1. Israel has a Failed State Index Score Due to the West Bank...
Israel
According to the US–based Failed States Index (FSI), Israel ranks number 67 and is in greater
danger of becoming a failed state than the likes of Congo, Cuba and Jordan. Despite Israel's
booming economy, high life expectancy and low unemployment, part of the explanation for its low
FSI ranking is the West Bank. According to the Fund for Peace's methodology, Israel/West Bank is
considered one entity when determining its Failed States Index score. The issues Israel/ West Bank
scored highest on the FIS were; external intervention (8), factionalized elites (8), human rights (8),
group grievance (9.3), and refugees (8). Other sources of Israel's instability stems from the Israeli–
Palestinian conflict, inequality, internal breakdown and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to attacks Israel began building the anti–terrorism fence to stop West Bank terrorists
from killing Israeli citizens. Whatever analysis is put on the history, there can be no disputing that
the Palestinian Territories (Gaza and the West Bank) have been occupied by Israel since the Six Day
War and that this occupation has had profound implications for the development of the two occupied
territories. The opposing sides have been in an almost continuous state of armed conflict. The longer
the Israeli–Palestinian conflict continue, the weaker Israel as a modern state will become.
Regional Implications from Israel's Instability
The West Bank continues to remain an occupied territory with Israel being the occupying power.
Israel's policies in the West Bank have displaced a million Palestinians, forcing them into refugee
status which in turn has led to a refugee influx in neighboring country, Jordan. Palestinian existence
in the West Bank is being increasingly confined to ghettos cut off from farmland, schools, medical
care and from other Palestinians. Some would argue that Israel's aggressive policies against
Palestinians provoke terror attacks on Israeli citizens. The resort to terrorist acts by Palestinians,
especially suicide bombings in crowded public places, has caused them to lose much of the
international sympathy their cause would otherwise benefit from. Similarly, the cruelties of Israelis
to the Palestinians, especially in the ongoing siege of Gaza,

3. Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay
Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one genre
that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap music videos
have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been criticized
numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music
for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with
clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women exists is because rap
as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. The excuses used to justify the misogyny in
rap are incomplete and lack accurate support. The most effective way ... Show more content on

A rapper couldn't use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video, without
getting heat for it" (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap truly takes
sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap music videos,
diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance around them. This is
the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and boys all over the world see
the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this concerns the parents of these
kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V directly correlate to their
development and thinking: "exposure to rap music videos, which is explicit about sex and violence
and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky behavior, may influence
adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices" (Thrash). Parents should become more aware of
these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching them. Yet, once they get to
the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important that they are educated about
this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think it would also be important to
provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a problem among girls many
companies and organizations put together workshops to educate young girls. One example of this is

5. Human Intelligence Operations Targeted Against Hamas Essay
For hundreds of years human intelligence operations have been conducted. Nation states have
always had a desire and a need to know what friendly and unfriendly countries are doing. For
national security purposes knowledge is power. Human intelligence collection has changed
throughout history and is different depending on who is conducting it. International laws, brokered
agreements, internal laws and policies dictate how human intelligence is collected. By looking at a
known adversary, one can apply a human intelligence mission in order to defeat or negate the
enemies' actions. No region is more suitable for human intelligence missions than Israel and the
occupied territories of Palestine. Israeli intelligence and the Israeli military have ... Show more

From the beginning, Muslims have always been unhappy with the presence of Israel in "Muslim
land", specifically Palestine. This conflict is the main reason why Hamas was created and why they
are so popular in the Middle East. Hamas officially published its charter or "The Covenant of the
Islamic Resistance Movement" on August 18, 1988. Hamas is a Palestinian nationalistic and Islamic
fundamentalist organization. The charter spells out the organizations objectives, goals, and end state
and has been unchanged to this day. The charter calls upon Islamic jihad in order to take back the
land of Palestine that was stolen by Israel. The charter also states the goals of establishing an Islamic
Palestinian state in the West Bank and The Gaza Strip, the total destruction of Israel, the return of all
Palestinian refugees back to Israel and East Jerusalem, and East Jerusalem be recognized as the
Palestinian capital. When Hamas published its charter, it created a rift between the Muslim
Brotherhood. Even though Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood remained linked by there pro
Islamic ideology, the Muslim Brotherhood was considered a non–violent organization. Hamas on
the other hand made no qualms about a violent jihad against Israel.

