John Maeda Essay
John Maeda is an American executive, programmer, and designer who is one of the leaders of the
movement to transform STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) in the field of education. The primary goal of STEAM is
to encourage students to use elements of design to come up with unique and creative solutions to
problems that they may face. In a 2012 interview with the Huffington Post Maeda Describes the
STEAM movement using the mp3 player as an example; in the interview, he states "Extending
STEM to STEAM by adding Art makes sense, because STEM by itself is extremely powerful. Its
scale is amazing. But that alone doesn't create warmth and humanity and connection. For instance, a
thing like an MP3 Player is a STEM technology. But until Apple came along, it didn't become
desirable. It was a STEAM technology that made it a part of our everyday lives." (Roach). Maeda's
person background along with his dedication to the STEAM movement is the primary reason why I
chose to write this document about him. John Maeda is the son of two Japanese Immigrants who
worked in a tofu factory in the Chinatown District of Seattle Washington. At a young age, John

My reasoning behind this idea is because he can use principles of both art and design in order to
think of creative solutions while using his programming knowledge make those solutions a reality in
the field of technology. His personal upbringing has also played a major part on his success because
he was forced to work hard at a young age. John mentions this during a 2007 TED Talks
presentation during which he describes how tough it was to work in his parents Tofu factory "It's
very hard work to make tofu. As a child, we used to wake up at 1 a.m. and work till 6 p.m., six days
a week." (Maeda, "Designing for

Graphic Design Progression
as long as I can remember I have been interested in things like sketching drawing painting
computers and anything to do with arts and crafts. I have always been interested in arts and crafts
since I was a child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. As I got older,
and technology advanced I started finding ways to make my sketches and characters more detailed
by use of computer applications. This is where my interest in the graphic design field first
blossomed. I would spend hours upon hours trying new things and designing flyers and postcards.
All the while, honing and sharpening my skills. It wasn't until my senior year in high school and
entering college that I have found that there was a career which incorporates these things. I can
actually get paid to do what I love. That career is graphic design. Graphic design was a good career
path that same instantly like something that I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life but upon
researching it I found even more reasons to pursue this career field. This is a job that never gets
boring every day is something new flexible hours most of the time you're your own boss and have

my money in full and am responsible for paying taxes on my on every year. Not like the average job

Heads shops represent a huge market including states that haven't legalized medical and

clothing and art from around the country to RI. One art that the store is missing is glass apparel. The
competitive advantage that the store is that we are the only retail store that sell Grassroots California

Kara Walker Essay
Kara Walker was born in Stockton, CA, 1969. She was raised by her father, Larry Walker, who
worked as a painter. Kara knew by the age of of three that she wanted to be an artist. When she
began she had the intentions of creating fine art, as she grew she started getting into several types of
art and creating several pieces in order to tell stories or make a statement rather than trying to
achieve beauty. "I guess there was a little bit of a slight rebellion, maybe a little bit of a renegade
desire that made me realize at some point in my adolescence that I really liked pictures that told
stories of things. Genre paintings, historical paintings. The sort of derivatives we get in
contemporary society," Kara Walker said this during an interview ... Show more content on

My High School Job Application
Throughout the last four years of my high school career, I spent most of my time trying and
experiencing new opportunities. I love to keep myself busy, and I did so by being actively involved
in numerous organizations. Freshman year and still currently, I have been active in Track and Field.
Freshman year I received a medal and made varsity. By the end of that year I earned a varsity letter
in Track and Field. The following year (sophomore), I had the opportunity to work at my local
hospital (Rhode Island Hospital). My job title was a patient transporter, which required me to
transport patients to and from their rooms and test sites throughout the hospital. Also, transferring
specimen was a regular task throughout the day. I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to work and
witness all of the different health fields in the hospital. This job opportunity is so important to my
life because it helped me determine that I like working and helping people, but I do not like seeing
them sick and gory.
During my Junior year of high school, I became more active within my community. I joined the
NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). I spent at least four hours a
week, giving my time to the NAACP, making and giving sandwiches to people in need, cleaning
vacant lots, building –a– bed, and much more. Also, I had the opportunity to be ... Show more

