Trayvon Martin Trial
Trayvon Martin was a 17–year–old boy that lived in Florida. He lived with his mother and often
visited his father. While he had undergone some troubles, he overall was not a terrible kid. Although
he was notably young and minded his own business, others did not. On February 26, 2012, the
young boy's life was taken away from him. The man who killed him was George Michael
Zimmerman. He served as a neighborhood watch captain around the area where his old man lived.
CNN stated that all he had was skittles and tea in his hand. Now tell me does that seem threatening
to you? According to Zimmerman, he was claiming "self–defense" and that Trayvon was "a
suspicious person." Florida law states that one is granted the "stand your ground" law and that is
what Zimmerman claimed to do in an act of defense. Zimmerman was arrested, but he was not
charged or convicted of Martin's murder even though people know that Zimmerman killed him for
absolutely no actual cause. Situations like this is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to this theme is the story "To Kill a Mockingbird." In TKM, Tom Robinson was a man that
was found guilty of a crime that he did not even commit. He basically lost the trial and was
convicted because he was black. Another case where Joe McKnight's shooter admitted to being
guilty and still was not convicted. In contrary, a case where Rodger Batiste, a black man, killed
Shane Vicknair, a white man, and was sentenced to five years. In these couple of sentences alone
justice is clearly not on African Americans side. The fact that the roles were switched goes to show
that society will do anything in its power to wipe African Americans out. With these examples, it
can be seen that there is pure injustice in society, the courts, and everywhere. Nothing has been
resolved or fixed in a racism standpoint. Being that Trayvon Martin was a young black kid that
looked "suspicious" did him no

We live in a world where people who have any kind of power will abuse it at some point in their
life. Adults, Children and people of authority abuse their power and sometimes it causes a great
controversy about whether what they did is acceptable or not. Many negative effects can be
demonstrated when someone abuses their power. The sadness, guilt, regret and the feeling of being
worthless are the effects when someone abuses their power. Seventeen year old Trayvon Martin was
shot after leaving a 7–Eleven by the neighborhood watch captain a close connection of Sanford
Florida police. This person of authority abused their power and shot an unarmed teenager.
Unfortunately for Martin's family this man took their child's life. Because of his race and the way he

Hassan's love and kindness are easily overseen by Amir and doesn't take it into consideration. Amir

when Hassan asked what a word meant he would lie and call this a "harmless prank." Although
Amir knew what he was doing and would feel guilty so he would try to repay Hassan with a broken

Summary Of The Trayvon Martin Case
Whether allowing Attorney General Eric Holder to dropped charges against the New Black Panther
Party for intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place in 2009, to inflammatory comments
made during the Trayvon Martin case and the Michael Brown shooting, Obama is always sure to let
his true ideology shine through. Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin were no strangers to run–ins
with law enforcement. When the Martin case broke we were flooded with school pictures of a very
young boy, only to find out that young Trayvon was anything but innocent. Ignorance of both
George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin aside, Obama was quick to express where his support was.
The Michael Brown case was no different. Obama and Eric Holder treated law enforcement

The Trayvon Martin Case
Ever been blamed for homicide or been known as a bigot? Well George Zimmerman has, in the
Trayvon Martin case. Many individuals do trust that George Zimmerman is a supremacist and a
killer. Feelings and actualities are major factors in this case. Clearly George Zimmerman killed
Trayvon Martin, however despite everything he has pleaded not guilty. George Zimmerman has
argued not guilty towards the Trayvon Martin case. Zimmerman is the area watch volunteer.
Zimmerman said that he shot Trayvon for his own self–protection. The state of Florida has a law
expressing "Stand your ground". Zimmerman was the main observer of the demise of Martin. The

they trust that everything will turn out right regardless of what you do and it makes no difference to
them what transpires, they are cheerful. In the event that a parent passes on, they are pitiful for some
time, however then they trust that the individual that is gone watches over them and is cheerful
constantly, so the kid gradually recuperates and conceives that the world is a bundle of roses once
more. The younger generations are so innocent that they say things such as: "when I grow up I want
to be a Dentist". They may also say things like "When I grow up I want to marry a NBA player so
that I can never have to work a day in my life". Things that they do not take into consideration is
that, none of the dreams comes as easy as it does to say them. They do not realize his because they
are truly innocent. They usually do not understand all the implications that goes along with
achieving their ultimate goal. Therefore, they are oblivious as to why their dreams were crushed.
However, depending on the age they may continue to push through and move forward. In the poem,
Trayvon's innocence is portrayed by the singing boy walking home from the market singing a song
he made up. "He sang made–up songs to pass the steps as he laid them". Just maneuvering through
life as if nothing could ever be wrong in the world surrounding him. Considering the situation at
hand and the scenery, it is not peculiar that Trayvon was so oblivious to any danger or over
awareness of his journey home. This is due to the fact that this was a familiar battle ground. A place
where he called home. This was a path taken by him and probably many others time and time
before. What was so different about this particular time. The difference his innocence was
challenged from behind and not toe to

Trayvon Martin Case Report
I remember the day that George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the murder of Trayvon Martin.
I also remember watching every day of the trial on television. During the trial there was more
attention focused on Trayvon's friend and her improper use of English, the meaning of his Facebook
pictures and how they portrayed him as a thug, and other issues that took the focus off of the crime.
Trayvon's friend, who was on the phone with him during the time of his murder lacked credibility
during her testimony, and it was obvious that the legal defense team did not properly prepare her to
speak in front of a judge and jury. These things angered me as I watched like so many Americans,
but when the verdict was read and George Zimmerman was found not ... Show more content on

