• Despite control efforts, PPR continues to emerge or re-emerge in Asia, Africa
and Middle East, also threatening Europe
• High costs to economy and biodiversity
• Uncontrolled transboundary movement of infected animals is the most likely
route of PPR spread (animal trade, transhumance)
• Good and cheap vaccines are available
• Synchronized, locally-adapted strategies are needed to control the disease
• Improvement and exchange of knowledge on the disease and its diagnostic are
key for efficient actions (through international research and lab networks)