Diane Arbus: A Brief Biography Of Diane Nemerov
Diane Arbus
Arbus was born Diane Nemerov on March 14, 1923 to David Nemerov and Gertrude Russek
Nemerov. David and Gertrude owned a famous department store on Fifth Avenue. She came from a
Jewish family that was fairly wealthy, so she was shielded from many harsh aspects of the Great
Depression during the 1930s. Diane Nemerov attended the Fieldston School for Ethical Culture, a
prep school. She began to take a liking to photography during her high school years.
In 1941, when she was eighteen, she married her childhood sweetheart Allan Arbus. Diane gave
birth to her first daughter, Doon, in 1945. Their second daughter Amy was born in 1954. The
Arbuses' interests in photography grew as a couple.

She and Allan became quite a successful team, with photographs appearing in such magazines as
Vogue. In the late 1950s, she began to focus on her own photography. To further her art, Arbus
studied with photographer Lisette Model around this time.
During her wanderings around New York City, Arbus began to pursue taking photographs of people
she found. She visited seedy hotels, public parks, a morgue and other various locales. These unusual
images had a raw quality, and several of them found their way into the July 1960 issue of Esquire
magazine. These photographs proved to be a spring board for future work.
By the mid–1960s, Diane Arbus had become a well–established photographer, participating in
shows at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, among other places. She was known for
going to great lengths to get the shots she wanted. She became friends with many other famous
photographers, including Richard Avedon and Walker Evans.
In 1956, Arbus quit the commercial photography business. Although earlier she had studied
photography with Berenice Abbott, her studies with Lisette Model, which began in 1956 with her
enrollment in one of Model's classes taught at The New School, led to Arbus's most well–known
methods and

The Academic Performance At Central Falls High School
Central Falls, Rhode Island, is located just outside of the Providence, the capital of Rhode Island.
The diversity of the Central Falls community is echoed by looking at the high schools' 800–member
student body. Within the number of students the birthplaces represented are Puerto Rico, Dominican
Republic, Columbia, Guatemala, Cape Verde and United States. The school bodies' aggregate ethnic
breakdown is calculated as 72 percent Hispanic, 15 percent Black, and 13 percent White (Donnelly
& Rochefort, 2011). The school system is the pushing force behind achieving the hopes and dreams
of the students.
Educational Statistics
The academic performance at Central Falls High School (CFHS) has historically trailed behind the
average school performance numbers for the state of Rhode Island. According to the article, 271
freshmen entered Central Falls High School in 2005, but only 47 percent reached graduation four
years later. Other data revealed that other 33.5 percent of the students dropped out, 12.5 percent
were held back, and 7 percent received a General Equivalency Diploma. Data also revealed that
only 55 percent of the student body was considered to be proficient in reading and only 7 percent
proficient in math. These statistics showed little improvement by 2008, where the math proficiency
rose another 3 percent (Donnelly & Rochefort, 2011).

Liberal Arts Career
Imagine this: A modern student, pushed on by her parents, teachers, and guidance counselors, works
her way through the entire available set of math, science, engineering, and technology courses her
high school and subsequent college have to offer. She completes only the bare minimum of arts
classes to graduate: four years of english, two years of foreign language, a year of fine arts, the
required government and economics classes. She doesn't care too much about them. She's going to
be a civil engineer. Why would she need all these extra skills when her career is all about math and
science? As soon as she gets her first job as a civil engineer, she realizes she's missed something.
Math and science are great for engineering calculations, but how can she come up with solutions to
real–world problems in the first place? She lacks creativity. So, what else can she do? She has no

background. Improving the communication capabilities and visual features of widely–used apps is
more practical in today's society than calculating the new highest prime number, though there is
beauty in that as well. According to Forbes Magazine, only approximately thirty percent of Silicon
Valley hirees actually get jobs in software engineering. The other seventy percent are involved in a