7. The Contemporary Historical-Jesus By Elisabeth Schüssler...
The contemporary "Historical–Jesus" is in a kyriarchal structure of domination which belittles
feminism and Judaism. In Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza's book, Jesus and the Politics of
Interpretation, Fiorenza seeks to break the kyriarchal context in which Jesus is and "foster an
identity crisis in the scientific self–understanding of the Historical–Jesus scholarship" (Fiorenza 2).
Fiorenza, a professor at Harvard Divinity school, specializes in scripture and interpretation from a
feminist perspective. She has noticed masculine language which dominates in the construction of the
Historical–Jesus and attempts to challenge this language to reform the context of the quest for the
Historical–Jesus so it is all inclusive. Jesus and the Politics of Interpretation is not another book
which seeks to describe who the Historical–Jesus is; rather, "it is a sustained rhetorical inquiry into
the scholarly discourses that produce the Historical–Jesus as an article of trade and an object of
spiritual consumption in the global capitalist market". (Fiorenza 13) The Historical Jesus: A Guide
for the Perplexed by Helen K. Bond is a supplement to Fiorenza as it is full of the quests which
Fiorenza desires to challenge. The Historical–Jesus as a "symbolic scholarly construct and as an
ideologically produced subject" allows elite men to be in a position which subordinates woman
(Fiorenza 15). To combat the elite malestream perspective, Fiorenza investigates the power and

offer. "Allow me to lead the way." Hannibal's car was nicer than Will had expected. It was a sleek,
spotless black bentley, the interior smelling of leather and pine. Will slid into the passenger seat and

11. The Night Divided Summary
This book that I read is called "The Night Divided" by Jennifer A. Nielsen. This story takes place in
East Germany right after the government decided to put a wall up to separate the country in half.
With the sudden rise of the Berlin Wall, twelve year old Gerta, the main character of the story, finds
her family divided overnight. Gerta's brothers were Fritz, who was the older brother in the group at
14 years old at the time and Dominic, who was the second oldest. Which means that Gerta was left
as the younger sibling. Their father, Papi a.k.a Aldous, was involved with some rebellion against the
government. Though he had never been arrested for anything, the Stasi, their secret police, keeps

By about 5 minutes, she already made a dent in the wall that was about 2 feet in so digging would be
easier than she thought. Then she started thinking about the Stasi and how much trouble she would
be in if they found out and how she was already under the Death Strip which is basically the border
around the berlin wall. She went back home and got her brother part of the plan too. A few months
after, they decided to make a garden just outside the building to show that they were doing things
that are totally not suspicious. Months later, they ran into a problem. They got caught by that same
guard that scared Gerta and Anna away from the border! They made a really big boo–boo!
Fortunately, they manipulates the guard so now, he is willing to let them keep going with the tunnel,
but his family and him has to come with them. They did the most obvious thing that anyone would
do, say yes! They had lots of troubles during their hard work of digging including stealing a pulley
to pull up buckets of dirt to the surface easier, buying a new shovel that they were supposed to use
for food, and lots and lots of rocks in the way. At the end of the summer, they heard something that
they didn't expect to happen. They heard digging. Digging from the other side of their tunnel! The
first thought that came into Gerta's mind was that it was Papi and Dominic but, Mami and Fritz
thought something different. They thought that more of the Stasi came and decided to capture them
for the tunnel. Gerta didn't seem to listen because she just kept digging harder and harder with the
shovel. The Border guard came just in time because he saw everyone digging with Gerta ready to
bump into border guards but instead there was Papi and Dominic! They were a bit confused to why
they were there but it turns out that the note that Anna gave to Gerta symbolizes that

17. The World Of A Plane Crash
In September of 2004, Lost first aired on ABC. The drama series about people stranded on an island
after a plane crash, had elements of science fiction that J.J Abrams used to captivate millions every
episode. The series starts by introducing the main characters, Jack and Kate, and their personal
backgrounds leading up to the commercial plane crash. However, as the series progresses, characters
once believed to have little impact in the show, are highlighted in a single episode and shed light on
topics never previously thought about. "The 23rd Psalm," the tenth episode in season two,
demonstrates this aspect of the series very well. The science fiction characteristic of the series is
toned down to bring attention to the drug trading in Africa, specifically Nigeria. "The 23rd Psalm"
attempts to inform people around the world how organized crime in Nigeria has affected the lives of
many who live there, what they have to do to survive, and the sphere of influence drug trafficking
has around the world. The episode begins with Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye–Agbaje) finding out that
Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan) has in his possession a Virgin Mary statue. Eko demands to see
the statue only to break in open and revealing the heroin inside. Eko then demands that Charlie take
him to the location where he found the statue, which happens to be a small plane crash site farther

He opens the door leading outside the apartment, and a cool but nice breeze blows against his face,

and claimed it to be Palestine. Later on, Palestine was conquered by the Arabs. For more than a

With much resentment for those who stole their home of ancient times, there was the creation of the