(citation) It gained a modest foothold in the year after Zimmerman's acquittal. But after Michael
Brown's death in August 2014, the hashtag became a rallying cry. On the November day a St. Louis
grand jury declined to indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson cop who shot Brown, the hashtag was
used 202,492 times, according to Twitter data compiled for TIME. By then, Black Lives Matter had
become popular shorthand for a broader array of causes. The original group founded by Garza,
Cullors and a New York–based immigration activist, Opal Tometi, now counts 26 chapters,
including foreign outposts in Toronto and Accra, Ghana. (Organizers must subscribe to a shared "set
of principles" to start a new branch, Garza says.) But the formal network is just one of many
organizations that have converged under the Black Lives Matter banner to confront the power
structures–from police forces to prisons to politics–that activists say have devalued Black life.
Martin O'Malley, Maryland Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate, called for a

February 26,2012 on a rainy day Trayvon Martin was returning to his father's girlfriend's house in
Sanford, Florida, after he went to the local 7–Eleven. He brought a bag of Skittles and a can of
Arizona iced tea for his little brother. As he walked home, the unarmed 17–year–old was on the cell
phone with his female friend. Trayvon was spotted by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch,
who was patrolling the gated community, at the Retreat at Twin Lakes, in his vehicle. Zimmerman
called 911 to report what he described as Martin a "suspicious person", telling the operator he
looked like he was "up to no good, on drugs or something". Zimmerman was warned by the operator
not to follow the teenager. But he did, getting out of his vehicle and taking ... Show more content on

It takes place four days after what would have been Martin's 18th birthday. March 5, 2013 – Lawyer
Mark O'Mara decides against seeking a pretrial "stand your ground" immunity hearing for George
Zimmerman citing lack of preparation time. April 5, 2013 – Martin's parents settle a wrongful–death
claim against the homeowner's association of the Florida subdivision where their son was killed.
April 30, 2013 Zimmerman's attorneys decide they will instead try this as a self–defense case. If
Zimmerman had had a pretrial immunity hearing, a judge would have ruled whether his actions were
protected under the "stand your ground" law. If the judge had ruled in favor of Zimmerman, it would
have meant that no criminal or civil trial could proceed. May 28, 2013 – Judge Debra Nelson rules
on several motions brought by the defense. Nelson rules that Trayvon Martin's familiarity with guns,
his marijuana use, and fights he may have been in cannot be brought up in Zimmerman's trial. She
also denies a request to take the jury to the crime scene. Nelson, however, rules that jurors will
remain anonymous and will be referred to by numbers only. June 20, 2013 – An all–female jury is
selected. June 24, 2013 – The trial begins with opening statements. July 13, 2013 – The six–woman
jury finds George Zimmerman not guilty. They had three choices: to find Zimmerman guilty of
second–degree murder; to find him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter; or to find him not
guilty. The jurors deliberated for more than 16 hours total. February 24, 2015 – The US Justice
Department announces that no federal civil rights charges will be brought against George

Comparing Frankenstein And Trayvon Martin
Society's perception of others starts first with appearance which brings about isolation and racism
against others appearing abnormal. This has been a recurring problem in the world for several
centuries because people wrongfully judge values on looks. In real life minorities are perceived as
criminals and in Gulliver's Travels, Gulliver is immediately seen as a threat because of his physical
advantage. The main characters in Frankenstein, Gulliver's Travels, and Trayvon Martin in What
happened the night Trayvon Martin died were persecuted because of how they seemed or looked on
the outside. In these works individuals are othered which led to them being emotionally and
physically harmed. In Shelley's Frankenstein, the creature was othered to the point that he resorted
to violence. When the creature first encounters human beings they react with disturbance and
exclusion which leads to his isolation. The creature recounts his story saying, "I had hardly placed
my foot within the door, before the children shrieked, and one of the women fainted"(93). This
quote shows how the Creature wants to be accepted into society, but ... Show more content on

It is important that the fictional stories address exclusion because it is still relevant today with
situations such as Trayvon Martin. Ostracizing others as monsters or criminals because they do not
look normal is saddenning and ridiculous because it creates a divide in any population. Authors
understand that this is not only for fictional characters and mythical creatures, but it is also a symbol
for the people who are considered different in their area because of their appearance. All of these
stories can relate because each person or creature is being isolated as a subject of othering or
judgement that is based off their

Trayvon, Martin, By Trayvon Martin
Trayvon Benjamin Martin was born February 5, 1995, he was a seventeen (17) year old African
American male who lived with his mother in Miami Gardens, Florida. Trayvon had recently been
suspended from his school Krop Senior High School, for a period of ten (10) days from a discovery
of the residue of drugs that had been located within his book bag ("Trayvon Martin," 2016). George
Michael Zimmerman, born October 5, 1983, he is a part time college student located at Seminole
State College and the father of two (2) children. Mr. Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch captain
at the Retreat at Twin Lakes gated community in Sanford Florida at the time the event occurred
("Trayvon Martin," 2016). February 26, 2012, Zimmerman calls 911 emergency operation center to
report a suspicious person in the neighborhood. While on the telephone with the 911 emergency
operations dispatcher, Zimmerman receives instructions neither to get out of his vehicle nor to
approach the individual. Zimmerman disregards any and all instructions that he had received from
the dispatcher and approached the individual and a struggle ensued. Neighbors began to report
gunshots in the area and the police was called to the scene. Zimmerman admits to shooting Martin
states it was in self–defense. According to a police report Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose
and areas on the back of his head and photographs are made of the injuries. Mr. Martin was fatally

