped popularize the surf music phenomenon. There
are two different forms of surf music; instrumental and vocal (Holm, 1998 and St. James
Encyclopedia, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, let's start with the innovator of surf music and the king of the surf guitar; Dick Dale. Dick was
originally from Boston, but he moved to Southern California when he was seventeen (Wikipedia,
2003). While in California, he became popular for his country guitar playing. At the same time, he
was spending a lot of time with the surfers on the beaches in California. He immediately became
intrigued by the spirit of the surf culture, and the splendor of the ocean waves. He began
experimenting with his music, trying to capture the rhythm and sounds of the ocean. He formed the
group Dick Dale and the Del–tones in 1961 (Wikipedia, 2003 and Bettenville). His live
performances became a huge local draw, and his double picking guitar style was admired by many
(even Leo Fender who asked him to test some of his new amplifier prototypes with the notion that if
his amplifiers could survive Dick Dale's playing, they could survive anything) (Bettenville). At the
end of 1961, he released his first single, "Let's Go Trippin'," which is considered to be the first surf
rock recording (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003). He followed that recording with a few more locally–
released songs, including "Jungle Fever" and "Surf Beat"

Analysis Of Martin Luther King And Malcolm X
In his inaugural address on August 9th, 1974, President Gerald Ford assured the nation "our long
national nightmare is over." He may have spoken too soon. The early 1970s were a bleak time for
black America. So much hope had died with the assassination of Martin Luther King and Malcolm
X in the late 60's. There were revolts in urban communities across the United States and brutal
encounters with the police (McTernan). Much has been written about the state of the nation in the
70's but something extraordinary came out of the fire, music. The music of New York City amid this
time is a transformational and essential foundation for the birth of new music. The funky, groove
beats of jazz and the seductive, energetic sound of salsa erupted in ... Show more content on

After about two years at Lincoln, Scott–Heron took a year off from an unconventional college career
to write the novels The Vulture and The Nigger Factory, "inspired by some of the anger and
resentment Gil felt about Lincoln and the tumult reverberating on other campuses (Baram)." He
received esteemed recognition for the publication of The Vulture but he still enjoyed poetry and
performing. By the start of the decade, he realized that he could combine his charged messages with
poetry to funk beats to create a new sound. From this revelation, many of his poems transformed
into lyrics for songs that he composed with Brian. But thanks in large part to the success of his first
book of poetry, Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, Scott–Heron was introduced to producer Bob Thiele,
who had worked with legendary jazz artists from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane. Thiele
encouraged Scott–Heron to perform his poetry, and for his debut release, Small Talk at 125th and
Lenox, recorded him reciting over an ensemble of percussionists. Most influential on the album was
"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," an "aggressive polemic against the major media" and
"white America 's ignorance of increasingly deteriorating conditions in the inner cities (Bush)."
Based on the dichotomy between the commercials on television and the marches in the streets not

Analysis Of ' The Pearls On A String '
Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most interesting
was Akbar and 'Abd al–Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586–1589). It is amazing to
see how many different scenes can all occur in one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple
outstanding pieces but the emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I
did not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt's technique is
spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a young Abdul
Rahim Khan–I–Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. A great story is told
throughout the entire book, although this particular image has more of an intensity to it. This page
functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma 'Abd al–Rahim must have
felt having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed
subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to some men
appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is taller than
wide with a beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is harmonious in every
way possible. In paying attention to the placement more emphasis is put onto the central area of the
painting. The frame compliments the shape of the piece allowing it to bring your focus back after

Bali 9 Clock Ticks Analysis
Written by Cindy Wockner, the Bali 9 Clock Ticks newspaper article appearing in the Herald Sun
serves as a neat, professional update on the predicament of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.
Written in typical newspaper fashion, the article underlies themes of desperation, hopelessness and
fear in a detached string of paragraphs. The article catches our attention with a suspenseful,
desperate title – Bali 9 Clock Ticks. The phrase 'Clock Ticks' paints a picture in our minds of time
running out, and having to do something drastic before it's too late. This theme of despair is
continuously highlighted throughout the text through phrases such as "all but in their executioners'
crosshairs", "effectively signing his death warrant", "the end is nigh", and "quickly running out of
options". The audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next story, again regarding a woman, is made to push us into a position of anger rather than
regret, preparing us for the greater injustices to come later in the text. Wockner casually details how
another woman's "co–accursed – including the drug ring mastermind – won clemency back in
2012." Wockner is subtly showing us the unjustness of the legal system, in the example of a woman
who was simply a pawn being sentenced to death while her boss is set free. Anecdotes like this
appeal to our sense of justice, inciting feelings of rage towards those who caused the injustice – in
this case, the Indonesian

Gender In The Bohemian Rhapsody
The 'Bohemian Rhapsody' from QUEEN was written in 1975, and re–released in 1991. The author
was Freddie Mercury. This literary work is very interesting for me examined by psychological
approach. The entire text has a male centred structure, the dominant persona is male. There are
several names and characterizations such as 'poor boy', 'killed a man', 'Galileo'. All of these
references show the dominant gender in the text. Although there is a less strong female presence as
well such as 'mama' and 'mama mia'.(The English studies book– introduction to language, literature
and culture, second edition– Rob Pope). It is possible to gain up the text and the author's relation in
different ways. First of all, it is important to know that the author, ... Show more content on