In 1917, Palestine was endowed to Britain. Palestine was acknowledged as a League of Nations

population for stealing land that the Arabs claimed as theirs. Riots were commonly repeated, and
following was a revolt. Fabricating the rivalry between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine.
In 1947, the United Nations rationed the land into states between the Arabs and the Jews. This was
not accepted by the Arabs, so a war was declared. With the Jews being victorious, they extended

With the Jews and the Arabs disagreeing with one another, many wars broke out, terror raids

How Justified Were President Lincoln's Wartime Decisions?
In a time of war, it is necessary for the President to enforce limits on the power of individuals.
President Lincoln was entirely justified in limiting rights during the wartime situation to protect the
nation. It was also necessary for him to increase the size of the federal army in order for the North to
have any possibility of winning the war. Lincoln had to do all that he could to keep the Border

C., would become enemy territory. If the line between the North and South shifted further north, the
Union would lose many people, jobs, and railroad lines. President Lincoln needed Kentucky because
it supplied much of the iron, gunpowder, and grain for the South. Slavery still existed in the Border
States, which could be used to lure the Confederate States back. Lincoln's priority was to preserve
the Union. Keeping Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and West Virginia may have made it
possible.
It was entirely necessary for Lincoln to limit the rights of individuals. Northerners who sympathized
with the South, also called "Copperheads", openly attacked President Lincoln and the draft in
newspapers, magazines, and their words. They often shipped goods to the South. Their actions may
have posed a threat to the Union and could have lead to the loss of Border States. To prevent this,
Lincoln arranged for "supervised" voting, and rightfully suspended Habeas Corpus and free speech.
Those who threatened the North by outwardly speaking against the Union could be jailed

Within holy heaven, Satan infuses the sin of pride into the atmosphere by raising up against God, the
King of all authority. Such opposition meets the Lord of all who casts this arrogant angel down into
the depths of hell–a place where evil abounds. This opposition proves only the beginning of ensuing
war which will intensify until God silences it in the depths of hell. In Paradise Lost, John Milton
uncovers the brewing embers of this war right from its first spark. Milton expounds upon the fall of
Satan with the intent of giving his readers a taste of the tension which this war between God and
Satan gives. This taste will spark an understanding within the readers' mind of the presence of this

With evil and rebellious pride intertwined, Satan will and can never consider untangling these fibers
but will strengthen them through his resolve to war. Satan's fall from his rank of esteem transformed
him into the antithesis of evil. As a fallen creature of God, Satan no longer loves holiness and
righteousness. Instead, he wars against anything that reflects the pure character of God. Since
Satan's character opposes the character of God, Milton coined the name, "Apostate Angel," to
denote his enmity against God (1.125). In every aspect of his mindset, actions, and motives, Satan
acts in opposition to the manner that God acts. Essentially, the enmity seeps down to the very core
and essence of Satan's being. Not one fiber of Satan's being desires to do good but only evil. Satan's
new fallen character gives allegiance only to strengthening and carrying out of evil. For all eternity,
Satan wars against God by twisting and seeking to destroy the will of God. Not even for a moment
will Satan rest from pursuit this goal. All of Satan's energies, "must be to pervert that end"–the will
of God which triumphs over his opposing will (1.164). Such opposition from God only intensifies
Satan's fury to continue to oppose God's winning will. Every time God executes his will, Satan
seeks to divert it through his many tactics. Whenever Satan attacks the will of God, God carries his
will through despite the onslaughts. Despite this fact, Satan moved

As mentioned in the book Yunior's family immigrated from the Dominican Republic, which affected
Yunior's future with cultural expectations and societal judgement. In the Dominican culture men are
expected to be "masculine and breadwinners" ( ) for the household but this is not the situation in
Yunior's family. As mentioned before Yunior's father left him when he was "7 years old" ( ), and her
mother provided for both Yunior and his older brother. Despite not having a father the expectations
of being macho was still prevalent for Yunior as he resided in a Dominican neighbourhood in New
Jersey. Another subject which may be discussed in the topic of masculinity is Beto, Yunior's best
friend, and the homosexual experiences between the two. Before abandoning the family, Yunior's
father helps them move to the US, which forces them to chase after the "American Dream" ( ). The
family immigrated from the Dominican Republic to escape poverty, but they still lived under the
poverty line in the USA. Although, "government funds to the Dominican" ( ) helped the families be
better off than they were in the Dominican. Dominicans are a minority in the USA which means that

