3. MIDBRAIN
• The midbrain or mesencephalon is the
forward-most portion of the brainstem and
is associated with vision, hearing, motor
control, sleep and wakefulness, arousal
(alertness), and temperature regulation.
• It is called mesencephalon.
8. TECTUM
• The tectum (“roof’’) is the dorsal part of the
mesencephalon(midbrain)
• Consist of 2Inferior and 2superior colliculi.
-The superior colliculus is involved in
preliminary visual processing and control of
eye movements.
- The inferior colliculus is involves in auditory
processing .it receives input from various brain
stem nuclei thalamus, which relays auditory
information to the primary auditory cortex.
9.
10. Tegmentum
Tegmentum is involved with arousal’
It comprises
• Substantia nigra
-is a pigmented layer of grey matter contain
nerve cells that control muscle tone.
• Red nucleus
-Involve s in motor coordination.
-Connection with cerebellum (hind brain)for
coordination of movement.