He honestly starts with owning up a murder made by him. In my opinion, if the text is checked with
trying to understand his background, it can be construct as admit of his own rambunctiously life. "I
killed a man. Put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger. Now he is dead." As a broad
interpretation it explains his sickness, made with the wild life what he lived. He tells with the
metaphor that he went too far, he just killed himself with a gun. He realizes that his life is
dangerously approaching to its end that he has just started now. He is feeling the weight of his
words. He starts to apologize for what he disbosom. He feels that this self–revelation is too factual.
He says "my time has come", like he resigned his fate. There is a big hesitation from the author. He
just making paradoxes with stating first that he is desperate and second that he is absolutely resigned
his fate. The big confused feeling is growing. He closes the second part with another paradoxical
state. He unmask his fear from death, he do not want to die. Vice versa at the last sentence of this
second part he says "I sometimes wish I'd never born at all." He chooses literarily the death, but

The Breakfast Club : A Group Role In The Breakfast Club
1)A group role is the part a member plays in a group, as a function of your traits, personality, your

great influence in the problems of the group, mostly by Bender making fun of here, and everyone

such as clarifying. She would state to Bender who was always being mean to her should sit down

would even showcase maintenance roles such as harmonizing and relieving tension. When bender
would make a messing by being outlandish she'll tell him to shut up and be quite and when here and
bender were alone in the closet they would take to each other and as well exchange a hickey, but one
of the greatest roles she played was the withdrawing role. When Bender and Allison were pressuring

of them finding out. She did eventually say that she was a virgin but was heavy pressure by the

"Speaking of drunk, I have wine in my room. Shall we indulge? I've never seen you have more than
a few sips, Maxen."
He propped himself up on his elbows and kissed her. "I will drink. Let me dress and fetch the
bottle."
He hopped out of bed, and Audra admired his magnificent, muscular backside with a satisfied smile
on her face and he slipped into his trousers, but the spotted a smear of blood on his lower arm.
"Maxen, you're still bleeding."
"Nothing to worry about." He dragged his tunic over his head and glanced over his shoulder at her.
"But oh..."
"What?"
"I've gotten my blood all over that pretty face of yours."
Maxen sat on the bed beside Audra, licked his thumb, and scrubbed the dried blood from her face.
Then he leaned down and kissed her.
"I don't want to stop kissing you or touching you," he said.
"I think we can break for refreshment."
He let out a playful growl. "I don't want to, but I will."
After giving Audra another long kiss, he rose and padded from the room, and Audra stretched out in
the bed. She was relaxed and in love, and she pushed away any feelings of guilt. Those could be
managed later. During this week, Maxen would be the husband of her heart, and if the gods saw fit
to strike her down for her transgressions, it would all be worth it.
Maxen's quiet footsteps padded back to the room; however, an unfamiliar voice spoke just outside
the chamber door.
"Sir Knight, would you and the queen care to share in the festivities downstairs? You are most
welcome."

Brian Friel's "Translations" Essay
Brian Friel's "Translations"
'Translations', by Brian Friel, presents us with an idyllic rural community turned on its head as the
result of the recording and translation of place names into English; an action which is at first sight
purely administrative. In Act 1 of the play, Friel brings together the inhabitants of this quaint Irish
village in what can only be described as a gathering of minds – minds which study the classics, yet
minds which study dead languages. In the same way, while this community is rich in culture and
togetherness, it is also trapped in what is later described as a "contour which no longer matches the
landscape of…fact". Thus, in expressing his ambivalence, Friel presents the reader with a ... Show

The first time Hugh speaks in the play, he greets his class with the line "Vesperal salutations to you
all", illustrating perfectly the grasp which he has of the Irish language.
Furthermore, he is fluent in other languages as well, and has the tendency to say phrases in Latin
and Greek before asking members of his class to translate them into Irish. He even has some
knowledge of the connotations and etymology of words – at the start of the play, he says (in
reference to the derivation of the word 'baptise'), "Indeed – our friend Pliny Minor speaks of the
'baptisterium' – the cold bath".
Even Manus, Hugh's son, is intelligent. Near the start of the play, we hear him describe how "Biddy
Hanna sent for me to write a letter to her sister in Nova Scotia". The fact that Manus is capable of
speaking
English, despite living in Ireland, displays his knowledge of language. Furthermore, he works in the
hedge–school, therefore clearly has the knowledge and ability to teach, while the stage directions at
the start of the play describe his attitude towards his work as zealous – he is not only intelligent, but
enthusiastic.
Inevitably, not everyone in Baile Beag is up to the standards of Hugh,
Jimmy Jack and Manus, yet we get the impression that those less–capable members of the hedge–
school are still willing to learn.
Both Bridget and Doalty, two characters who provide the play with many of its comedic moments,
are portrayed as less intelligent, yet we see

The Usefulness Of The Canadian Senate
David C. Docherty's scholarly journal responds to the continual controversy and debate of the
usefulness of the Canadian senate in 2002. Docherty's article does an amazing job at analyzing the
current Canadian senate and argues that the senate is a failing Canadian institution because of two
democratic deficiencies: the undemocratic nature of senator selection and the inability of senators to
represent provinces properly (45). These two features of why the senate is a failing Canadian
institution can be compared to how Rand Dyck defines democracy in Canadian Politics: Critical
Approaches. Docherty looks at several previous senate reforms and answers the question of why
these senate reforms failed, in doing so Docherty lays down a framework for a possible successful
senate reform but acknowledges the obstacles. Docherty does a very good job at accessing the
problem of the senate, accessing the problem of previous reforms, and suggesting a plausible type of
reform for the senate. This provides the reader with the knowledge of why the Canadian senate is a
failing institution but also the possible solutions of how the senate can be reformed in order to
maximize its democratic potential. Although, Docherty fails to provide an exact reform that needs to
be taken, he just draws upon other failures and hypothesis that this may be the right solution for
reform. Rand Dyck's chapter 11 fills in the missing gap of reform that needs to be taken by drawing
upon one of the best attempts at