On July 14, 2014, Mohammed Suliman, a Muslim living in Gaza City, tweeted, "Amir, 12, and
Mohammed. 10, want to buy yogurt. Things are calm, they tell their mom. They leave the house. A
blast is heard. They 're dead" (Hosford). Tragic though it is, this is not a rare phenomenon in this
region. In fact, 2,314 Palestinians were killed and 17,125 injured just in 2014 alone as a result of
Israel's activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem, according to the annual report
by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Because of the unfair
treatment of Palestinians, the situation in Israel/Palestine is a human rights conflict.
To further understand this conflict, one must first know how it began. In 1948, the country of Israel
was formally created. Technically speaking, this would be the origin of this conflict, but some
scholars think it began earlier. They believe it was a result of the Jewish exiles in ancient times when
the land was conquered by the Romans. The land was then taken over by Arabs, who are still found
there today.
Jews had several reasons for immigrating to Palestine. Firstly, in the late 19th century, Jews created
a movement to migrate back to the Holy Land, ignoring the fact that the area was already occupied
by Palestinians. As a result, conflicts over who had rights to the land arose. Great Britain was in
control of

37. Social Movements Of Palestine And Palestine
In the 1990s there began a significant shift in social movements in Israel and Palestine. The history
of this region has been marked by violence, inequality, and oppression for a long time. The
complicated relationships between the two main powers in this area have developed over time and a
variety of groups on both sides of the conflict have reacted with by calling for peace. The first
intifada had a huge impact on who had the ablity to voice their concerns to fight the injustices
occurring in this region. It was during this popular uprising that women's movements first began to
gain traction in both Israel and Palestine. These movements were often defined by traditional and
constricting ideals of femininity, however over time they began to branch out with a more grassroots
approach. Women's movements in Israel have many similarities to those in Palestine and the
Occupied Territories, however there are some significant differences that separate the women
involved in each of these groups and the causes they choose to support. Gender equality is a
complex issue with many implications for the modern peace movement in Israel and Palestine, and
it is crucial to note both the ways in which these groups face similar challenges while also
acknowledging the very different issues faced by Israeli and Palestinian women. Especially in the
period following the first intifada there was a growing presence of women's groups in Israel that
were often focused on peacemaking initiatives

39. American Presence on German Culture Essay
In February of 1945, an unconditional surrender was written up, and to be presented to the successor
of Adolf Hitler. Admiral Karl Doenitz signed this surrender in May of 1945 at the Yalta conference
where Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill would identify a means to the end.
At the time, Admiral Doenitz had his military commanders assume the government positions in
Germany until a new government was later established. The agreements outlined in the surrender at
the Potsdam Conference between July and August of 1945 were later fulfilled since no peace
conference was held to further diagram the future of Germany. The agreement at the Yalta
conference is what eventually shaped the outcome of Germany's future from ... Show more content

In the process of Russia laying its claim to other countries, they attempted to take over Greece as
well, but the British arrived just in time to prevent the takeover. Russia had already expanded so far
into the other European nations that it was somewhat inflated. This caused a significant thinning of
Russian forces in Greece, making it less difficult for Great Britain to force them out. This could
have led to a different turn of events in the near future if Greece had turned communist at that time.
Only speculation and the entertainment industry should expand upon this.
The Division of a Nation
With the division of Germany between the allied forces, came the commencement of the divided
sectors. America now occupied their sector of Germany to the South West enveloping all of Bavaria
and some of the smaller surrounding areas. After the halt of forces after the surrender of Germany to
the Allied Nations, Russia still had the intention of proceeding forward, but with the United States
dropping the two nuclear warheads on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Russia decided to halt their push
into Europe further, in the fear that they too would undergo an attack to prevent a further threat.
They began research on ways to counter the new threat of nuclear weaponry, and soon armed
themselves with their own nuclear weapons. Thus began The Cold War, and the rivalry between
Russia, and America would

Jay–Z is known for being one for not only being one of the best rappers in hip–hop but also having a

of the recent fads in hip–hop. Even though, the fads were embraced by pop culture, Jay–Z saw them
as stale and unprogressive. In "D.O.A." he talks about hip–hop becoming ringtone rap and has lost

For the most part, rock–and–roll musicians had never particularly embraced consumerism, but many
hip–hop artists weren't afraid to make a buck any way they could–and after their poverty–stricken

The percentage of rappers that softened their lyrics compared to the one who chose not to conform

US Civil War
United States of America was formed as a result of the revolution that continued from 1776 to 1783.
After that, United States was divided into two wings/ parts that are the southern and the northern
parts. Then conflict between the two aroused because the northern and the southern societies were
totally different of each other in terms of economic structure, social class, politics and other social
matters especially slavery. The civil war, that started in 1861 and ended in 1865, was the result of
the unending conflict between the southern and the northern societies. The main issue that became
the cause of conflict was slavery and the oppression of the labor class in the southern societies of the

