'How do the cabaret songs and routines comment on the social issues which are the background for the story of Cabaret?'
Satirical on every level, Bob Fosse's 1972 film Cabaret redefines the previously accepted genre of the musical. Using the songs and routines as cunning
tools of social commentary the musical numbers both predict and interpret the world of Berlin in 1931.
The opening routine, 'Wilkommen', is a powerful introduction to the opposing worlds of the protagonists Brian and Sally and also indicates the
significance all songs in the Cabaret will be instilled with. As the camera moves from the distorted mirror to the grotesquely masked face of the Master

Indeed, from the beginning Sally is a metaphor for the indistinctive, hedonistic masses of people who long for the glory they observe in others and
claim should be theirs at any cost.
Despite her claims that she is driven by 'divine decadence', Sally uses her costumes and make–up to obscure her inner desires. When she goes to meet
her father she has 'a nun's hands' and it is as this unmasked and vulnerable woman that she and Brian become lovers. In the song 'Maybe this time',
which is intercut with footage of Brian and Sally's relationship, the lyrics and cinematic structure are used to negatively answer the hopeful plea
'Maybe this time I'll win'. As Sally stands on the stage of a near deserted Kit Kat Klub she sings passionately, fully clothed and for the only time not
exaggerating her sexuality. Although she claims that she is a 'lady peaceful, lady happy– that's what i long to be' the bright lights show this 'normal'
Sally as attractive but not extraordinary, something she will ultimately never tolerate.
Likewise the intercuts of footage also reveal in Sally and Brian a relationship which will never last. As their eyes meet across the room, Fosse
deliberately pans back to show the extreme distance between the characters. And although their relationship is now sexual, Brian's echo of Sally's
feminine self concept 'doesn't my body drive you wild with desire?' reflects a man as tentative about his sexuality as Sally is about anonymous
domesticity.

The passage of time affects our memories of the past by the memory content that we experience in life which shows us that the more changing
experiences we have, the longer subjective duration lasts for. The bigger and more intense memories have a greater impact on the memories that
we tend to hold on to and remember for lifetime. For example, a weekend spent at home doing our usual routines passes very quickly. In contrast,
a weekend when we travel to a new destination with a friend lasts much longer or like in novels that we have read when the Nazi regime took over
Europe and cause 60 million people to lose their lives. By stating this, I understand that we can recall many different, new, and catastrophic events.
This "memory load" expands over time. Also, if we look into Maus when Vladek was once a wealthy man before the war, is brought to having to
garner and reserve even the smallest of items, such as the wrapper from cheese, or the cigarettes from his rations. These items took on a huge
importance to Vladek, and even years later, he feels unable to dispose them cause of what he had to go through. Vladek also has had a tough time
asking for help doing daily chores around the house because of how his skills and determination proved his survival during the Holocaust. The way

Sex and the City Review Essay
Unlike many, many, many of you out there that completely HATED this movie, I on the other hand was appeased. Right now, I know you all (that
have seen the movie) probably think I'm nuts, but before you judge me, read my review and explanations.
For those who have not yet seen the movie and plan on it: DO NOT READ THIS!
Now, I think a huge reason why I didn't find this movie so horrible is because I went in with hugely low expectations based on the trailer, so the few
funny and likable parts of the film to me were a huge success. But yes, I do agree with many of those out there, it's still shameful compared to the

The opulence and over indulgence of this film is ludicrous. I mean, did they not think that considering most people have been hit hard by the recession

Now the plot, I know there was one in there somewhere, just really tricky to spot, someone let me know when they have found it, please. Oh wait a
sec.....is it when they complain about the petty problems in their over–indulgent lives, and how they deal with it (the poor dears) the story line? Oh yes,
that's it....hmm, somehow I don't see how that spoke to many. So let's examine the so–called "plot":
1) Carrie is feeling humdrum about married life after two years, and meeting and kissing Aiden in Abu Dhabi to realize she is lucky to have a
husband that wants to spend time with her in their home. At least she told him right away this time, and Mr. Big's shrugging off the kiss after a day of
no talking seems unrealistic. Not to mention she now gives an idea that she will never be satisfied, I mean she spends the whole series chasing down

We were blessed to hear some good news today, 1st that my bone marrow biopsy came back clear and 2nd that my ECHO was normal. We are so

implanted. It is a minor surgery but thankfully, done under anesthesia. After the procedure, I will be admitted and prepped for chemo which will

Both films are musicals about cabaret dancers except Gentlemen Prefer Blondes stars two leading ladies whereas Cabaret only has one leading
lady. Another similarity between the two films is the gold digger aspect, Lorelei being the gold digger in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes are only
interested in materialistic things which is very similar to Sally's interest in a wealthy man except Sally is also interested in what a wealthy man can
do for her acting career. A few of the differences in the two films were that they are filmed during different era's and so being that Gentlemen Prefer
Blondes was filmed in the early fifties, it is much more conservative and even though Cabaret is set in the thirties the film was actually filmed in the
early seventies when it was popular to really push the envelope and so this films plot is much more risquГ©. Another difference with these two
films is that in Cabaret the plot is more dramatic really focusing on the rise of Nazism and the topic of sexual preference by having the three main

Minnelli, a director who made a career out of blending emotions with spectacle and creating characters who strive for beauty. At its core, Father of the
Bride is a comedy; that means the number one goal is to make the audience laugh. Of course, it has all the Minnelli traits you'd expect: beautiful sets,
precise compositions, fluid camera movement, and a focus on character emotion that permeates the frame. But this is all in service of the comedy, and
the comedy completely aligns with Minnelli's sensibilities. In Stanley T. Banks, Minnelli creates a character who initially believed weddings were all
about love. But he quickly learns, much to his chagrin, that they're really just a source of endless chaos and bills. As the film progresses, the
preparations become more chaotic and expensive and Stanley becomes increasingly befuddled and lost. It's hysterical. In Minnelli's musicals and

also similar, in many respects, to the work of Vincente Minnelli. Minnelli, especially with his musicals, carefully designed every little detail. For him,
the mise–en–scene was paramount, so much so that character development would be expressed through the scenery. For example, Gene Kelly
literally brings color wherever he goes in American in Paris. In Minnelli's world, the worst thing a character can do is bring ugliness. Beauty was
key. But that's not to say that Minnelli's films were light and fluffy. Even his airier films, like The Pirate, had tonal complexity. Demy's musical
world is also highly stylized and designed. Everything looks extremely artificial and character joy matches their outfits. But it's not completely the

Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on adapted into a twelve Tony award winning
Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret became dormant in public eye, Bob Fosse adopted the musical and decided to put in on the big
