Rio Grande Valley Research Paper
The Rio Grande Valley The Rio Grande Valley is a small place at the bottom of Texas, but it might
be one of my favorite places. The reasons that the valley is my favorite place is because of my
family, friends, and the culture. The Valley is important to me because it is the place I was born and
most of my family live there. My family is very big, but somehow most of them live in the valley
because we think family is one of the most important things in the world. My grandma that lives in
the valley is the person that raised me and my brother she has been their almost her whole life, but
without her I don't think that the valley would be my favorite place to be. When we have parties
with my family it could be about anything a football game, graduation, birthday and many more, but
in the end the best thing about the parties was that we were ... Show more content on

If you have ever gone to Mexico and go back to the valley sometimes you will think that you never
left Mexico and you just went in a circle. The Valley is about 95% Hispanic and about 50% of us
speak Spanish and in the Valley, it's not like other places where they have TEX–MEX. The valley is
the complete opposite because we have more of a Hispanic culture than an American culture. There
are places in the Valley, where it has a lot of American culture, but there are places in the same town
or city where you think you just traveled to Mexico because stores where all they have is stuff from
Mexico so that you don't drive to Mexico. If you ever go to the valley the things you have to be
careful about is if you go to a Mexican restaurant that you have to find out if any of the people who
work there speak English because if you don't know Spanish you are going to have a difficult time
trying to order. The culture to me is one of a kind because there is no other place like it in the

The Aztecs
Aztecs
The origin of the Aztecs remains uncertain to this day. Most people believe that the Aztecs
originated a northern hunter–gatherer tribe. The Aztecs also took on the names Tenochca or Mexica.
Their arrival happened close to the end of the fall of the civilization called Toltec's. In fact, The
Aztecs might have helped start the fall of the Toltec's. The Aztecs decided to settle on the marshy
land of the southwest border of lake Texcoco because they saw an eagle perched on a cactus and
saw it as a sign. The Aztecs built artificial islands to plant crops on and establish foundations for
their capital city called Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs grew corn, beans, squashes, potatoes, tomatoes, and
avocadoes. The Aztecs Supported themselves with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking the name Pachacuti, Inca Yupanqui became one of Inca's most influential rulers. The Military
campaigns extended the kingdom to the southern end of the Titicaca Basin. Hundreds of miles north
to subject the Cajamarca and Chimu kingdoms. The Inca Religion was based on a pantheon of gods
that include Inti; a creator god named Viracocha; and Apu lllapu, the rain god. There were
impressive shrines that were built in the kingdom, that include the Sun Temple in Cusco that was
more than 1,200 feet in circumference. Priest depended on divination to diagnose illness, solve
crimes, and predict the outcomes of warfare. This required sacrifice. The mummified remains of
previous emperors were also treated as if they were sacred figures and paraded around at ceremonies
with stores of gold and silver. The only written accounts of the Inca were composed by outsiders, its
myths and culture passed to generations by storytellers. Little bits and pieces of its existence were
mainly found in the ruins of cities and Temples. In 1911 archaeologist Hiram Bingham discovered
the 15th century mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu's magnificent stone structures

Class Structure, Warfare, Family Life, Religious...
Class structure, warfare, family life, religious practices, and agriculture are all aspects of the Aztec's
culture. The Aztecs had a legend about the beginning of their empire. The legend said that the gods
will send an eagle perched on a cactus and have a snake in its mouth. This was than the right place
to build their empire. The Aztecs were a powerful empire that prospered.
The first important aspect in the Aztec's culture was class structure. At the top of the structure is the
ruler. The ruler was considered semi–divine and the spot was not hereditary. When the emperor died,
a group of advisors chose the next emperor. Nobles came next on the list. The most common jobs
for nobles were government officials, priests, and military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another important aspect of the Aztec's culture was family life. Men build the house and worked as
farmers or craftsmen. Women cooked, watched the garden, and looked after animals. The Aztecs
believed that the most important job for a woman was to bare and care for a child. When boys were
young, they fetched water and wood and attended school. The commoner boys would only attended
school half the time, while noble boys stayed there to learn their jobs. When they grew older, they
would learn how to fish, how to handle a canoe, and went to the market with their fathers. Young
girls were taught how to weave. Family life was important because without everyone doing a job,
they wouldn't have became a great empire.
An equally important aspect of their culture is religion. The Aztecs believed in many gods. Their
primary god was Huitzilopochtli, the sun god. The Aztecs believe that the sun fights against
darkness and they need to help him by giving him blood. To please Huitzilopochtli, priests sacrificed
hundreds of birds in the morning. They thought that the best sacrifice was blood from people, in
particular the blood of a warrior captured in battle. Some people sacrificed themselves willingly
thinking that they would accompany the sun god's daily battle. Religious practices were important
because most of what the Aztecs did was to please the gods. The last important aspect of the Aztec's
culture is agriculture. The land around

Spain 's Conquest Of Mexico
My name is Marco Valencia; formerly one of Hernan Cortes` conquistadors. I am writing this
memoir about Spain 's conquest of Mexico. The Spanish conquistador that overthrew the Aztec
Empire was Cortes. Cortes was a genius man; he knew that he needed to create allies with those
who didn't like the Aztecs in order to defeat them, and so he did. Not only that but Cortes used
Christianity to his advantage, the Aztecs believed that Cortes was some sort of a god and that he was
there to rule over the Aztec empire. Cortes was a smart man he knew about Motecuhzoma`s fear and
used it to his advantage, all Cortes really wanted, what he was most driven about was the gold the
Aztecs had in their power. Gold was Cortes motivation, he wanted all the gold he could find nothing
was enough if he didn't have gold. "When the fighting ended, Cortes demanded the gold his men had
abandoned in the Canal of the Toltecs during the Night if Sorrows" (B.S. 120). "The Aztecs
unloaded it from the canoes: there were bars of gold, gold crowns, gold ornaments for the arms and
legs, gold helmets and disks of gold" (B.S. 120). "Cortes said: "Is this all the gold in the city? You
must bring me all of it" (B.S. 120).
The man who faced Cortes was Motecuhzoma, the ruler the priest. Motecuhzoma who was the
Aztec emperor of Mexico foolishly believed that Cortes was in deed a god. Motecuhzoma feared the
god's arrival and when Cortes arrived to Mexico City he opened the doors to him and the rest of the
Spaniards.