The Free Trade Agreement
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial
documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was
because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA
were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the
amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA
were failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada,
which was one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final
reason the deal failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada
but really did nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of
Canadians and hindered many more.
The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime
Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest
election win in Canadian history. When he was re–elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead
with the FTA which was implemented at midnight on January 1st 1989. Before Mulroney brought
the FTA to the table he was thought of as the best Prime Minister Canada had ever elected. After the
FTA and NAFTA, Mulroney was said to be

Non Fiscal Barriers And The Free Movement Of The European...
This question concerns non–fiscal barriers to the free movement of goods in the European Union.
Issues concerning Articles 34,35 or 36 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union
(TFEU) are raised and Brian's potential claim is against France as the Member State who has
enacted measures which may restrict imports and exports, thereby violating the Treaty. Firstly,
considering the licence required by French legislation to import PS's, this could amount to a selling
arrangement which is defined in the case of Keck as rules that concern who sells the product and
when, where and how they go about it. Those selling arrangements which apply equally in law and
fact will not invoke Article 34 TFEU. As the product, the PS, in not directly affected, the
requirement of a licence may be a selling arrangement . However the selling arrangement does not
apply equally in law and fact because there is no licence requirement mentioned for domestic
producers of PSs . As the licence discriminates against imports, this may invoke Article 34 and it is
likely to be a measure equivalent to a quantitative restriction (MEQR). MEQRs were defined in
Dessonville as "All trading rules capable of hindering, directly or indirectly, actually or potentially,
intra–Community trade" . In other words, an MEQR applies only to imports and not to everyone. As
the licence is an additional requirement for imported PSs, and applications are only considered once
a year in August, it makes imports more

Language, Not Politics Or History Essay
Brian Friel correctly claims that Translations is a play that emphasizes language, not politics or
history. This story takes place in a rural Gaelic–speaking town in Ireland and focuses on the
interactions between Irish and English folk. These conversations end up to be a series of
'mistranslations'. Throughout the plot of this play, Friel proves that a person's identity comes from
language alone. Understanding the politics and history of a play merely explains the factual
framework of the story, but does not facilitate the reader to make inferences about the underlying
meaning and purpose of the play like language does.
The setting lends an important historical context to the play, but language tied with culture helps to
unravel the meaning behind the play. This play is set in 1833, a time when, an Irish town, Ballybeg,
is in the beginning phases of British colonization. The British imperial rule introduces the Ordnance
Survey, which is mapped by "Lieutenant Yolland– ... [Royal Engineer]..." (405) in the story, to
anglicize Ireland. Yolland, a British Royal Engineer, is a dynamic character who is a paragon for
proving that language is an integral part of one's identity. Though knowing this historical context of
the war sheds light on Yolland's background and occupation (factual information), it does not give
insight on his true feelings for his job and cultural heritage. He is a British soldier who originally
works "with the East India Company" but "unfortunately...misse[s]

Family Guy by Seth Mcfarlene
Family guy is an American adult sitcom created by Seth Mcfarlene for the Fox Broadcasting
company. The series centers on the Griffins, a family consisting of parents, Peter and Lois, their
children Meg, Chris, and Stewie, and their anthropomorphic dog, Brian. The show is set in the
fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island and exhibits much of its humor in the form of cutaway gags
that often lampoon the American culture. Contrary to its title, this isn't a family show
The most intelligent members of the family are the dog, Brian, and the infant, Stewie–which might
set off an alarm in terms of inappropriate role modeling.
There is frequent sexual innuendo and salty language (Ex: "Bitch", "damn")
Drinking and violence played for humor
The Parents Television Council, a conservative non–profit group has attempted to have the show
cancelled through campaigns due to reasons of profanity, animated nudity and violence.
Sociological Perspective on Race & Ethnicity
Race may be defined as a group of people who have been identified as having real or alleged

on November 21st. You and I must not allow Mr. Mulroney to sell us out, to reverse 120 years of
Canadian history, to destroy the Canadian dream."(6–7) The first part of this statement sounds very
much like the stance any (small–c) conservative would normally argue, trying desperately to hold on
to the past, slowing down change and progression, as well as the blatant opposition of closer ties
with the US. These sentiments are reiterated 14 years after the fact in Uncle Same and US, in which
author Stephen Clarkson makes the case that we are slowly slipping away from our spirit of
nationality, and that the combination of cultural, technological, social and political factors have
heralded our apparently seamless integration into the American economy. Mulroney 's change of
heart, coupled with Prime Minister Trudeau leading the Liberals towards economic nationalism
during his tenure, resulted in what seems to be an unusual reversal of the traditional stances of each
of the parties, marking the

Growing Up Research Paper
Growing up in Theresa was an experience that will live with me until the day I die. Theresa is a
town with a population of roughly 2,000 people and it is very rural. Theresa is a blue collar
community where everyone works hard and everyone plays hard. I saw this 24/7 at home. It was a
small town. Everyone knew what was going on with everything in the town. The town of Theresa
was basically one giant family. I went to school their from Kindergarten through 4th grade. The
school was three blocks from my house and I would walk to school and back every single day. I
usually had people who would walk with me. Some of those people I am still friends with to this
very day. This was were I got my very first taste of school and first taste of friendship. One friend
that I have made in Theresa is standing up in my wedding in July. Growing up their was a blessing
for so many reasons. Probably for reasons I may realize later in life. ... Show more content on