On the other hand, the southern societies comprised of best suited agricultural lands and had
complete hold on the agricultural needs of the states and also exported it to the European countries.
In this society, there was great racial discrimination. The whites were the owners of the lands and
they felt no need to establish the industrial culture because their lands were very profitable for them.
Another reason for this was that the owners did not work and had the slaves that prepared the crop,
harvested it, and supplied it to the markets. In short, slaves were responsible for the take care of the
crops and the owners treated them brutally. They tortured them physically, emotionally, did not
provide them with food and forced them to work all the time (Boritt, 1992). They were also
punished harshly for their little mistakes due to which many slaves died as well. So there was great
violation of labor rights and also human rights that triggered the seeds of hate and rebellion. In
addition to it, the northern societies also supported the elimination of slavery.
Reasons of Inevitability of War
The US civil war was inevitable due to the three main issues that had created wide gap and extreme
stiffness between the two societies of United States. The most important of them was slavery. The
economy of the southern part of United States depended solely on the hard work

Hustling is Not Stealing: Stories of an African Bar Girl
Introduction
The book Hustling is Not Stealing: Stories of an African Bar Girl by John M. Chernoff tells Hawa's
story of life as an African bar girl. Known as an ashawo, which is another name for bar girl, Hawa
shares her life story with Chernoff throughout his travels to West Africa. This review includes a
summary of the book, background information about the author, and a critique of the book. Hawa's
stories share the struggles and freedom she experiences throughout her life.
Summary
Hawa is the main character in this book. Though she is not the author of the story, the story is told
from her perspective. Hawa was born in the 1950's to her family in Ghana. Her stories were tape–
recorded in the 1970's. At the age of three, Hawa's mother died, and Hawa was then passed from
family member to family member to care for her. Hawa had a very distinct personality–she was very
stubborn and tended to get herself trouble. When asked not to do something, she would turn around
and do that very thing. Because of this, she never managed to stay with one relative for very long. At
one point, she lived with her aunt who forced her to do all the work. Hawa was forced to carry
heavy items to the market while her cousin taunted her. This obviously frustrated Hawa, and it
resulted in her returning to live with her father. At the age of 16, Hawa was forced to

"But you vouched for the money," Paulie said. "And now the money is gone. So, you're

"I'm sorry, Paulie, but I will have to disagree."
Roger turned and walked back toward the front door.
"You're making a mistake," Paulie said. "Bad things are sure to come."
"Not to me," said Roger turning back to face the car.
Seeing the man behind them pull a gun, Dominic fired a shot out the window as he yelled for Paulie
to drive. Two quick shots came back at them. As Paulie raced away, Dominic let three more rapid–
fire shots fly before they turned the corner and were out of sight.
"I did tell you he didn't want to pay," Paulie reminded Dominic.
"One way or another he has to pay."
"I think you hit one of them. I looked in the rearview as I was pulling away and saw one of them on

Erika Riemann's oral testimony on life in East Germany during the Cold War
Erika Riemann was a teenager living in East Germany at the end of World War II. Her oral
testimony describes her experiences as a political prisoner during the cold war. She was arrested in
1945 for drawing a bow on a portrait of Stalin that hung in her school classroom. At the time of her
arrest she was only 14 years old.
After World War II Germany was left devastated and in ruins. There had been massive destruction of
the country's infrastructure (Bessel 2011), it lacked political structure and economic activity had
plummeted. There was a scarcity of food, fuel and housing and Germany was in no condition to
clothe or feed its population (O'Dochartaigh 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arrests were indiscriminate, to the point where an internal review by the soviet authorities
showed that 35,000 people had been wrongfully arrested (Kitchen 2012). Most of these people were
released in 1948; however, there were thousands who were handed over to German authorities in
1949 to complete their sentences. Approximately 150,000 Germans were interned between 1945 and
1950, and the death rates in these camps have been estimated to be around 35–40 percent (Bruce
2003, p.6).
Riemann served 8 years and 16 days of her 10 year sentence as a political prisoner. Following her
arrest, she spent time in a castle dungeon at Ludwiglust for questioning. She was forced to confess
to crimes she did not commit, including being part of the Nazi resistance movement. She was then
taken to Bautzen a prison near Dresden, living conditions were awful, and inmates were locked in
cages, the quarters were full of bugs and there were no toilets. She then moved to another prison
fortress, Torgau where many women were raped. From there she was moved to the former Nazi
concentration camp at Sachenhaun just outside of Berlin, which was run by the German police. She
says that at first she had been very happy to be committed to the Germans, as she and other inmates
believed that their cases would be reviewed, and they would be released, however, she says that

Along with every other nation around the globe, Germany has its own unique past. From the days
previous to Bismarck to present time, the Germans have undergone significant trials and
tribulations. Unfortunately for Germany the world will forever equate German history with Hitler
and the Third Reich. As educated people, we need to be able to get past this stigma and appreciate
the Germans for who they truly are. After the ending of the Second World War, Germany was
divided in two: a free western Germany, and the communist East Germany. West Germany
flourished while East Germany struggled to breathe under the heavy shadow of the Soviet Union. In

