2. Social group- age
• For my media product to represent age I made sure I used informal
language that the audience would understand as my audience is 16-
19 year olds. I used language they would be familiar with such as talk
about festivals, gigs etc. I also mentioned bands they would be
familiar with and when the audience see how my magazine uses
language they would automatically notice it would be for a younger
age.
3. Social group- gender
• For my media product I represented the social group of gender by
having the colour scheme a neutral set of colours so to make sure
that the magazine was unisex. I also used mainly female models
because they are stereotypically seen as a sexual attraction to men
which would encourage men to buy my magazine. I also included men
in my magazine photography because in the genre my magazine is
aimed at- indie, there is a variety of male and female bands but the
male in my magazine also attracts the female audience and enforces
balance between the two genders.
4. Social group- ethnicity
• Throughout my magazine the social group of ethnicity is very clear, all
my models are white British which is also who my music magazine is
aimed at, this is only due to the fact that all indie bands are mainly of
the white British ethnicity. However this is not in any way stopping
other ethnicities reading my magazine.
5. Social group - class
• My magazine is aimed at people of middle class, this is due to the fact
that most indie bands are of a similar class, because of this the
audience will be able to connect with the band. Indie bands don’t use
a lot of money with their music they use their own musical
instruments and perform locally, this is something the middle class
audience can aspire to do and also the magazine is of an affordable
price for middle class people as it would be for some of the lower
class audience also.
