How did you use new
media technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages?
Pre-production.
YouTube was key in pre production as it gave me an insight into pre existing products in
the genre of my music video. YouTube allowed me to become a prosumer as well as a
consumer. I also used YouTube to investigate music videos that weren’t in my genre in
order to apply things such as Goodwin’s theory. This allowed me to decide what type of
music video I wanted to create where that be disjuncture, illustration or amplification. I
ultimately throughout this research decided I wanted to create an illustration music video.
Tools such as slide share and prezi allowed me to create different types of blog post to
document my research and planning and show my different use of ICT. These tools
allowed me to create different presentations for different things for example using
prezi to create a pitch and treatment presentation that flows and can link different
aspects together.
Pre-production.
Blogger was key for my pre-production as it allowed me to document my research
and planning. Within blogger you can embed presentations from Prezi and SlideShare
and everything is listed in a time order. I chose for a lot of my blog posts that I
wanted to make them tie in together such as including my finalised digipak and all of
the decisions I made in the creation process. This did mean for less blog posts but in
my opinion allowed for more a better flow within the whole blog.
Production.
A camera was key for my production as it was one of the ways I captured
my raw footage. I also used my iPhone to record some of my footage, this
was mainly when I was out and I saw an opportunity of something I thought
would make a good shot this for example happened when I was walking
with the star of my music video and saw a wooded area I thought would
make a good addition and may have wanted to add to my final edited
product. In using an iPhone I did not get as higher quality shots as when
using a camera however as long as I used it landscape and chose an area
with good lighting it worked just as well and resulted in a lot of the shots I
chose to include in my final product.
Post production.
Once my footage was shot I used iMovie to edit the footage
together. I used iMovie to crop, change the speed, add a filter etc.
This allowed me to create a music video that fit into my genre and
looked professional. I could also upload my song to iMovie to
ensure that the lip singing fit perfectly with the timing of the music.
I used Corel PaintShop Pro x9 in order to edit my digipak. This was
useful because I was able to change the brightness, contrast, apply
filters and edit colouring very slightly.
I used my Dr Dre beats during the editing process this is because
while editing there was a lot of background noise and this made it
difficult for me to hear and ensure that the lip singing was in time. I
used these headphones because they are noise cancelling. These
were absolutely essential to my editing process.
Post production.
Although I used I movie for my editing I used a windows
computer to create my digipak, magazine advert. This was
because the layout of a window computer was easier for me in
the creation process.
