2. TREATMENT OF SYPHILIS
EARLY SYPHILIS
1. BENZATHINE BENZYL PENICILLIN 24 Lakh
units I.M in a single dose
2. Alternatively , DOXYCYCLINE 100mg twice
a day orally for 15 days.
4. JARISCH HERXHEIMER REACTION
• May occur after Penicillin therapy.
• Response consists of chills, fever, myalgia and hypotension
• Cause: May be due to the toxic products from the Massive
destruction of treponemes or due to hypersensitivity.
• Rapid onset (within 2 hrs).
5. NON VENERAL TREPONEMATOSIS
• Infection usually transmitted from body to body contact.

T.pertenue Yaws
T.carateum Pinta
T.endemicum Endemic Syphilis
6. ENDEMIC SYPHILIS
• Caused by T.endemicum
• Disease common in young children.
• Primary chancre is not usually seen
• Treatment: Same as veneral Syphilis.
7. Yaws
Caused by T.pertenue which is
Morphologically and immunologically
Identical to T.pallidum.
Primary lesion is extragenital papule
Which enlarges and ulcerates to form an ulcerating granuloma.
8. PINTA
• Caused by T.carateum
• Not identical but closely related to T.pallidum
• Primary lesion is extragenital papule which
Does not ulcerate but develops into lichenoid
Or psoriatic patch.