Globalization is simply the spread of American culture. American culture is a capitalist democracy.
American culture is a diffusion of ideas, yet at the same time individualistic. American culture is
everything from politics to music and Hollywood movies. Americanization is the breaking down of
borders. With the implementation of the Marshall plan after World War II, West Germany quickly
regained its strength that had been lost to the war. The Marshall plan provided for American dollars
to be invested within the country in order for West Germany to be rebuilt. A strong West Germany
was not only beneficial to West Germans, but to the United States. West German social reform and
economic reform followed, and as the country's strength grew, so did its gratitude to the United
States. With the United States pretty much responsible for rebuilding West Germany it is easy to
understand how an Americanization could have taken place. Democracy was implemented in West
Germany, followed by capitalist ideas, followed by an influx of American way of life. This
Americanization was spread throughout the country, and was the front of the Cold War. Finally, after
years of a wall splitting a city in two, and symbolizing a separation in ideology, the wall came down
and so did the Cold War.

Before reunification the East was a one party state, where the people never got to vote on the
political party they wanted to. They never got to express their views and ideas. Only the views of the
State was accepted. Almost everyone living in this system, had as much as 50 years experience of
living under this dictatorship and knew democracy only from the media [Christoph
Singelnstein]. After reunification, the people were finally able to experience what it was like to vote
for their country, and to express their own views. The people from the East had a choice in their
future and that of their country.
When the press was run by the State, there was no freedom of speech. Everything that was on the
radio, T.V., or in the newspapers had to be censored so not to contain any politically incorrect

58. The Death Of The Weimar Republic
For now, I'm going to leave the Reichstag wrapped up, and move onto Libeskind's Jewish museum.
Over history it could be argued that the Jews have been the most persecuted religion. This is of
course true in Germany. In German history the Jews have being accused of poisoning wells and
causing the black death, despite the Jews suffering equally from the disease! The Jews were also
accused for the loss of the First World War, despite the Jews having the largest proportional of any
religious group to fight in the war. The German military high command even produced a censes to
show how the Jews didn't pull their weight, however the findings showed quite the opposite, so of
course it was not published. Things however started to look up for the Jews under the Weimar
republic. During the Weimar Republic, many Jews played influential roles in the government, and in
stabilising Germany's economy following the war. However, after the markets crashed, once again
the German's wanted someone to blame, and once again the Jews fell victim of persecution. With the
rise of Hitler things only got worse. Hitler's anti sematic death camps eradicated most of Europe's
Jewish population. After World War II, "only 8000 Jews remained in Berlin" (Gilman, L. 2007).
Over the cold war period, the Jewish community was relatively stagnant in growth.

Although the claim that the collapse of the Oslo negotiations was due to a failure of process rather
than of substance carries some weight, I will argue that had the substance of the terms of Oslo been
more explicit and had they avoided an open–ended gradualism approach, I doubt that the ensuing
process would have had such a devastating effect on the negotiations. In the following essay I will
analyse the key reasons for the failure of Oslo, namely the constructive ambiguity of the terms
themselves and how this contributed to creating conflicting misconceptions regarding the final
settlement, the lack of an explicit commitment to the two–state solution as the end–point of the
negotiations and finally the gradualist structure for the peace ... Show more content on

This was the first of among many terms whose meaning was effectively nullified by the
"constructive ambiguity" of the Oslo Accords. Abd Al–Sahfi furthers this argument stating that,
through the Accords, the status of the West Bank and Gaza strip was being blurred from being
recognisably 'occupied' to only being 'disputed' as well as Ben–Ami stating 'there is nothing in the
letter of the Oslo accords that prevents the creation of settlements' . Israel capitalised upon this
ambiguity through its settlement expansion programme, to them, a provision merely implied could
not be relied upon, especially as there were no provisions for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the
occupied territories, even as a final status issue. To the Palestinians this was 'indicative of Israel's
inability to take a decision that would recognize these as Palestinian territories' , even if the Israelis
claimed this was a matter of interpreting the terms as only applying to the legal status of the
occupied territories rather than to the demographic and geographic status–quo. Though the Accords
enumerate a number of contentious issues to be deferred to a later date, with even reference being
made to UN Security Council Resolution 242 (the withdrawal of territories) the Israelis profited
from the openness of the terms so as to 'exploit their powers as occupiers to the hilt' so that by the

Hollywood and Nathaniel West's The Day of the Locust Works Cited Missing Although set in the

Within the glamorous setting of Hollywood, West's characters take on multiple roles instead of
assuming individual personalities. They put on and remove these imaginary personality masks,
similar to those in the Commedia dell'Arte, to exhibit a range of emotions that only their character
type would exhibit. Consequently, West's characters are trapped in this restrictive atmosphere,

