Water is a transparent liquid that is the main constituent of Earth's streams, lakes, oceans, and rain, and makes up most of the fluids within living things. A water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom connected by covalent bonds. On Earth, water exists in three states: as a liquid at standard temperature and pressure, as a solid in the form of ice, and as a gas (water vapor).