When I was assigned this project I had a hard time choosing an artist. I really do not know much

like Picasso. But they did not meet the criteria for the artist we were supposed to chose and I would
not have a lot to say about them besides the obvious that everyone knew. I realized that I did not
have too much to say about them. I needed to write five pages about a artist. The artist I chose

What Makes A Leader?
What makes a leader? Some may say good values, environment, and role models. Others may say
they are just born. I would not say I was just born a leader and I cannot say that there is just one
moment that lead to all of this. There were a string of moments; accidental lessons and trainings.
Overall, I do not think I ever chose to be a leader, I chose to be active and that choice is what lead
me to where I am today. When creating a psychological reason for any part of someone's personality
the first place to start is often family and childhood. I am one of three and the youngest. I am

Literature Review
According to the literature overall, teens have a lower rate of seat belt use when compared to the
general population. Whether they are driving or not, teens are less likely to wear a seat belt than
adults. According to the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (2009), "teens
have the highest fatality rate in motor vehicle crashes than any other age group." In 2009 the
majority 56% of young people 16 to 20 years of age involved in fatal crashes were not wearing seat
belts (NHTSA, 2009). Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death, accounting for more
than one in three deaths. In 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that
eight teenagers ages 16 to 19 died everyday from motor vehicle accidents. (NHTSA, 2010).
Compared with other age groups, teens have the lowest rate of seat belt use. In 2005, 10% of high
school students reported that they rarely or never wear seat belts when riding with someone else
(NHTSA, 2010). 12.5% of male high school students were more likely than 7.8% of female students
to rarely or never wear seat belts (NHTSA, 2010). African–American students 12% and Hispanic
students 13% were more likely than white students 10.1% to rarely or never wear seat belts. In 2010,
nearly three out of every four teen drivers were killed in motor vehicle crashes after drinking and
driving and were not wearing a seat belt (Center

Seth Macfarlane Research Paper
Seth Macfarlane was born on October 26, 1973 in Connecticut. He did not follow the paths of his
mother or father–Ronald and Ann, who were a teacher and an academic administrator. Instead, he
got into animation, and came up with famous cartoons that are around and still very popular today.
He always loved to draw cartoons, and this is evident because when he was only 2, he had drawn the
commonly known Woody Woodpecker and Freddy Flintstone. Through high school, Macfarlane
continued drawing and animating, and enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied
animation and video. He originally intended to work for Disney, but changed his mind after
graduating. Though he worked on several animated shows, Seth Macfarlane felt dedicated

The Era Of The Industrial Revolution
When the Industrial Revolution started, it resulted in the world changing at a high pace. So, the
people started to desire a simpler, and a more stable time. That's when the revival of ancient
architecture started to form. Each type of revival style was associated with a specific architect, for
instance, A.W.N. Pugin was England's leading Gothic revivalist. The revivals of the ancient
architecture influenced the architectural designs of many architects of the time. Two of the most
noted architects in the nineteenth century who were influenced by the architectural revivals were:
Richard Morris Hunt, the leading architect to the Beaux Art style; and Henry Hobson Richardson,
the father of the Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. The ... Show more content on

Its style combined classical ideas from the ancient Greek, Roman, and Romanesque architecture and
deployed their ideas into its architecture (Carven, 7/27/2016). The Beaux's Art style influenced
architecture between 1880 and 1920, but its popularity ended with economic hardships from the
great depression. Beaux Arts style emphasized the classical forms and features by showing elaborate
details while having heavy masonry, and massive plans. The Beaux Arts displayed elaborate details
by integrating sculpture that was influenced by the Baroque and Rococo styles. It also had classical
details such as pilasters, balustrades, and garlands. It was highly ornamented to the point that an
elaborately decorated surface with little areas left unornamented became the hallmark for the Beaux
Arts style (Architectural style of America, n.d.). Also, the Beaux Arts style is symmetrical because it
was influenced by the ancient Greek revival. Columns, arches, vaults, and domes were all elements
of the Beaux Arts. They used all of these elements and characteristics to try and imitate the
European Aristocracy houses. Beaux Arts main clients were the "would be American aristocrats"
who have accumulated a massive amount of wealth throughout one or two generations. His main
clients had to be the super wealthy people of the time because the Beaux Arts style of architecture
had massive plans and heavy masonry, which means that his clients should be

