Evaluation 7) looking back at your preliminary
1.
2. The preliminary task benefited my group greatly in
terms of experience and how to avoid common
errors which may be done almost unconsciously
such as exporting a draft copy instead of the final
product, this of course could be vital. We also
gained invaluable knowledge about the typical
camera angles and familiarising ourselves with
Adobe Premiere Pro. We have also learnt how to
structure our planning time and early on we
produced several documents such as our schedule,
what props we needed (typical of conventions e.g.
gun) and how many roles needed to be fulfilled.
Within our storyboard we also included which
camera angles would be utilised in each scene.
3. A positive impact of our mistakes during the
preliminary activity included the steadiness of our
camera. When we zoomed it was not very smooth in the
execution, we also felt as though the transitions were
used too excessively. An appraisal received from the
audience within the feedback was how we laid out our
titles, they felt that we merged the sound and the
appearance of the title to good effect and it was
suitable to the conventions and the previous scene.
Previously we had just positioned the titles with no
intended purpose. In the preliminary task we did not
research a specific genre this could have led to
confusion in the conventions, however we have looked
into each action and decided why it is typical of the
genre and what effect it could potentially create. We
also looked into what exact camera angles we wanted
whereas we could only demonstrate the key camera
shots (e.g. 180 degree rule).
4. As we had more time to plan our final opening
sequence, we could research codes and
conventions with more depth, we researched
other action/adventure films and noted what
sound, mise-en-scene, camera angles and
editing was being used. We could then see how
this created the certain senses which they were
intended to make. Multiple storyboards meant
that it was easier to co-ordinate between our
footage and where we wanted to edit it into our
sequence. Key frames were introduced whereas
we maintained a constant sound level
regardless of background distractions in our
preliminary task.
