Age: 7-9 (2nd/ 3rd grade)
Time: 40 minutes

Introduction: In this lesson, students are going to be introduced to a song called ‘Walking in
the Jungle’. They will listen to the song, dance and sing it, practise animal names and
adjectives and revise colours. They will also be practising verb to be in every activity they do,
as well as singing the song.
Warm up: The blackboard will be decorated with some materials that will make the
classroom look like the jungle. First, we are going to tell them that the class will be set in the
jungle and then we will make them a series of questions to place them in context. They will
be:
● Have you ever been to the jungle?
● Do you know if our country has any jungle? Where? (we will bring a photograph of
Misiones)
● Do you know any animal from the jungle? Which ones?
Introduce the topic
(10-15 minutes)
Different flaschards with animals from the Jungle are sticked on
the board and covered with “grass”. The students listen to an
onomatopoeia and they try to guess which animal is behind. If they
do so, the flaschard is revealed. Then, some characteristics of the
different animals are discussed such as their colour, size and
speed.
Watch the video We tell learners they are going to watch and listen to a song about
some kids visiting the jungle and discovering different animals.
Sing and dance the
song
We ask the students to stand up and we replay the video while we,
together with them, imitate it. Before the animal appears in the
video, we are going to stop it and ask them: Is it a frog? And they
will have to answer: Yes, it is or No, it isn’t, accordingly. Since the
song is quite simple, they are going to learn it through repetition.
Once we have finished, they are going to sit down and stick the
lyrics we are going to give them in their notebooks in case they
want to read and practice the song at home.
Focus on vocabulary Through playing Simon says we are going to check whether the
students remember the names of the animals presented at the
beginning. We will ask them to act as a monkey, for example,

hoping that they not only imitate its posture but also the noise it
makes.
Focus on structure Students are going to be asked to make some exercises on their
notebooks, so as not to leave the written part aside. One exercise
will consist of 4 sentences to complete with the verb to be, such
as: the frog _____ green. The second one will be more oriented
towards their own productions. They will have an example like: the
frog and the toucan are small. Then, they will have 3 other blank
spaces (together with a drawing of the animal we want them to
write about) to think about their own sentences.
Oral personalised
production of the
language
Masks game: to play this game, students have to take into account
all the concepts learned in the class: animal names and features,
colours, sounds, etc. They will be asked to sit on the floor making
a circle, and one student will have to cover his/her face with an
animal mask. He/she will ask: what am I? And the other students
have to give him/her hints so that he/she can discover the animal
they are.
