2. PERSONAL LEARNING PREFERENCE
• At the beginning of this class, I took the learning preferences survey, which gave me
the following scores: 3 for active, 5 for sensing, 5 for visual, and 5 for global. My learning
preferences are close to moderate in all categories. Throughout the semester, I’ve
learned to use other learning preferences like verbal or sequential, which weren’t really
my strong learning preferences. I’ve learned to talk to other classmates more and I’ve
tried using outlines throughout the semester, which have both help me become a better
verbal learner. I didn’t think talking to other classmates about the class would help me
learn better, especially since I’m more of a visual learner. I think knowing about learning
preferences helped me a lot during the semester in my overall learning. I never knew
about learning preferences and knowing about them made me a better learner by allowing
me to use my weaker learning preferences and turning them into strengths.

3. LEARNING PATHWAY
• The learning pathway I chose at the beginning of the semester was “learning warrior” and
I chose it because I wanted to utilize the fewest amount of technologies to learn. I also
wanted to apply what I learned in this class to my other classes so that I can become a
better learner. As a learning warrior, I was able to get a deeper knowledge of social
technologies. I also never changed my learning pathway because I wanted to follow
through and maximize my learning experience as a learning warrior. Applying what I learn
from social technologies to my other classes amplified by learning experience.

4. ACTIVITIES
• I believe social networking and social bookmarking really helped in my broad
understanding of social technologies because sharing information from other people
around the world and joining online social communities really contributed into my
learning. Using the Delicious website can save anybody time by finding certain links to
topics you are interested in because many people post helpful links that can fall under
your category. I was able to get a deeper understanding of social technologies through
massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs). These types of games can really reflect
what happens in the real world and the ability to connect with thousands to millions of
players is insane. There are many role-playing games that allow users to play a role in a
virtual world. A game like Virtonomics can help a person learn how to manage a business
and you can interact with other people and learn more about business. This was also the
specific activity that worked best for learning with others.

5. TOP 3 SOCIAL TECHNOLOGIES: SOCIAL
BOOKMARKING
• One social technology quest that helped me in my learning was the social bookmarking
quest. Social bookmarking showed me that you could learn a lot from other peoples’
contributions. A website where you can find the contributions is Delicious.com, which is
the website that I explored to contribute to my learning. You can enter any word or phrase
in the simple search bar they provide on their website and instantly find interesting things
that relate to what you’re learning. Learning preferences that this quest accommodated
for were my sensing and visual learning preferences because I was able to use the facts
that I already knew and apply them to the links provided by other people. There were
also many images followed by information that helped me learn more about the art
world. The simple visual aids on certain links that were provided also kept me entertained
while learning about subjects like business or accounting.

6. TOP 3 SOCIAL TECHNOLOGIES: SOCIAL
NETWORKING
• The second technology quest that I explored was social networking. Social networking
websites like Facebook.com or Livemocha.com helped me understand that there are
many people out there willing to contribute to your learning. I was able to use
Facebook.com to find groups that have people who share their knowledge in certain
subjects like accounting. Livemocha.com helps people who want to learn a language and
when I explored this website, I was surprised that it even existed. You can literally learn a
language through this website and you can teach others the language that you know. The
learning preferences that this quest accommodates for were my verbal and sensing
preferences. Livemocha.com and Facebook.com accommodated my verbal preference
because I learned best when I was given explanations. Livemocha.com showed short
phrases in another language that I was able to learn quickly. I was able to use my
sensing preference because language is something almost everyone uses everyday.

7. TOP 3 SOCIAL TECHNOLOGIES: MMOGS
• The last technology quest that I explored was the quest about massively multiplayer
online games. This technology was exciting because I love video games. I played certain
games that helped me amplify my knowledge of the real world. One game from the class
was a simple game about a lemonade stand, which you try and make the best lemonade
for the right price, without wasting all your supplies. It’s a simple game, but if you
compare it to the real world, you can learn a lot about business like peoples’ tendencies to
buy something on a certain day, for a particular price. This social technology
accommodated for my visual, active, and sensing preferences. There are many visual
aids in video games that helped me actively learn. I tried different strategies in the
lemonade game based off what I learned from the real world.

8. SYNTHESIS
• The most interesting social technology that interested me the most was the social technology
about MMOGs. It was also the social technology that surprised me the most because I learned
that there is a connection between the virtual/online world and the real physical world. All these
social technologies work as learning tools, but the most distracting one would be the social
networking websites because you can get caught up in distractions from friends or family. I
would really like to utilize MMOGs to improve my learning because they are like simulations of
the real world. I would like to discover simulations of real world situations that deal with
accounting because that’s my major.
The social technologies that worked best for me were the social bookmarking and social
networking technologies. They worked well for my learning preferences because I am a
sensing learner, which means I like to learn about facts and I also like the connection to the real
world. Social bookmarking and social networking websites gave me certain websites that I can
learn and connect the real world to. There were also lots of visual aids to accommodate my
visual learning preference because some of the links I clicked through provided me with charts
and diagrams that helped me learn more easier.

9. FUTURE LEARNING
• I would like to continue to learn using social bookmarking, social networking and MMOGs. I
want to continue to use them all for my learning because they all contribute in different
ways, but they all help me to learn. Playing MMORPGs will really help me simulate real life
situations because the virtual world is somewhat of a parallel universe to our real word. We
learn using what we know and apply it to MMORPGs; this can show me whether or not my
application to what I know in real life can work or not. Joining certain social networking or
social bookmarking websites can help me connect with people around to world who are
knowledgeable in what I might want to learn in the future.
I will continue to use all three technologies to contribute to my learning experience after
this class. I’d like to use them all because they all help me in one way or another. For
example, social networking websites can help me connect to other people around the world
who can share their knowledge with me. I will also continue to use MMOG’s for non-learning
purposes because I’m a gamer. I usually play games on a daily basis, so it’s something I will
do. I will also use social networking websites like Facebook because that is also something I
use on a daily basis. I will not avoid any of these social technologies because I want to utilize
all resources of learning tools to maximize my learning capacity.