In fact, Webb notes that today, only one major studio still exists in the city, as most back lots have
turned into offices that coordinate filming activities elsewhere. This small fact proves that
"Hollywood has always been a concept as much as a place" (xi), a symbol people reference for the
movie industry, no matter where the movies were actually produced. Hollywood cinema also
produces its own realities on the big screen. As Cecil B. De Mille. Goldfish and Samuel Goldfish
claimed during the production of the first motion picture, "when real life doesn't fit a preconceived

reality–making that results into an escape for its audiences. Aside from the physical escape of
traveling to the movies or Blockbuster in order to view these films, audiences are also invested in
the characters they view on screen. However, Webb informs the public that "what appears on the
screen is a stylized version of real life (or a plausible vision of imaginary worlds) that is made

A Night Divided
By: Jennifer A. Nielsen
The book "A Night Divided," is a great book. It is about a girl named Gerta and her family. She has
an older brother Fritz, a brother Dominic, her father (papa) and her mother Frau Lowe. The Berlin
Wall had just gone up after the Second World War separating East and West Germany, and her and
her family live in the West. One night her brother Dominic and her father decide they need to get
through the wall for work without guards noticing because the consequences could be deadly. Her
brother and Father make it across but they cannot find a way to come back because the wall has
been added on and is even more dangerous now. Gerta ends up not being able to talk to her father or
brother for at least 4 years. One day Gerta was walking to school with her best friend Anna when
she see's her brother, Dominic on the other side of the wall and waves. She eventually ended up
seeing her dad to but then she got caught by an officer by the name of Officer Muller. She ended up
getting away from the Officer but she knew he would be watching her every move from now on. But
everyday when she goes to school she see's them on the platform and her dad is doing a dance that
he always did for her as a kid when they were little. But, he continues doing the digging scene from
the dance trying to give her a signal that he wants her to do something or he is going to do
something. But if Gerta tries to cross that wall it could be deadly and we don't know what would
happen.
The three main characters of the book are Gerta, her brother Fritz, and Anna which is Gerta's best
friend. Gerta is the main character and she is very determined, brave and loves her family very much
and wants them all together again. Fritz is Gerta's older brother who has her back and is with her for
everything. He is a hard working man and will have to go and be a soldier if they do not make it to
the other side of the wall in time. Anna is Gerta's best friend and they always are there for each
other. When one day Anna's older brother Peter tried to escape and Gerta knew that Peter was going
to escape but did not tell Anna and their best friend relationship could be

68. Character Analysis Of Gerta In A Night Divided
In the beginning of the book A Night Divided, Gerta was physically described as a twelve year old
girl with blond hair. She was also described as having round eyes, with a warm brown tone. Her
body was athletic and fit although, by the end of the book she had become really skinny almost as if
she had been starving.
Gerta was always described as outspoken, passionate, and a risk taker. For example, in the book
when Gerta and her brother were almost done with the tunnel, the tunnel began to collapse, her
brother insisted to let it collapse however Gerta never gave up on building the tunnel. This is an
example of Gerta being a risk taker and showing determination on not giving up. Another scene
from the book is when Gerta's only best friend goes to talk to her when she is building the tunnel,
but Gerta impulsively tells her that she doesn't want to be her friend anymore because she wants to
be alone and finish the tunnel to get to her father.
Gerta's family consists of five people not including Gerta; those people are her mom, dad, two
brothers, and grandma. Her mom is named Catherina, her dad's name is Aldous Lowe, her oldest
brother is named Fritz, her younger brother's name is Dominic and her grandmother's name is Oma
Gertrude. After the Berlin Wall was created, Gerta lived only with her mom and her oldest brother
Fritz since her youngest brother and her dad were stuck in the West Berlin looking for a job. Her
grandmother lived in the countryside in East Berlin, the only time Gerta's mother went to see her
was when Oma Gertrude broke her leg and needed attention. Gerta's only friend through out the
book was Anna.
The most important thing that happened to Gerta was when she was walking home from school with
Anna and saw her dad do a dance that he would do for her every night before the berlin wall was
created. However, her dad kept repeating one part over and over again which was digging with a
shovel. After that, Anna gave her a letter from her dad with a drawing of a building that Gerta had to
find and figure out what it meant. Once she found the building she started looking around and found