Downtown there is the local shell gas station. It is a fairly dated gas station, but they make due with
what they have. There is a sandwich shop inside, along with multiple varieties of coffee. I remember
my dad going there every day before work to get his cup of coffee. There were three parks in town
and one of them was one block away from my house. I once fell off the slide at this park and was
sent to the emergency room. I stayed away from that park for a while after that. The park was a hot
spot for kids of all ages. This park was right next to the public school that I attended until 4th grade.
My house was also right off a river that leads right into the Mississippi. The river is a great place to
fish and kayak. I caught many fish in the river, usually alongside my dad and my sister. The town
dump was sometimes a fun place to go. People would bring things that they no longer used or
needed there. People would go and search through the stuff and bring home was they

Argumentative Essay On The Fault In Our Stars
That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt. In Indianapolis, poor Hazel Grace Lancaster has to
go through that every day. Hazel has Thyroid cancer and it affects her everyday life. However, when
Gus came into her life, her view on the world changed forever. John Green, the author of The Fault
In Our Stars, uses dialogue to elaborate on the theme of being there for someone through the good
and bad moments. Throughout the book, Hazel and Gus show that sometimes just being there for
each other could mean the world to them, even when there are no words needing to be said. For
example, Gus and Hazel's conversation on the phone after their first date. In the text it states "Okay,"
he said. "I gotta go to sleep. It's almost one." "Okay," I said. "Okay," he said. I giggled and said,
"Okay." And then the line was quiet but not dead. I almost felt like he was there in my room with
me, but in a way, it was better, like I was not in my room and he was not in his, but instead, we were
together in some invisible and tenuous third space that could only be visited on the phone. "Okay,"
he said after forever. "Maybe okay will be our always." "Okay," I said."(Green 72–73) As mentioned
previously, you don't have to have conversations to be there for someone. This shows that they are
perfectly fine together, even when there are no words needing to be said. Also, when you have
devotedness tord someone that much just knowing that you are sincere and ready to talk to anytime,
anywhere, is incredible. Near the end of the book, Gus had died from cancer and a funeral was held.
Doleful Hazel arrived and this is what happened... "As I knelt, I realized they'd closed his eyes –of
course they had– and that I would never again see his blue eyes. "I love you present tense," I
whispered and then put my hand in the middle of his chest and said, "It's okay, Gus.It's okay. It is.
It's okay, you hear me?" I had –and have– absolutely no confidence that he could hear me. I leaned
forward and kissed his cheek. "Okay," I said. "Okay." (Green 270) This piece of text shows that
even when Gus was lifeless, she was still there for him by saying "Okay".Although she was in great
distress, she stood with courage. By saying "Okay." she, in a