Essay On The Aztecs
In 1519, the Aztecs were the most powerful kingdom in Mesoamerica. At the peak of their reign,
their territory stretched as far as 80,000 square miles over southern Mexico, and had as many as
fifteen million people.
The Aztecs emerged in the thirteenth century, as a nomadic tribe. They were guided by their chief
god, Huitzilopochtli, the war god and representative of the sun. The Aztecs couldn 't find a place to
settle in the crowded central Mexico. Eventually, they were taken as serfs and mercenaries by the
Colhuacan. Their population increased as they married the women that belonged to their neighbors.
Eventually, the lowly Aztecs received a Toltec princess for their chief In 1323, the Aztecs sacrificed
the princess with the belief that she would become a war goddess. The Colhuacan were horrified,
and expelled the Aztecs from their territory.
The Aztecs, no longer a hungry band of nomads, but a group of wise people after serving the
Colhuacan, set out to find a new territory once again. They traveled southwest to the borders of the
lakes that once surrounded Mexico City. There, they found two unoccupied, marshy islands that they
quickly took and claimed as their own. They believed they were chosen by the gods and foretold
that they would find a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus
devouring a snake. Eventually, on a deserted island, they saw the majestic sight. Around 1345, under
the rule of the ChiefTenoch, they had

The City Of The Aztec Empire
When thinking of ancient, urban centers many think of ancient capitals such as Rome, Athens, or
Cairo. However, across the Atlantic Ocean in Central and South America, there were a number of
growing urban centers being built by the Aztec, Mayan, and Incan civilizations. An example of a
Central American urban center is Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Aztec
capital which is located in present–day Mexico–City, Mexico. The development of this ancient city
was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social
organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center and
as the capital of the Aztec's civilization was able to flourish.
Similarly to modern–day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or
not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for
resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the
only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers,
lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or
not a location has favorable ecology (28). Tenochtitlan is often compared to Europe's Venice due to
its structure and location within the Valley of Mexico. The landscape of the Valley of Mexico
consisted of multiple lakes and "resembled a water–filled

The Broken Spears Essay
The Broken Spears "The Broken Spears" is a collection of many accounts of the destruction of
Mexico by Cortes and the conquistadors in their invasion. The motive behind this conquest was
Cortes' desire to bring a fortune of gold, spices, and land that can be claimed, back to Spain.
Although these desires were admirable, they were sought after at the expense of the Aztecs and
consequently changed an entire civilization, due to an initial drive for power, control, land, and
money. Cortez along with the Spaniards ultimately destroys the Aztecs in their quest for fortune and
fame. The accounts are based on the Aztec's perception of the invasion and include the revolt of the
Aztec people that lead to the terror and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montezuma's attempts to keep the Spaniard away from the Tenochtitlan included everything from
sending out magicians and warlocks hoping that they could harm the Spaniards with their magic, to
sending out captives to be sacrificed in their presence. With each failed attempt to prevent the
Spaniards from entering Tenochtitlan, came the rising fears of the "inevitable". As the Spaniard
began to inquire about Montezuma, he contemplated fleeing and escaping the "gods". Due to
Montezuma's failed attempts, Cortez and the Spaniards decided to begin marching In–land, in their
arrival to Tlaxcala and Cholula. One could argue that the invasion of these cities was due to the
defiance and the fact that they would not surrender to Cortez's control. During the march Cortez
gained a larger army and allies. Once Cortez and the Spaniards reached the entrance of Tenochtitlan
their march was complete. Montezuma then prepared to greet Cortez. According to the text, "He
presented many gifts to the Captain and his commanders, those who had come to make war. He
showered gifts upon them and hung flowers around their necks; he gave them necklaces of flowers
and bands of flowers to adorn their breasts; he set garlands of flowers upon their heads. Then he

spanish arrived with the spanish captain Hernán Cortés. The mission they were provided was to go

people were ¼ population wiped out. According to Miguel León–Portilla's The Broken Spears: The
Aztec Account of the Conquest of Mexico, it says: "This explains the Aztecs' surprise when the
Spaniards, who they saw as their guests, suddenly turned on them without any known motive or
customary ritual warning." This evidence shows that the Aztec were surprised not by the alliance but
by the reason that they got surprised and the weapons they saw for the very first

empire. The Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán is built on an island in the middle of a lake traversed by
great causeways, a beautiful, strictly regulated, stone–built city of three hundred thousand residents.
The primary language of the Aztec people is Nahuatl and we will provide a guide/translator when

Rise Of Aztecs Migration To The Valley Of Mexico
In about the 12 century AD, the Aztecs migrated to the valley of Mexico. There they would create a
settlement on an Island located on lake Texcoco. From the time of their establishing this settlement
onward, the Aztecs would steadily rise to prominence. This rise was due in part to strategic
planning, technological development, and trade. Though, there decline would come swiftly with the

The development of the capital city of Tenochtitlan involved a great deal of technological
achievement that would help bolster their place as the dominant society in Mesoamerica. Some of
these technological advantages included, aqueducts that provided clean water, and dikes that

