-The human body - what is it like?
-The human body: Imagine you are
a part of the human body (bone,
organ, senses)
-What makes us unique and
different from anybody else?
Tasks :
- drawing parts of the human body;
- writing about activities and
preferences;
- describing human body, shapes,
sizes and themselves.
- in each of the lessons students
prepare necessary material to
gradually build up a common
profile/drawing:
- A teacher/student interaction is
used to learn the necessary
vocabulary and sentence
construction;
- in the Art class students draw and
paint the necessary Items to build
up /fill in the human profile(s);
- the students present the lesson
and describe themselves to the
other colleagues.

- notebooks
- drawing material

Assessment
The building of one natural – size profile representing all the students.
It is made of many different parts drawn by each student and all of
these together- like a mosaic - form the profile. While the profile is filled
in with all the drawings, students explain what they are doing, how the
body functions, describe themselves and the drawings. The final
message of this “mosaic profile” is meant to be “unity through
diversity”.

F (Évora, Portugal) / Level: Lower Secondary Subjects: English and Art – Teachers Helena Cavalheiro and Maria João Machado Number of lessons: 1 Competences:  By the end of the unit students will be able to: - name the most important organs and bones of the human body… - describe themselves physically and psychologically; - write some sentences about their favourite activities/hobbies - draw some bones/organs - draw pictures that relate to favourite subjects or daily life activities. Content Language/Terminology (words and phrases) Main target knowledge (English lessons)  Vocabulary related to the topic “human body”: bones and organs, senses  Adjectives related to shape and size  Adjectives related to feelings or psychological traits  expressing a wish: if I were ... I would…  expressing favourite activities (Art lessons)  Drawing parts of the body  Drawing pictures and objects that are related to their preferences, daily life Students will be able to:  Describe themselves physically and psychologically as well as be able to describe parts of the human body and their functions; Learn about the human body as an extraordinary machine that all humans share and which is at the same time absolutely unique in every human being;  Build a human profile made of many small items/drawings that

Process Activities / Tasks Types of interaction Context: -The human body - what is it like? -The human body: Imagine you are a part of the human body (bone, organ, senses) -What makes us unique and different from anybody else? Tasks : - drawing parts of the human body; - writing about activities and preferences; - describing human body, shapes, sizes and themselves. - in each of the lessons students prepare necessary material to gradually build up a common profile/drawing: - A teacher/student interaction is used to learn the necessary vocabulary and sentence construction; - in the Art class students draw and paint the necessary Items to build up /fill in the human profile(s); - the students present the lesson and describe themselves to the other colleagues. Resources / Materials - Pictures (human body) - notebooks - drawing material - recording material
  • 3. Assessment The building of one natural – size profile representing all the students. It is made of many different parts drawn by each student and all of these together- like a mosaic - form the profile. While the profile is filled in with all the drawings, students explain what they are doing, how the body functions, describe themselves and the drawings. The final message of this “mosaic profile” is meant to be “unity through diversity”.
