1. Preliminarytaskvideoevaluation
For the preliminarytask,Iandthe othershad to make a videothatwas no longerthan3 minutesand
includedaconversation,aswell asmatchon actionwhenwalkingthroughadoor.We managedto
include all of these aspectswithinourvideoaswell asaddingdetail tothe mise-en-scene and
costume inthe video. We alsomade sure that the camera anglesandediting, bypremiereprowere
sufficienttoexplainthe plotof ourvideo.
The preliminaryvideofocusedonhowthe groupand I usedcamera anglestoexpressemotionsand
actionswithinthe plot.Imade sure that whenplanningthe video,Iincludeddialogueaswell as
camera anglesandframingwithinthe storyboard, sothismade the productionof the videomore
efficientaswe plannedinauseful way.The storyboard createdincludedbasicoutline of the plotof
the videoandthe people thatwill be includedaswell aswhattheywouldwear. We decidedtouse a
youngprotagonistas the mainfocusand base the storyat an oldbighouse where amysteriousstory
isuntoldto the mainactors. The actors are at a sleepover where Emily’sfriendsvisitherhouse and
theystart to share the untoldstoryabout the emptybarn. The sleepoverisbasedonHalloweento
add an extraspookyfeel andatmosphere forthe audience.Emilytellsthe storytothe otherswhen
sat aroundthe kitchentable, andtheydecide tovisitthe barnlate atnight.Whenapproachingthe
barn theyhesitate andonlyone actorgoesintothe barnthrough the door, the camera capturesthis
momentandleavesthe audience insuspensewithasuddenblackoutat the end.
I usedthe tripodand the shouldersupportpartsof equipmenttomake sure that all movementusing
the camera issteadyand accurate,to add a professional finishtothe video.Tomake the mostof the
videoandplotI usedwide shots,midshots,establishingshotsandpanning/tracking.Byusing
multiple angleswe were able toincludeextradetailforthe audience throughtheseangles, and
throughthe mise-en-scene. Atthe startof the videowe usedatiltedestablishingshottoidentifythe
locationasto where the videowasbased, before movingintoaobviousunsteadyuse of trackingto
add a rough andedgyfeel torepresentsomeone followingourmainprotagonist.Thisshotfollows
intothe kitchenwhere actorsare sat arounda messytable withbrightlightingtocontrastthe night,
wheninside mostshotsare wide shotsandclose upshotreverse shotfrom eachother wheninthe
middle of aconversationThe nextshotwasa steadytiltwhichfollowsthe unidentifiedactorupthe
stairsbefore havingacut to an extreme close uptoshow the action of her knockingonthe doorso
that the audience are able torelate the knockto the plot.We includedthe matchonactionwhen
three actors walkthroughthe door whenleavingthe large house withtheirtorches.Imanagedto
include alarge variationof anglesandframesto include the mostdetail aspossible andIwouldalso
include more pansandhighdominant anglestoemphasise the vulnerabilityof the actorsnexttime.
Throughoutfilmingwe managedtodoall filminginone nightsowe didnotdo anyreshootsor
retakesonanotherdate.By not completinganyotherfilmingthishasmeantthatnotall areas of the
videomeetthe qualitythatwe expectourvideotoachieve, nexttime we wouldmake sure thatif
there are any small problemsaswell asbigtheywill be sortedimmediatelyastheycan be to
improve the professionalqualityandlookof ourcreations.Whenfilmingwe usedextraartificial
lightstomake sure thatthe facesandemotionsof the actors were visiblebecauseitwasextremely
dark by the barn we were filmingatdue to the time of day. The filmingwasalot more technical as
firstexpecteddue tothe amountof timesittookto make sure we hadall shots that were included
withinourstoryboard.Withdialogue we didnothave anyequipmenttoimprove the soundquality
2. of anythingsaidandso thismeantwhenlookingbackatthe clips, some dialogue wasquietand
some dialogue wasextremelyloud.Throughoutfilmingwe workedwell asateam andmanagedto
complete all shotsrequiredinone day, thismeantwe hadmore time for editingandthatwe were
efficient.Nexttime we will definitelymake sure thatall shotsare tooan outstandingqualityand
reshotif needed.
Editingwasthe longestpartof the productionprocessbecause we hadtoarrange and delete clips
that were notneededandalsomakessure all fileswere namedsowe knew whichcliptoinclude
where whenitcame to addingthemto the streamof clipstocreate our video.Witheditingwe tried
to make it lookminimalistictothe audience andmake sure thatit was nottoo slow at cuttingfrom
shotto shot, this wasa task as it meantthat all editinghadtobe done to an extremelygoodlevel,
and thismeanta lotof time.We made sure that all editingwascompletedatlunchtimesandin
lessonsaswell asafterschool, byputtinginextratime we managedtocomplete aspectsof the
editingwe thoughtatfirstwouldbe a huge problem.Cuttingfromcliptoclip andmakingsure the
timingswere correctwere the easieraspectsandthe harderoneswere makingsure dialoguewas
understandableandcleartothe audience alongwithmakingsure that lightingwasright. We were
able to increase the volume oncertainclipswhereitwasnoticeablyquietandwe alsolightenedthe
clipon the stairsbecause we didnotreshootthisarea of the film.Howeverwe didnotmanage to
finisheverysingle aspectincludingthe musictowardsthe endof the clip, thiswasbecause the music
wouldnotuploadto premiere prowithoutacertainlinkthatwe were notable toget holdof and
thishas meantthat the musicworkssometimesbutnotalways.Howeverwe didmanage to
complete the textandaddedthe titlestowardsthe endtoshow whowasinvolvedwiththe creation.
Nexttime Iwoulddefinitelymake sure thatwe includedmusicthatworkstoa highlevel of quality
and all shotsare smoothwhenchangingfromone toanother.
To take forwardto the maintaskI have reallylearnedthattime iskeyandorganisationisextremely
importantwhenitcomesto creatinga film.Thisisbecause duringproductionthere needstobe 2 or
3 shotsof each sectionof the story boardbefore knowingthatthere are enougheditstoaddinand
alsodelete.Alsothatitisbettertohave more shots thantoo little because youcanchoose andI
knowthat inthe main taskthe storyboardbeingdetailedisveryusefullybecause youknow exactly
whatneeds to be done whenitcomesto filmingandeditingatthe end.
