I am looking for a publishing company that follows the
same ideology that I want my magazine to. Therefore, I
have looked into 2 different magazines and their
publishers therefore knowing which is company for me.
TimeInc publishes NME
Mission statement: “NME is at the forefront of music culture –
setting agendas, instigating debate and championing exciting
artists of all genre”
TimeInc and NME’s mission statement does not correspond with my
ideas for my magazine. For my own magazine, I would love to have
“instigated debates”, however I am trying to focus of one genre in
particular, Indie/Rock, therefore “artists of all genres” does not fit with
my ideologies.
Publishers of Q magazine are Bauer Media
Group.
Mission statement: “Q is the ultimate guide to modern music,
distilling it down o the good stuff. Well respected by artists and
labels, we have unrivalled access to modern music’s biggest
names.
I agree with the mission statement from Bauer Media group,
however, I could not tell if they specialised in a particular genre
of music. As a result I researched into the other things that they
publish.
• Absolute radio
• Kerrang
• Kiss
• Metro2radio
• MoJo
Although Bauer Media publishes a lot
radio that is a very similar genre to
mine, I have decided to look at
another music magazine that they
publish to compare and find
difference and similarities.
Q and Kerrang, both use similar
colours and the layout and design of
the magazine both follow the
conventions of an indie/rock music
magazine.
I like both their styles and believe that my target audience would also
like the style that Bauer Media Group has created
From looking at different publishing company's, I have
come to the conclusion that both magazines and therefore
Bauer Media Company although don’t specify their genre,
do focus more on indie/Rock as well as having the same
ideologies which I found out from their mission statement.
In conclusion, I would have Bauer Media Group (a mainstream
company) publish my magazine.
Bauer Media Group on its own website, shows al l the different types of
media that they do. They promote themselves and their popularity, for
example it says ’22million people, 107 brands, Radio, Digital, TV, Magazine,
Live’. This shows us all the different types of media that they create and are
involved in. As you can see on the image, they produce radio stations like
‘Absolute radio’ as well as others such as ‘Metro2radio’ and do not just stick
to magazines, making them a very well know mainstream company.
Bauer Media Group, as well as
showing who they are on the
back of each of their
magazines, they also present
themselves on the internet
through their own website, as
well as producing many
different radio stations.
By researching how and what Bauer Media Group promote
themselves, I would hope to promote my magazine on their
website and be one of the main adverts on there. If I could
achieve this, it would reach my target audience quicker and
people would be able to access news about my magazine faster.
Moreover, having learned of the
amount of media that Bauer Media
Group produce, I could promote my
magazine on one of their many radio
stations and connect with my target
audience this way as well.
