Line balancing
1. Line Balancing
Arranging a production line for an
even flow of production from one
work station to the next, so that
there are no delay at any work
station that will leave the next
work station with idle time
2. Line Balancing
Balancing may be achieved by
rearrangement of the workstations
or by adding machine and workers
at same of the station so that all
operation take about the same
amount of time
3. Line Balancing Procedure
1. Determine what task must be
performed to complete one unit of
finished product and the sequence
in which the task must be
performed. Draw the precedence
diagram
4. 2. Estimate the task time (amount of
time it take a worker to perform each
task).
3. Determine Cycle Time : Cycle time
is the time between successive unit
coming off the end of the line.
4. Assign each task to a work station
and balance the line
5. 5. Determine the number of
workstation required
Nt = sum of task time