Victoria was startled awake at the sound of her alarm clock. She looked at the time and it read 6:00
AM. Four hours earlier she was gazing at the alarm clock trying to fall asleep. Today was the day
that she would go to the state–wide art competition to win it, once again, and receive a scholarship
to the Rhode Island School of Design. She put on her elegant black lace dress, and her peep–toed
cheetah flats. Her golden blonde hair was falling over her shoulders like the snowflakes outside on
this early December morning. She put on her favorite gold necklace the one she wears everyday,
grabbed her portfolio and cup of coffee and headed out for Chicago for the art competition. Victoria

There shouldn't be any question, with the last two years' wins under her belt, Victoria is confident
that she will win this competition. As she strolls around the auditorium, looking at her competitors
artwork, she comes across a picture that looks exactly like hers. The artist of this piece used colored
pencils, while she used oil paint on a canvas. The drawing is much more intricate than hers, and the
abstract is remarkable. Her stomach is in knots and she is starting to feel nauseous. Victoria is
thinking about how this person could have drawn the same image that she painted. She has never
even seen this image before, it came from her imagination. All she can think about is how this
person could have copied her. The name card read Corbin Drake, and he was from Ashley, Illinois.
Victoria did not know where Ashley, Illinois was, so it must be a very small town. Victoria walked
over to a chair and sat there contemplating how this could be possible. As she sat there feeling
baffled, she notices a casual young man walking up to the drawing. The man is wearing an unironed
white button up shirt and an old red tie. He starts adjusting his drawing on the easel. After several
minutes she gets enough confidence to approach the young man. She asks the man if he would
kindly come look at her painting. As the two walk to her

whose typographical achievements have gained recognition on both a national and international

This group included Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro,Edgar Degas, Alfred
Sisley and Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse–Lautrec whom all worked together, influenced each
other, and exhibited together and independently. A major fact that tied the group together was that
they were exhilarated by contemporary developments in the color theory which helped their search
for a more exact analysis of the effects of color and light in nature. They did not believe the shadows
of objects were made up from its color with some brown or black added like it portrays. Instead they
believed in greater depth that the shadow of an object was broken up with dashes of its
complementary color, which is found to be very interesting. Impressionism is based on modernity,
meaning faster pace and various improvements in the quality of daily life (Gersh–Nesic, n.d.). The
key characteristics of Impressionism were light and its reflection, quickly painted surfaces, dots,
dashes, separation of colors and letting the eye's perception mix them, commas and other short
brushstrokes. These artists are known to jot down things faster and were called impressionists and
their paintings eventually became known as Impressionism. The word "impressionist" in 1874
typically meant no skill but the group did not give up on the art they believed in, although they were
rejected by academic institutions such as the French academy of fine arts and the Salon. By then end
of the impressionist period artist no longer listened to the strict rules and did not care about the
opinion of the salon, they were free to paint how they wanted and began to pursue their own ideas.
This led to a growing revolution in art and is looked upon by many artists

Gilman's ideas about equality for men and women are vividly present in the short story. She
believed that women should be more equal economically, socially, and be able to have jobs and
work outside of their home. "The Yellow Wall–Paper" focuses on how women were seen as home
keepers and not able to work in the real world. Gilman expresses her ideas through this story by
telling it as a first person experience. The story "The Yellow Wall–Paper" is considered one of
Gilman's most famous short stories. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born on July 3rd in 1860 in