In 2015, Charles Campbell gave a TED Talk about language, symbols, and the connotations we give
them. Charles is a successful person, he is a musician, poet, author, and a Professor at Bryant &
Stratton college. His TED Talk brought up valid points that everyone could agree with such as
connotations that go along with words, colors, or flowers, nothing too serious. He also asks the
audience about what connotations or stereotypes they would affiliate with the term black male, the
crowd giving him mostly negative connotations or stereotypes that they have heard. He explains the
negative impact this has on black men, that some may see it as an easier way to live than if they
were to go against the stereotypes. This brings him to the case of ... Show more content on

Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago." Obama makes a
note about the people who have resorted to signs and symbols as a way to take a side, whether it's a
protest or in a jury. People will look for meaning in things like signs and books, or things more
serious like security tapes, or forensic evidence. He also addresses African American men, saying,
"There are very few African American men in this country who haven't had the experience of being
followed when they were shopping in a department store." Obama takes into mind all the language,
symbols, and stereotypes that African Americans face even to this day. Being a political figure,
Obama would most likely interpret Campbell's talk in a political way. There would be no favor to
any certain topic that Campbell covered. Instead, Obama might consider the facts before crafting a
response, as any smart political figure would do. He would be more likely to process Campbell's
talk emotionally. There is evidence of this in his speech about the Trayvon Martin shooting when he
sympathized with the Martin family, and expressed his emotions about the tragedy multiple times.
It's hard to say whether or not his decision was influenced by race. On the surface, many people
would say that his deeply emotional remarks could have been influenced by the fact that Martin was
part of the African American community, but being the president requires a certain level of
indifference when addressing

Did you know that unarmed black men are seven times more likely to die than white men? Racism
is as old as human society itself. As long as human beings have been around, people have always
seemed to have hated or feared people with a different skin color. Racism is just a part of the human
nature. Trayvon Benjamin Martin was just 17 when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a
neighborhood watch captain, in Sanford, Florida on February 2012. The murder of Trayvon Martin
affected many people. The death of Martin was just the first of several deaths where a white person
killed a black innocent person. Since the deaths weren't stopping the #BlackLivesMatter movement
began. Trayvon Benjamin Martin was a 17 year old African American from Miami Gardens, Florida.
He was badly shot by George Zimmerman; a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida.
Zimmerman called 911 to report that there was "suspicious person" walking through the
neighborhood. He was told to not do anything, but he did anyway. As he approached Martin, he
attacked him and shot him straight to the heart. According to CNN, "Zimmerman acknowledges that
he shot Martin, claiming it was in self–defense." ("Trayvon Martin Shooting Fast Facts"). When the

Trayvon feared Zimmerman and Zimmerman was scared to the point of shooting Martin. Trayvon's
family feared that Zimmerman was free to kill even more innocent children. On the other hand, Jem
and Scout showed fear when they were attacked by Bob Ewell, they also feared Boo Radley and
lastly everyone in the town feared the crazy dog. Another theme is racism. Racism is one of the most
important themes in both, To Kill A Mockingbird and the death of Martin. Tom Robinson loses the

February 26, 2012 marked the day that the innocent minor, Trayvon Martin, was shot to his death in
a gated neighborhood in Sanford, Florida. The shooter, George Zimmerman, still has not faced any
serious consequence for the murder. Many people in the Sanford community, and even around the
country, believe that there is no question that Zimmerman should be convicted and sent to jail, but,
unfortunately, it is not up to the people; it is up to the justice system. With the consideration of
Florida's state laws, this is a difficult case to foresee the outcome of George Zimmerman's
conviction and prosecution. Trayvon Martin's murder occurred around 7:25 PM of February 26,

Soon after, the Martin's family online petition to have Zimmerman arrested reached 877,110

2012) In George Zimmerman's defense, his father came on TV to tell the world that his son had been
wrongfully accused of bring a racist. His brother also showed up on the news claiming that there are
medical reports that show that Martin had abused Zimmerman. (CNN?) As the investigation
progressed, phone calls made by witnesses were released. One phone call stood out from the others;
in the background of the call, Martin's cry for help is heard. (ABC News, 2012) After the New Black
Panther Party started rallies against Zimmerman and proposed a $10,000 reward for his "capture,"
Zimmerman's father spoke out again to say that Trayvon Martin threatened to kill his son, so he
pulled the trigger in self–defense. (CNN?) The state attorney on the case, Angela Corey, got
appointed as special prosecutor. Zimmerman's attorney(s) lost contact with him and stopped
working the case. It was believed then that Zimmerman had fled Florida. (Crimesider staff, 2012)

Art is dead because artist are dying. On February 5th, 2012 a defenses boy by the name of Trayvon
Martin was shot dead in the streets out of racist ideals. This was the spark that erupted the Black
Lives Matter movement. A slightly edited version of the story unraveled on the daily news.
Disappointment devoured my father's face and he said with strain: "The only crime we commit is
exciting" he had said. At the age of 12, I was befuddled by this use of "we". Who are "we"? I would
soon painfully find out that "we" is me, is black people. The story of the Trayvon Martin, at the
time, held no real significance to me. To me it was just another senseless act by senseless person,

In the eyes of America, I was a descendant of a slave and the child of a black man, making my life
less important. My parents wanted only to protect my spirit, so I was taught that racism is just
bulling, not an institutionalized oppression that affected me and everyone that looked like me. Then,
the art of the hurt and angered surfaced and opened my eyes that I finally understood. Paintings of
fists thrust into the air, black people being hung by the American flag, and the words inscribed on
the building about injustice flooded my life. Minorities in America are, as we always are, fighting
for the unalienable rights of human beings, rights that can be obtained through art. I have seen art
affect me and those around me. I was inspired to make pieces that were a statement of my anger
about what was going on in the world around me. I used art as my voice. Art has the power to
destroy the foundation of the oppression of black people this country was built on. Art has the power
to inform and move people and help them to see the problems of the world and inspires them to fix
it. Art has the power to empower people and lift them up through adversity. Art is the answer. I can
change the world through my art, unveil the ugly truth of oppression, and to one day make so that
every person has the ability to grow and create. Through my art, I can bring the world together and
save the lives of these potential artists. I just need to go to college