The Aztec empire began when groups of nomads and wanderers in the wilderness of what is now
South America joined together. They arrived in the Mexican Valley between 1200 and 1267 A.D. At
the time, the Mexican Valley was a rich environment, full of deep plentiful soils with shallow
swamps and lakes full of fish, turtles, insects, and blue–green algae. The Aztecs resided there and
began to expand and invade other territories for a variety of reasons: in order to obtain goods and
land to support a growing population, a more abundant supply of sacrificial victims, and to maintain
their religious beliefs that the lands of Mexico were theirs by "divine right". The expansion and
movement of the Aztecs had a distinct effect on the Mexican Valley and surrounding areas. Their
capital, Tenochtitlon, was constructed in the middle of Lake Lexcoco and eventually a new lake–
based agricultural system was established. As the Aztec population flourished, central Mexico was
transformed into a "social landscape" with plentiful resources (Teresi, 342–4).
When Cortes witnessed the native lifestyle and traditions in "breadbasket of the Valley of Mexico,"
he took the opportunities given to him, mainly through chance, and overthrew Montezuma,

The Aztecs And The Aztec Civilization
The Aztecs had one of the most successful and advanced empires of all time. They had a dwelling
culture The Aztec civilization was located directly in the middle of two mountain ranges in the
central valley of Mexico ( Platt 10). Although the Aztec empire eventually came to an end they were
able to do well as an empire. Contributing factors that led to the rise of the empire was their political
structure, social components, and religious traditions which they preformed earnestly.
The Aztecs were one of the last tribes to arrive in Mexico, in 1195 CE, when they arrived in the
Valley of Mexico other tribes had taken the best land so the Aztecs were left with the swampy
shores. They soon adapted and began to conquer their neighboring tribes. They continued to expand
until they had their very own empire. The empire continued to thrive, until the Spanish arrived and
had a fixed mind set on wanting the empires region of land. Although Social classes made a
significant contribution to the culture, by organizing and controlling the people, there were ways for
movement between classes. "Aztecs had three main social classes which included the nobility,
commoner, and slaves. Children were born into their classes, however on rare occasion children who
had some high level of skill could rise above their parent 's social status" ("Society." Great Empires

Aztec Influence
During the 16th century, European countries were interested in exploration and conquering of new
lands. In particular, The Spanish were eager to claim some of the New Land as their own. Hernan
Cortez was an explorer sent by Spain, and he landed in Mesoamerica to meet the Aztec Empire. He
later went on to conquer the strong Aztec Civilization and did so without regard for the lives and
culture of the Aztecs. The Aztecs were oppressed as a result of their foolishness and naivety coupled
with The Spaniard's will to take advantage of them and those traits in particular. The oppression was
acted out through the enslavement of Aztecs, war against the Aztecs, and the eventual conquest of
their civilization and the destruction of their culture (History.com). ... Show more content on

The Aztecs were considered an empire and ruled land along the Valley of Mexico. Their land
stretched coast to coast between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico and was continually
expanding (Tangen). They had a powerful army and alliances with fellow tribes. They ruled more
than 500 small states, and were populated with about five or 6 million people. In the middle of it all
was their beloved capital city, Tenochtitlan. The city alone was home to 140,000 of the Aztec people
and so popular that it was the densest city that has existed in Mesoamerica. The people of the Aztec
Civilization were advanced socially. Their society was structured in classes of nobles, indentured
servants and slaves, in descending order of social status. Each class had an important role to creating
a fully developed society (History.com). The Aztecs valued art, and spent a large amount of time and
expensive resources to make it. The art was so special that only the upper class Aztecs were allowed
to own it. They made things like jewelry, pottery, statues, and painted walls (Ancient Aztec Art). The
economy of the Aztecs had to be successful to supply their whole civilization. Trade was a main part
of their economy that made most of their money. In addition, trade was important for them to have a
way to receive materials they would not be able to obtain in their own land. The Aztecs were also
skilled farmers and were able to sell all of their crops also. The main marketplaces were also located
in the main and busy cities to make sure everyone could have access to it (Aztec Economy Trade
and Currency). The Aztec's religion was important among the people and they built temples,
palaces, and statues for worship towards their gods. Another notable aspect of their religion is their
practice of human sacrifice

Economic Characteristics Of The Aztec And Inca Empires
In the 1400's through the 1500"s there were the Aztec and Inca empires, both were empires that
started out as marginalized peoples who conquered and absorbed other cultures. Aztec and Inca
Empires were based on managing resources, goods, and people in an economy centered on intensive
agriculture including having their currency systems. The economic characteristics of the Aztec and
Inca empires were similar in that they both changed their environment to improve their agricultural
system and they both focused on internal trade networks, however they differed in the way they
taxed their people. The Aztecs were a triple alliance; three city states that banded together for the
greater good. The joined civilizations were Mexico–Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The Incas
were located around modern day Peru, and are known as the largest empire in the pre–Columbian
America.
The economic characteristics of the government differed from how they collected revenue. So, the
Inca government had a totalitarian complex government whether as Aztecs had a decentralized
government that focused on expansion. In document 4, it explains how the Aztecs required
conquered lands to pay a tribute. Aztecs would pay in goods and services rather than currency. From
the source document 5 Pedro de Cieza de Léon describes the Inca rule, that there was a king or
emperor, as well as representatives for each province. As for the aztecs as mentioning that they
formed a triple alliance, they did not end up

Tenochtitl Place In Mexico
Did you know that Tenochtitlan was a place in Mexico?
So was Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl. They were both during the Aztecs days also. Tenochtitlan
was doing really good with its irrigation system. The city was built in a huge valley which was

Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl were two mountains that were in Tenochtitlan.
In Tenochtitlan there was a least about 200,000 people that lived there at that time. Most of the
houses there was a one story and had a flat roof. People in Tenochtitlan traveled by canoes since
there was few roads. At one point of time Tenochtitlan reach it greatest, with about 1 million people
that lived in the valley of Mexico. Most of the population in Tenochtitlan were farmers, and as the
city grew, more land was used for farming and all that stuff. Tenochtitlan main crop was corn, and
farmers also grew tomatoes, beans, chili peppers, and prickly pears. Nobles houses was built like a

Are you aware that chinampas were given the beautiful nickname, "floating gardens", by the
Spanish (American Indian History Online)? This was due to the fact that they were basically islands
used for the soul purpose of vegetation, situated on swamps and canals. The Aztecs were very
resourceful. Most of their land was swamp and canals, so it was extremely hard to grow food let
alone provide it for their entire civilization. Therefore, the wove together tree bark, and let it float on
top of these swamps. Then, they would take any fertile soil they could find, including from inside
the swamps, and dumped it on the platform. They would also have to add human fecal matter to

It is truly fascinating how these islands made such a colossal difference in the civilization of the
Aztecs. Chinampas also saved the capital of the Aztec Empire, Tenochtitlan, from starving. Their
capital alone had a whopping 150,000–200,000 people (Investigating Chinampa Farming). The
thing is that the majority of them weren't even food producers (Investigating Chinampa Farming).
This was a very troubling dilemma that chinampas were the solution to. In fact, chinampas produced
an estimated one–half to two–thirds of the food consumed in Tenochtitlan (Investigating Chinampa
Farming)! That is absolutely astounding. Without chinampas, the Aztec Empire would be
scrambling for food due to their swampy location. But fortunately, they did have chinampas. In
addition, chinampas utilized a method of transport that would in turn benefit their civilization. The
Aztecs built chinampas in a specific way; parallel to each other (Aztec History). This repetitive yet
clever arrangement produced a complex system of canals (Aztec History). This allowed canoes to
through these canals. All of this was cause by the creation of chinampas.
Furthermore, this created an efficient method of delivery and travel. This way, canoes could simply
row up next to chinampa and load different crops and plants. Then, they could navigate their way

the sky would be their court, and the sun would be their ball. The results of a game would tell the
priest what would happen in the future. (Steele, 21&25.)
I found many interesting facts during this study, and the most interesting fact, which I found was
one of the Aztecs ancient beliefs. The Aztecs said that where they would find an eagle on a cactus
with a snake in its mouth, which is where they would build their city. (Stuart, 69.) They found a
snake on a cactus with a eagle in its mouth and built their city on it. The city was named Tenochit.
This tremendous city was their home, and in the center they had Pyramids where they would make
their sacrifices for their gods. This city is now what makes the heart of the huge capital of Mexico,
Mexico City. And the emblem in which the Aztecs had pictured of an eagle on a cactus with a snake
in its mouth can now be found on the flag of Mexico.

The Aztec Of Aztecs And Spanish Conquistadors
The events that occurred between the Aztecs and Spanish Conquistadors have many sides and
opportunities for debate. One of the most debated topics being; Who was more savage and who was
more Civil? Both the Aztecs and Spanish had powerful and thriving empires. These empires
displayed their dominance through their advanced technology and flourishing military. Though it
may seem that the Spanish were more advanced than the Aztecs, the Aztecs and Spanish were
actually quite close to being equal in technological advancements.
The Aztec empire has been said to be the "greatest engineers in the Americas" and rival the Roman
Empire in technology. The Aztec Empire had luxurious pyramids, temples and a gleaming capital
city called Tenochtitlan, that in its golden years, was said to house over 200,000–250,000 Aztecs.
Tenochtitlan was larger than Rome, London and Madrid put together. On top of it's large population,
the people and streets were very pristine. The Tenochtitlan citizens took daily baths to ensure they
were fully clean. Infact, Tenochtitlan had public baths and lavatories for the citizens.
Tenochtitlan was built on a lake island called Aztlan and over the lake, the Aztecs built fertile,
floating farms called "Chinampas".The people who inhabited the Aztlan Island were originally
called the Mexica people. The name Aztec is derived from the name of the Island. However
primitive this empire may seem, the Emperors were quite affluent. They had lavish possessions

Social Order (customs, education, family life, class and caste, leisure activities, decision–making,

For the Aztecs, there were mainly four classes that made up the Aztec social order. On the very top,
was the emperor and nobles, then in the middle class were artisans, who sold stuff and were also
merchants, and towards the bottom were commoners, who are just normal people, then at the very
bottom were slaves, either captured from war, or raised to be a slave from being a kid.
Belief Systems (Religions, myths, rituals)
The Aztecs were polytheistic and believed in over 1,000 Gods. They believed that human sacrifice
and ceremonies, kept the gods alive, which mean they were mortal gods. But when Montezuma ii
came along, he demanded more human sacrifices. The Aztecs also created a Calendar, to determine
when to have religious ceremonies, which again, is what they did to keep the gods alive. The main

The Aztecs were a marvelous civilization that were located in the Americas, from 1350 to 1519.

the Aztec culture is known for are their complex farming methods and their somewhat disturbing
religious beliefs. However historians should emphasize the role of agriculture in the Aztec

Geography Of The Aztecs
Geography for the Aztecs was quite different from the other city–states in Mexico. The Aztecs had
to take the land in Mexico that was left, and there wasn't much land left. The Aztecs saw an eagle
sitting on top of a cactus, this was a religious sign and it said that they should live there. The cactus
where they saw the eagle, was located on a little island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, so they had
little land to thrive off of. The island was a swampy place, surrounded my mountains. When the
Aztecs first moved into the their new land, they interacted with other places. The Aztecs used their
warrior skills and became mercenaries for other city–states. In 1500, they had an empire, this empire

