Evaluation question 4
1. EVALUATION
QUESTION 4
How did you use new media
technologies in the construction,
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. BLOGSPOT
o After using BlogSpot last year to record my progress throughout my
A-level coursework, I have decided to use it again. I am familiar with
the layout and think it works really well to produce all my work.
o I personalised my blog to make it more personal to my work. I did
this so my work can be reflected to the reader visually.
o Blogger is very useful when I have needed to urgently look back at
work during the filming an editing stages of production.
3. RESEARCH & PLANNING
Internet
Research
During the research process of my coursework we had to analyse and develop our knowledge of
music videos. YouTube is a video-sharing website which is the best place to watch and annotate
music videos. I used this website to find typical conventions of a music video that I could use in
my own video.
I used the google to discover secondary research. I
researched record companies, artists, magazines, Digipaks
etc. The internet is perfect for quick access to a mass
amount of knowledge and helped me a lot during my
research stage of my coursework.
4. Emaze
I used Emaze to embed presentations into my blog filled with research, evaluative responses
etc. I used Emaze as I found the layout to be complex in a simple matter. It created a
professional aspect on my blog and showcased my work effectively.
Slide Share
During the research and planning stages of my coursework, I decided to present the
information on another platform called Slide Share. On the multiple occasions that I used
Slide Share I would change the format in regard to colour, layout and text fonts. This
makes it more engaging for the audience. Embedding images, giffs and videos helps to
illustrate the text written. To use Slide Share you create a PowerPoint, using Microsoft
PowerPoint then uploading it to Slide Share so it can be shown on my Blog.
5. VIDEO
Canon : 700D
I used the Canon to capture all of the footage used for my music video. I chose this camera as I
used it during my AS media and found it very comfortable using, from this I could build on my
skills for this years filming. I set it to auto during the filming so everything was as it should be
as the image picked up could be as best as possible. The 700D has a touch screen feature
which made it more difficult to focus during rotating and tracking shots but was easier during
performance elements. I filmed a lot of my music video outdoors, the camera allowed for good
control over aperture to change depending on the background. This allowed for crisp clear
outdoor shots through shutter speed and white balance (which helped to enhance the colours).
Tripod
During shots filmed on the rooftop and most outdoor shots I
used a tripod to keep the camera steady to reduce shakiness
throughout my takes.
6. LIGHTING
Handheld
During the performance aspects of my music video I used hand held lights. These
worked really effectively to light up the artist without creating too much lighting. I
wanted to create a subtle lighting which would make the artist visible but not so clear.
An advantage with hand held lights are the multiple settings which can be used. This
worked very effectively during my dance shots where I was able to use strobe settings.
And give a white or orange glow to the light.
7. Natural Lighting
During the outdoor shots I used
natural lighting. I chose a nice sunny
day to film the shots on the roof. For
continuity reasons, when re filming I
had to wait for a day where the sun
was out so it didn’t seem like time had
jumped.
Fairy Lights
I incorporated fairy lights during
the performance aspects with
my artist. It wasn't used as an
aspect to light up the artist but
more to give an aesthetic effect
to the video. However, it did
help to light up her face slightly.
8. EDITIN
GI have worked with Premier Pro a lot over the past three years throughout my GCSE and A
levels, because of this I feel very confident with platform. We used the newest update of the
software so there was room for learning new aspects. Editing a music video allowed me to play
around with colour ratio’s and editing techniques. Getting creative with my colours was my solo
intention for the editing process, I wanted to create a visually vibrant video to express the love
between the two girls. After trial and error of using different tones through the ‘Colour
Balance’, I settled on the ‘SL BIG’ effect through the ‘Lumetri Colour-Creative’ setting. I chose
this because it worked especially well with the colours green and blue which appeared a lot in
my video.

Working on premier pro I
was also able to create beat
marks which worked really
effectively to helping me edit
to the beat of the music,
which was a convention I was
following. This helped to
give it a really professional
look.
9. PHOTOS
HOP
Prior to the ancillary texts I had never really used
Photoshop properly before. I only knew the basic
elements from the GCSE course. To get my head around
this media technology I watched a lot of YouTube tutorials
to teach myself skills needed to edit my ancillary texts.
I used a lot of layers during my editing process. To do this I used the
adjustment section of Photoshop to layer up on the vibrancy and
exposure of the picture. To follow on from my vibrant music video, I
wanted my ancillary texts to resemble to same vibrancy. I wanted it
to be very eye-catching.
I also used a flow of colour scheme throughout my
ancillaries, this entailed of a light pink and a turquoise
blue/green.
10. An example of my editing techniques was during the magazine advert I was
able to blur out the features of my models skin which wouldn't have given it
a professional look within the music industry. I did this by giving her very
clear skin, enhancing her makeup and removing the freckles from her
shoulders. I used the same technique to use make the mattress she was
lying on jet black, covering up all of the unwanted marks. On these images
you can clearly see where everything has been enhanced.

11. EVALUAT
ION
To present my evaluation I used a
different platform for each question.
Question 1
I edited videos for my DIGIPAK and Magazine Advert evaluation and I
created a Slide share for my music video evaluation.
I edited videos because I believed that that it was the best format to
present my work and evaluate around it. It also makes it engaging
and exciting for the reader. I did not film any footage for these
videos but used images and screenshots of my work and edited it all
together. I wrote and recorded a voice over with a zoom mic and
edited it all together accordingly.
I used a slide share for my music video evaluation as I wanted to
incorporate a lot of Gify’s to demonstrate what I was evaluating. I
was also really skilled with the platform as I had sued it throughout
the blogging process of my course.
12. QUESTION 2
I used Emaze as the platform to present question 2 of my evaluation.
I am very used to the layout of Emaze as it was the platform I have
used the most to present my work throughout the blogging process. I
am able to keep the reader engaged through the different colours
and layouts.
13. QUESTION 3
Question 3 was my favourite question to create for
my blog. I decided to film and interview some
people who fitted my target audience and edit a
video to answer the question. I was able to layer
over a track of music to keep it nice and engaging
for the viewer and put my skills of editing to its final
test.
I filmed them on the 700 D canon as it was the
camera I had used throughout this entire process
and I feel extremely confident filming with it at this
point. The touch screen element really allowed me to
stay in focus.
I edited this video on Adobe Premier Pro CS16 as this is the software I have been used to editing on and
progressed my skills on. Doing this video allowed me to really clearly see what my target audience think
about my products and sum it up nicely in one place whilst also making it fun and exciting.
The only problem I found with filming this was the sound. As I am not yet very skilled with sound as my
music video had a music track layered on top of the shots, You can hear the camera focus’s itself all
throughout the interview sections of the video.