Developing The Lexical Acquistion Of A Language

  • 1. Developing the Lexical Acquistion of a Language Acquisition of language is often a very difficult task that requires time and commitment. To learn language one needs to focus and various aspects of language that include reading, writing, listening, speaking, and pronunciation. Perhaps one of the most difficult and time consuming tasks that exist in language learning is lexical acquisition. To accurately express oneself, a large lexical inventory is required. Vocabulary learning is accomplished by many different methods; memorization and multiple exposures are required and, in addition, one needs to learn a word's collocations and syntactic constraints. There has been much research done that focuses on methods of teaching vocabulary and extensive reading is one such method. Extensive reading is a method of reading instruction where students are encouraged to read large quantity of texts in order to promote understanding. There is also an underlying goal that involves getting students to enjoy reading. There several aspects to extensive reading and principles have even been given by certain researchers. In their article, Day & Bamford (2002) introduced 10 principles that are related to extensive reading. These principles include: the reading material must be comprehensible, there must be a variety of material with many topics, the students have choice in their reading material, the students read as much as possible, the purpose of reading should be for pleasure and general understanding, the reading should be its ... Shi Mr. E Vanee Social Studies 11 18 July 2014 Brian Mulroney tied Canada closer to the United States On September 17th, 1984 Martin Brian Mulroney became the 18th Prime Minister of Canada (see fig1). Fig. 1. Brian Mulroney's first year in office (1984), he led the first conservative majority government in 26 years.1 As the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, he developed a close relationship with U.S President Ronald Regan; both men shared a similar conservative philosophy. As Canada's Prime Minister, Mulroney sought closer ties with the United States, on issues such as trade policies and North American Aerospace Defence Command system (NORAD). During the Mulroney era, Canada saw drastic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Mulroney came to office in 1985, he dismantled the FIRA and replaced it with Investment Canada, a new system which he believed would encourage suitable foreign investment. FIRA was criticized by those who concerned about American economic influence, since it almost approved every application it received. At the time, in some industries, such as the petroleum and rubber products industries, foreign control exceeded ninety per cent. Over three–fourths of this control was held by United Sates investors.6 These new and old policies brought better and higher rate of business income between Canada and the United Sates, which resulted in closer ties between the two countries. In 1987, Mulroney opened up negotiations that would eventually lead to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Canada and United States. The FTA was signed on October 4th, 1987 in hopes of improving trade transactions between the two countries (see fig2). Fig. 2. President Ronald Reagan (left) signing the FTA with Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney (right)7 In the FTA, all tariffs on goods crossing the border were removed, and at the same time, opened Canada to U.S investment and vice versa. As suspected, the free trade issue was highly controversial among Canadians. Some Canadian businesses could not compete against U.S corporations, for these corporations were able to flood ... • 5. Why Was A Reformed Senate? Senate reform has been a much–debated topic in Canada. Since the early 1970s, there have been at least 28 major proposals for constitutional senate reform. All of them have failed. But once again, thanks to the senate expenses scandal, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and his government have proposed yet another reform. Would a reformed senate solve the current issues of the senate or would it make it worse? This paper would discuss why a reformed senate would bring about more problems than it will solve. The construct of my paper is basic. Firstly, I would be looking at the Canadian senate, its roles and functions, and present and past problems. Next, I would look at some senatorial reform proposals and what these various reforms all look to change. I shall conclude this paper by providing my view on why a reformed senate would bring up more issues than it would solve. The senate is viewed as a reflective body. It is often called the 'chamber of sober second thought'. The Canadian senate is still one of the only ones in modern democracy not to have undergone senatorial reform. This makes for the Canadian senate to "represent and embody some of the most anti democratic features of representative assemblies" (Docherty pp.27). The senate is the upper house of the parliament. It has 105 seats, distributed as fairly as possible amongst the various provinces. Senators are appointed and this is the major reason for people wanting senatorial reform, however the Canadian senate have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regulatory Review Commission Case Analysis Essay Regulatory Review Commission Inefficiencies in Operating the Operations Centre Executive Summary Overview The Regulatory Review Commission's (R.R.C.) operations centre has recently run into issues with handling an employee, Brian Coffey. Coffey's manager, Monique Ricard, is contemplating how to handle Coffey's behaviour, who has been consistently late to work, is missing deadlines, and even not showing up to work. Ricard is looking for an answer as to how she can possibly terminate or transfer Coffey, as his behaviour has not been documented sufficiently. Problems The R.R.C.'s problems stretch beyond just Coffey, but it may take an outside perspective to notice them. While Coffey's behaviour is definitely an issue, it is an ... Coffey consistently arrives at work late, and takes extended breaks. Coffey has even gone so far as to set an alarm for when his breaks begin and when he can go home. Coffey's tardiness reached a new pinnacle when he failed to show up to work for a Monday and part of a Tuesday, without informing Ricard of his absence. The most alarming concern Coffey poses to the R.R.C. is his attitude towards meeting deadlines. Consistently Coffey either submits work just before or after the required deadlines for assignments. Ricard has confronted Coffey several times about his behaviour, and Coffey, stubborn to change, refuses to believe he needs to improve. Another major problem the R.R.C. is facing is an issue experienced by many government offices. Job security is basically ensured at the R.R.C. and the process to terminate an employee is extensive and time consuming. All efforts must be taken to first make a reasonable effort to assist the employee in improving their performance. If the employee can't perform the duties of their position, an effort must be made to move them to a position they are capable of performing. If the employee is incompetent for any available position, only then can an employee be terminated. The biggest issue comes when the employer needs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Brian Mulroney Martin Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada and indeed a leader full of great qualities (Sawatsky 7). Born in a small town in Quebec, Mulroney was a bilingual Anglophone who harbored a tremendous political ambition (22). He belonged to the Progressive Conservative party and came to power in 1984 (Parker 22). Mulroney significantly affected the Canadian history through his socio–political, environmental and economic reforms. He had a powerful, tremendous and symbolic impact on Canadian history, socio–politically by passing the Indian Act, the Multiculturalism Act and introducing Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords., environmentally by signing Air Quality Agreement, the Montreal Protocol and cancelling the National Energy Program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the introduction of Goods and Services Tax by Mulroney built the foundation for eliminating federal deficit, which occurs when the government spends more money than it makes (Parker 22). Deficit increased the selling off of the capital assets in Canada to finance the purchases of slowly diminishing goods and services, which undermined future production and raised unemployment rates and inflation (Swatsky 309). Not only did the introduction of GST overcame deficit by a significant amount, it also proved to be an important source of generating revenues, improving the competitive position of Canada's economy in the world and acting as an efficient way for managing the country (Good and Bad sides of GST). This could be justified though the fact that when Mulroney introduced the GST, the revenues grew by one–third, and GDP by 1.2%. Although it was not enough to stop deficit at first, it did slow it down and eventually hauled it (Coyne). But at the same time, his attempt to stop deficit limited his ability to deliver the promises he made in terms of services and infrastructures.