This was a new farming technique where they were able to grow corn, tomatoes, beans, squash and
peppers. This gave the Aztecs a wonderful food supply, which helped the population of the Aztecs
grow rapidly. Once the Aztecs started growing wealth through trade, they started using conquest to
conquer other city–states and gain more wealth. The Aztecs has a class system. First in the class
system was the Emperor, the emperor was the almighty ruler of everyone. Second, Nobles came
after the emperor, they ran the government and army usually. Third in the class system were the
artisans, the artisans were usually artisans or market people. Fourth in the system were the
commoners, the commoners were usually farmers. Finally in the class system were slaves, slaves

Brief History Of The Aztecs: The Valley Of Mexico
2000 years ago, the Valley of Mexico was the site of Teotihuacan, where the traveling Aztecs
decided to settle down. The Aztecs chose this spot because of a sign, a bird on a cactus holding a
serpent in its mouth. Aztecs were forced to build their city on an island in the middle of Lake
Texcoco. They were protected by water and boats brought goods from the shore. They also use
causeways, roads built over water, to transport goods. Aztecs used the cacao seed for currency
because they were so valuable to their people. Toltecs, ruled over the valley for 200 years. Under the

Similarities And Differences Of The Inca And Aztec Empires
Throughout the previous time, pre–European civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec and Inca
empires were separate and distinct civilizations. The two civilizations stayed with no question very
progressed and had their own intricated but very efficient society. Polytheism (who beliefs in
multiple gods) dominated both empires. They adored ideals broadly and fascinatingly, the Sun God
maintained the high place in mutually civilizations. However, both civilizations shared some
similarities, there were remarkable differences among the two empires. These contrasts and
similarities could be observed in many significant ways.
Religion was key component between both civilizations that I could clearly say their firm believes
in their lords. For instance, both empires needed human sacrifices to sustain living, they both
accumulated many temples in which they offered presents and sacrifices to their lords, and they both
had feasts where they expressed their generosity to their admired lords. The Inca and Aztec Empire
were quite different too when it was about their religion. The Inca for example prayed the sun god
Inti in a representative manner with ceremonies in temples. The Aztecs thought the Sun would only
stay awake if it established the most valued thing they had, which was human lifeblood. They
scarified chiliad of people a year and presented them often. It was very occasional for the Inca.

A civilised society or country is one that has a powerful structure of culture, government and way of
life for the people who live there. This means the ability to delight all the residents fairly. A civilised
society has an exceedingly high–established society and a strong middle class of people. It is also
developed and well organised, which includes fair laws and rules about the behaviour to others. A
modern civilised society has intellectual and moral advancement focused on education, safety and a
high quality of life.

Short Essay About The Aztecs
The Aztecs were a complex civilization, I don't know much about the Aztec Civilization, I only
know the outline. The reason why I chose the Aztecs is because I played a few video games growing
up playing as that civilization, and they have always made me more interested in them. What I
know, is eventually they came upon a spot with an eagle sitting on a cactus with a serpent wrapped
in it's legs, that's where Tenochtitlan would be built. Montezuma was their leader, he was fierce and
strict, but at the same time kind hearted and understanding, but nobody mistook his kindness for
weakness, except for the Spanish. The Aztecs would fight enemies and enslave the rebellions and
sacrifice them. The ones that cooperated, would have to pay tributes every few weeks though. Those
people could live a normal life, just under Aztec control. They built things called skyfarms. Those
farms were very well designed and worked in the desert setting they lived in. The Aztecs ... Show

Did they ever skip a day and know the sun rises the next day? Or did they never find out? What I
want to know the most though, is how their leader Montezuma allowed the Spanish in with open
arms, and let them harass him and his economy, and he let it happen, was he brainwashed into
thinking the Spanish were the new leaders? The last thing I would like to know about is the rise and
fall of the empire, where did they get all of their resources to build those spectacular buildings? How

How Did Geography Affect Ancient Civilization
Geography affected early civilizations as it it necessary to have adequate access to water, animals
for hunting, fertile soil, and safety. The Aztecs settled and developed in the central basin, the Valley
of Mexico. The central basin consisted of five lakes, the largest being Lake Texcoco. The lakes were
salt water, thus affecting the surrounding soil and making it infertile. Cities developed around the
lakes, and farmers harvested crops on the outskirts of these cities. This influenced a class system as
those with power and riches lived in the cities. Since there were many different ecological zones in
the mexican basin, different farmers used different techniques and grew different crops, developing
a trade system for food and necessities.

Essay about Aztecs
The Aztecs were a group of indigenous people who established an extensive empire in Mexico and
parts of Central America.
They were part of the Nahua ethnic group which was predominant within the region. The Aztecs are
characterized not only by their vast empire, comparable to those in Europe but also by their
technological advancements and spiritual traditions and rituals (Leon–Portilla, xvii). Two theoretical
concepts that will be used to analyze this society are the cognized versus operation models and the
coproduction model. The Aztecs' strong cosmic and mythological beliefs not only had metaphysical
effects but also produced physical, ecological ones as well. This represents the difference between
the cognized and operational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proteins such as deer, rabbit, fish and duck were usually reserved for the elite. A decline in hunting
was observed after the population reached levels that would risk overhunting. Most of the Aztecs
domesticated dogs and turkeys instead, and consumed them as sources of protein
(Aguilar–Moreno, 329). The Aztecs developed very advanced and organized agricultural systems in
order to accommodate their growing populations. The total population of the Aztec Empire was
estimated to be around 30 million with their capital, Tenochtitlan being home to over 200,000
people. They invented "chinampas" as a form of agriculture which consisted of systematically
creating artificial pieces of land on freshwater lakes.
These "floating islands" would be made of sediments, mud and vegetation with trees planted on the
corners to hold them down. They would also be spaced so that canoes could travel between this
network of chinampas.
Within the larger cities, however, where this method was not as feasible, each family would use a
personal garden as a means of obtaining food
(Aguilar–Moreno, 58). Another important part of Aztec culture revolved around their spiritual and
mythological beliefs. The Aztecs held very strong and sacred belief towards nature. They
worshipped many Gods pertaining to different natural elements, including the sun, the rain, the
mountains and the wind. They believed that every part of nature played an important role in