Growing up in a lower middle class family, with only her mother, aunt, and grandma raising her,
Charlene quickly realized life would hand her nothing on a golden platter. However, each obstacle
concurred or being battled has shaped her into the intelligent, independent, ambitious young women
she is today. Using her experiences paired with her knowledge, Charlene is set to conquer her

Charlene was born in Rhode Island. The immediate family was the only system of support due to
her father never showing (not even signing the birth certificate) and the rest of the family shaming
her mom for the young pregnancy. The first eleven years of Charlene's life was spent moving
between Rhode Island, Florida, and Kentucky to not only provide a stable income, but stay close to
family. The greatest challenge was moving between schools and never having long–lasting
friendships which formed her strongest attribute – self–reliance. The deepest hole was while living

April Greiman April Greiman was born on March 22, 1948 in New York City. She was born during
the baby boom, she had parents that encouraged her to ask questions about everything. Growing up
she realized through her parents and the way they lived their lives, that integrity was an integral part
of one's art. When she first decided to study Graphic Design she applied to Rhode Island School of
Design but when she filled out the application she couldn't even draw the picture she was asked to
draw. They told her that they couldn't accept her and that maybe it would be better for her to apply
to the Kansas City Art Institute. She was accepted and started her schooling, then went on to
Switzerland for a year (Famous Graphic Designers). At Basel School of Design, she studied under

I am a person who has many interest and I'm glad that I do. Without exploring the activities I like I
probably would not have accomplished a lot in my four years. I find that I like visual and
performing arts a lot, but I'm finding a new love for sports. I feel like my greatest achievement was
joining the drama club and the swim team.
During my junior year I wanted to be apart of school activities, but not to the point that it would
negatively affect my grades. To satisfy my needs I decided to join the drama club. It was most likely
the best decision I made that year. It was fun to be with people who came from different
backgrounds and be apart of such a great family. What made it even better was that the teacher who
is in charge of the program was always willing to help.
Being my senior year I wanted to try out for a school sport and swimming had interested me the

Graphic Design Used For Making Art
Everywhere you look, there is graphic design. From the billboards on highways to the cover of your
cereal box. Most things advertised or illustrated are designed using this method, and it is getting
more and more popular to do so. Anywhere there is an urban area or city, people are using this type
of design to promote companies, boost ratings, and build popularity in products. This is a very
popular and profitable profession, if done the right way with the right people. There are so many
graphic design companies around the world, that it would be immensely difficult to find out how
many there are. I guess you could call graphic designers the "unsung heroes" of advertising.
II The definition of graphic design is the combination of words and art in advertising, books,
magazines, etc. But this isn 't always the case. Graphic design can also be used for making art. This
is one of the reasons why companies will pay good money for a skilled graphic designer to make
their logo, ad's, or product design. The amount of money acquired for each project depends on the
size and importance of it. This is why graphic designers have such demanding jobs, because if they
don 't get a project done by the deadline, either money will be deducted from their pay or they can
get replaced. This can also happen if the designer makes something that the company does not like.
III When it comes to getting a job in this line of work, there are a couple of options: solo work,
which is just doing jobs that

RISD Personal Statement
I currently attend the Rhode Island School of Design, a prestigious art and design institution,
majoring in Graphic Design. Having attended RISD for the past two years, I have experienced what
is valuable and matured to find out what I want for myself. Simply, I want to pursue a
computation/computer science related field upholding values of strong design application. Looking
at alumni in relation to my skills and interests, I have assurance that I will do fine, but I don't want
to do just fine. As an artist and designer of the 21st century, it is important for me to know and
connect the values of technology with design to enhance communication in relation to the current
age. Although RISD is a great institution, it does not offer the specific resources that I want to
pursue; I am interested in an environment that can cultivate my passion in other applications
whereas RISD is rooted in a more departmental tradition. I believe that in order to have a more
complex understanding of one subject, investigating other subjects through a design mindset, would
allow me to seek a more passionate advance towards design. Rather than existing in a bubble where
art and design were merely conventions to live by, a more integrative approach to design, to see
computational knowledge incorporated into the fundamentals of design, and vice versa, is something
that I want to contribute to the developing world. Design does not live within an art school but it
exists within its application. Thus, I want to transfer to an institution that can offer an intersection of
design and computation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

