Delivery of Downscaled Agro- Weather Advisories Through Text Messages to Sorghum Farmers in Kenya A Project by ACRE Africa Facilitated by The Finance Innovation for Climate Change Fund, A component of the DFID Kenya StARCK+ Initiative
Downscaled Agro-Weather Advisories
Outcomes • 30% of farmers were able to seek advice from the agricultural extension officers on the best agronomic practices to ensure higher yields as well as increase production by taking advantage of 2 planting seasons in a year • 85% of the farmers made climate- information plans and decisions • 4,000 farmers reached • 2 AgriBusiness partners were able to make informed business planning decisions
Scale –Up Plans • Use of Village Champions for a peer-to-peer on- ground CIS communication • Stimulates community interest and discussions • Complements digital tools • Engages women and youth • Dissemination of CIS to other stakeholders (Financial Institutions) • Through an Agri-Risk Scoring Tool

  • 1. Delivery of Downscaled Agro- Weather Advisories Through Text Messages to Sorghum Farmers in Kenya A Project by ACRE Africa Facilitated by The Finance Innovation for Climate Change Fund, A component of the DFID Kenya StARCK+ Initiative

Outcomes • 30% of farmers were able to seek advice from the agricultural extension officers on the best agronomic practices to ensure higher yields as well as increase production by taking advantage of 2 planting seasons in a year • 85% of the farmers made climate- information plans and decisions • 4,000 farmers reached • 2 AgriBusiness partners were able to make informed business planning decisions

Scale –Up Plans • Use of Village Champions for a peer-to-peer on- ground CIS communication • Stimulates community interest and discussions • Complements digital tools • Engages women and youth • Dissemination of CIS to other stakeholders (Financial Institutions) • Through an Agri-Risk Scoring Tool
