Your questions about … the Pyramids in Egypt
For a long time, the pyramids were one of the world’s big mysteries. But
today, we know a little more about them. Dr. Daniel Knowles from the
Egyptian Museum in Cairo answers your questions.
How old are the pyramids?
About 4,600 years old.
Why did the Egyptians build the pyramids?
The ancient Egyptians built them for their pharaohs, the kings of Egypt.
They were their tombs. For example, the Great Pyramid was a tomb for
the Pharoah Khufu.
How long did it take to build one?
We think that it took between twenty and thirty years to build one. They
didn’t have any machines then.
How many people did it take to build a pyramid?
We don’t know exactly, but thousands and thousands of people!
How big is the Great Pyramid?
It’s very, very big. There are about two million three hundred thousand
blocks of stone in this pyramid.
Circle T (True) or F (False). Justify the false.
1 Dr. Knowles doesn’t know anything about the pyramids. T / F
_____________________________________________________________________________
2 The pyramids are thousands of years old. T / F
____________________________________________________________________
3 It took thousands of years to build a pyramid. T / F
____________________________________________________________________
4 There weren’t any machines when they built the pyramids. T / F
____________________________________________________________________
5 It took hundreds of people to build a pyramid. T / F
___________________________________________________________________
Answer the questions.
1 Does Dr. Knowles work in a pyramid?
_________________________________________________________________________________
2 Did the pyramids exist 20,000 years ago?
_________________________________________________________________________________
3 Who were the pharoahs?
_________________________________________________________________________________
4 What was the name of Pharoah Khufu’s tomb?
_________________________________________________________________________________
5 How many people did it take to build a pyramid?
__________________________________________________________________________________
Transition: excellent! I will correct it and then I will send the assignment with
the teacher”
Closure 5’:
This will be my last class with you, so I will say goodbye and thank the
students and the teacher for their help and for teaching me in this last

Your questions about … the Pyramids in Egypt For a long time, the pyramids were one of the world’s big mysteries. But today, we know a little more about them. Dr. Daniel Knowles from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo answers your questions. How old are the pyramids? About 4,600 years old. Why did the Egyptians build the pyramids? The ancient Egyptians built them for their pharaohs, the kings of Egypt. They were their tombs. For example, the Great Pyramid was a tomb for the Pharoah Khufu. How long did it take to build one? We think that it took between twenty and thirty years to build one. They didn’t have any machines then. How many people did it take to build a pyramid? We don’t know exactly, but thousands and thousands of people! How big is the Great Pyramid? It’s very, very big. There are about two million three hundred thousand blocks of stone in this pyramid. Circle T (True) or F (False). Justify the false. 1 Dr. Knowles doesn’t know anything about the pyramids. T / F _____________________________________________________________________________ 2 The pyramids are thousands of years old. T / F ____________________________________________________________________ 3 It took thousands of years to build a pyramid.