John Maeda Essay

  • 1. John Maeda Essay John Maeda is an American executive, programmer, and designer who is one of the leaders of the movement to transform STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) in the field of education. The primary goal of STEAM is to encourage students to use elements of design to come up with unique and creative solutions to problems that they may face. In a 2012 interview with the Huffington Post Maeda Describes the STEAM movement using the mp3 player as an example; in the interview, he states "Extending STEM to STEAM by adding Art makes sense, because STEM by itself is extremely powerful. Its scale is amazing. But that alone doesn't create warmth and humanity and connection. For instance, a thing like an MP3 Player is a STEM technology. But until Apple came along, it didn't become desirable. It was a STEAM technology that made it a part of our everyday lives." (Roach). Maeda's person background along with his dedication to the STEAM movement is the primary reason why I chose to write this document about him. John Maeda is the son of two Japanese Immigrants who worked in a tofu factory in the Chinatown District of Seattle Washington. At a young age, John displayed a high ... My reasoning behind this idea is because he can use principles of both art and design in order to think of creative solutions while using his programming knowledge make those solutions a reality in the field of technology. His personal upbringing has also played a major part on his success because he was forced to work hard at a young age. John mentions this during a 2007 TED Talks presentation during which he describes how tough it was to work in his parents Tofu factory "It's very hard work to make tofu. As a child, we used to wake up at 1 a.m. and work till 6 p.m., six days a week." (Maeda, "Designing for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Graphic Design Progression as long as I can remember I have been interested in things like sketching drawing painting computers and anything to do with arts and crafts. I have always been interested in arts and crafts since I was a child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. As I got older, and technology advanced I started finding ways to make my sketches and characters more detailed by use of computer applications. This is where my interest in the graphic design field first blossomed. I would spend hours upon hours trying new things and designing flyers and postcards. All the while, honing and sharpening my skills. It wasn't until my senior year in high school and entering college that I have found that there was a career which incorporates these things. I can actually get paid to do what I love. That career is graphic design. Graphic design was a good career path that same instantly like something that I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life but upon researching it I found even more reasons to pursue this career field. This is a job that never gets boring every day is something new flexible hours most of the time you're your own boss and have creative control over everything you do. Every day there's something new and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bulk of my business now consists of party flyers, business cards, government campaign signs, real estate posts, etc. On average I do about 5 to 7 designs per day, five days a week and bring home about $1,500 every week. As a graphic designer, I am an independent contractor, so I collect all of my money in full and am responsible for paying taxes on my on every year. Not like the average job where the taxes are deducted from my check in advance. I have to be really responsible when dealing in a cash business like this because failure to keep up with taxes can result in heavy fines and even jail ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I love to keep myself busy, and I did so by being actively involved in numerous organizations. Freshman year and still currently, I have been active in Track and Field. Freshman year I received a medal and made varsity. By the end of that year I earned a varsity letter in Track and Field. The following year (sophomore), I had the opportunity to work at my local hospital (Rhode Island Hospital). My job title was a patient transporter, which required me to transport patients to and from their rooms and test sites throughout the hospital. Also, transferring specimen was a regular task throughout the day. I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to work and witness all of the different health fields in the hospital. This job opportunity is so important to my life because it helped me determine that I like working and helping people, but I do not like seeing them sick and gory. During my Junior year of high school, I became more active within my community. I joined the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Liberal Arts Career Imagine this: A modern student, pushed on by her parents, teachers, and guidance counselors, works her way through the entire available set of math, science, engineering, and technology courses her high school and subsequent college have to offer. She completes only the bare minimum of arts classes to graduate: four years of english, two years of foreign language, a year of fine arts, the required government and economics classes. She doesn't care too much about them. She's going to be a civil engineer. Why would she need all these extra skills when her career is all about math and science? As soon as she gets her first job as