United States And Territorial States
Although archaeologists debate the definition of city–states, territorial states, and when they become
an empire, there are some basic outlines that can be followed. City–states are densely populated area
with a socially stratified society made of people spanning from elite and nobles down through to
crafts people and farmers; complex, administrative, political, and governmental bodies that guide
everyday activities (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). City–states are predominantly made up of the same
ethnicities, who share a similar culture, while Territorial–states are political centers with other
portions of society living outside a main administrative area (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). Territorial–
states are normally made up of varying ethnicities, languages and incorporate larger expanses of
land (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). An Empire is a city–state or state that conquers neighboring states to
create a larger territory (Smiley, 2015: Unit 9). In addition, and empire has a governing body that
implements a tax – to help support the population and governing powers – and has a standing
military – that helps conquer, helps enforce the rule of the state on the new territory, and minimize
uprisings. In this essay I will describe three key empires: the Romans, the Aztecs, and the Incas. The
Roman were a culturally underdeveloped group, one of several city–states aligned with the city–
state of Etrua, and was under Etruscan rule for around 200 years before they rebelled. Subsequently

They also used causeways to get to the mainland from their floating island. They used the same
pilings that they had used to hold up their temples and other buildings to hold up the causeways that
were sometimes 45 feet wide. Thousands of pilings had to be driven into the lakebed for these
causeways.these roads helped the aztecs transport much heavier materials for building. Big items for
buildings like sculptures and stone blocks were pulled by very many men and sometimes they would
use logs as rollers to help the stone get to where it needed to be. Legend has it that it would take
around a total of fifty thousand men to get the stone from the mountains in the mainland and then
bring it over the causeways and finally be put into the construction of a temple. To transport luxury
items and goods to the heart of the empire the aztecs built a network of super highways. Aqueducts
were used to transport fresh water to the city of tenochtitlan from the mainland. It was a very
advanced system for the time that the Aztecs were living in. Also those aqueducts were such a large
reason for the empire's success because they always had a fresh source of water and didn't need lots
of manpower to get the water from the mainland into the heart of their capital city. And with fresh
water no one inside the city walls would die of dehydration and they would not get sick from

The Fall of the Aztecs
The Aztec civilization is widely regarded as the greatest civilization of the Americas. The
Aztecs' empire covered most of modern day central Mexico and was the most powerful civilization
in the region at the time. They had developed political, religious, and social systems that were very
intricate and important to the culture as a whole. The Aztecs, at the height of their greatness, ruled
5–6 million people and over 500 city–states. However every great civilization in history, including
the Aztecs, have a rise and have a fall. The Aztec Empire fell to the Spaniard's conquest because of
the Aztec's religion, disease, Spanish weaponry, and native alliances. Although the Aztecs have an
unknown origin, by legend they are believed to have originated from the northern part of modern
day Mexico. A nomadic tribe known as the Mexica began migrating to the Valley of Mexico. These
people are what society calls Aztecs today. In A.D. 1325 the Mexica founded the great city of
Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City) on the island of Lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan allied with the
cities of Texcoco and Tacuba to form an alliance against the Tepanec people who were the dominant
people of the region. This alliance was known as the Triple Alliance which was the basis of the
Aztec Empire. The Triple Alliance dominated Central Mexico up until the time of the Spanish
Conquest in 1521.

