2. Analysing icons in the two
films: MASK
This icon shows a
correlation between the
two films. It shows the
identity of an individual to
be hidden, and the
identity of the killer hidden
too.
CORRELATION: Stock situation – masked killer
3. This icon proves that particular items can
make up a genre as key elements piece
together the story and the make-up of a
character. Halloween (1978) and Scream
(1996) This film being made eighteen years
apart still shares similar icons and shares
the same genre.
4. It is clear that murder and
death will appear in a horror,
but only because it is
expected to. Death and
murder are both a theme
seen throughout nearly all
horrors. This means that the
horror genre is made by the
themes of death and
murder.
As it is clear the theme of the
two movies relate to the stock
situations in both; stabbing and
a knife in the back. This shows
the killers to be sadistic or
masochistic. This proves a
correlation between the two
films, therefore proving Burton’s
theory.
5. CORRELATIONS:
‘Women in jeopardy’ (Halloween) and ‘women in
danger’ (Scream).
This means in both films, women seem to be the
victims so are seen to be vulnerable and weak.
This is one of the key elements in horror films and
therefore proves Burtons theory.
