Key Objectives
1. To evaluate the potential of diverse program models for climate finance as applied in agricultural
landscapes in Africa.
2. To inform African agricultural and climate policy communities about innovative approaches to
managing rural landscapes for food production, poverty reduction, and climate change adaptation.
3. To support the exchange and knowledge about how to achieve joint objectives of food production,
rural development, and ecosystem management.
Key Activities
1. Develop a credible methodology for evaluating climate finance models for their multiple effects on
food production, rural poverty alleviation, climate change adaptation, and ecosystem health.
2. Analyze selected climate finance and program models applicable to agricultural landscapes in Africa.
3. A set of visual aids to communicate the relation of agricultural landscapes and climate change.
4. Implement the two-year Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative to assess, promote, and
share innovations related to the integrated development of rural landscapes for food production,
ecosystem conservation, rural livelihoods, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
5. Assess and report on project impact.
Key Deliverables
1. A project report synthesizing findings on climate finance models, their impacts, and their potential.
2. A policy brief summarizing results and implications for policy development in Africa.
3. A journal article or book chapter describing innovations and potentials for climate finance to
support sustainable agriculture, poverty alleviation, and ecosystem conservation in Africa.
4. All research and policy reports, and visual aids are posted to the CENA website.
Expected Outcomes
1. African policymakers and research and development organizations understand the implications and
potential of emerging climate finance models, and applying them to support sustainable agriculture.
2. Ability for African scientists and development specialists to draw climate finance to support
sustainable development of rural landscapes.
3. African countries establish policies and programs that promote agricultural climate change adaptation
and mitigation strategies.