70. Analysis Of Undersea Fiber Optic Cable
In 2008 and early 2009, the world was still overcoming the difficult business and investment
environment that was created by the global financial crisis. This meant that when Main One was
intending to raise the $240 million it needed to construct its undersea fiber–optic cable, the company
needed a strong partner that could see beyond the short term challenges and truly see the potential in
the massive opportunity on which Main One was intending to capitalize. From the perspective of
Harith General Partners and Main One were a strong fit. Harith believed deeply in Main One's long
term strategies and they were very impressed by the talent and vision of Opeke and the management
she selected to work with her. Harith was able to leverage its experience with investments in South
Africa to help Main One build a stronger governance and management structure that was better
suited to responding to the specific challenges that the information and communications technology
sector presented in Africa – including accelerating demand, increasing competition and shortage of
last–mile infrastructure. Having representation, not only on Main One's board, but, also on the audit,
finance, and human resources subcommittees gave Harith a special insight into the inner workings
of the company and greater influence on the company's short–term and long–term strategies. During
the period of time when the entrance of new bandwidth providers caused prices to drop, Harith
provided strategic guidance as

72. The Girl The World Forgot Essay
She stood there as the world passed her by. Ever since she came into the world, it has turned its back
to her. Shunned her and continued on their way, without a second glance. She stood in the
background of life, watching the forgotten beauties that everyone had forgotten, like her. Even now
she leaned up against a tall oak tree that stretched out across the sky, long limps twisting together
and bright green leaves scattered about. The old tree had been there for a long time, and yet
everyone that passed by was too busy to take in the grandness of what surrounded them. However,
every flower that pressed through the cracks of the broken sidewalk, every bird that flew across the
sky, every creature that walked by her she would stand in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even still she would give them a soft smile, even though she knew that they weren't paying attention
to her. Time swirled together and she was unable to tell how long she had been waiting and yet she
still kept on waiting. She pushed back her long hair behind her ears as she titled her head to the side
when she heard a male voice, but frowned when she saw a young high school kid come around the
corner calling for his friends, who were a few feet ahead of him. It wasn't him. She sighed, he was
late. Of course he was always late; it was one of the few things that she loved about him. His world
was perfect to those who saw him, and he was very old–fashioned, and yet for some reason her heart
would began to pound when he would be several minutes late and then profusely apologize to her.
Seeing him not put together and be clumsy around her made her feel special. As the memories faded
away she smiled as she titled her head up to the sky and closed her eyes. She remembered now, why
she kept going on in this world. The beauty of this world captivated her and made her feel not so
alone, but he had given her the strength to put her foot forward and to keep moving in this thing that
they call life. And that is why she was waiting; she was waiting for him to come to her. She had
always been waiting for him. He always seemed to be off in his own little world, but all she could

74. Anna Funder 's Investigative Account Of The Traumas...
Anna Funder's investigative account of the traumas experienced during the totalitarian governance
of the GDR (German Democratic Republic), Stasiland, presents an historical account of life under
the communist regime and behind the Berlin Wall, an historical account which manifests in the
personal stories, descriptions of the remnants of the East German government. Funder presents
interviews of victims of the GDR to create a tangible account of the power held by the government.
She further conveys the historical importance of the former Stasi operatives to be powerful in
presenting a complete depiction of East German society. However, it is also through Funder's
presentation of the former East Germany to be permeated by its history that creates her powerful
portrayal of East Germany.
In Funder's depiction of personal reflections she affords the Stasi victims the ability to present a
powerful account of the GDR. By demonstrating the victims to have been inflicted with sustained
trauma, evidenced by Julia's apprehensive stance towards Funder when revealing her story by
seeking to rapidly depart asserting "I've... got a class", and leaving Funder to contemplate their
conversation due to an "appointment" she had forgotten. Such reservation when revealing her
experiences with the Stasi is indicative of the Julia's Stasi ordeal to continue to permeate her life.
This further provides Funder with a powerful foundation for her account by proving the Stasi
intrusion on the victims to

II. What does marital success and family look like in this culture?1
There are three different types of marital unions in the DR these include church marriages, civil
marriages, and consensual unions. Church marriages and civil marriages are dominant among the
upper classes and the weddings can be expensive, while consensual unions are most common among
the poor. This can be traced all the way back to the slave periods. During this time Slave families
were broken up and marriages were not allowed. It is also important to note that the DR is a leader
when it comes to the number of girls that get married before the age of 18. A startling 41% get
married before they reach the age of 18. And almost 13% were married before they turned 15.
Overall, marriage is an important part of life as a Dominican.
III. What are some proper etiquette rules?
When meeting someone the rules are not that much different than the American way of meeting
someone new. A simple handshake with good eye contact and a welcoming smile is the norm.
Although it is important to note that in the DR culture maintaining eye contact indicates interest and
it may be considered rude not to make good eye contact. If you are invited to dinner it is expected to
bring a small gift such as chocolates or pastries. It is important to note not to bring gifts that are
purple or black as these indicate mourning colors. And expect the gift to be opened when it is
received. Dominicans also take a lot of pride in