(Info base Learning). Secondly, the signing off the Free Trade Agreement with United States and North American Free Trade Agreement with the addition of Mexico came as a great economic contribution to Canadian history as it marked the creation of the largest free trade region in the world. With the elimination of tariff and non–tariff barriers, NAFTA opened gates for Canada towards economic prosperity and growth. With no imposed taxes, NAFTA provided Canada access to the wider range of Mexican and U.S markets, expanding Canada's productivity and allowed Canada to attract more U.S investors, firms and companies to Canada, to invest in the wide variety of natural resources, and. • 13. The Canadian Governing System is not Fair or Democratic... There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe that government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our Canadian system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be changed. Liberal–minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the people better, and on the other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is needed because our government is efficient and considerate. However, our voting system, our Senate, and the power vested to the Prime Minister are far from democratic, do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was obvious that he would make votes in favour of Chretien's aims. However, even with his appointed position he only very rarely showed up for work, ignoring his basic obligations as Senator. Even when the whole of the government was in outrage at this incompetence, they could not legally kick him out of office. There will inevitably be more incidents like these unless the Senate is reformed. Thankfully, there are several possible ways to reform the Senate as to make it a more democratic institute. The Senate, undemocratic as it is, obviously needs some tweaks and changes in the system to make it more so. The Canadian Senate should reform entirely into a triple–E Senate (Elected, Efficient, Equal). In the Triple E Senate, Senators should be elected by the voters instead of appointed, the efficient distribution of power towards the Senate to balance out the power. This would create a more democratic and fairer Senate that would better serve the needs of the citizens it represents. While the Triple–E Senate may not get things done nearly as quickly as the current Senate, it would at least make the right decisions for everyone. While the Senate is a major blight upon Canadian government, it is not the only one. The Canadian Prime Minister presents the illusion that this so–called democratic Canada is run by the will of the people and attempts to maintain this image, yet the truth is that the power stays ... • 15. My Experience In My Life I remember my parents calling me up an hour before midnight telling me that they would be coming home late from work. That was how I grew up my entire life until I entered high school. As an immigrant family, my parents had to run the extra mile to provide for our family. I was the oldest of my family. Therefore, I had to step up as the mother figure and to take care of my younger brother. Sometimes, my friends would ask me to hang out with them or to come over my house. My answer was no most of the time. I had a younger brother in the house who needed my help with his homework. He couldn't feed himself so I had to feed him. I remember putting him to sleep one night and just asking myself why I had to do this. I wanted to hang out with my friends and act like a child that I was. I was an eleven–year–old who had to grow up because of the circumstances. And I did not like that. As time passed by, my parents were settling in to this new surrounding and they began to take some of their time off from work to spend time with me and my brother. Even then, there were times where I had to take care of my brother because he couldn't be home alone. But I remember this one moment that I shared with my brother. It was June, 2014, and my 8th grade graduation was approaching. Going into my freshman year of high school, I was intimidated and so overwhelmed with all the responsibilities that I had to take on. I sat down on my bed, contemplating about my life and thinking about everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The day before I had hit snooze twice refusing to get up, but today was different, it held a special purpose. I pulled on my bathing suit, a pair of shorts, and a hoodie, and ran down the steps into the kitchen. My mom was in her usual morning spot, in a big white chair off the kitchen with her bible open, and her reading glasses on. On the table were two pieces of cinnamon toast on a napkin for me she had prepared. The sun beamed through the clouds and down on the city as we drove over the thirty–fourth street bridge, and made its way into our eyes forcing us to put down our sun visors. My favorite kind of days were Daddy and Kate kind of days, especially the ones like these. The days when we woke up early to go surfing with hot chocolate in hand, waves on our mind, and pure stoke in our souls. To me, no other day could compare to days like these. We took small sips out of our cardboard cups, and giggled with each other at stupid stuff on the way. Having said that, it is false that politicians or government just ignore her request because Mila Mulroney, who is a spouse of previous prime minister Brian Mulroney, was fond of fashion and extravagant. • 21. Summary Of Brian Friel's 'Translations' The play 'Translations' is set in a Gaelic–speaking, Hedge school in Northern Ireland, 1833. Brian Friel explores the modernization affect individuals and communities that occurred as a result of the conquering English language. He examines how language shapes reality, whilst questioning the assumption that any two people can share the same reality; ideas can be translated between cultures without necessarily being altered. The play offers a parable about the fate of a parochial attitude for those who are not familiar with Irish history. Brain Friel is considered to be "concerned with the nuances of both personal and cultural–national identity and its relation to colonial dispossession, issues of home, language, tradition...' (Bertha 2006, 154). Friel writes a story of how one nation lost its language, culture and literature as a result of being conquered by another. He explores the reasons behind this loss and the ways in which society can overcome this sense of isolation. There is a sense of forced assimilation through the loss of the Irish language, with the reoccurring feeling of isolation appearing to be the result. A lack of mutual understanding is present between not only the British and Irish but also the Irish themselves, for there are common disputes about conforming to the English language. "The native language declined, not as an outcome of British policy so much as because an entire generation of the Irish themselves decided no longer to speak it" (Kiberd 1995: ... With tensions remaining high between the French and English Canadians, there is still no news of a third attempt, fearing that history will repeat itself. Even though there are a lot of Canadians who can't forget the past of Quebec, there are also many who don't