Trayvon Martin vs George Zimmerman
Trayvon Martin was killed by a neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman. He says that it was
self defense, but after the tragic phone call was released to the media everything took a huge turn
questioning if it was a hate crime. If Zimmerman would have stayed in his car that night then
Trayvon would still be alive. It could not be self–defense if all Travon had in his hand were skittles
and some tea. The whole thing blew up right after it was released to the news. Then when it was
time for the trial it was live on television. During the trial and after the verdict is when the social
media started to go crazy. On the night of February 26, 2012 "George Zimmerman who was the

not to do that, He turned to George Zimmerman, out of the darkness and said "Why are you

This is an example of a stereotype Black people go through. They are assumed to be "dangerous."
Blonde girls are assumed to be dumb. Muslim people who grow beards are assumed to be terrorists
only because of what happened during 9/11. Some things about racism have changed for the better.
Now, there are organizations and laws that have been formed to work against discrimination against,
and unequal treatment of, people of colour. Even though it may be impossible to entirely prevent the
amount of racism and discrimination people of colour receive. We have come a long way from 50
years ago and it may take another 50 years to extinguish racism. In his book the long walk to
freedom the late Nelson Mandela writes "No one is born hating another person because of the colour
of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to
hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
In today's society if racism is present it is taught not in schools or classrooms but by observation.

In every small town there is a police district we depend on. We depend on them to protect us , and
serve in the most positive way for the people. The importance of this topic in my eyes is that the
Police get–away with things that they shouldn't. What inspired me the most is the Trayvon Martin
case, and the Eric Garner case that really opened my eyes to see that the black community is so
broken and we as a unit cannot seem to fix it.
The black communities have many stereotypes about them and they tend to be negative this is why
people think so negative of the black community but I believe the police play a role in the negative

Ted Nugent said people looking out for suspicious behavior are "The purest form of Americans
watching out for each other and being good neighbors" (Cover). I agree that people watching the
neighborhood is a good thing because they are making sure it is safe for themselves and their
children. If someone sees something suspicious they can tell another person so they can call the
police while the other person tries to alleviate the problem before it blows out of proportion. If you

I think Zimmerman pursued Trayvon because he was black and wore a hood out late at night. I feel
Zimmerman shot Trayvon because he was black being Trayvon held no real threat towards him. I
don't believe Zimmerman feared Trayvon at all, but just needed a reason to rid the world of another
black kid so he took it. I mean he could have easily over powered him at any time so why let
Trayvon attack him in the first place and then shoot him. Zimmer could have waited for the police to
get there to solve the problem, but instead let his hatred of blacks get in the way. I think Zimmerman
knew he wouldn't face any consequences for his actions. I think Nugent is trying to tell us not to
judge a person by how they look or dress. He might also be saying think first before you take action
against someone without proof. Finally, we should all carry ourselves and treat others with the

Persuasive Essay On Trayvon Martin
Since the start of slavery to the time of segregation, racism has been a part of America. It has held
roots since the birth of America, a nation created for freedom yet many aren't free. It has caused
hardships for people of color and has created division in America. Some believe racism died with
the end of segregation or with the election of the first African American president, but the reality is
racism and racial profiling is still a major problem in modern America. Racial profiling and racism
is causing controversy in America and creating division in a nation when unity is needed.
The shooting of Trayvon Martin is one of the most controversial incidents of the decade. Trayvon
Martin was a young African American teen fallen victim to the evil of racial discrimination. One
evening while walking home Trayvon was shot by a hispanic man named George Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was on neighborhood patrol on a rainy day in Florida, and he noticed a black male
walking through the neighborhood. He immediately jumped to conclusions and called the police
who told him to leave the man walking alone because there was no need to follow him anyway, but
Zimmerman did not listen. He confronted the young black male and after a little altercation
Zimmerman shot the boy in an act of "self defense". Zimmerman killed someone because of a
profile created based on the color of someone's skin. Now besides the fact that a young boy was
killed due to racial profiling, what's even worse is the

True Justice is hard to find. Despite everything we do, injustice can be found everywhere. It could
be through a form of discrimation against race, gender, age or religion preference. In 1955, a woman
named Rosa Parks descided enough was enough. "No." this one word uttered by an African
American who changed the public transportation and American society. Her refusal to give up her
seat in the coloured section to a white passenger because the white section was full, her courage to

The Death Of Trayvon Martin
About two or three years ago, I joined a couple of my friends from high school to have dinner with
our old American history teacher. This is a man we respected as exemplary of good character, an
intelligent man who had provoked us those years ago to think critically in new ways about the issues
that have shaped our country and the debates that formed our American structures and institutions.
The conversation that night, however, felt strangely alien to me despite how predictable it should
have been, knowing that I would be reengaging with a conservative evangelical frame of thinking
that I had spent years learning to leave behind. My old teacher talked about how when he looks
around at the American political climate – the sorts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How can we be making ourselves racist, if "we" – the enforced fantasies and illusions of our shared
national identity – always already have been racist? Yet this sentiment abides among much of public
discourse today, that to claim acknowledgment of racial injustice as extant in our institutions and
political structures and not only as singular conscious phenomena enacted by especially cruel or
misguided individuals is to make America racist again, and nobody of good character or ideals
would want that.
This Thursday, 5:30pm at the Sheldon Museum of Art, we will welcome Alexandre Da Costa as the
third Humanities on the Edge lecturer in a series themed around the question "Post–Racial Futures?"
Da Costa will contribute to this ongoing inquiry with a lecture titled "Towards a Hemispheric
Critique of the Post–racial" which will presumably pick up on a focal theme in his recent research
publications, that is, an examination of "post–racial ideology" in the Americas, through a relational
rather than comparative framework, as a "hegemonic force shaping the simultaneous reality of race,
racism, and colonialism alongside their institutional and everyday disavowal" ("Thinking 'Post–
Racial' Ideology Transnationally" 476). Da Costa combines an interrogation of post–racial ideology
in Brazil with its symmetrical counterpart in America to show how this sort of ideology functions
similarly across the Western Hemisphere despite the singularity of its local inflections due to the