Rio Grande Valley Research Paper

  • 1. Rio Grande Valley Research Paper The Rio Grande Valley The Rio Grande Valley is a small place at the bottom of Texas, but it might be one of my favorite places. The reasons that the valley is my favorite place is because of my family, friends, and the culture. The Valley is important to me because it is the place I was born and most of my family live there. My family is very big, but somehow most of them live in the valley because we think family is one of the most important things in the world. My grandma that lives in the valley is the person that raised me and my brother she has been their almost her whole life, but without her I don't think that the valley would be my favorite place to be. When we have parties with my family it could be about anything a football game, graduation, birthday and many more, but in the end the best thing about the parties was that we were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you have ever gone to Mexico and go back to the valley sometimes you will think that you never left Mexico and you just went in a circle. The Valley is about 95% Hispanic and about 50% of us speak Spanish and in the Valley, it's not like other places where they have TEX–MEX. The valley is the complete opposite because we have more of a Hispanic culture than an American culture. There are places in the Valley, where it has a lot of American culture, but there are places in the same town or city where you think you just traveled to Mexico because stores where all they have is stuff from Mexico so that you don't drive to Mexico. If you ever go to the valley the things you have to be careful about is if you go to a Mexican restaurant that you have to find out if any of the people who work there speak English because if you don't know Spanish you are going to have a difficult time trying to order. The culture to me is one of a kind because there is no other place like it in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Aztecs Aztecs The origin of the Aztecs remains uncertain to this day. Most people believe that the Aztecs originated a northern hunter–gatherer tribe. The Aztecs also took on the names Tenochca or Mexica. Their arrival happened close to the end of the fall of the civilization called Toltec's. In fact, The Aztecs might have helped start the fall of the Toltec's. The Aztecs decided to settle on the marshy land of the southwest border of lake Texcoco because they saw an eagle perched on a cactus and saw it as a sign. The Aztecs built artificial islands to plant crops on and establish foundations for their capital city called Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs grew corn, beans, squashes, potatoes, tomatoes, and avocadoes. The Military campaigns extended the kingdom to the southern end of the Titicaca Basin. Hundreds of miles north to subject the Cajamarca and Chimu kingdoms. The Inca Religion was based on a pantheon of gods that include Inti; a creator god named Viracocha; and Apu lllapu, the rain god. There were impressive shrines that were built in the kingdom, that include the Sun Temple in Cusco that was more than 1,200 feet in circumference. Priest depended on divination to diagnose illness, solve crimes, and predict the outcomes of warfare. This required sacrifice. The mummified remains of previous emperors were also treated as if they were sacred figures and paraded around at ceremonies with stores of gold and silver. The only written accounts of the Inca were composed by outsiders, its myths and culture passed to generations by storytellers. Little bits and pieces of its existence were mainly found in the ruins of cities and Temples. In 1911 archaeologist Hiram Bingham discovered the 15th century mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu. • 5. Class Structure, Warfare, Family Life, Religious... Class structure, warfare, family life, religious practices, and agriculture are all aspects of the Aztec's culture. The Aztecs had a legend about the beginning of their empire. The legend said that the gods will send an eagle perched on a cactus and have a snake in its mouth. This was than the right place to build their empire. The Aztecs were a powerful empire that prospered. The first important aspect in the Aztec's culture was class structure. At the top of the structure is the ruler. The ruler was considered semi–divine and the spot was not hereditary. When the emperor died, a group of advisors chose the next emperor. Nobles came next on the list. The most common jobs for nobles were government officials, priests, and military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another important aspect of the Aztec's culture was family life. Men build the house and worked as farmers or craftsmen. Women cooked, watched the garden, and looked after animals. The Aztecs believed that the most important job for a woman was to bare and care for a child. When boys were young, they fetched water and wood and attended school. The commoner boys would only attended school half the time, while noble boys stayed there to learn their jobs. When they grew older, they would learn how to fish, how to handle a canoe, and went to the market with their fathers. Young girls were taught how to weave. Family life was important because without everyone doing a job, they wouldn't have became a great empire. An equally important aspect of their culture is religion. The Aztecs believed in many gods. Their primary god was Huitzilopochtli, the sun god. The Aztecs believe that the sun fights against darkness and they need to help him by giving him blood. To please Huitzilopochtli, priests sacrificed hundreds of birds in the morning. They thought that the best sacrifice was blood from people, in particular the blood of a warrior captured in battle. Some people sacrificed themselves willingly thinking that they would accompany the sun god's daily battle. Religious practices were important because most of what the Aztecs did was to please the gods. The last important aspect of the Aztec's culture is agriculture. The land around ... • 7. Spain 's Conquest Of Mexico My name is Marco Valencia; formerly one of Hernan Cortes` conquistadors. I am writing this memoir about Spain 's conquest of Mexico. The Spanish conquistador that overthrew the Aztec Empire was Cortes. Cortes was a genius man; he knew that he needed to create allies with those who didn't like the Aztecs in order to defeat them, and so he did. Not only that but Cortes used Christianity to his advantage, the Aztecs believed that Cortes was some sort of a god and that he was there to rule over the Aztec empire. Cortes was a smart man he knew about Motecuhzoma`s fear and used it to his advantage, all Cortes really wanted, what he was most driven about was the gold the Aztecs had in their power. Gold was Cortes motivation, he wanted all the gold he could find nothing was enough if he didn't have gold. "When the fighting ended, Cortes demanded the gold his men had abandoned in the Canal of the Toltecs during the Night if Sorrows" (B.S. 120). "The Aztecs unloaded it from the canoes: there were bars of gold, gold crowns, gold ornaments for the arms and legs, gold helmets and disks of gold" (B.S. 120). "Cortes said: "Is this all the gold in the city? You must bring me all of it" (B.S. 120). The man who faced Cortes was Motecuhzoma, the ruler the priest. Motecuhzoma who was the Aztec emperor of Mexico foolishly believed that Cortes was in deed a god. Motecuhzoma feared the god's arrival and when Cortes arrived to Mexico City he opened the doors to him and the rest of the Spaniards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay On The Aztecs In 1519, the Aztecs were the most powerful kingdom in Mesoamerica. At the peak of their reign, their territory stretched as far as 80,000 square miles over southern Mexico, and had as many as fifteen million people. The Aztecs emerged in the thirteenth century, as a nomadic tribe. They were guided by their chief god, Huitzilopochtli, the war god and representative of the sun. The Aztecs couldn 't find a place to settle in the crowded central Mexico. Eventually, they were taken as serfs and mercenaries by the Colhuacan. Their population increased as they married the women that belonged to their neighbors. Eventually, the lowly Aztecs received a Toltec princess for their chief In 1323, the Aztecs sacrificed the princess with