a civil engineer, she realizes she's missed something. • 61. Drama Club Application Essay I am a person who has many interest and I'm glad that I do. Without exploring the activities I like I probably would not have accomplished a lot in my four years. I find that I like visual and performing arts a lot, but I'm finding a new love for sports. I feel like my greatest achievement was joining the drama club and the swim team. During my junior year I wanted to be apart of school activities, but not to the point that it would negatively affect my grades. To satisfy my needs I decided to join the drama club. It was most likely the best decision I made that year. It was fun to be with people who came from different backgrounds and be apart of such a great family. What made it even better was that the teacher who is in charge of the program was always willing to help. Being my senior year I wanted to try out for a school sport and swimming had interested me the most. I was unsure if I would even make to be apart of the swim team since I have never done a competitive sport in school. I actually got to make the team and compete, I was not the best but I did improve a lot by the end of the season! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 63. Graphic Design Used For Making Art Everywhere you look, there is graphic design. From the billboards on highways to the cover of your cereal box. Most things advertised or illustrated are designed using this method, and it is getting more and more popular to do so. Anywhere there is an urban area or city, people are using this type of design to promote companies, boost ratings, and build popularity in products. This is a very popular and profitable profession, if done the right way with the right people. There are so many graphic design companies around the world, that it would be immensely difficult to find out how many there are. I guess you could call graphic designers the "unsung heroes" of advertising. II The definition of graphic design is the combination of words and art in advertising, books, magazines, etc. But this isn 't always the case. Graphic design can also be used for making art. This is one of the reasons why companies will pay good money for a skilled graphic designer to make their logo, ad's, or product design. The amount of money acquired for each project depends on the size and importance of it. This is why graphic designers have such demanding jobs, because if they don 't get a project done by the deadline, either money will be deducted from their pay or they can get replaced. This can also happen if the designer makes something that the company does not like. III When it comes to getting a job in this line of work, there are a couple of options: solo work, which is just doing jobs that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At Rhode Island School of Design, within the Industrial Design major, creativity abounds, manifesting in the 3–D models, professors, and the students' orthographic drawings. When redesigning a mixer for the Pre–College Program final, I created numerous designs focusing on various subjects: aesthetic, ergonomics, and specific demographics. Each one has its pros and cons, each one has its special feature and each one fulfills its purpose and the teacher's requirements. The process of discovering a new way to answer the same question over and over again yields endless possibilities. Constantly refining my product and playing with new ideas before falling asleep is an adventure, despite some sleepless nights due to the excitement. Besides the actual application of the practice, the history of industrial design fascinates me as well. How were products designed in different ages, in different countries? Why was aesthetic placed over ergonomics in terms of importance when creating this chair? How has visual language in these products developed through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. RISD Personal Statement I currently attend the Rhode Island School of Design, a prestigious art and design institution, majoring in Graphic Design. Having attended RISD for the past two years, I have experienced what is valuable and matured to find out what I want for myself. Simply, I want to pursue a computation/computer science related field upholding values of strong design application. Looking at alumni in relation to my skills and interests, I have assurance that I will do fine, but I don't want to do just fine. As an artist and designer of the 21st century, it is important for me to know and connect the values of technology with design to enhance communication in relation to the current age. Although RISD is a great institution, it does not offer the specific resources that I want to pursue; I am interested in an environment that can cultivate my passion in other applications whereas RISD is rooted in a more departmental tradition. I believe that in order to have a more complex understanding of one subject, investigating other subjects through a design mindset, would allow me to seek a more passionate advance towards design. Rather than existing in a bubble where art and design were merely conventions to live by, a more integrative approach to design, to see computational knowledge incorporated into the fundamentals of design, and vice versa, is something that I want to contribute to the developing world. Design does not live within an art school but it exists within its application. Thus, I want to transfer to an institution that can offer an intersection of design and computation. ...
