’24 Hour Party People’ a film about the rise and
fall of the rave scene in Manchester.
We filmed certain scenes of our music video in
some of the same locations as this film
Infinity Ink Music Video Final Edit Evaluation
The song which was chosen for a music video was Infinity by Infinity Ink. We had three days to do
the filming before editing our rough edit. We edited the video on Adobe Premiere Pro and have
uploaded the video to Youtube.
We had created a video for a ‘deep house’ genre song called ‘Infinity’ by ‘Infinity Ink’. After our
research we had decided to have our video a narrative based with some concept ideas in there too,
this means we had to stick to the codes and conventions for a narrative dance music video and we
did this by choosing the related settings, locations and themes along with props and storylines.
At first we wanted to have the video based around the 90’s rave
scene but realised this would have been too difficult to do as we
didn’t have the connections, time nor equipment to set up a
project that to be able to set up a rave, so we had still stuck to the
90’s rave theme by having the two characters in the video dressed
in 80s sports sweat jackets and other clothing related to 90’s rave
scene such as skinny or baggy pants, trainers, colourful shoes and
jackets and finally sunglasses and hats. I thought we also managed
to keep up this feel and theme throughout the video by carefully
picking where we wanted to film our video, we had picked areas
around Manchester that would relate to the theme such was
Manchester canals and abandoned warehouse within certain
backgrounds along with small old alleyways in Manchester, this all
relates as the 90’s rave scene was often based in abandoned
warehouses and the whole rave scene itself was largely based in
Manchester throughout the years so I think we did well to keep up
this atmosphere and feel to the video.
Some of the concept ideas in our video such as the stickers being
placed around the city is to represent ‘tagging’ another activity
that is often related to the kind of stereotype that are into the
90’s scene so we added that to define our characters some more.
The scenes in the music video with the tagging was also a good
choice in the long run as we did so many scenes with the stickers this allowed us to add lots of
effects during these scenes which helped us to get the overall effect we wanted for the video by
having lots of colours and strobe effects repeatedly flashing and keeping to the ‘Dance’ genres codes
and conventions. The tagging also gave us a chance to show more areas and locations of Manchester
city centre which helped he videos setting appear more convincing.
2. Jake Dargan IG3 Assignment
In our video thanks to the research we had done beforehand we was more
creative with our camera angles having certain shots being filmed with the
camera on the floor and having the characters step over the camera. Shots
like this add more depth and make the video feel more professional.
If we was to do the video again or if we had more time to edit, the first
thing I would change is some of the effects. Although I pleased with the
overall look of my video I feel as if some of the transitions from scene to scene with effects are not
as clean or smooth running as I would like so next time I would take longer in picking the effects that
I did and maybe use some of the mask effects of ‘Adobes After Effects’ rather than the transistion
effects on ‘Adobes Premiere Pro’.
Also if we had more time I would of liked our video to include more characters rather than just the
two. I believe that this would of gave the video a more professional feel as well as made the theme
more convincing as there was often large groups of friends dressed like this a travelling to raves in
the 90’s rave scene theme that we set the video in.
Apart from the props and costumes we were not very prepared with the equipment. I think we
would have gotten better results if we had used things such as a tripod to steady the camera during
wide shots and the use of lighting would have been useful in areas we were filming and did not have
much light.
Overall I am very pleased with the way the video turned out as I believe that we managed to capture
the setting and theme that we was aiming for which was the 90’s rave scene although the story
wasn’t a direct link to the theme. I am also very happy with the way the editing of the video went
although I would of liked to have more time to edit and make the video look as professional as
possible.