the belief that she would become a war goddess. The Colhuacan were horrified, and expelled the Aztecs from their territory. The Aztecs, no longer a hungry band of nomads, but a group of wise people after serving the Colhuacan, set out to find a new territory once again. They traveled southwest to the borders of the lakes that once surrounded Mexico City. There, they found two unoccupied, marshy islands that they quickly took and claimed as their own. They believed they were chosen by the gods and foretold that they would find a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake. Eventually, on a deserted island, they saw the majestic sight. Around 1345, under the rule of the ChiefTenoch, they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The City Of The Aztec Empire When thinking of ancient, urban centers many think of ancient capitals such as Rome, Athens, or Cairo. However, across the Atlantic Ocean in Central and South America, there were a number of growing urban centers being built by the Aztec, Mayan, and Incan civilizations. An example of a Central American urban center is Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Aztec capital which is located in present–day Mexico–City, Mexico. The development of this ancient city was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center and as the capital of the Aztec's civilization was able to flourish. Similarly to modern–day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers, lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or not a location has favorable ecology (28). Tenochtitlan is often compared to Europe's Venice due to its structure and location within the Valley of Mexico. The landscape of the Valley of Mexico consisted of multiple lakes and "resembled a water–filled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Broken Spears Essay The Broken Spears "The Broken Spears" is a collection of many accounts of the destruction of Mexico by Cortes and the conquistadors in their invasion. The motive behind this conquest was Cortes' desire to bring a fortune of gold, spices, and land that can be claimed, back to Spain. Although these desires were admirable, they were sought after at the expense of the Aztecs and consequently changed an entire civilization, due to an initial drive for power, control, land, and money. Cortez along with the Spaniards ultimately destroys the Aztecs in their quest for fortune and fame. The accounts are based on the Aztec's perception of the invasion and include the revolt of the Aztec people that lead to the terror and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Montezuma's attempts to keep the Spaniard away from the Tenochtitlan included everything from sending out magicians and warlocks hoping that they could harm the Spaniards with their magic, to sending out captives to be sacrificed in their presence. With each failed attempt to prevent the Spaniards from entering Tenochtitlan, came the rising fears of the "inevitable". As the Spaniard began to inquire about Montezuma, he contemplated fleeing and escaping the "gods". Due to Montezuma's failed attempts, Cortez and the Spaniards decided to begin marching In–land, in their arrival to Tlaxcala and Cholula. One could argue that the invasion of these cities was due to the defiance and the fact that they would not surrender to Cortez's control. During the march Cortez gained a larger army and allies. Once Cortez and the Spaniards reached the entrance of Tenochtitlan their march was complete. Montezuma then prepared to greet Cortez. According to the text, "He presented many gifts to the Captain and his commanders, those who had come to make war. He showered gifts upon them and hung flowers around their necks; he gave them necklaces of flowers and bands of flowers to adorn their breasts; he set garlands of flowers upon their heads. The Aztec empire began when groups of nomads and wanderers in the wilderness of what is now South America joined together. They arrived in the Mexican Valley between 1200 and 1267 A.D. At the time, the Mexican Valley was a rich environment, full of deep plentiful soils with shallow swamps and lakes full of fish, turtles, insects, and blue–green algae. The Aztecs resided there and began to expand and invade other territories for a variety of reasons: in order to obtain goods and land to support a growing population, a more abundant supply of sacrificial victims, and to maintain their religious beliefs that the lands of Mexico were theirs by "divine right". The expansion and movement of the Aztecs had a distinct effect on the Mexican Valley and surrounding areas. Their capital, Tenochtitlon, was constructed in the middle of Lake Lexcoco and eventually a new lake– based agricultural system was established. As the Aztec population flourished, central Mexico was transformed into a "social landscape" with plentiful resources (Teresi, 342–4). When Cortes witnessed the native lifestyle and traditions in "breadbasket of the Valley of Mexico," he took the opportunities given to him, mainly through chance, and overthrew Montezuma, beginning the Spanish reign in this new part of the world. Similarities And Differences Of The Inca And Aztec Empires Throughout the previous time, pre–European civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec and Inca empires were separate and distinct civilizations. The two civilizations stayed with no question very progressed and had their own intricated but very efficient society. Polytheism (who beliefs in multiple gods) dominated both empires. A decline in hunting was observed after the population reached levels that would risk overhunting. The Aztecs developed very advanced and organized agricultural systems in order to accommodate their growing populations. The total population of the Aztec Empire was estimated to be around 30 million with their capital, Tenochtitlan being home to over 200,000 people. They invented "chinampas" as a form of agriculture which consisted of systematically creating artificial pieces of land on freshwater lakes. • 65. United States And Territorial States Although archaeologists debate the definition of city–states, territorial states, and when they become an empire, there are some basic outlines that can be followed. City–states are densely populated area with a socially stratified society made of people spanning from elite and nobles down through to crafts people and farmers; complex, administrative, political, and governmental bodies that guide everyday activities (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). City–states are predominantly made up of the same ethnicities, who share a similar culture, while Territorial–states are political centers with other portions of society living outside a main administrative area (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). Territorial– states are normally made up of varying ethnicities, languages and incorporate larger expanses of land (Scarre & Fagan, 2003). An Empire is a city–state or state that conquers neighboring states to create a larger territory (Smiley, 2015: Unit 9). In addition, and empire has a governing body that implements a tax – to help support the population and governing powers – and has a standing military – that helps conquer, helps enforce the rule of the state on the new territory, and minimize uprisings. In this essay I will describe three key empires: the Romans, the Aztecs, and the Incas. The Fall Of The Aztecs Daniel 1 Peter Daniel Professor Chrissanthos TA: Christina Pappous HIST010 4 June 2015 The Fall of the Aztecs The Aztec civilization is widely regarded as the greatest civilization of the Americas. The Aztecs' empire covered most of modern day central Mexico and was the most powerful civilization in the region at the time. They had developed political, religious, and social systems that were very intricate and important to the culture as a whole. In A.D. 1325 the Mexica founded the great city of Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City) on the island of Lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan allied with the cities of Texcoco and Tacuba to form an alliance against the Tepanec people who were the dominant people of the region. This alliance was known as the Triple Alliance which was the basis of the Aztec Empire. The Triple Alliance dominated Central Mexico up until the time of the Spanish Conquest in 1521. ...