The Tragic Story of Trayvon Martin

young men he was but stereotype to be violent and doing criminal activities. The night a young men
life was lost, because he was stereotyped and racial profiled by George Zimmerman. The event had
a big impact on Americans mainly African American with question and obsession of what was really
happening. I will address the issues on how this story became national, how the stand your ground

This article's account leans heavily toward Trayvon Martin's side. It was published about a month
after the shooting. They describe Martin's life, personality, and the events leading up to the his
death. Trayvon Martin is pictured as a normal teenage boy, in an attempt to persuade readers of his
innocence and to remind readers of the tragedy of his short life. New York Times describes,
"Trayvon was interested in girls, computer games, sports and the beat of the rap and hip–hop

The article was published less than a month after the incident. It details the life and hobbies of

The Case Of George Zimmerman And Trayvon Martin
The incident involving George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was one that caught the interest of
many Americans. Trayvon Martin, a young 17–year–old African American boy, was shot and killed
during a dispute between him and George Zimmerman, a 28–year–old Hispanic man. Zimmerman
was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the community and he called the police after Martin
was acting very suspicious by looking into people's windows. Zimmerman claimed he acted out of
self defense and he also had head injuries. This case is such a big deal because many people believe
that Zimmerman only shot him because he was an African American. One aspect in society that is a
prominent issue is racism or racial profiling. This case shows the controversy over racial profiling in
America. This also ties into the theoretical perspective of critical race theory. Critical race theory
involves inequality related to racism. The George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin case accurately
represents the issue of racial profiling in society today.
Racial profiling is a prominent aspect of culture in America today. Some people refuse to believe
that racism still exists in the United States, which makes it such a controversial topic. There have
been many cases that have come out that relate to racial profiling. Most of them have a tendency to
be related to violent acts. They can involve all different races such as African American or Middle–
Eastern people. Especially after 9/11,

The Martin killing and trial had recently been one of the primary topics covered by the media in
America because Zimmerman was set free (WLRN.org). Before Zimmerman can be charged with a
crime, there were several considerations that were proposed: murder, manslaughter or hate crime.
Per Florida Statues "the penalty for any felony or misdemeanor shall be reclassified as provided in
Florida Statute §775.085 if the commission of such felony or misdemeanor evidence prejudice based
on the race, color, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, mental or physical
disability, or advanced age of the victim" (leg.state.fl.us). For Zimmerman to be found guilty of
second–degree murder, the jury must be persuaded that Martin's unlawful death was done from ill
will, hatred, spite or an evil intent (leg.state.fl.us). To be considered the charge of manslaughter, the
jurors must be convinced that Zimmerman intentionally committed an act or acts that caused
Trayvon Martin's death (leg.state.fl.us). The definition of a hate crime was a crime motivated by
racial, sexual, or other prejudice; typically, one involving violence (Oxford

For many African–Americans the case had even deeper implications: Trayvon Martin, who had no

another tragic example of racial profiling, the latest in a seemingly endless succession of unarmed

Why Is Trayvon Martin Wrong
Trayvon Martin was an African American teenage boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch
volunteer named George Zimmerman. They had an altercation and Zimmerman shot and killed
Martin. Zimmerman states that it was self defense, even though Martin was unarmed.
Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter, even though an unarmed
teenager was killed wrongfully. An unknown author explicitly states "Neighborhood watch
volunteer George Zimmerman fatally shoots unarmed 17–year old Trayvon Martin" ("From Trayvon
Martin to Walter Scott" 1). If it were a black man who shot a 17 year old white boy, more than likely
the black man would plead guilty. A black man got killed just for selling CD's, but a white man
raped a woman and only got 3 months in prison. Another great example of this double standard
would be the case of a 31 year old black woman named Marissa Alexander. She shot a warning shot
at her husband whom is abusive. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Patricia J. Williams

belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race,
especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. It's in America
because people from all over coming from other places are moving to America. They not getting

Trayvon Martin Case Summary
In 2012, President Obama secured his 2nd term in the oval against his opponent Mitt Romney. The
voter turnout was not as high as it was in 2008 but minority voters turned out in voted in such high
numbers again. According to pew research, minority votes determined the 2012 election. On
February 26, 2012, an African–American teen, Trayvon Martin, was fatally shot by a neighborhood
watchmen, George Zimmerman. Zimmerman assumed that Martin looked suspicious then he called
the police after being told not to pursue Martin he continues to and the situation ended in a tragedy.
The case gained national attention and stirred up many protests around the U.S. All the facts proved
that Zimmerman was guilty of wrongfully killing Martin and Martin was not an actual threat just a
black man wearing a hoody. After a year, George Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder of
Trayvon Martin. Once again, the justice system failed African American people. This case proved
although there was a Black man in the highest position in the U.S., the justice system was still
broken. Across the states riots broke out and protest and the president had to address the issue.
President Obama gave an unscheduled speech addressing the issue. The president ... Show more

