Introduction – Pre storytelling stage
The teacher presents again the hero, Teddy the bear. Teddy says
hello to the children and asks from them to sing the “Hello” song
with him.
The teacher revises the animals and colors taught in the previous
lesson.
Teddy presents his birthday photo album. His guests are hiding. He
asks the students to guess the animal on each picture (part of the
animal can be revealed so as to make guessing easier). The teacher
also encourages the pupils to guess and/or discuss the colour of each
animal.
Example:
T: What animal is this?
P: It’s a horse.
T: What colour is the horse?
P: Blue.
T: It’s a blue horse.

Pupils prepare for the story. They sit on their cushions in a circle.
Before listening to the story they can play the following games:
Pass the card: The teacher distributes flashcards to the pupils. Each
pupil passes his picture to the pupil sitting next to him while listening
to a song. When the teacher says ‘Stop’ each pupil has to call out the
animal on his/her flashcard. The pupils are also encouraged to say the
colour of each animal (e.g. blue horse).
The teacher presents the cover of the book and asks the pupils to say
what they see on the cover.
Pupils are encouraged to guess which animals will be mentioned in
the story.
While Storytelling Stage
The teacher reads the story to the pupils. Each time he/she stops and
allows pupils to guess the animal that comes next. They are also
encouraged to guess the color of the animal.
Pupils can also be encouraged to join in the storytelling. With the
support of the teacher, they can pose the question (what do you see?).