understand why this day is so significant. In this book, the mature Herriot tells about his youthful self, when he graduated from veterinary school and began working in rural veterinary practice. The narrator like the reader is able to laugh at his naïveté of Herriot, as well as at the people who surround him, including Siegfried Farnon, and his brother, Tristan Farnon. This memoir of James Herriot flashes the simple and laid back lives of the countryside folks. It exhibits their struggles, cultures, etiquette, hardships and relationships. The stories that are depicted in this book is loosely based on Herriot 's life as a young veterinarian in the rough English countryside pre–WWII. There he encounters many different people and animals from dogs and cats to livestock. From the first day of Herriot 's arrival at Skeldale House, being greeted by a troop of leaping, barking dogs, to the week of tuberculin testing that brings the book to a close, we share the moments of joy, laughter, tears, nerves, confidence, mix–ups, and triumphs involved in his Yorkshire veterinary practice of the 1930s. One of these music styles that was perhaps the most prominent music style to ever come out of Southern California was Surf Music. Analysis Of ' The Pearls On A String ' Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most interesting was Akbar and 'Abd al–Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586–1589). It is amazing to see how many different scenes can all occur in one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple outstanding pieces but the emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I did not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt's technique is spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a young Abdul Rahim Khan–I–Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. A great story is told throughout the entire book, although this particular image has more of an intensity to it. This page functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma 'Abd al–Rahim must have felt having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to some men appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is taller than wide with a beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is harmonious in every way possible. • 45. Bali 9 Clock Ticks Analysis Written by Cindy Wockner, the Bali 9 Clock Ticks newspaper article appearing in the Herald Sun serves as a neat, professional update on the predicament of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan. Written in typical newspaper fashion, the article underlies themes of desperation, hopelessness and fear in a detached string of paragraphs. The article catches our attention with a suspenseful, desperate title – Bali 9 Clock Ticks. The phrase 'Clock Ticks' paints a picture in our minds of time running out, and having to do something drastic before it's too late. This theme of despair is continuously highlighted throughout the text through phrases such as "all but in their executioners' crosshairs", "effectively signing his death warrant", "the end is nigh", and "quickly running out of options". The audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next story, again regarding a woman, is made to push us into a position of anger rather than regret, preparing us for the greater injustices to come later in the text. Wockner casually details how another woman's "co–accursed – including the drug ring mastermind – won clemency back in 2012." Wockner is subtly showing us the unjustness of the legal system, in the example of a woman who was simply a pawn being sentenced to death while her boss is set free. Anecdotes like this appeal to our sense of justice, inciting feelings of rage towards those who caused the injustice – in this case, the Indonesian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Gender In The Bohemian Rhapsody The 'Bohemian Rhapsody' from QUEEN was written in 1975, and re–released in 1991. The author was Freddie Mercury. This literary work is very interesting for me examined by psychological approach. The entire text has a male centred structure, the dominant persona is male. There are several names and characterizations such as 'poor boy', 'killed a man', 'Galileo'. All of these references show the dominant gender in the text. Although there is a less strong female presence as well such as 'mama' and 'mama mia'.(The English studies book– introduction to language, literature and culture, second edition– Rob Pope). It is possible to gain up the text and the author's relation in different ways. First of all, it is important to know that the author, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He honestly starts with owning up a murder made by him. In my opinion, if the text is checked with trying to understand his background, it can be construct as admit of his own rambunctiously life. "I killed a man. Put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger. Now he is dead." As a broad interpretation it explains his sickness, made with the wild life what he lived. He tells with the metaphor that he went too far, he just killed himself with a gun. He realizes that his life is dangerously approaching to its end that he has just started now. He is feeling the weight of his words. He starts to apologize for what he disbosom. He feels that this self–revelation is too factual. He says "my time has come", like he resigned his fate. There is a big hesitation from the author. He just making paradoxes with stating first that he is desperate and second that he is absolutely resigned his fate. The big confused feeling is growing. He closes the second part with another paradoxical state. He unmask his fear from death, he do not want to die. He hopped out of bed, and Audra admired his magnificent, muscular backside with a satisfied smile on her face and he slipped into his trousers, but the spotted a smear of blood on his lower arm. "Maxen, you're still bleeding." "Nothing to worry about." He dragged his tunic over his head and glanced over his shoulder at her. "But oh..." "What?" "I've gotten my blood all over that pretty face of yours." Maxen sat on the bed beside Audra, licked his thumb, and scrubbed the dried blood from her face. Then he leaned down and kissed her. "I don't want to stop kissing you or touching you," he said. "I think we can break for refreshment." He let out a playful growl. "I don't want to, but I will." After giving Audra another long kiss, he rose and padded from the room, and Audra stretched out in the bed. She was relaxed and in love, and she pushed away any feelings of guilt. Those could be managed later. During this week, Maxen would be the husband of her heart, and if the gods saw fit to strike her down for her transgressions, it would all be worth it. Brian Friel's "Translations" Essay Brian Friel's "Translations" 'Translations', by Brian Friel, presents us with an idyllic rural community turned on its head as the result of the recording and translation of place names into English; an action which is at first sight purely administrative. In Act 1 of the play, Friel brings together the inhabitants of this quaint Irish village in what can only be described as a gathering of minds – minds which study the classics, yet minds which study dead languages. In the same way, while this community is rich in culture and togetherness, it is also trapped in what is later described as a "contour which no longer matches the landscape of…fact". Thus, in expressing his ambivalence, Friel presents the reader with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first time Hugh speaks in the play, he greets his class with the line "Vesperal salutations to you all", illustrating perfectly the grasp which he has of the Irish language. Furthermore, he is fluent in other languages as well, and has the tendency to say phrases in Latin and Greek before asking members of his class to translate them into Irish. He even has some knowledge of the connotations and etymology of words – at the start of the play, he says (in reference to the derivation of the word 'baptise'), "Indeed – our friend Pliny Minor speaks of the 'baptisterium' – the cold bath". Even Manus, Hugh's son, is intelligent. Near the start of the play, we hear him describe how "Biddy Hanna sent for me to write a letter to