Many African– Americans believed he failed to resolve the issues at hand. From 2012– 2016 there
were over 15 police brutality cases that gained national attention. It sparked many race riots, and
protest across the U.S. The birth of black lives matter, is an international activist movement,
originating in the African–American community, that campaigns against violence and perceived
systemic racism toward black people. Also, the mothers of the movement, is a group of women
whose African American children have been killed by the police or by gun violence. After the killing
of two black men at the hands of the police, President Obama was forced to speak. In an unexpected
speech, the President

Trayvon Martin Trial

  • 1. Trayvon Martin Trial Trayvon Martin was a 17–year–old boy that lived in Florida. He lived with his mother and often visited his father. While he had undergone some troubles, he overall was not a terrible kid. Although he was notably young and minded his own business, others did not. On February 26, 2012, the young boy's life was taken away from him. The man who killed him was George Michael Zimmerman. He served as a neighborhood watch captain around the area where his old man lived. CNN stated that all he had was skittles and tea in his hand. Now tell me does that seem threatening to you? According to Zimmerman, he was claiming "self–defense" and that Trayvon was "a suspicious person." Florida law states that one is granted the "stand your ground" law and that is what Zimmerman claimed to do in an act of defense. Zimmerman was arrested, but he was not charged or convicted of Martin's murder even though people know that Zimmerman killed him for absolutely no actual cause. Situations like this is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to this theme is the story "To Kill a Mockingbird." In TKM, Tom Robinson was a man that was found guilty of a crime that he did not even commit. He basically lost the trial and was convicted because he was black. Another case where Joe McKnight's shooter admitted to being guilty and still was not convicted. In contrary, a case where Rodger Batiste, a black man, killed Shane Vicknair, a white man, and was sentenced to five years. In these couple of sentences alone justice is clearly not on African Americans side. The fact that the roles were switched goes to show that society will do anything in its power to wipe African Americans out. With these examples, it can be seen that there is pure injustice in society, the courts, and everywhere. Nothing has been resolved or fixed in a racism standpoint. Being that Trayvon Martin was a young black kid that looked "suspicious" did him no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Trayvon Martin Research Paper We live in a world where people who have any kind of power will abuse it at some point in their life. Adults, Children and people of authority abuse their power and sometimes it causes a great controversy about whether what they did is acceptable or not. Many negative effects can be demonstrated when someone abuses their power. The sadness, guilt, regret and the feeling of being worthless are the effects when someone abuses their power. Seventeen year old Trayvon Martin was shot after leaving a 7–Eleven by the neighborhood watch captain a close connection of Sanford Florida police. This person of authority abused their power and shot an unarmed teenager. Unfortunately for Martin's family this man took their child's life. Because of his race and the way he had dressed, Zimmerman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hassan's love and kindness are easily overseen by Amir and doesn't take it into consideration. Although Amir knew what he was doing and would feel guilty so he would try to repay Hassan with a broken toy or an old shirt. This shows Amir's abuse of power over Hassan. Amir Pulls "jokes" on Hassan when Hassan only shows love, then tries to make up for it with materialistic items. The effects Amir has to deal with from abusing his power is guilt and knowing he stole knowledge from someone who deserved nothing less. Also what Baba says is the greatest sin. Then in the novel, we see, Assef rapes Hassan and Sohrab we see his abuse of power. Assef wanted to show his dominance both physically and mentally because Hassan and Sohrab. Summary Of The Trayvon Martin Case Whether allowing Attorney General Eric Holder to dropped charges against the New Black Panther Party for intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place in 2009, to inflammatory comments made during the Trayvon Martin case and the Michael Brown shooting, Obama is always sure to let his true ideology shine through. Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin were no strangers to run–ins with law enforcement. When the Martin case broke we were flooded with school pictures of a very young boy, only to find out that young Trayvon was anything but innocent. Ignorance of both George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin aside, Obama was quick to express where his support was. The Michael Brown case was no different. • 7. The Trayvon Martin Case Ever been blamed for homicide or been known as a bigot? Well George Zimmerman has, in the Trayvon Martin case. Many individuals do trust that George Zimmerman is a supremacist and a killer. Feelings and actualities are major factors in this case. Clearly George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin, however despite everything he has pleaded not guilty. George Zimmerman has argued not guilty towards the Trayvon Martin case. Zimmerman is the area watch volunteer. Zimmerman said that he shot Trayvon for his own self–protection. The state of Florida has a law expressing "Stand your ground". In the event that a parent passes on, they are pitiful for some time, however then they trust that the individual that is gone watches over them and is cheerful constantly, so the kid gradually recuperates and conceives that the world is a bundle of roses once more. The younger generations are so innocent that they say things such as: "when I grow up I want to be a Dentist". They may also say things like "When I grow up I want to marry a NBA player so that I can never have to work a day in my life". Things that they do not take into consideration is that, none of the dreams comes as easy as it does to say them. They do not realize his because they are truly innocent. They usually do not understand all the implications that goes along with achieving their ultimate goal. Therefore, they are oblivious as to why their dreams were crushed. However, depending on the age they may continue to push through and move forward. In the poem, Trayvon's innocence is portrayed by the singing boy walking home from the market singing a song he made up. "He sang made–up songs to pass the steps as he laid them". Just maneuvering through life as if nothing could ever be wrong in the world surrounding him. Considering the situation at hand and the scenery, it is not peculiar that Trayvon was so oblivious to any danger or over awareness of his journey home. This is due to the fact that this was a familiar battle ground. A place where he called home. This was a path taken by him and probably many others time and time before. • 9. Trayvon Martin Case Report I remember the day that George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the murder of Trayvon Martin. I also remember watching every day of the trial on television. During the trial there was more attention focused on Trayvon's friend and her improper use of English, the meaning of his Facebook pictures