Themes & Ideas –
• The first idea which I have is to base it
around how she was killed and have three
images of weapons such as a gun, a knife
which could signify the way she was
murdered and help give the audience an
idea into the murder.
• Similar to this I was also thinking of the
three main suspects in her murder and
things linking them to her. For example I
could have men's clothes and women's
clothes in a pile to represent the
transgender character(Zak). For the love
triangle I would have have a red triangle
with a black love heart inside connoting
the twisted relationship. Finally I would
have lipstick of the ex boyfriends new
girlfriend signifying the danger she
posses.
Tagline –
• The two ideas I have had for the
tagline will need to link to the
theme of the trailer. The first
idea is ‘all is not well in the
downs’. I feel that this is effective
as it connotes the negative plot
line of murder that is occurring
in the area.
• The second idea that I have had
is, ‘what's up… with the downs’.
The simple idea of having an
oxymoron will be catchy for the
reader of the poster and help
attract attention.
Point of Call – The point of call
information will include the date of when the
soap will be aired, along with the time which will
be at 8:30pm. It will also include the channel that
the soap will be It will be aired on, which is BBC2.
it is crucial that I include this information as it
informs the viewer what channel they can watch
it on and at what time it will be aired. I have
previously seen this done on an EastEnders poster
which I thought was very effective as it grabbed
my attention despite being subtle. As a result of
this, I will look to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale- 1980) this
convention of the poster.
Images Needed –
• Walton on the hill Image of the woods
where Abbie has been found dead. I
would try and do this in the evening so I
can try and get the sun setting which has
deeper meanings behind it such as
connoting the fact the sun is setting on
the chances of living in a peaceful and
serene area of the country.
• another possible idea could be a gun on
the floor with an empty bullet shell next
to it which could foreshadow Abbie was
killed and be an effective idea if it was
the faded image in the background.
Synergy with Social Media –
• The first social media site which I will be using synergy
with will be ‘Instagram’. The reason for this is because
it is the fastest =growing social media site in the world
and is used by millions all over the world.
• Facebook links may cause the audience to view and
favourite the soap page. New updates to the soap
could be posted there, which the y can then share to
their friends, continuing to build awareness of the new
soap.
3. Mind Map - Conclusion
• In order to produce a good quality poster I will need to take steps based around this plan to do so. One of the
things I will need to do is purchase a copy of a soap opera poster due to the fact that it is my magazine of
inspiration. By doing this it will allow me to carefully analyze their cover and use some of the elements in my own
magazine and also allow me to see what I do not like about their magazine cover and change it to give my
magazine originality. Once I know where I am going and have a good plan for what my poster will look like, I will
begin to create the poster and eventually produce a finished copy.
• I will need to arrange things in order to create the cover though and so it will involve me collecting all the props to
do this. This includes getting high quality pictures to use on the cover. Due to these pictures having to be original I
will also need to get the permission that I can take pictures of them during school time and or outside of school.
Not only pictures, but I will also need to collect the props needed such as costume and anything they need to be
holding during the pictures. Finally I will also need to gather a camera to take the pictures. When I download the
pictures I will either email them to myself and save them or use a memory stick to save them form computer to
computer. Lastly I will need to choose the font style and colour scheme that I will be using for the cover. To do this I
will analyze fonts form other soap opera magazines and look at ‘DA-FONT.COM’ to choose an appropriate style.
• The software I am going to use in order to create my front cover will be ‘Adobe Photoshop’. This is because firstly I
have had previous experience of creating with this software and so I feel confident in using the features and
‘repeating’, (Steve Neale- 1980) the functions available on the software to create an effective page. As well as this,
I have researched and discovered that this is the software that most if not all high quality posters use to create
their posters to advertise their soap and so in order to create an effective, aesthetically pleasing and all round high
quality product I feel that using ‘Photoshop’ is the best software to use.