her sister in Nova Scotia". The fact that Manus is capable of speaking English, despite living in Ireland, displays his knowledge of language. Furthermore, he works in the hedge–school, therefore clearly has the knowledge and ability to teach, while the stage directions at the start of the play describe his attitude towards his work as zealous – he is not only intelligent, but enthusiastic. Inevitably, not everyone in Baile Beag is up to the standards of Hugh, Jimmy Jack and Manus, yet we get the impression that those less–capable members of the hedge– school are still willing to learn. Both Bridget and Doalty, two characters who provide the play with many of its comedic moments, are portrayed as less intelligent, yet we see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. The Usefulness Of The Canadian Senate David C. Docherty's scholarly journal responds to the continual controversy and debate of the usefulness of the Canadian senate in 2002. Docherty's article does an amazing job at analyzing the current Canadian senate and argues that the senate is a failing Canadian institution because of two democratic deficiencies: the undemocratic nature of senator selection and the inability of senators to represent provinces properly (45). These two features of why the senate is a failing Canadian institution can be compared to how Rand Dyck defines democracy in Canadian Politics: Critical Approaches. Docherty looks at several previous senate reforms and answers the question of why these senate reforms failed, in doing so Docherty lays down a framework for a possible successful senate reform but acknowledges the obstacles. Docherty does a very good job at accessing the problem of the senate, accessing the problem of previous reforms, and suggesting a plausible type of reform for the senate. This provides the reader with the knowledge of why the Canadian senate is a failing institution but also the possible solutions of how the senate can be reformed in order to maximize its democratic potential. Although, Docherty fails to provide an exact reform that needs to be taken, he just draws upon other failures and hypothesis that this may be the right solution for reform. • 57. The Free Trade Agreement The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA were failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada, which was one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final reason the deal failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada but really did nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of Canadians and hindered many more. The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest election win in Canadian history. When he was re–elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead with the FTA which was implemented at midnight on January 1st 1989. Before Mulroney brought the FTA to the table he was thought of as the best Prime Minister Canada had ever elected. After the FTA and NAFTA, Mulroney was said to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Issues concerning Articles 34,35 or 36 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) are raised and Brian's potential claim is against France as the Member State who has enacted measures which may restrict imports and exports, thereby violating the Treaty. Firstly, considering the licence required by French legislation to import PS's, this could amount to a selling arrangement which is defined in the case of Keck as rules that concern who sells the product and when, where and how they go about it. Those selling arrangements which apply equally in law and fact will not invoke Article 34 TFEU. As the product, the PS, in not directly affected, the requirement of a licence may be a selling arrangement . However the selling arrangement does not apply equally in law and fact because there is no licence requirement mentioned for domestic producers of PSs . As the licence discriminates against imports, this may invoke Article 34 and it is likely to be a measure equivalent to a quantitative restriction (MEQR). MEQRs were defined in Dessonville as "All trading rules capable of hindering, directly or indirectly, actually or potentially, intra–Community trade" . In other words, an MEQR applies only to imports and not to everyone. As the licence is an additional requirement for imported PSs, and applications are only considered once a year in August, it makes imports more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Language, Not Politics Or History Essay Brian Friel correctly claims that Translations is a play that emphasizes language, not politics or history. This story takes place in a rural Gaelic–speaking town in Ireland and focuses on the interactions between Irish and English folk. These conversations end up to be a series of 'mistranslations'. Throughout the plot of this play, Friel proves that a person's identity comes from language alone. Understanding the politics and history of a play merely explains the factual framework of the story, but does not facilitate the reader to make inferences about the underlying meaning and purpose of the play like language does. The setting lends an important historical context to the play, but language tied with culture helps to unravel the meaning behind the play. This play is set in 1833, a time when, an Irish town, Ballybeg, is in the beginning phases of British colonization. The British imperial rule introduces the Ordnance Survey, which is mapped by "Lieutenant Yolland– ... [Royal Engineer]..." (405) in the story, to anglicize Ireland. Yolland, a British Royal Engineer, is a dynamic character who is a paragon for proving that language is an integral part of one's identity. Though knowing this historical context of the war sheds light on Yolland's background and occupation (factual information), it does not give insight on his true feelings for his job and cultural heritage. The show is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island and exhibits much of its humor in the form of cutaway gags that often lampoon the American culture. These sentiments are reiterated 14 years after the fact in Uncle Same and US, in which author Stephen Clarkson makes the case that we are slowly slipping away from our spirit of nationality, and that the combination of cultural, technological, social and political factors have heralded our apparently seamless integration into the American economy. Hazel has Thyroid cancer and it affects her everyday life. However, when Gus came into her life, her view on the world changed forever. John Green, the author of The Fault In Our Stars, uses dialogue to elaborate on the theme of being there for someone through the good and bad moments. Throughout the book, Hazel and Gus show that sometimes just being there for each other could mean the world to them, even when there are no words needing to be said. For example, Gus and Hazel's conversation on the phone after their first date. In the text it states "Okay," he said. "I gotta go to sleep. It's almost one." "Okay," I said. "Okay," he said. I giggled and said, "Okay." And then the line was quiet but not dead. I almost felt like he was there in my room with me, but in a way, it was better, like I was not in my room and he was not in his, but instead, we were together in some invisible and tenuous third space that could only be visited on the phone. "Okay," he said after forever. "Maybe okay will be our always." "Okay," I said."(Green 72–73) As mentioned previously, you don't have to have conversations to be there for someone. This shows that they are perfectly fine together, even when there are no words needing to be said. Also, when you have devotedness tord someone that much just knowing that you are sincere and ready to talk to anytime, anywhere, is incredible. Near the end of the book, Gus had died from cancer and a funeral was held. Doleful Hazel arrived and this is what happened... "As I knelt, I realized they'd closed his eyes –of course they had– and that I would never again see his blue eyes. "I love you present tense," I whispered and then put my hand in the middle of his chest and said, "It's okay, Gus.It's okay. It is. It's okay, you hear me?" I had –and have– absolutely no confidence that he could hear me. I leaned forward and kissed his cheek. "Okay," I said. "Okay."