and how they portrayed him as a thug, and other issues that took the focus off of the crime. Trayvon's friend, who was on the phone with him during the time of his murder lacked credibility during her testimony, and it was obvious that the legal defense team did not properly prepare her to speak in front of a judge and jury. These things angered me as I watched like so many Americans, but when the verdict was read and George Zimmerman was found not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (citation) It gained a modest foothold in the year after Zimmerman's acquittal. But after Michael Brown's death in August 2014, the hashtag became a rallying cry. On the November day a St. Louis grand jury declined to indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson cop who shot Brown, the hashtag was used 202,492 times, according to Twitter data compiled for TIME. By then, Black Lives Matter had become popular shorthand for a broader array of causes. The original group founded by Garza, Cullors and a New York–based immigration activist, Opal Tometi, now counts 26 chapters, including foreign outposts in Toronto and Accra, Ghana. (Organizers must subscribe to a shared "set of principles" to start a new branch, Garza says.) But the formal network is just one of many organizations that have converged under the Black Lives Matter banner to confront the power structures–from police forces to prisons to politics–that activists say have devalued Black life. Martin O'Malley, Maryland Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate, called for a constitutional amendment to protect voting rights and unveiled a detailed criminal–justice program that calls for body cameras, national use–of–force standards, eliminating mandatory–minimum sentences for low–level drug offenses and better data collection on police shootings (Altman, ... He brought a bag of Skittles and a can of Arizona iced tea for his little brother. As he walked home, the unarmed 17–year–old was on the cell phone with his female friend. Trayvon was spotted by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch, who was patrolling the gated community, at the Retreat at Twin Lakes, in his vehicle. It takes place four days after what would have been Martin's 18th birthday. March 5, 2013 – Lawyer Mark O'Mara decides against seeking a pretrial "stand your ground" immunity hearing for George Zimmerman citing lack of preparation time. April 5, 2013 – Martin's parents settle a wrongful–death claim against the homeowner's association of the Florida subdivision where their son was killed. April 30, 2013 Zimmerman's attorneys decide they will instead try this as a self–defense case. If Zimmerman had had a pretrial immunity hearing, a judge would have ruled whether his actions were protected under the "stand your ground" law. If the judge had ruled in favor of Zimmerman, it would have meant that no criminal or civil trial could proceed. May 28, 2013 – Judge Debra Nelson rules on several motions brought by the defense. Nelson rules that Trayvon Martin's familiarity with guns, his marijuana use, and fights he may have been in cannot be brought up in Zimmerman's trial. She also denies a request to take the jury to the crime scene. Nelson, however, rules that jurors will remain anonymous and will be referred to by numbers only. • 13. Comparing Frankenstein And Trayvon Martin Society's perception of others starts first with appearance which brings about isolation and racism against others appearing abnormal. This has been a recurring problem in the world for several centuries because people wrongfully judge values on looks. In real life minorities are perceived as criminals and in Gulliver's Travels, Gulliver is immediately seen as a threat because of his physical advantage. The main characters in Frankenstein, Gulliver's Travels, and Trayvon Martin in What happened the night Trayvon Martin died were persecuted because of how they seemed or looked on the outside. In these works individuals are othered which led to them being emotionally and physically harmed. In Shelley's Frankenstein, the creature was othered to the point that he resorted to violence. When the creature first encounters human beings they react with disturbance and exclusion which leads to his isolation. The creature recounts his story saying, "I had hardly placed my foot within the door, before the children shrieked, and one of the women fainted"(93). This quote shows how the Creature wants to be accepted into society, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important that the fictional stories address exclusion because it is still relevant today with situations such as Trayvon Martin. Ostracizing others as monsters or criminals because they do not look normal is saddenning and ridiculous because it creates a divide in any population. Authors understand that this is not only for fictional characters and mythical creatures, but it is also a symbol for the people who are considered different in their area because of their appearance. Charles is a successful person, he is a musician, poet, author, and a Professor at Bryant & Stratton college. His TED Talk brought up valid points that everyone could agree with such as connotations that go along with words, colors, or flowers, nothing too serious. He also asks the audience about what connotations or stereotypes they would affiliate with the term black male, the crowd giving him mostly negative connotations or stereotypes that they have heard. He explains the negative impact this has on black men, that some may see it as an easier way to live than if they were to go against the stereotypes. This brings him to the case of ... Obama makes a note about the people who have resorted to signs and symbols as a way to take a side, whether it's a protest or in a jury. He also addresses African American men, saying, "There are very few African American men in this country who haven't had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store." Obama takes into mind all the language, symbols, and stereotypes that African Americans face even to this day. Being a political figure, Obama would most likely interpret Campbell's talk in a political way. There would be no favor to any certain topic that Campbell covered. Instead, Obama might consider the facts before crafting a response, as any smart political figure would do. He would be more likely to process Campbell's talk emotionally. There is evidence of this in his speech about the Trayvon Martin shooting when he sympathized with the Martin family, and expressed his emotions about the tragedy multiple times. It's hard to say whether or not his decision was influenced by race. On the surface, many people would say that his deeply emotional remarks could have been influenced by the fact that Martin was part of the African American community, but being the president requires a certain level of indifference when addressing ... • 19. Trayvon Martin Research Paper Did you know that unarmed black men are seven times more likely to die than white men? Racism is as old as human society itself. As long as human beings have been around, people have always seemed to have hated or feared people with a different skin color. Racism is just a part of the human nature. Trayvon Benjamin Martin was just 17 when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, in Sanford, Florida on February 2012. The murder of Trayvon Martin affected many people. The death of Martin was just the first of several deaths where a white person killed a black innocent person. Since the deaths weren't stopping the #BlackLivesMatter movement began. Trayvon Benjamin Martin was a 17 year old African American from Miami Gardens, Florida. He was badly shot by George Zimmerman; a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman called 911 to report that there was "suspicious person" walking through the neighborhood. He was told to not do anything, but he did anyway. As he approached Martin, he attacked him and shot him straight to the heart. The shooter, George Zimmerman, still has not faced any serious consequence for the murder. Many people in the Sanford community, and even around the country, believe that there is no question that Zimmerman should be convicted and sent to jail, but, unfortunately, it is not up to the people; it is up to the justice system. Then, the art of the hurt and angered surfaced and opened my eyes that I finally understood. Paintings of fists thrust into the air, black people being hung by the American flag, and the words inscribed on the building about injustice flooded my life. Minorities in America are, as we always are, fighting for the unalienable rights of human beings, rights that can be obtained through art. I have seen art affect me and those around me. Art has the power to destroy the foundation of the oppression of black people this country was built on. Art has the power to inform and move people and help them to see the problems of the world and inspires them to fix it. Art has the power to empower people and lift them up through adversity. It has held roots since the birth of America, a nation created for freedom yet many aren't free. It has caused hardships for people of color and has created division in America. Some believe racism died with the end of segregation or with the election of the first African American president, but the reality is racism and racial profiling is still a major problem in modern America. Racial profiling and racism is causing controversy in America and creating division in a nation when unity is needed. The shooting of Trayvon Martin is one of the most controversial incidents of the decade. Trayvon Martin was a young African American teen fallen victim to the evil of racial discrimination. One evening while walking home Trayvon was shot by a hispanic man named George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was on neighborhood patrol on a rainy day in Florida, and he noticed a black male walking through the neighborhood. He immediately jumped to conclusions and called the police who told him to leave the man walking alone because there was no need to follow him anyway, but Zimmerman did not listen. He confronted the young black male and after a little altercation Zimmerman shot the boy in an act of "self defense". Zimmerman killed someone because of a profile created based on the color of someone's skin. Now besides the fact that a young boy was killed due to racial profiling, what's even worse is the ... The cops were so scared it freaked me out. Then they rushed the car with their guns pointed at each angle of it thinking whoever they were looking for was in there. They describe Martin's life, personality, and the events leading up to the his death. Trayvon Martin is pictured as a normal teenage boy, in an attempt to persuade readers of his innocence and to remind readers of the tragedy of his short life. New York Times describes, "Trayvon was interested in girls, computer games, sports and the beat of the rap and hip–hop emanating from the ear buds of his smartphone" (Barry et al.). However, he is also depicted as an angel with statements such as, "Easygoing, with a default mood set at 'chillin". The word choices make him sound calm and non–violent. It details the life and hobbies of Trayvon Martin, in order to give perspective following the chaotic assumptions and lies caused by the shooting. By relating Martin to an average teenager, he seems harmless and innocent. This sources utilizes the placement and omission of words to sway the opinion of the readers. While it details Martin's innocence and dreams, it completely omits Zimmerman's story. The result of this is the reader relates and sympathizes with Martin, but Zimmerman remains mysterious, intimidating, and foreboding. The article appeals to pathos by describing Martin's dreams and potential. Readers are drawn in to connect and become familiar with Martin, but leaving Zimmerman's character to be ominous, mysterious, and the end of Martin's life. This models the relationship of farmers and their livestock. They do not name their animals, because it humanizes the animal and makes it harder to slaughter. Miami Herald was not reliable, in that it only showed half the story. However, it is useful in providing the reader with information about the family and who Martin was. • 59. The Case Of George Zimmerman And Trayvon Martin The incident involving George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was one that caught the interest of many Americans. Trayvon Martin, a young 17–year–old African American boy, was shot and killed during a dispute between him and George Zimmerman, a 28–year–old Hispanic man. Zimmerman was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the community and he called the police after Martin was acting very suspicious by looking into people's windows. One aspect in society that is a prominent issue is racism or racial profiling. This case shows the controversy over racial profiling in America. This also ties into the theoretical perspective of critical race theory. Critical race theory involves inequality related to racism. For many African–Americans the case had even deeper implications: Trayvon Martin, who had no criminal record, had been doing nothing more suspicious than walking. Many saw his death as another tragic example of racial profiling, the latest in a seemingly endless succession of unarmed Black men shot for appearing suspicious: Robbie Tolan, who survived being shot in his Bellaire, Texas, driveway in 2009 by a cop who thought he was trying to steal his own car; Amadou Diallo, shot and killed in 1999 in the Bronx when police mistook his wallet for a gun; Sean Bell, killed in 2008 on his wedding day in Queens, New York, by cops who thought he had a gun; Oscar Grant III, fatally shot by an Oakland transit cop on New Year's Day in 2009 while restrained and on the ground; and now Trayvon, with only a pack of Skittles and a can of iced tea in his possession, shot dead on a Florida street.(Amber, 2012) Although though Zimmernan was thought to be protecting the neighborhood his action before Trayvon's killing during trayvon's ... • 71. Why Is Trayvon Martin Wrong Trayvon Martin was an African American teenage boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman. They had an altercation and Zimmerman shot and killed Martin. Zimmerman states that it was self defense, even though Martin was unarmed. Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter, even though an unarmed teenager was killed wrongfully. An unknown author explicitly states "Neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman fatally shoots unarmed 17–year old Trayvon Martin" ("From Trayvon Martin to Walter Scott" 1). If it were a black man who shot a 17 year old white boy, more than likely the black man would plead guilty. A black man got killed just for selling CD's, but a white man raped a woman and only got 3 months in prison. Another great example of this double standard would be the case of a 31 year old black woman named Marissa Alexander. She shot a warning shot at her husband whom is abusive. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Patricia J.
